Tuesday, 19th May -- Gorgeous day here in Sausalito -- our hike yesterday was four miles and just about perfect. I'll post a photo from the top of Ring Mountain looking toward Sausalito and the city. It's true about Eli -- see his newest photo -- he didn't know what Kangaroos were and so I told him and he remarked it was just plain weird to carry around a messenger bag on your stomach, not to mention a head poking out.

May newsletter is out -- I hope you get it.. If you don't, holler, okay? I also hope you get a chuckle.

A Zoom apt. with a doc today -- no, I'm not sick and no one else in the house is either, simply a long-standing apt. It'll be good to see her. She's gorgeous, so in addition to listening to her tell you what to do, you can just stare at her.

All of you who aren't drowning in the rain, get out there in your neighborhood and walk and talk and visit -- How many of you have someone in your block who needs help or doesn't have any family close and is just plain lonely? Come on, guys, see what's needed and take action. Also, don't forget stretching -- gently - before you head out to walk or hike -- cold muscles can get pissed off and you don't want that.

Monday, 18th May -- No real hike yesterday, walked around a HUGE park in Corte Madera (Green Wood) and breathed in the fresh May air -- Marin County is opening up some trails today and minimal stores, but now masks are a requirement. And life goes on. What's important? To do something today that makes you smile, makes you happy and just as important, makes someone else smile and be happy. What? Well, one of you posted she'd helped a non-native speaker at a food bank. That's a big something. You have a neighbor who's got problems? DO SOMETHING, doesn't have to be huge, can be simple visiting, taking over a cake or cookies. Find out the status of the food banks in your area and perhaps take in some canned goods -- Or volunteer, if you're healthy and not in the upper age group.
I know there are some states where the governors are, for whatever reason, behaving like wardens in a prison -- what to do? YOU CONTACT YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVES -- you send out a dozen emails. If you see people suffering because there's no opening up even in "safe" areas of your state, don't whine, DO SOMETHING. We're Americans, we
speak up, you take action. Doesn't mean you become an idiot and burn your mask and kiss everyone in sight, no, BE SMART AND GO GET THE POLITICIANS -- and never forget, we're all in this together and hold politicians' feet to the fire. You might not have as much clout as Elon Musk in California (Tesla), but you do have a voice.

Friday, 15th May -- I'll be sending out the May newsletter in the next couple of days -- if you don't get it, holler.
Still shut down in California -- How about you guys? What is your state doing as of the middle of the month of May?
It's not going to rain today or tomorrow, so BIG HIKES -- got to keep the bod fit and strong -- hint, hint. Tell me what you're doing now it's spring, nearly summer, and whatever it is, so long as it involves moving, please do it daily. And even if you don't go to the pool or the beach, you want to have lovely arms -- so, in front of the bathroom mirror, off with the top, arms straight out from your sides and ROLL, forward, twelve X 3 and backward twelve X 3. Yep, it should burn. Be brave, beautiful ones.
We like the FBI -- Most Wanted -- except the stories are so very dark -- and I really don't need more dark at this time. So, anything else you like? TELL ME --
A great Friday -- get out there and skip and run and wave to everyone, maybe sing something from the Sound of Music, it'll keep your feet moving and a smile on your face --

Thursday, 14th May -- it's supposed to rain this morning (Yes, please!) but hopefully later, no more rain and we can at last hike again, and hike/exercise we must -- Virtual exercise only works if you're virtually eating -- one or you wrote something like that and I really like it. All right, no nagging in the first paragraph.
VORTEX is coming -- am in the middle of a single chapter scene that involves Sherlock in a deposition in NYC -- I hope it's clever and doesn't piss off the reader since I'm really leaving the two plots, but just for one chapter, and to give Sherlock face-time. She'll be hooking up with one of the plots, which is so much fun, but she had to have a reason to be in New York.
All of you, it's Thursday already -- the week has zoomed by. I suppose that's good.
Today, you're going to email three friends, check they're okay what they're doing. After the emails, CALL two close relatives, send lots of love and caring.

May 13, 2020

Wednesday, 13th May -- Thank you for all your opinions on what we should do in the face of the virus. Needless to say, opinions are all over the board. My only really really strong belief is that all the political crap should stop, it only makes things worse, adds more stress, people don't know what to think, and the blame game -- ah, is that something we really want? People, we're in this together.
Okay, nice hike yesterday along the Tiburon Ridge, coming from Mill Valley. Suddenly, on the trail, there was this immense (I'd say 60%) drop--off. I studied it -- strewn with loose rocks on top of the steepness -- and decided a mile hike was just fine, thank you. I took what I thought was an amazing photo with S.F. in the distance, but alas, it ended up sucking.
Tell me what you're reading -- I can take it if it isn't me, I mean, it'll hurt, like a punch to the gut, but I can take it. Watched the first episode to the FBI most wanted -- it was promising, we'll see.
Everyone, even if you can only walk to the mailbox, you're moving. See if you can walk twice a day to the mailbox. So, what you want is to do a little more every day, build up endurance. Getting your heart rate going up, panting -- all excellent for your well being. The stronger you are, the better the chance you have of fighting off bad stuff.

May 12, 2020

Tuesday, 12th May -- Oh my, it actually rained a bit yesterday -- all the Marin County weather minions were singing and dancing along with all the humans. We really need it -- too early to have brown hills --
More expected today and tomorrow -- but only little droplets, nothing significant, and I ask you why? We didn't do anything bad to piss off the weather gods. All digits crossed for lots even though it means no hikes and more stationery biking at home.
Tell me your opinion. Given there is absolutely no vaccine in the known universe that's 100% effective (Hope you get 60% effective), what do you think we should do? Accept deaths without blaming anyone or stay closed down until when? There's a guarantee there'll be no more deaths? How many deaths did we have in the U.S. last year from the regular virus, even with vaccinations? Your thoughts, please --

Food is right there, behind that white frig door (or stainless steel or black or whatever). You've put on weight, your hand reaches out to open the door and you STOP -- What am I doing? Have I exercised enough today to off-set the calories I'm about to stuff into my mouth?

Monday, 11th May -- Beginning week 9 -- amazing -- when it hits double digits, I might hit the bottle (Not vodka, Diet Snapple, Raspberry Tea)
Sounds like everyone had a good Mother's Day -- even though for most it was virtual -- Also, I was salivating at your menus.
Thank you -- at least three of you -- gave me a new idea about the character I was thinking about killing off -- Let me re-enter, expand her role -- I can't wait to write it, brain is really cooking --
If you have any more TV shows to recommend, please do.
All our parks and trails are still closed, which isn't right -- Why I ask when we have only one case of the virus here in my county. All right, I'll stop whining, but there is no reason to put people out of business in so many counties when it's safe -- enough -- at least now the test to determine if you have the virus is in FULL GEAR -- this is great -- it'll be everywhere soon.
Everyone, it's NAG time -- I want all of you outside today (unless it's sleeting) to walk, walk, hike, hike -- think of me hiking along beside you in my 49ers red ball cap. Be sure to stretch, okay? You have to keep your muscles limber, so gently stretch before your outing --

May 8, 2020

Friday, 8th May -- End of Week 8. I'm wondering if I'll eventually be typing in End of Week 37. We have only ONE virus case here (well, only one person in the hospital) in Marin County -- and yet -- San Francisco is also past the peak -- and yet --
A big hike today -- somewhere, still to be determined, most trails are still closed down, but we still root them out, sort of like truffles, but not really. We were all so exhausted from Wednesday's magnificent 4+ mile hike, we were really pooped, muscles screaming, threatening retribution, like cramps, if we overdid it again yesterday. So, just a short walk, sight-seeing, then home to give them love on the couch. Ah, but today -- back out there.
VORTEX -- I'm cogitating about this one character -- how much will she tell Mia (that's Mia Briscoe) or will she phone her later out of guilt, or will she get murdered? Hmm -- choices, choices.
Everyone, I expect your houses/apartments are super scrubbed, all hoarded crap from twenty years is cleared out, you can eat your tacos off the floor, drink your vodka out of that 30-year-old glass tumbler you got for a wedding present and hadn't touched until the virus hit and you were BORED. Have you also cleaned out the clothes' closet?
All right, I'm ready to have your finest recommendations for a movie or a tv series. Give me just one, that way I'll remember it -- and you have to REALLY like it --

May 7, 2020

Thursday, 7th May -- Week 8 winding down -- and do you know, for me, the time has zoomed by. How about you? Is time crawling or zooming or unchanged?
Are your houses spotless? All the crap piled up hidden away for 20 years cleaned out? Those pesky screens that are frankly gross since they haven't been cleaned for eleven years -- they're gorgeous? You can now actually see through them? Not to mention you detailing all your vehicles.

I'm really enjoying your photos -- Do you know why pets are like tacos? I've never met one I didn't like.
Okay, so that was lame, but hey, I've eaten my peanut butter English muffin and am feeling frisky.l

NAG: Get out there --- the stronger, the more fit you are, even if you get the virus your chances of complete recovery are much higher -- well, this is true of any illness you could get -- GET STRONG -- GET RID OF ANY FLAB -- Thus spake Zarathustra --

May 6, 2020

Wednesday, 6th May -- Tell me at least one of you got drunk on margaritas last night -- it would really make me feel good.
And let me remind you again how much I like to see photos -- give me a glimpse into your lives, where you live, your pets -- Don't worry, none of them have to be X rated.

We are very fortunate -- in this area there are too many trails to count. Alas, most of them are closed, which I find really strange except I guess the powers that be have decided there are too many idiots out there who wouldn't keep social distancing. Sigh, it really hurts to be thought an idiot and incapable of doing things right. But we're lucky -- so many trails begin at the end of neighborhood cul de sacs, and those are always available.

Everyone who isn't getting rained on, go out to your local park, if you don't have trails, and enjoy yourself. Talk to people, remind them and yourself that we're all together in this mess and yes, we all understand what to do and what not to do.
And if you have a favorite local restaurant (It doesn't have to be Mexican, although why not?), order out from them, keep them in business. I am not a fan of Dominos pizzas, but they say they've hired 3,000 people -- that's good.

It's going to be a grand day and I can hear your leg muscles calling to you --
