Monday, 12th July -- Walked to Tennessee Point at Rodeo Beach yesterday -- I'll post a photo a bit later -- it was chilly, not much sun, but then again, it doesn't matter, e ocean is always sublime.
Today, hmm, where to hike, don't know yet. How about you guys? Which trail will you hit this afternoon? Or are you an early person?
People in Cuba are protesting against the regime. Freedom signs everywhere. It's been so long they've been isolated and held down. What do you think will happen? So far the government has turned off all wifi -- All prayers to the people of Cuba.
Everyone, are you gearing up for VORTEX? I took the cover to get it framed, will take a picture when I get it back. Have you pre-ordered? Have you sent little requests to the cosmos that everyone in the known universe read the book? I like that one --
let's give it a try.

Thursday, 8th July -- Glad you guys like Eli performing his guilt stare -- he does have it down pat. I didn't give in for a good fifteen minutes. You gotta stand firm and not give in right that second. You know what? He napped. When I turned on his cat video, he snapped awake at the first chirp of the bird.
You've asked me if Eli misses Peyton. To be honest, I don't think so. I think he really likes being the focus of all our attention. He sleeps in my arms at night, I wake up with him on my chest, his face maybe an inch from mine, giving me the food stare -- but no scratching, no meowing, only the "stare".
All good here -- got more ideas for RECKONING. Walked downtown Sausalito. Lots of visitors, lots of laughter, lots of visiting the souvenir stores. So it looks like business is good, thankfully. And, do tell me -- where did you talk today? Someplace exciting? Did you take a critter?

Wednesday, 7th July -- Today is homemade pizza day and as I've told you, mine is the very very best in the universe, don't listen to detractors, they're really wrong about this -- Pepperoni, onions and black olives on some and only the onions and black olives on the vegetarians.
Working, as usual, on RECKONING -- things are going to happen in about thirty minutes when I'm downstairs in my office writing -- what exactly, I have no clue, but it'll be wild, I promise.
Walking at Rodeo Beach -- YEAH -- only thing, it'll be cold and windy -- we'll see.
And you guys? Everyone will be virtuous and get outside and move your perfect bods? GO!

Tuesday, 6th July -- Great walk yesterday toward the WW1 rifle range, no, didn't go the whole way, it's sharply downhill for quite a ways which means when you go back, you're walking STRAIGHT UP for that same long ways. No thank you. I've posted a photo of the rifle range in the past, you can still see the outlines. About a mile and a half is perfect, the back walk is a slight incline the whole way, no problem at all. Where did you guys walk, hike? By a lake, by a park, up a gnarly trail to the top of the world?
RECKONING is coming, wrote a new scene yesterday. I told you I had written one scene that I realized came maybe 100 pages too soon so it has to be put WAAAAY back. Getting ready for some wild chase scenes. Oh boy, what fun.
Does everyone have an exercise band? With handles? You put one foot in the middle on the floor and do biceps, then other foot. Tell me what you think. Also, the exercise band has lots of other exercises -- just Google it and let me know what you think.

Monday, 5th July -- Well, lots of overcast, fog, but the sound of the fireworks was pretty impressive, until maybe one this morning.
Back to work we go -- sing it along with me -- in a minute I'm tromping down to my office and working. I realized I had a scene and it's toooooo early in the book, so have to change that out -- out walking yesterday, I got a good idea how to proceed, so no worries.
Walked to the ocean yesterday -- it was pretty windy and rather chilly, truth be told. Today, it'll be about the same and staying away from the Bay and ocean.
What are you guys up to today?
Still digesting the BBQ and other goodies you ate yesterday? Well, I'm with you, yep, still digesting --

Friday, 2nd July -- Happy Birthdays (2) today -- that means lots of Chinese (that was the selection for lunch), two different cakes, and lots of presents -- and yes, I always play Happy Birthday on the piano, even for my own birthday -- sound strange? I guess it is, but it works.
RECKONING is coming right along -- moving faster than my brain which means I have to go back and really edit mightily, which I enjoy, so it's just fine. That's the way I work. But you know, every single writer in the universe is different -- I have a writer friend up in the Seattle area who starts working at midnight -- can't imagine it, but it works for him.
It's very chilly here in Sausalito, has been since April -- it makes walking along the water on the shivery side. Always wear a shirt, wool vest and jacket. Can you imagine, all that in the fricking summer? And there's always wind, rips the cap right off your head. So walking in Sausalito town today, people watching, everybody is always so happy -- and as I've told you, the Lappert's ice cream is to die for.

Thursday, July 1st -- Can you believe it? June is down the drain -- it's always sort of a shock when it's a brand spanking new month, don't you find that to be true?
I like hearing about all your Independent bookstores -- do you know even in the time of COVID they're growing, new stores popping up everywhere, a very good thing.
I wish all of you the best of luck on the sweepstakes. You say you never win? Well, you sure won't if you don't enter, so go ahead.
RECKONING is coming along -- smartly, I've got to say. I think the week at the OBX cleared out the brain, really emptied it, so now the characters are racing to fill it up -- a fine thing.
Walking the loop on Tennessee Valley Road -- about a mile and so beautiful under all the trees -- walk with me, in spirit, okay? It's cold here, high today is only 66 degrees, misting, beautiful really, but you ain't going to get a tan. I packed my shorts away -- but who knows, maybe it'll warm up here -- I hear the Northwest is roasting, like 106 degrees in Seattle? That's buff weather with ac, forget the shorts.

Wednesday, June 30th -- Not many more hours before June is history -- do you know it's been cold this entire month? And today, the high is 66 degrees. After the Outer Banks, where it tried to be in the eighties, it's very cold indeed.
You guys really liked Eli's big feet, as opposed to foot. It's true, he hid, and when I saw him, he ran. If I weren't used to this whenever we're gone, I would have been very unhappy. I only cursed him and went to bed. Then the next afternoon, there he was and he didn't leave. Does anyone know why a cat wants to lick you -- I mean it seems to be a compulsion, lick my arms, my hands, not necessarily my face, but in a pinch --
Today, no walking along the Bay -- talk about freezing buns off what with the wind always off the ocean, so it's inland, trying to find some sun and walking fast to keep the blood flowing so it won't freeze. If your blood froze that would mean really bad things.
Everyone, stand in front of the mirror -- arms straight out to the side, then roll forward twelve times, then back twelve times -- repeat twice, then arms straight down, bend elbows and push back hard, hold -- you'll really feel triceps. Do twice, then repeat arm rolls. Then walk a mile and you're GOLDEN.

Tuesday, 29th June -- Can you believe the 4th of July this weekend? Can't wait to see all the great fireworks, from San Francisco, from Oakland and right here in Richardson Bay -- Sausalito -- Do you enjoy the fireworks where you live? Are they fairly awesome?
It really is great to be home -- didn't walk yesterday, lots of stuff to get through -- but YEA! today -- out to Tennessee Valley Road in Mill Valley -- a number of gorgeous walks, pick your medicine, all distances and slopes from easy to kill your butt.
Worked a bit yesterday and full bore back today -- got some new ideas walking on the beach which I do hope will work.
What are you up to? Traveling anywhere? If so, don't forget to post photos, okay?

Thursday, 17th June -- THE SWEEPSTAKES LINK WORKS NOW!!!! Go to my Facebook page and click on it RIGHT NOW for a chance to win a VORTEX arc (advanced reader copy) or a hundred dollar gift certificate to your favorite local indie store.
It's going to be HOT today here in always cool Sausalito -- yep, predicted to be 82 degree high. You think I'm whining, don't you? Well, for someone used to the high in the sixties, this is over the top limit for me. Of course, at the Outer Banks, it's going to be near ninety. I simply can't imagine. Talk about keeping my face in a fan.l
Walking today by the Bay -- it sure ain't going to be cold, and I doubt it'll be windy. If you have a Bay nearby or a lake or some nice lily-padded ponds, walk around them. Or in a lovely wooded area, all is good.
Everyone get the June newsletter? I hope so. But what's funny is I don't have my copy yet.

Halloween's coming up fast, the day the zombies burst out of the ground and terrify the crap out of us, not to mention eat our candy and eat our brains.
Update on BOMBSHELL, the 17th FBI Thriller: I'm nearly finished with the edit. The cover is very cool, explodes with eye-popping color. BOMBSHELL is set in Maestro, Va., (the setting of the 10th FBI thriller, POINT BLANK) and in Washington.
JEWEL OF THE LION (first thriller in A Brit in the FBI series partnered with J.T. Ellison). JEWEL moves fast and you don't know what's going to happen on the next page, and you're biting your toenails or a zombie's toenails. J.T. is an excellent plotter and that means when we brainstorm no plot gets left behind.
Alas, no kids want candy enough to crawl up our oxygen-deprived steep driveway, and the sad thing is, I still have a big bowl of candy, every year, but no one comes, not even the zombies with brain bags.
Take care, Catherine
