Wednesday, 25th August -- cool here today, something you're tired of hearing I'll bet because a) you feel sorry for me not having a summer or b) you're envious because you're roasting and you'd trade in your spouse for sixty five degrees. Is there a possible third reason? I can't think of one.
Work today, always work, RECKONING is slowly coming, the characters like to misbehave and that means the tearing of the hair, maybe a couple of curses, but I do cover Eli's ears. All in all, though, I can't complain. Well, I can, but I'm not going to.
Who has a vacation this month? Is everyone staying close to home because of the Delta variant?
What have you heard about the booster? When is it coming? I understand it's exactly the same vaccine, which makes sense, I suppose.
Everyone hurt by the flooding in Tennessee, prayers should be surrounding you by now. Hang in there --
Walking with you in spirit again today -- and I'd really like you to take some pictures and maybe sing a jaunty tune while you're getting your legs nice and strong, your heart pumping, and biceps happy because you occasionally swing your arms.

Tuesday, 24th August -- I'm as concerned as all of you are, doubtless, what will happen to all our people in Afghanistan and the Afghanis who who worked with us for twenty years. It is a ghastly situation and I personally feel so helpless. All our elected officials in Congress are getting pleas for help so they've dived in, and hopefully they'll be able to help -- but that's not the point, is it? What do you think we should do? How to deal with this betrayal?
All right, I know you're all upset, so I'll stop.
Another day off with the fricking sore toe, and what's that all about? Bad socks? What? That means another night on the bike, pumping like a maniac to get some sort of workout.
I'm with you again in spirit -- oh yes, I have the fittest, most ripped spirit in the U.S.

Friday, 20th August -- Glorious Friday -- a cool Sausalito day (and it usually is) and I'm deep into RECKONING, finishing up a chapter, which always feels wonderful. Publishers Weekly bestseller list VORTEX is #5 -- We'll take it. I'll tell you one thing, never do I want to go up against Stephen King again, ever. So, tell me and be honest -- who is wearing a sandwich board with VORTEX on the front (and the back, please, so you're advertising coming and going)? Have you signed up one more person? If you have, you're a very kind person and I salute you
On this precious Friday, work, as always, then a hike, as always, then cutting loose since it's FRIDAY! There's just something about Friday that perks you right up, makes you feel like you're soon to have freedom. Don't you think Friday nights are special? They just feel different.
When you hike today with me in spirit, sing a song -- maybe I'll hear you and join in.

Thursday, 19th August -- Good news: VORTEX came in at #2 on the New York Times combined ebook/hardcover list (behind Stephen King, drat and blast) and #2 on the USA Today bestseller list (behind Stephen King, drat and blast and big sigh)
Thank all of you -- now Big Favor -- to keep me on the list you, yes, you, can really help -- each of you get one person to buy VORTEX.
So, I've got a smile on my face today -- oh yes, I forgot, VORTEX is #1 on the Apple list. YEA -- although they're a much smaller list, we'll take it and drink champagne to them.
Lovely two-mile walk yesterday, on the "loop" -- you're in the forest and breathing deep the sweet pine-scented air. Today, a tougher hike -- trying to do easy then hard then easy -- Is this what you guys do?
Off to have some eggs and champagne.
YEA!!!!

Wednesday, 18th August -- Well, talk about virtue, nearly more virtue than I could stand, we walked to Kirby Cove -- This is right by the Golden Gate Bridge -- I've posted photos before, maybe 6 months ago. It's a beautiful ALL DOWNHILL walk for a bit over a mile, then you're at the cove and beach -- the water looked like light blue milk yesterday, or maybe arctic water. Cold and windy until -- you get about halfway back up the LOOOONG climb to the road. -- then you're stripping off layers. Thighs are pulsing and not from looking at Chocolate decadence cake -- anywho, it's always beautiful and after another six months I'll forget that uphill climb.
I find out about the first of the big bestseller lists today -- so all digits crossed, please.
I'm doing a phone interview in about 6 minutes from now, should be fun. All you guys, I'll feel your spirits on my walk today and believe me, this one will be easier.

Sunday, 15th August -- The big mid-point to the last month of summer -- I hope you've gotten your August Newsletter and I hope equally you smiled.
Today a hike, a little bit of work, a visit to a bookstore for a friend's signing and then what? I love Sundays, you usually never know what's around the corner. And there's no pressure to do anything at all, and that's very fine.
What are you up to today? If there's old fashioned potato salad involved, I'm there.

Saturday, 14th August -- What a glorious day, made better because an extra hour of sleep really makes the toes want to tap and the mouth yell out, "Where's breakfast!" Ah, since it's the weekend, that means a croissant and turkey bacon, all scrunched together and sliced and oh my, let's watch ESPN. wear a beret and EAT.
If you didn't know and if you're a Golden State Warriors' fan, then let me tell you Andre Iguodala is back -- Like Chris Paul, he's a bit older, but exciting, smart, and you can always count on him. You say you don't give a crap about the Warriors? Hmm, shame on you.
Today is busy, well, it's busy after the weekly repast at THE CANTINA. Stuff, always weekend stuff plus for the first time since COVID hit, I absolutely have to go shopping for a dress for a relative's wedding. This outing I really don't consider fun since it's a "have to."
Do I hear yawns? You're right, sorry. No hike today, but how about you guys? What's on the fitness schedule at your house? If you hike, I will be with you in spirit, I promise.
Great Saturday -- do something wild and crazy, like dancing along the hiking trail. BBQ on the outside grill and if it's roasting where you are, dash inside to the AC. Who makes the best potato salad?

I'll be posting an "audiogram" of a reading from VORTEX -- it'll make you move directly to the edge of your seat, I promise. I really like the readers -- They're new to me.
Also, I don't know why the "teaser" isn't here -- I'll check into that.
It's Friday and that means you're thinking about what's coming up this weekend. Who will watch pre-season football? Bah, I say, but on the other hand, you can begin to learn all the new names. But they're so boring -- no, don't think that, learn NEW NAMES. Have I convinced me and all of you?
Football pool this year? Who wants to do it?
Work, then a lovely hike, probably out to Rodeo Beach -- the ocean is always a huge draw -- Walked two miles yesterday, knowing most of you were either reading VORTEX or humming as you walked with me in spirit. Right?

Thursday, 12th August -- I'll be posting a link to a podcast I did on Monday. I'll post a second podcast in a week and a half, thereabouts. More coming up. Don't you think it's fun to Zoom since only your top shows? It is neat to have on jeans or joggers and a really pretty top for interviews. It's like guys wearing a sports coat, a shirt and a tie, and their shorts for Zoom work meeting.
Gorgeous hike yesterday down by the Bay -- walked around all the batteries, at least five of them, out of service now, of course. Today, not sure yet, but send me your ideas mentally, I'll turn on my receiving receptors.
Work today and August Newsletter and daily news about VORTEX, which is really good so far. All digits crossed, please. So far you guys are enjoying it, which pleases me mightily.
Up and at 'em this morning, it's going to be a fine, blessed day.
