Lily & Madeleine's new album "Keep It Together" premieres at Rookie Magazine, out February 26

LILY & MADELEINE’S NEW ALBUM
KEEP IT TOGETHER PREMIERES AT
ROOKIE MAGAZINE

OUT FEBRUARY 26 ON NEW WEST RECORDS
MARCH TOUR DATES CONFIRMED

“Lily & Madeleine fold stunning harmonies into brushed drums, dreamy strings, and soft keys—and fade into you in the process.”—NYLON“Their songs have a maturity that transcends their years.”—KCRW“…a musical dreamscape.”—Entertainment Weekly Lily & Madeleine’s anticipated new album,  Keep It Together , is now streaming in full exclusively at Rookie Magazine , who assert, “Lily and Madeleine have been craving a change: Their new album…is built from the desire to be taken seriously and the knowledge that comes with becoming an adult in the world.” This is the third full-length album from the acclaimed sister duo, which will be released this Friday, February 26 on New West Records (PRE-ORDER).

Already receiving widespread acclaim, the album is currently the #2 most added at CMJ Radio, with NPR Music  calling their song, “Hotel Pool,” “…pure beauty…The harmonies from these Indiana-based sisters have always been outstanding. But now on their third album, Keep It Together, Lily and Madeleine have added more texture to their songs.”
In support of the release, the sisters will embark on a U.S tour this March, which includes shows in Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago and New York, with additional shows added in Louisville, Nashville and Atlanta. See below for complete tour dates.
Recorded at home in Bloomington, Ind. with producer Paul Mahern, who also helmed Lily & Madeleine’s lauded debut and sophomore albums, the 10-song record features the help of friends and touring band members Shannon Hayden (cello, mandolin, guitar, Moog) and Kate Siefker (drums, percussion, guitar, bass).
Of the project, Madeleine comments, “Working with a closer knit team of just four ladies helped tighten our sound and unify each track into a complete collection. The title of the album is a lyric from the first track ‘Not Gonna,’ which Lily wrote. This simple phrase has a lot of meaning to us: keep your shit together, keep our relationship as sisters together, pressure to keep our image a certain way as young ladies.”
Lily adds, “Along with reflecting on the personal bonds that Madeleine and I both have, I also really wanted to focus more on the bigger picture and write about the experience of being a white woman in America and a collegeage kid in the 21st century. As I attempt to further discover who I am as an individual, the way society wants me to define myself is becoming clearer. It seems to me that young people are the same everywhere: regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic class. All young adults are in the same boat, trying to figure out what makes us individuals and trying to find our value in society.”
The new recording comes on the heels of the prolific duo’s highly-regarded sophomore release, Fumes, and is the their third full-length album in three years, following an EP and two LPs on Sufjan Stevens’ label Asthmatic Kitty. Of their last effort ELLE Magazine asserted, “...the twosome, known for their pinpoint harmonies and vocal precision, had no reservations about flipping the script this go-round: They amped up the production and gave their new album…a far more bombastic sound,” while NPR Musicpraised, “Fumes is a misleading record, the way a masterfully performed dance is misleading: It looks easy only because the complexities behind it are unfathomable to outsiders. There’s a borderlessness to Lily & Madeleine that leans from seamlessly natural to mesmerizingly preternatural, hinting at deeper forces at work than skill and practice.” Since their debut in 2013, the duo has performed on CBS’ “This Morning,” KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” NPR Music’s “Tiny Desk Concert” series and “A Prairie Home Companion.”

LUSH ANNOUNCES NEW MUSIC!

LUSH ANNOUNCES DETAILS OF THE RELEASE OF NEW MUSIC IN 20 YEARS. Photo credit: Gabriel GreenLush have announced details of the release of the  Blind Spot  EP on Friday, April 22nd, 2016 on their own label, Edamame Records. The track listing of the four-track EP, recorded in the summer of 2015 with Jim Abbiss (Adele, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys) and Daniel Hunt (Ladytron) at Abbiss' own Lime Green Monkeys studio, is as follows:1.   Out Of Control2.   Lost Boy3.   Burnham Beeches4.   Rosebud

Available as a limited gatefold edition 10", a regular 10", CD  & DL, the EP is the first new music released by the band since their single 500 (Shake Baby Shake), taken from their last album Lovelife, in July 1996. The EP will be accompanied by a video for the track Out Of Control, directed by Martin Andersen (www.andersenm.com), who also shot the images for the cover of the EP.  PRESS HERE to watch the video via  Pitchfork  now.Talking about the recording of the EP, Miki Berenyi commented:"It certainly took some time to set up, but once we were in the studio, everything came together incredibly quickly. It was great fun! It's been a long time since I've written Lush lyrics, and I realised early on with this EP that what I wrote about then is not what I feel comfortable writing about now. My perspective, and what is close to my heart, has changed, and I think that's conveyed in the songs."Bassist Phil King added:"I know I'm biased, but I work for a music magazine and so much of the music I hear played in the office sounds non-descript or derivative. Emma has this way of writing unusual chord changes and manages to weave lovely melodies over the top, and it immediately sounds distinctive, like Lush."Having played their last show in Tokyo in September 1996, the band also announced two shows at London's prestigious Roundhouse venue on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th May 2016at the end of last year. The first show on the Friday sold out in a matter of hours prompting them to announce a further show on the Saturday. The band also announced two tours of the West and East Coasts of North America, including appearances at the Coachella Festival.Formed in London in 1988 by childhood friends Emma Anderson and Miki Berenyi, Lush also included Chris Acland on drums and Phil King on bass (originally Steve Rippon, who left in 1990), and were widely acknowledged as one of the pioneers of a sound that was to be christened "shoegaze."

Signed to 4AD in 1989, over the course of three full-length albums, an early mini-album and a number of EPs and singles, they went on to sharpen their pop sound, outliving and outgrowing the 'scene' with which they were initially associated.

4AD recently released, to much acclaim, both a vinyl reissue of Lush's 'best of' compilationCiao! and a limited edition five-disc box set titled Chorus. The box set featured their three studio albums, an early compilation and a B-sides collection plus many rarities, some previously unreleased.

Sean Tillmann has been making records under the name Har Mar Superstar since 1999.  Under the Har Mar moniker Sean has gone through a plethora of phases ranging from fun-loving beats-based music pioneer (he and Peaches shared stages early on) to angry arena crowd opener (public lewdness police records to prove it) to soul music crooner.  His last album Bye Bye 17 opened a lot of peoples’ minds to his songwriting prowess, which has existed since day one of his career.

For years Tillmann was an artist’s artist when The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Gossip, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many other legends decided to collaborate and/ or take him on tour.  Different phases of his career brought him fame through the fickle worlds of indie, British pop, LA DJ-dom, and New York night crawling.

Bye Bye 17 was an eye opener to the music world, not that Tillmann wasn’t used to accolades through his former work with Sean Na Na, Gayngs, Neon Neon, and Calvin Krime.  Sean had “arrived as a songwriter”.  After living in LA and NYC for 12 years, Sean moved back to Minneapolis, MN where he is most creative.  With the help of Chris Bierden (Polica, Bye Bye 17), Ryan McMahon (Har Mar, Lizzo), Matt Sweeney (Chavez, Adele, Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash, Cat Stevens), and Ryan Olson (Polica, Marijuana Deathsquads) Har Mar Superstar’s album “Best Summer Ever” was born.

Best Summer Ever since it’s inception has been imagined as a Greatest Hits of Har Mar Superstar from 1950-1985.  Tillmann was born in 1978.  Wrap your head around that, please.

Best Summer Ever is a slow burner with many ballads, dance-able tracks, and co-writes.  Long-time friend Julian Casablancas (Cult Records founder, The Strokes), Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Erykah Badu, Voidz, Weezer), and Tillmann worked very closely to make the concept happen.  Karen O, Matt Sweeney, and James Levy (Reputante, Lolawolf) all helped write songs on the record.  Bobby Charles wrote “I Hope”.   “Youth Without Love” was a demo written by Julian that was sitting around that Har Mar fell in love with, so they made it for the record.

Look out for Har Mar Superstar, now fronting a six-piece band complete with horns, touring worldwide this year.  The live show has always been a fun, sweat-soaked celebration of joy.  The man was born to rock a stage.  Join the party.

Don’t fake your love.

Glen Hansard's A Season On The Line EP out today

GLEN HANSARD’S A SEASON ON THE LINE EP OUT TODAYVINYL RELEASE SET FOR APRIL 15 IN ANTICIPATION OF RECORD STORE DAYEUROPEAN TOUR BEGINS TODAY AND MORE DATES
TO BE ADDED SOON
“The central ingredient remains Hansard’s worn but wonderfully flexible voice, which sounds as kind and expressive as ever, with warmth to match the songs he sings.”—NPR Music A Season on the Line , the new EP from Glen Hansard, is out today via Anti- Records. The EP follows Hansard’s Grammy-nominated second solo outing Didn’t He Ramble, which was released last fall. During his worldwide tour in support of Didn't He Ramble, two songs continued to appear in his set—“Didn’t He Ramble” and “Way Back in the Way Back When”—though neither were included on the recent album or on any official release. Due to popular demand, Hansard included the two songs on the EP.
Recorded at Chicago’s Electrical Audio Studios on a day off between shows and featuring his touring band, “Didn’t He Ramble” and “Way Back in the Way Back When” bristle with all the energy that made them staples of the live show. A Season on the Line is rounded out by the tracks “Let Me In” and “Return,” both of which are from the intimate recording sessions for Didn’t He Ramble. Listen to the song “Didn’t He Ramble” here.
A Season on the Line will be released on vinyl April 15 in anticipation of Record Store Day. The vinyl will feature all four songs that are on the digital release.
Hansard will continue to tour worldwide in support of the new music with a European tour that kicks off today in Barcelona, Spain. See below for details. In addition, he recently performed on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.”
Hansard is the celebrated principal songwriter and vocalist/guitarist for the influential Irish group The Frames. Whether busking the streets of Dublin, where he got his start, or headlining a gig, Hansard has garnered a reputation as an unparalleled frontman. Hansard is also one half of the acclaimed duo The Swell Season. In 2007, he and Czech songstress Markéta Irglová took home the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Falling Slowly” off the Once soundtrack. In 2013, the Broadway adaptation,Once, The Musical, won eight Tony Awards including the top musical prize itself. His debut solo albumRhythm & Repose was released in 2012.

Moderat Presents Video for "Reminder" [from out Apr 1 on Mute]

MODERAT
(MODESELEKTOR + APPARAT)

RELEASE NEW VIDEO FOR
“REMINDER”

“REMINDER” DIGITAL BUNDLE OUT TODAY
10” OUT FEBRUARY 26th – 12” OUT MARCH 18th
III OUT APRIL 1ST ON MUTE/MONKEYTOWN “The song is huge and airy up top, with Apparat’s big, sweeping atmospheric flourishes high in the mix. And it’s intricate down low, with Modeselektor’s quick-hit drum pattern serving as a subdued anchor. The beat could easily hold its own as an instrumental, but delicate, dreamy vocals come in with some dark storytelling and vivid depictions.” — Stereogum

“A throbbing, dynamic lead single.” — Consequence of Sound

“Moderat has well-earned a reputation for balancing the experimental with the dancefloor rockout, and all of the subtleties within this track beg for repeat listening.” — Cool Hunting

“The cut is driven by a manic whap of percussive beat work and velvet synth textures, which all support the smooth and plaintive vocals of Apparat.” — Exclaim!

“The hypnotic track carries a tribal tone that should excite dance fans about Moderat’s welcome return.”
— Billboard
Moderat, the alliance of Berlin’s electronic heavy weights, Modeselektor and Apparat, recently presented “Reminder,” the debut single off new album,  III.  Today, the trio release the imaginative, politically charged visual accompaniment for this song produced by SEHSUCHT Berlin in cooperation with Pfadfinderei, Moderat’s longtime creative visual partner, and writer/director Mate Steinforth. They came up with the idea using gaming aesthetic and virtual reality production tools to make the experience truly and uniquely immersive.

In this video, a rebellious teenager slaves away in a dystopian world, harvesting crystals from a vast grey landscape. This sparkling bounty is given as an offering to a tribal deity, who resides in a shrine guarded by sentinels with green glowing masks, where he is constantly under attack from an army of drones.

Moderat fuse rousing basslines and intense breakbeats with gripping songs and a highly individual voice. The trio were initially brought together by Berlin’s now legendary rave scene, and with this as their common foundation, new album III signifies Moderat’s maturation in modern pop and mastery of the group.

As previously announced, Moderat’s III is out April 1st on Mute/Monkeytown. “Reminder” is out today on Digital Bundle, 10” out Feb 26th and 12” out March 18th. “Reminder” is available on streaming services and as an instant grat download with all iTunes preorders. The trio will take their impressive live show all over Europe and North America in support of this release. Pfadfinderei will join Moderat, taking the reins with visual direction. After catching the world's attention with a string of self-released songs in 2015, MUNA are back today to share the first taste from their forthcoming EP, which will be released later this spring. New song "Winterbreak" finds MUNA showcasing the full range of their songwriting abilities -- where early song "Loudspeaker" demonstrated the ease with which they could turn out a perfectly constructed pop song, "Winterbreak" sees them mining a sound decidedly more lush, lovelorn and homespun.
Speaking on the song and its inspiration, the band says "its about a love that you can't reconcile - wanting to make a home out of a person that has proved to you time and again that they are not a home; they are just a person. It's about retracing scars, negative patterns, all with the silent belief that moments of communion and understanding might justify months of misfiring and regret. We're all just trying to get back to that 'first high' feeling - an honest endeavor, however futile."
Listen to "Winterbreak" along with "Loudspeaker" below now, and stay tuned for more info about MUNA soon.

Daphne Guinness' "Marionettes" Video Premieres Today via Cool Hunting

DAPHNE GUINNESS’ “MARIONETTES” VIDEO PREMIERES TODAY VIA COOL HUNTINGDEBUT ALBUM OPTIMIST IN BLACK
OUT MAY 27
FIRST EVER MUSIC PROJECT FROM THE ARTIST AND CULTURAL ICON  Marionnettes,” the new video from artist and cultural icon Daphne Guinness’ debut albumOptimist in Black, premieres today via Cool Hunting. Watch it here. The highly-anticipated new album is the first ever music project from Guinness, set for release May 27.The video was directed by The Fashtons, the husband and wife duo of artist Ben Ashton and his photographer wife Fiona Garden. For the video, Ashton built a working Praxinoscope, a turn-of-the-century optical device—isolated loops of Daphne are brought to life by this striking mirrored object. In keeping with the spontaneous creative approach, Garden invited longtime collaborators designerAda Zanditon and mask artist Magnhild Kennedy (Damselfrau) to contribute pieces from their collections and join the team in studio.“This song is very personal to me,” says Guinness. “As indeed is the whole album. I cannot sing or write something false. There are as many interpretations of songs and images as there are people.“I met Fiona on a Wednesday and my intuition was to give her this song to listen to. And I knew from our conversation she understood. We started shooting two days later and I knew magic had indeed occurred.“If it is torture for another artist, if the song does not inspire them, there is no point forcing it. I loved collaborating and collaboration is magical. I feel very blessed to have met Fiona and Ben.“These songs are like children to me. They are my soul. To trust another person with them I have to be inspired too. Fiona got it right away.” Produced by Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T. Rex, The Dandy Warhols), Optimist in Black was recorded at New York’s Avatar Studios (formerly the Power Station). The video for first track “The Long Now” recently debuted via AnOther Magazine, watch it here and embed via Vevohere.“I began in music,” says Guinness. As a child Guinness regularly stepped in on vocals for a 60s covers band near her family’s Spanish home and always looked set to pursue a career in music, even gaining a place at the U.K.’s prestigious music academy, Guildhall School, before life (and marriage) had other plans. “I never thought I'd get back to my ‘home,’” she says. “And now I'm physically back in my home—Ireland—but also back doing what I was trained for, what I’m proficient at, but I thought I’d never see again. And it was like, ‘Oh my god, I’ve been given a second chance.’”Guinness featured on two covers of V Magazine in January, part of a special run guest-edited by Lady Gaga. The issue celebrates Gaga’s “Fashion Guard,” with special deference to Guinness’ close friends the late Alexander McQueen and Isabella Blow, in addition to Hedi Slimane, Karl Lagerfeld and more.Optimist In Black—which shares its title with the album track referencing the bleak period following the suicides of her close friends McQueen and Blow—explores male vanity, the malleability of identity, and the effects of alienation and ennui. It's deeply inspired by 60s psychedelia and 70s glam, reflecting Guinness’ own lifelong loves. Her formative listening habits, as a teen, were anachronistic: “I've always been stuck in the 60s. Jefferson Airplane, The Small Faces, as well as Robert Johnson and all the blues stuff, David Bowie and on the top, The Doors.”The project began with a chance meeting with Irish producer Pat Donne, Guinness’ main co-writer on the album, at the renowned Grouse Lodge studios near her County Westmeath home. The duo’s original demos were then sent to Visconti, more in hope than expectation. “I was sick with nerves, emailing to him. He could have thought ‘Oh, it's just this Guinness person.’ But he heard me through, and he loved it.”Guinness and Donne decamped to join Visconti at Avatar Studios, where recording sessions took a deeply surreal turn when David Bowie appeared at the studio. His approval of the snippets he heard from Optimist In Black further mesmerised Daphne; “I feel so blessed that Tony believed in me,” Daphne says. “I thought I'd got an A* from the headmaster.”Born in London, Guinness was raised between the U.K. and Cadaques, Spain, where her mother was a muse to neighbors Man Ray and Dalí. Shortly after graduating from school, Guinness married, had children and disappeared from public life. After re-emerging and reconnecting with her schoolgirl friend Isabella Blow, Guinness has been a muse to McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld, Philip Treacy and many more. Guinness has also made well-respected ventures in the world of film, with her name appearing on the back of the Oscar-nominated Cashback, which she co-produced, alongside a role in art film The Murder of Jean Seberg.http://daphneguinness.com/https://twitter.com/TheRealDaphne
