Wire Releases New Song “Nocturnal Koreans”

The English rock band Wire unveiled a stirring new single entitled “Nocturnal Koreans”. The unnervingly foreboding track paves the way for the upcoming mini-album set to unleash in April. Driven by deep bass and resounding electric guitars, “Nocturnal Koreans” features vocalist Colin Newman’s evocative vocals fused with an immersive, dense atmosphere.
After four influential decades in the music industry, Wire continues to evolve and expand their artistry. The London-based post-punk quartet was born in 1976 as a “musical project which treats the creative potential of a rock band as a fluid, amorphous medium”. With unique restlessness and recklessness in creativity, Wire approaches experimentalism with a constantly sharpening focus and edge.

The newly released single hints at the subtly intense and chilling material to come. Newman elaborates on the band’s novel approach with the upcoming album, Nocturnal Koreans:
The WIRE album was quite respectful of the band, and Nocturnal Koreans is less respectful of the band—or, more accurately, it’s the band being less respectful to itself — in that it’s more created in the studio, rather than recorded basically as the band played it, which was mostly the case with WIRE. A general rule for this record was: any trickery is fair game, if it makes it sound better.Since its inception in 1976, Wire disbanded twice, in 1980 and 1992, and reformed twice, in 1985 and 2000. In 2015, the legendary band released a self-titled album and a neon-colored music video for “High”. The band is now determined not to be viewed as a legacy act, as Newman explained when he said, “The thing about classic is that nobody’s interested in the new album… Wire doesn’t feel comfortable with that. We want to be a contemporary band, and we fought very, very hard for that status. It means more to us than anything else.”

Eagulls share new song + announce sophomore album
EAGULLS SHARE NEW SONG "MY LIFE IN REWIND"
ANNOUNCE SOPHOMORE ALBUM
ULLAGES DUE MAY 13TH VIA PARTISAN RECORDSAfter recently offering up a taste of their forthcoming sophomore album in the form of new song "Lemontrees," Leeds' Eagulls are back today to share a second track and detail their new album Ullages, which will be released on May 13th via Partisan Records. Instead of picking up where their critically acclaimed self-titled debut left off, Ullages shows the band flexing more refined songwriting muscle and carving out a new sound for themselves.
Where "Lemontrees" illustrated this transition, new track "My Life In Rewind" perfectly illustrates the transformation the band has made on Ullages. In it they challenge the most melodic elements showcased on the self-titled album and explore them more thoughtfully -- the result falling somewhere between the opulence of Cocteau Twins and the ominous gloom of Pornography-era The Cure.
Check out the track above now, see below for all Ullages information and stay tuned for more Eagulls news very soon.

"(Santigold) has remained at the forefront of pop innovation" – NPR
“Ferociously joyous” - StereogumIn advance of the release of her third album 99¢ this Friday, February 26, Santigold has revealed an innovative new video for “Can’t Get Enough Of Myself (feat. B.C.)” that uses the camera of the viewer's computer or mobile device to incorporate them into the video in real time. This is the first time the technology has been used in a music video. The video was directed by Santigold and Sam Fleischner and conceptualized and digitally developed by Yung Jake and Vince Mckelvie, with mobile app development by Bryan Yee. It plays on pop culture’s fascination with viewing and manipulating one’s own image. The video should be viewed on the web using Chrome as the browser and is available for mobile handheld devices via the “SANTIGOLD” app available in both the Apple/Android app stores. The video is premiering on Mashable, experience it here and at Santigold.com/Webcam
Last week, Santigold (pronounced Sahn-Tee-Gold; Santi like “Monty”, not Santy like “Panty”) partnered with NPR First Listen offering fans a chance to stream the album in full ahead of the February 26th release. 99¢ explores the commercial nature of our world and the ways in which we package ourselves and our lives for consumption. The use of playful satire, social critique, and self-examination to explore these themes is reflected in the album’s cover art, collaboration with photographer Haruhiko Kawaguchi. Stream the full album via NPR here.Santigold and Tumblr IRL are hosting a special record release event at Jack’s 99¢ Store (110 W. 32nd St.) in New York City this Friday, February 26th as part of Tumblr’s IRL ongoing series. The free event will feature a DJ set, art installation, and more surprises. Santigold’s Tumblr has been functioning as a visual extension of the album’s themes of hyper-consumption and narcissism with exclusive videos being added continually. The series of pop up windows in the site’s design echo the experience of navigating through advertisements when searching online. The event will bring the world of 99¢ and Santigold’s Tumblr to life! Follow IRLIRL.tumblr.com for entry details. Santigold recently announced a North American spring tour, the “We Buy Gold Tour”. Renown for her monumental live shows, Santigold is taking it all to the next level in the brand new stage production. Tickets available here: http://smarturl.it/SantiTourFollowing her last album, Master of My Make Believe, Santigold wanted to explore new corners of her sound and different ways to convey her vision and social commentary. She worked with new collaborators Patrik Berger, Rostam Batmanglij, Hit-Boy, HazeBanga, Justin Raisen, Zeds Dead, ILOVEMAKONNEN, and Sam Dew and longtime cohorts John Hill, Dave Sitek, and Doc McKinney. The result is the bright and big sound of 99¢ that takes the genre-defying fearlessness Santigold has become known for to new places.

“Somehow, they’ve managed to balance organic, unfiltered energy with the finesse necessary to craft lush and dreamy soundscapes that make you want to both chill and get up to dance and freak out – which is quite a feat.” – Alt Citizen

High Waisted’s new single, “Door,” out via Noisey, breathes life back into surf-pop, looking back to Dick Dale and the true gods (and goddesses) of surf guitar and adding the effortless cool of Jessica Louise Dye’s vocal attitude to transport the genre to a new century and a new coast.
Following the well-received video for “Party in the Back", the band has been gaining momentum for the upcoming self-release. High Waisted is known for their contagious bubbly energy and ability to bring the party along wherever they go, from Chinatown to the snowy plains of Iowa. The band documented their Midwestern US tour on Impose’s Shot By the Band series, making it clear that a little ice and snow won’t slow them down – even making time between rowdy bar shows and tour adventures to record a session for Daytrotter.
High Waisted thrives on letting the city that never sleeps join in as another member of the band, holding just as much influence as any of the members and serving as the perfect backdrop to the endless summer nights spent on rooftops, the crushes gone wrong, and the friendships and memories that make it all right again. On Ludlow is Jessica Louise Dye’s narrative of love and life in the Lower East Side filtered through a lens of reverb and sunshine.

Wall of Death share new single + album teaser video
WALL OF DEATH SHARES NEW SINGLE + ALBUM TEASER VIDEO VIA SPIN
LOVELAND OUT MARCH 4TH VIA INNOVATIVE LEISUREListen: "Blow The Clouds" - https://soundcloud.com/innovativeleisure/wall-of-death-blow-the-clouds-2
Watch: Loveland teaser - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Tqw48dIp6U
Psychedelic and dynamic, Loveland follows the band's desolate and heavy 2012 debut, Main Obsessions, and sees the band realizing their full potential. With able and agile studio help from producer Hanni El Khatib, engineers Jonny Bell (also of Innovative Leisure's Crystal Antlers) and Sonny DiPerri (Animal Collective, Portugal The Man), Wall of Death have created a dense and deeply individual album that makes an instant into a lifetime. There are no brutish garage ragers here, and no plotless jam sessions, either. Loveland is the definition of a slow-burn, with cinematic pace and limitless space and a Mellotron that's practically another member of the band.
Wall of Death is made up of Gabriel Matringe, the guitarist and ex-cello player, and Brice Borredon, who grew up in the country in the south of France and who dedicated himself completely to the piano at age 6, and Adam Ghoubali, who taught himself drums after hearing the Doors.

Fire Records are extraordinarily thrilled to release a Robert Pollard record world-wide. Of Course You Are is solo album number twenty four (!) by the tireless Guided By Voices auteur. Meticulously constructed, Of Course You Are is overstuffed with hooky tunes, riffs aplenty and skewed/skewering lyrics.
Pity the poor rock critic who tries to keep up with Robert Pollard. If your magnificent-opus-listening time is circumscribed, play track #6, "I Can Illustrate" three times in a row. The wizardry of Pollard's craft is easy to overlook on a cursory spin. Three listens and you'll be hooked, lined, and sinkered.
To some extent, the new solo album is a natural outgrowth of Pollard's 2015 work with Ricked Wicky; and to some extent it's a return to early-2000s Guided By Voices, with its combination of instrumental virtuosity and Pollard's uniquely oblique approach to songwriting. All of the instruments on Of Course You Are were played by Ricked Wicky's Nick Mitchell, who also recorded/produced the record, and Mitchell's evident musicianship lifts the material to another sonic level without over-polishing. The instrumental palette has been broadened -- discreet flourishes of strings, horns, piano (etc.) occasionally bring to mind baroque rock classics by the likes of Love and Cardinal. Which is not to say this is chamber pop. These songs are all determinedly guitar-driven, however textured, and rock as hard as anything Pollard's done to date. Mitchell's occasional virtuosic solos are concise, but the guy can shred, and when he does, he does. (We refer the listener to the exquisite "Promo Brunette" for illustration.) Mitchell is a heretofore hidden gem discovered by Pollard in their mutual Dayton, OH hometown.
As tuneful as you'd expect from anything issuing from Pollard's pen, Of Course You Are runs the usual gamut of Pop, Prog, Psych, and even Punk-oriented tracks. His vocals are impeccable, his phrasing as sharp as ever – he seems invigorated by the collaborative juice provided by Mitchell, who himself has clearly been liberated by the opportunity to take the reins in the studio, and delivers in (aces of) spades.
Taking nothing away from any of Pollard's previous co-conspirators, Mitchell's inspired, unmuddied production and precise playing on Of Course You Are hits all the right marks – underlining the direct emotional tug of "That's The Way You Gave It To Me" with melancholic Court of the Crimson King-era mellotron, providing a swirling psychedelic backdrop not too far removed from Mr. Blue Sky-era ELO on "Losing It," and punching up the album's rock-hard opener "My Daughter Yes She Knows." "Long Live Instant Pandemonium’s" classic rock riffs contrast the poignant strings on "Come And Listen," while "Contemporary Man (He’s Our Age)" foregrounds Pollard’s vocal musings over kinetic percussion and electronics (and more strings).
Taken altogether, the twelve concise song-slabs on Pollard's first album of 2016 (you and I both know it won't be his last) make for both an auspicious start to the New Year of Bob and a welcome harbinger of great things to come. Don't sleep. Seriously. Don't.

WHITE LUNG unveil first single "Hungry" and announce new album 'Paradise' on out May 6

WHITE LUNG ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM PARADISEOUT MAY 6 ON DOMINO
SHARE VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE 'HUNGRY', WATCH HERE

After the critically acclaimed release Deep Fantasy (2014), White Lung return with their fourth studio album Paradise , due out May 6, 2016 on Domino. Coming in at a succinct yet powerful 28 minutes, the album simmers with desire and pain, love and beauty, and a seething urgency, hurtling towards the album closer and title track Paradise at signature breakneck speed. In addition to today's album announce, White Lung are pleased to share the video for first single 'Hungry', which was written by Mish Barber-Way and Justin Gradin, directed by Gradin, and stars Amber Tamblyn (Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants, The Ring, 127 Hours, House).
Says Gradin on the video:
"'Hungry' plays with identity and perception, and the idea that sometimes public attention can create more isolation and delusion. The video focuses on a self-obsessed girl (who is barely famous as the model on a brand of canned condensed milk) as she struggles to seem important while being haunted by the ghosts of fame until her eventual epiphany of disposability."
Watch the 'Hungry' video HERE

For the making of Paradise, vocalist Mish Barber-Way, guitarist Kenneth William and drummer Anne-Marie Vassiliou reconnected in Los Angeles to work with producer Lars Stalfors (HEALTH, Cold War Kids, Alice Glass). In October of 2015, White Lung spent a month in the studio, working closely with Stalfors to challenge what could be done with their songs. Bringing all the energy, unique guitar work and lyrical prowess the band are known for to the studio, White Lung curated their songs with a new pop sensibility, focusing in on making a record for the present - "I wanted a record that sounded like it was made in 2016", said William. Mixed by Stalfors and later mastered by Joe LaPorta, Paradise is their smartest, brightest songwriting yet.
Mish Barber-Way and Kenneth William sat down with Annie Clark a.k.a St. Vincent to discuss the making of the album and their creative process. The entire conversation can be read here. "There's this really stupid attitude that only punks have where it's somehow uncool to become a better songwriter. In no other musical genre are your fans going to drop you when you start progressing. That would be like parents being disappointed in their child for graduating from kindergarten to the first grade. Paradise is the best song writing we have ever done, and I expect the next record to be the same. I have no interest in staying in kindergarten." - Mish Barber-Way, in conversation with Annie Clark

Summer Cannibals Announce 3rd Full-Length LP,
Full Of It, Out May 27 via Kill Rock Stars
Announce National Spring Tour with The Thermals
1st Single “Go Home” Revealed By SPIN
"On their sophomore album, the members of Summer Cannibals bring raw and driving guitar rock, with shredding from front woman Jessica Boudreaux and an attitude that honors the band’s namesake, a song performed by Patti Smith." — NPR All Songs Considered
"The wicked wit of the lyrics, the roar of that guitar, and the melodies of sweet & sour confections such as ‘Something New,’ ‘Summer,’ ‘Not Your Turn,’ and the title track are thoroughly addictive." — Sound Opinions, Jim DeRogatis“Show Us Your Mind shows off how much the band has evolved in the short time it’s been together, with songs that refine the fuzzy garage-pop of its debut into something sharper, tighter, and much more difficult to shake off.” — Entertainment Weekly
Photo Credit: John ClarkRecently joining the venerable roster of legendary independent label Kill Rock Stars, Portland rock band Summer Cannibals have announced the release of their 3rd full-length LP, Full Of It, out May 27. Led by guitarist/vocalist Jessica Boudreaux and aided by a new powerhouse rhythm section of drummer Devon Shirley, bassist Jenny Logan and guitarist Marc Swart, the 11 songs spark with that perfect mix of snotty attitude, unbounded energy, and window rattling volume. The band will bring this energy to stages across North America as they join The Thermals on a national tour. Tickets are currently on sale HERE. The four musicians keep their collective foot on the gas pedal, roaring through tunes like the jagged, wailing opening track “Go Home”. “Say My Name” simmers with a sweet melody and a powerful chorus commanding listeners to attention. Energetic album title track “Full Of It” is an immediate earworm of distorted guitar, growling bass and irresistible vocal licks.“Simple Life” simultaneously slows the tempo and amps up Boudreaux’ signature epic guitar antics, making for an anthemic album closer.“Go Home” premiered with SPIN yesterday.
We encourage you to post & share! The new album Full Of It is the band’s defining statement to date. Recorded at the amazing analog recording studio The Dock with producer Chris Woodhouse (Thee Oh Sees, Wild Flag), the LP is one of those massive leaps forward that has defined the Summer Cannibals sound. NOTHING shares new music + In-studio trailer + LP due 5/13 via Relapse Records
NOTHING SHARES NEW TRACK "VERTIGO FLOWERS" AND IN-STUDIO TRAILER
ANNOUNCES MAY 13 RELEASE DATE FOR TIRED OF TOMORROW (RELAPSE RECORDS)
SHARES UPCOMING FESTIVAL TOUR DATES

NOTHING have given their sophomore LP, Tired Of Tomorrow , a May 13th release date and are back to share the first new music from the album. "Vertigo Flowers" was released earlier today and can be streamed via the link above. Dominic Palermo from the band describes the origins of the song and hints at the horrific year he had;
"I was walking to the bank one day with a couple friends and I believed a car full of men was following me around. I walked through the parking lot and into a Walmart and hid there for a couple hours. I was experiencing a new consistent spell of vertigo that I believed may have been a direct result of a recent brain trauma and hospital stay. Everything seemed hazy and for a few weeks I was having a hard time sorting everything out. In the studio the vertigo never really stopped so a lot of the lyrics I had previously wrote for songs I decided to change because whatever was going on in my head I wanted out."
In conjunction with the music, the band also shares upcoming festival tour dates and an in-studio trailer for a visceral look at the band's raw moments directed by Don Argott. Tired Of Tomorrow will be coming out on CD / LP / Deluxe 2xLP with two bonus tracks Cassette / Digital. Physical pre-order is available here and digital pre-order is here. The in-studio trailer and upcoming tour dates are below. And be sure to read more about NOTHING because their story is anything but typical.

About NOTHING:
People often wonder why Philadelphia's NOTHING are so damn loud. In the case of many artists, the volume stems from a preoccupation with negativity, misanthropy and the human condition. But while NOTHING's attitude lines up with these ideas, their personality isn't one that the band picked from a list of cliches. Instead, it's one that's been molded by the band's own experiences, from family troubles and personal tragedy to a string of bad luck that Murphy's Law would balk at. And that volume, rather than a selling point, is the only way the band has been able to translate the difficulty of real-life events into musical form.
NOTHING frontman Domenic Palermo got his start as the brains behind the late 90s/early 2000s hardcore/punk act Horror Show in the crime-riddled neighborhoods of Frankford & Kensington in North Philadelphia. Unfortunately, Horror Show's existence was cut short In 2002, when Palermo was incarcerated for an aggravated assault charge (to which he pleaded self-defense) and subsequently served a 2-year prison sentence. After getting out of prison and working the next 5 years under watch of Pennsylvania parole board, Palermo took a lengthy hiatus from music, entering a period of personal reflection that led him through a maze of death, negativity and uncertainty. Nicky returned to music in 2010, and founded NOTHING with the release of the demo Poshlost (named for an intense and quintessentially Russian form of spiritual banality). Following the release of Poshlost , Palermo met Brandon Setta, who would bring lush, rich soundscapes and a fresh approach to Palermo's vision for NOTHING and to the band's next two EPs, Suns And Lovers (Big Love, 2011) and Downward Years To Come (A389, 2012).
NOTHING then signed to Relapse for their debut 2014 full-length Guilty Of Everything , which was inspired by the events surrounding Palermo's prison sentence. The album's genuineness and widespread critical acclaim (from publications such as Rolling Stone, NPR, Stereogum, SPIN, Noisey, The FADER, Vogue and many others) seemed to forecast a new, more positive chapter for NOTHING. The band toured Europe and North America extensively in support of Guilty, and performed at festivals including Osheaga, Roadburn, Firefly, Budweiser Made In America, and SXSW, but this period was unfortunately brief. In summer 2015, while on the eighth consecutive month of a non-stop tour that had seen the band performing with the likes of DIIV, Merchandise, Torche, Failure, Hum and more, Palermo was mugged and badly injured in Oakland, CA. The assault ultimately left Palermo with a fractured skull & orbital, nineteen staples, and a drastically re-shaped perspective about his music and life in a larger sense.
That new mindset, which the band hadn't been able to realize until Palermo's injury, forced them to come up for air from the endless touring - "Like when you're in a car going 100 miles per hour and connect with an oak tree and everything behind you comes smashing forward," Palermo said. That was the basis for the band's new record Tired Of Tomorrow , which was recorded over the course of a month at Studio 4 with Will Yip (Title Fight, Superheaven, Touche Amore, etc) this past October. Even since the completion of Tired Of Tomorrow , NOTHING have faced new challenges and difficulties that would certainly have sunk a lesser band. As NOTHING were gearing up to release Tired Of Tomorrow via Collect Records, the band discovered that the label had been funded by the now-infamous hedge fund manager Martin Shkreli. After Collect Records and their entire roster eventually dissolved under the weight of the controversy, NOTHING were left adrift. Former partner Relapse Records got on board with releasing the new album, but NOTHING were not finished with their trials - just this past November, Palermo's father unexpectedly passed away in a tragic accident, heaping the band with further personal difficulties on top of their professional ones.
Yet throughout all this, the band has always managed to maintain a unique stoicism alongside its apathy, one that extends beyond mere riffs and reverb. All the band's music, especially Tired of Tomorrow and Guilty Of Everything , have managed to work past, present and future simultaneously into their approach, both musically and thematically. Borrowing from personal memoir and external works alike, NOTHING have worked the deepest influences of their youth & maturation into a package that's ultimately at its most relevant in the present day. Case in point: Tired Of Tomorrow was written before the Shkreli debacle, but as Palermo sees it, those events only served to strengthen the sentiments and ideas behind Tired Of Tomorrow rather than confuse its message. It's a mess to think about, but as always, the contradictions and paradoxes of the kind NOTHING harnesses ultimately lead to the greatest revelations, and the band's personal and tragic path has nonetheless led NOTHING to produce deeply heartfelt and inspiring music. Whichever way you want to look at it, you can't deny that NOTHING feels good.
