Banks & Steelz release a "Giant" [video]

A little more than a month out from the release of their collaborative project Anything But Words ,Banks & Steelz -a musical collaboration between Wu-Tang Clan's RZA and Interpol's Paul Banks - have released the second video from the album, "Giant" directed by Wendy Morgan.
WATCH: http://smarturl.it/giant.mv
Produced by John Hill and Kid Harpoon (Florence + The Machine), "Giant" premiered on Zane Lowe's Beat 1 program last month and will be used in a trailer for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands video game.
Anything But Words will be released on August 28th and features appearances by Florence Welchof Florence + The Machine, Kool Keith, and Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah, Method Man, andMasta Killa. The two began working on music together in 2013. RZA told Rolling Stone at the time that the idea to collaborate with the Interpol front-man sparked after RZA's manager asked him who he wanted to do an album with. "When I met Paul, I recognized the New York energy he has as a music artist," RZA says. "We got to know each other playing chess and vibing out in the studio. Our talents connected in a unique way and we started writing songs. The outcome was something distinctively different from my previous work, yet with another layer of cool." After kicking off their first show as Banks & Steelz to a sold-out crowd in Los Angeles last week, the pair will hit the road at the end of August for a series of tour and festival dates through October.

Yann Tiersen Shares New Track, 'EUSA' Album Out September 30
YANN TIERSEN
UNVEILS BRAND NEW TRACK
“ROC’H AR VUGALE”
EUSA – FIRST SOLO PIANO ALBUM RELEASE
OUT SEPTEMBER 30 2016

PHOTO CREDIT: Christopher Espinosa FernandezYANN TIERSEN has announced details of a brand new album,
EUSA
, out September 30, 2016 via Mute.
The new album, recorded at Abbey Road, is Tiersen’s first ever album of solo piano music, and follows 2014’s album release, ∞ (Infinity).
Watch a short film of Tiersen at Abbey Road recording “Roc’h Ar Vugale” HERE .
Location is important to everything Yann Tiersen does, and here, he has taken his connection with the land one step further. The collection of 10 solo piano pieces forms a musical map of Tiersen’s home island Ushant (“Eusa” in the local Breton language), which is positioned in the Celtic sea between Brittany and Cornwall.
Each track was conceived in and named after a location on the island. Initially, tracks were only available as sheet music, with each piano piece accompanied by a photograph of the location and a field recording. For his album he took things a step further – firstly, Tiersen manipulated his original field recordings to create a subtle drone of the natural noises on the island, then took everything to Studio 1 at Abbey Road and recorded the solo piano.
Between each piece we hear the sounds of the island, and Tiersen’s improvisations that are all titled “Hent.” Hent translates from Breton to English as Path, and with each one Tiersen leads the listener across the island landscape to a new location.
His full immersion into the rustic way of life and his admiration for desolate, sparsely-inhabited landscapes all seem a far cry from the cutesy postcard image of Montmartre and the soundtrack for the film Amélie (Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001), from which some might best recognize Tiersen. In fact, this album sees a more stripped back production last seen on the collaborative soundtrack for Good Bye Lenin! (Wolfgang Becker, 2003) and before that, of course, on his debut, La Valse Des Monstres , originally written for a theatrical adaptation of Tod Browning’s Freaks, and later mined for the Amélie soundtrack.
EUSA artworkYann Tiersen recently premiered the compositions on a sold out tour that included two Barbican dates. The Independent described the performance as "innovative, constantly shifting and seeking to build on that landscape he evokes with each note." (4* live review), and The Guardian described Tiersen’s"...devastatingly effective way with a melody" (4* live review).
The 2016 dates continue with two performances at the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival on August 21 and 22, with an autumn tour continuing through October.

NOTS share "Inherently Low" - New album 'Cosmetic' on Goner Records Sept 9

NOTS: "INHERENTLY LOW"
NEW ALBUM COSMETICOUT SEPTEMBER 9 ON GONER RECORDS

Photo: Don Perry
LISTEN/ SHARE: "INHERENTLY LOW" ON SOUNDCLOUD Cosmetic fearlessly attacks the rough edges between desire, deceit, appearance and reality. The inevitable immersion in the constant news about the U.S. election was a huge influence for lyricist Natalie Hoffmann. Nots' strenuous tour schedule and long drives pushed her to continuously write down reactions to life - good, bad and evil - along with the constant and "incredibly horrifying" flow of hate mongering and violence taking place.
"Inherently Low" was difficult for her to write about, Hoffmann explains, "it deals very much with depression and loss. The chorus describes a feeling of being trapped in your current state of mind, so much so that it begins to feed upon itself and falsely make you believe that you always were and always will be that way. I believe that in many ways this feeling is created and perpetrated by a society that is set up to purposefully keep many people low - undereducated, unable to be healthy, and just generally depressed at the current state of affairs in the world - in order to benefit a select group who hold the strings, and who will do anything to keep control." NOTS have arrived at the next level of their attack with a confidence and a music that lays waste to the wasteland without romantic attachment to a thing. Still a wild guitar band, but above and below the guitar, bass and drum pound, Alexandra Eastburn's analog synth blurps melodies and nonsense, teasing squiggles of freedom which defy the false grid of modern life. Cosmetic? Emetic? "Monotone Lust" indeed. With Hoffmann on guitar and vocals, Eastburn on synth, Charlotte Watson beating drums, and Meredith Lones steering a solid path through the chaos on bass, NOTS are neither content with the smug "stare at your shoes" approach of bands from both coasts, nor an Earth-hugging "we need to get back to nature" hippie copout.

Wovenhand premiere first track from forthcoming new album 'Star Treatment'
Wovenhand premiere first track from forthcoming new album via Stereogum Hear & share "Come Brave" (Soundcloud)
Wovenhand announce their forthcoming new album Star Treatment today with a premiere of the first track via Stereogum. Star Treatment will be available on Sargent House worldwide -- excluding Europe, where it will be released by longtime Wovenhand label Glitterhouse Records -- on September 9th. Hear and share "Come Brave" HERE . (Direct Soundcloud).
The band plays Psycho Las Vegas fest on August 26th before embarking on an extensive European tour with main support from Emma Ruth Rundle, also of the Sargent House family, on all shows except Helsinki and Reeperbahn Fest. Please see complete dates below.
The music of Wovenhand and songwriter/multi-instrumentalist David Eugene Edwards has always had an unparalleled intensity. Edwards' rich, billowing and emotive voice is always the driving force of his music, but it's catapulted by his spellbinding ability to transform instruments that many people might consider mundane relics - be it banjo, accordion, lesser-known folk instruments from around the world, or even an electric guitar - into devices of dark fury and poignant beauty.
From the apocalyptic revivification of antique Americana of Sixteen Horsepower in the 90s to the threadbare balladry of Wovenhand's early releases, Edwards' music has maintained its celestial heaviness as it evolved. But now in its current incarnation, Wovenhand is a band that fully expands that power with exacting and inventive skill. It's a sound so distinctive and compellingly crushing that even the heaviest of metal bands can't match.
Wovenhand's current lineup includes guitarist Chuck French, bassist Neil Keener (both of Planes Mistaken For Stars) and drummer Ordy Garrison, now joined by piano/synth player Matthew Smith (Crime & The City Solution). Star Treatment was recorded at Steve Albini's legendary Electrical Audio in Chicago with engineer Sanford Parker, who also helmed Wovenhand's 2014 album Refractory Obdurate.
While Wovenhand ought to be a familiar name to anyone interested in forward-thinking music, the album title Star Treatment isn't a reference to our celebrity culture obsession. Rather, it's a clever reference to concepts of astrolatry, or humanity's enduring interest in the stars of the night sky.
"It's ethereal in its concept," Edwards explains. "There are many layers, as always. I've been paying attention to the stars in the sky and in literature, and it's a theme throughout the album." He adds, "There's more love song style on this in general, which is nice. The idea of what love is and how it's expressed and all these different atmospheres."
Star Treatment kicks off full tilt with the anthemic charge of "Come Brave" - the song's galloping four-on-the-floor drums driving churning swells of droning, chiming guitars and organ as Edwards' soaring voice compels us to rise and join the fray. "The Hired Hand" takes a more Western bent with swaggering guitars awash in reverb and a throbbing bass line before the chorus erupts with massive open guitar chords as Edwards howls, "give up your dead." Further, "Crystal Palace" sounds like Eastern European folk driven through a massive wall of amplifiers while a full gospel choir sings just beneath the gurgling surface of guitars. "Crook and Flail" sounds exotic in its twanging acoustic instruments and tabla/dumbec drum pattern. Elsewhere, "Golden Blossom" is a lush and beautifully unabashed love song, strummed out in a simple, catchy melody that builds to crescendo with the chorus refrain, "only you, my love and your light." Throughout, Wovenhand deftly merge the outer reaches of rock and world folk sounds with increasing urgency and force.

Ahead of the release of their soaring debut album Crayon Soul, New York’s Corbu are streaming the new single ‘Better Better Off’. A swirling anthem, ‘Better Better Off’ perfectly balances trippy desert rock with glacial stargazing. Corbu’s Crayon Soul is released August 5th via 3Beat (EU) & Big Picnic (US).
The band recently gave an insight into their vivid and fully realised world with the animated video to the track ‘Battles’. The video hints at the narrative that began to unfold as frontman Jonathan Graves was writing the record. Each track tells a different part of the story, taking the listener on a true journey through Corbu’s vibrant imagination. Despite taking inspiration from science fiction and psychedelia, the album also pulls from the band’s real life experiences to create a body of work that is both otherworldly and deeply personal.
Crayon Soul is produced by Corbu and mixed by Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, The Flaming Lips). It follows two acclaimed EPs, We Are Sound and Everything You Imagine Is Real, which garnered praise from the likes of NYLON, Stereogum, The Guardian, NME and more, as well as capturing the attention of Jessie Ware, who personally requested the band to remix her song ‘You & I (Forever)’.

Mass Gothic will release the Sup Goth digital EP on August 5th worldwide through Sub Pop. The 5-song effort was recorded in New York this past spring, shortly after the release of Mass Gothic. Where the group’s self-titled debut chronicled the depths of depression, Sup Goth is the resulting catharsis. The EP is also a collaborative affair between Noel Heroux and partner / bandmate Jessica Zambri, as it is the first Mass Gothic recording the pair have completed together.
Says Heroux, “I followed my previously usually-ignored instinct to allow the noise and color in my head to inform a specific, intentional sound as opposed to ‘throwing it all at the wall’ as I've done a thousand times before. It’s lyrically loose and conversational, informed by sonic landscape and stream of conscience. Jess approached her vocals similarly, although we hadn't talked about it prior. We ended up with all these semi-hidden communications between us in the songs.”
Brooklyn Magazine says of “A Run“: "It’s expansive and positive and shimmering and anthemic, coming from a brave place populated by two people for whom love really does conquer all (see feature July 25th).”
Mass Gothic have also scheduled a short east coast tour in support of the EP and it’s self-titled debut, with label mate Kyle Craft. The trek begins August 9th in Montreal at La Vitrola and ends August 13th in Philadelphia at Boot & Saddle. There will be additional live dates announce soon.
Mass Gothic also recently delivered a stark visual for the song “Nice Night,” from their self-titled debut, directed by returning director Addison Post (“Every Night You’ve Got To Save Me”).
Mass Gothic is now also available on CD / LP / DL / CASS worldwide from Sub Pop.

Don't bring babies. No dogs. Bring a picture of your dog. Wear a shirt with a picture of your cousin on it. Take the bus. Have a beer/juice/water. Call a cab. Carpool with your neighbor. Pet a cat on the street if it lets you, but don't be too pushy."
