Haley Bonar Shares "Stupid Face" with SPIN; New Album Impossible Dream Out August 5

Haley Bonar Shares "Stupid Face" with SPIN New Album Impossible Dream Out August 5 Fall Tour Dates Announced photo credit: Graham Tolbert "Impossible Dream, finds the underrated Minnesotan in top form, mixing darkness and light with a deft touch." -  NPR “Bonar creates a whimsical masterclass of indie-pop songwriting.” -  Consequence Of Sound "In the past 10 years, she naturally progressed from stripped-down folk and country music to incorporating various layers of sound ranging from classical piano to sunshine pop.” -  Interview Stream: "Stupid Face" via SPIN or SoundCloudWatch: "Kismet Kill" official video via  NPR First Watch Stream: “Called You Queen” via NPR's All Songs ConsideredStream: “I Can Change” via  Stereogum  or  SoundCloud Haley Bonar will release her upcoming full length album Impossible Dream on August 5th via GNDwire (US) / Spit Comet (CA) / Memphis Industries (UK + EU). The album was recorded on analog tape in at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, MN and was mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TVOTR) & Robbie Lackritz (Feist) at Haut Bruun. SPIN has premiered the lastest single from the album "Stupid Face." SPIN says, "You might not have heard someone called a “stupid face” since you were in 7th grade, but somehow Haley Bonar makes the insult sound grown-up, even whimsical as she coos the words in a forceful whisper on her new song. The indie-pop track is an a mix of moody verses and piercing choruses, over a rapid heartbeat of drums and synths. “ Stupid Face is streaming now to share via  SoundCloud.  Last month,  NPR's First Watch  premiered the official video for "Kismet Kill" from Impossible Dream. The video was directed by Nicole Brending and produced by Tanya K Silver. NPR's Stephen Thompson on the video, "The video for 'Kismet Kill,' in which a party-loving prom queen stares down a life that can never compare to the glories of high school, captures many of Bonar's considerable gifts: Like her music, it pairs shimmery beauty and indelible imagery with an undercurrent of bleakness that can be almost suffocating. As always, "Kismet Kill" finds Bonar packing a cocktail of mixed emotions into bold, economical phrasing — "I was impossible when I was beautiful," she sings in the chorus — while never letting self-laceration stand in the way of a good earwormHaley Bonar has spent a lot of the past few years poring over her past. That has something to do with the sound of her recent recordings, whether it be her recent solo efforts or the throwback funky punky grooves of her side project Gramma’s Boyfriend.

But on her latest album Impossible Dream, this glance in the rearview has also inspired some of the most poignant and pointed work of her long career as songwriter even if you have to dig a little to find Bonar within the tunes.

Impossible Dream then, like all of Bonar’s work, gains its power from a combination of the personal and universal. Even when she sings about her days hitting up basement punk shows on “Better Than Me” or kicks off this album with an ode to her formative years in the gently chiming “Hometown,” it will surely stir up memories from your own younger days.
And as with her prior albums, Bonar reveals a widescreen look at the world, touching on issues of sexuality, jealousy, and the fragile ties that bind relationships together. If they connect with your circumstance and the cultural conversation at large, that’s just a welcome coincidence.“Those things have always been relevant to me,” Bonar says. “Those conversations have been happening my entire life.”
What is clear right now is the impact this album is looking to have on the world at large. Bonar has already received some excited press notices about the two singles from Impossible Dream that have already been released: “I Can Change” (“a resolute pillar of bold, classic songwriter,” according to The Line of Best Fit) and “Kismet Kill,” which  Stereogum  called “a penetrating rumination on just how transitory love and beauty can be.“). The biggest stamp of approval, though, has come from Elton John. The venerated singer/songwriter chose to play “I Can Change” on his Beats 1 show Rocket Man Radio. “Hearing Elton John say my song is beautiful is pretty awesome,” Bonar admits.
To say that Bonar’s career has been building towards that nod from a rock god, though, is to dismiss all the hard work she has done since she started releasing music in 2001. The 33-year-old singer/songwriter has been building a fanbase slowly and steadily, while remaining in complete control of her art. As with all of her prior albums, Bonar wrote and arranged all the songs onImpossible Dream. She also co-produced the record with Minneapolis mainstay Jacob Hanson. Chances are she’d be making this music even without the support of a label or her many fans around the world. But, just as the title of this new album suggests, she’s living out her wildest and most impossible dream right now.
“If somebody came to me as a teenager and said, ‘In 15 years, you’ll have made nine records and be touring the world,’ I would have been, like, ‘No way,’” she says, laughing. “It’s true that it might not look like a lot to some people, but it’s very special to me.”Haley Bonar has also announced fall US and UK shows. Breanna Barbara Streams 'Mirage Dreams' LP On Consequence of Sound

Album Out Friday 7.22 Via No Roads Records

Record Release Show This Friday At Berlin NYC
LISTEN & SHARE: Breanna Barbara - 'Mirage Dreams'

"This singer-songwriter is undeniably the product of steamy Southern summers, the kind where the air’s so sultry that there’s nothing to do but crank up the amps and drown your sorrows in a pool of sweat." Consequence of Sound

"If you dig Alabama Shakes, there’s a good chance you’ll dig this too...It’s swaggering, smoky blues rock, with fuzzed-out riffs, organs, and Breanna’s attitude-fueled voice leading the way." Brooklyn Vegan

"For anybody wondering how to transition moments of sadness into something positive, and even creative, meet Breanna Barbara; she and her music have come along to help lead you through the underworld that is life." - Galore

"While it arises out of tragedy it does so with a gleeful vengeance, and in the case of this track, even a howl." - Interview
WATCH: Breanna Barbara - "Nothin But Your Lovin"

"Brooklyn-based musician Breanna Barbara ain’t just another super cute indie chick. This girl has got pipes, not to mention the unabashed soulfulness of the blues musicians of days past."
BULLETTBreanna Barbara’s 'Mirage Dreams' is streaming now on Consequence of Sound and comes out this Friday July 22nd on No Roads Records.

"These songs have become a collection of inner strengths that I have been carrying around with me as early as 18." shares Breanna, "It wasn't until I met dream producer Andrija Tokic that they were able to come alive in the way I had imagined them. Inspired by everything from howling at the moon to heat strokes in New York City summers to the paradigm shift after a loved one passes away, this album is a culmination of my heart and soul and I am extremely excited to finally release it."

Recorded and produced by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff) at The Bomb Shelter in East Nashville over two weeks in the winter of 2014, the album features Ben Trimble of Fly Golden Eagle (backing vocals, keys); Jem Cohen of The Ettes (backing vocals); Matt Menold (lead guitar, organ), Charles Garmendia (drums), and Eduardo DuQuesne (bass) of Clear Plastic Masks; Jon Etes (upright bass, pedal steel, keys); and David Grant (drums, percussion).
Breanna was born in Edina, Minnesota and raised in Bradenton, Florida. She began writing and performing songs at house shows and bars in St. Augustine, FL, and traveled around the north and southeast before settling in New York City. She has shared bills with Deer Tick, Margo Price, Deap Vally, Yak, and The Mystery Lights, with upcoming concerts opening for Wild Beasts, and Bo Ningen.

Her track "Mirage Dreams" was recently named Interview Magazine's Song Of The Week, and last month BULLETT premiered Barbara's live video for "Nothin But Your Lovin." She was also featured on Galore and Brooklyn Vegan.

MONO ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM REQUIEM FOR HELL

MONO ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM REQUIEM FOR HELL NEW FIVE SONG FULL LENGTH DUE OCTOBER 14, 2016 ON TEMPORARY RESIDENCE LTD LISTEN TO AN ALBUM PREVIEW HERE:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OI51id85jyo  MONO are a band driven by intangible conflicts. Their albums have found inspiration in the inescapable coexistence of love and loss, faith and hopelessness, light and darkness. Fittingly, their new album, Requiem For Hell , incorporates all of those conflicts into the one universal inevitability in life: birth, and death. Requiem For Hell finds MONO returning to longtime friend and collaborator, Steve Albini. After MONO and Albini's band, Shellac, toured Japan together last year, they realized how much they missed the (often wordless) creative dialogue they shared during the making of many of their most memorable albums - beginning with 2004's Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky... and culminating with 2009's Hymn To The Immortal Wind. The rebirth of the Albini collaboration for Requiem For Hell also coincided with the birth of a close friend's first child, whose actual in utero heartbeat serves as the foundation for the aptly named "Ely's Heartbeat." For MONO, it all felt so right, so inevitable. Requiem For Hell is undeniably heavier and scarier than most of MONO's output to this point - hear the dizzying 18-minute title track for example - but it also carries some of their most sublime moments. This dichotomy is how the band's obsession with conflict has manifested itself into one of underground music's simultaneously quietest and loudest catalogs.

James Supercave Announce Sumer Tour Dates; Debut Album Better Strange Out Now On Fairfax Recordings

James Supercave Announce Sumer Tour DatesDebut Album Better Strange Out Now On Fairfax Recordings  photo credit: Delaram Pourábdi "It's hard to do weird-sexy well, but LA psych-pop trio James Supercave have made it their specialty. It's one of the reasons we picked the trio as a Noisey Next select earlier this year” - NOISEY“An excellent album on the way with Better Strange.” - NERDIST"'Burn' is creative and original -- it also demonstrates some serious talent" - Indie Shuffle“The perfect soundtrack to getting strange and making mistakes” - Buzzbands LAWatch: James Supercave tour teaser video via YoutubeWatch: "Burn / No Pressure" via Noisey or YouTubeWatch: "Better Strange" official music video via Nerdist or YouTubeJames Supercave is excited to embark on a summer tour supporting their debut full-length albumBetter Strange out now Fairfaix Records. Better Strange which was co-produced by Kevin Augunas (Cold War Kids, Nick Waterhouse, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros) and the band is available on 2xLP black vinyl, CD, and digitally. Fans can order the album digitally via iTunes  and black vinyl version via  Amazon KCRW's Eric J. Lawrence says, "It [Better Strange] is a perfect album title for the band, as they prove themselves masters of the odd angles and off-kilter pop melodies that are littered throughout their record, turning unlikely musical directions into indie gold." The upcoming tour follows up succesful shows with Wild Belle, Crystal Castles and Dan Deacon. The tour will make stops in San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, San Diego and more. All upcoming shows are listed below.Earlier this year, James Supercave was profiled in  NOISEY'S NEXT  column where the band revealed their new single "Burn" and recently Noisey premiered the official  video for "Burn / No Pressure" . Noisey's Andrea Domanick says "In the five years since the Echo Park psych-pop trio hit the scene, they’ve garnered band-to-watch accolades, local residencies, radio play, and touring and support slots with bands like Warpaint and Future Islands. Fans have been known to do things like knit James Supercave scarves. In 2014, a demo of their song "Burn" made it into rotation at LA's tastemaker radio station KCRW, who stamped it with a coveted “Track of the Day” designation." James Supercave's Joaquin Pastor adds "'Burn' was born from a bass line and wants to suck you in. It's the pulse of a year long mess."Last year, the band along with close friend and up-and-coming auteur James Kid (whom also directed the band’s video for “The Right Thing”) created a short film documenting the making of the album at the legendary Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, Ca. and teases a new song titled, “Just Repeating What's Around Me.” Watch the video  HERE .The band also made waves combining Sophie Koko Gate’s award winning animation video "Half Wet" with their single of the same name, “Better Strange." The video, which premiered via Nerdist, is basically “like 90s cartoons did the same drugs that our music is hooked on. Beautiful, bizarre, hilarious;” states the band.  Scope out the surreal music video  HERE Nerdist stated that based on this first glimpse that there “appears to be an excellent album on the way with Better Strange…” The track cuts the familiar slam and glam of psych-pop with the odd details that continually throw James Supercave into the uncanny valley of the pop genre: the lurching groove of the bass, the relentless loop of the synth, the shape-shifting timbre of the vocal. "You're so much better strange. You're so much better when you make mistakes with me," urges Supercave in a fit against normalcy. "Better Strange" dare the listener to commit to the mistakes they've always wanted to make. James Supercave Tour Dates 07.22: San Francisco, CA @ Rickshaw Stop (tickets)
08.03: Long Beach, CA @ Federal Underground (tickets)
08.09: Portland, OR @ Mississippi Studios (tickets)

The Faint To Perform At The Growlers' Beach Goth V Festival; Fall Tour Dates With Gang Of Four Announced

The Faint To Perform At The Growlers' Beach Goth V Festival
Fall Tour Dates With Gang Of Four & Pictureplane Announced New Single "Young & Realistic" Out Now Stream: “Young & Realistic” via Streaming ServicesThe Faint have announced a performance at The Growlers' Beach Goth V festival taking place on  October 22nd and 23rd at Oak Canyon Park in Orange County, California. The festival will also include sets from Bon Iver, James Blake, Justice, Future Islands, Devendra Banhart, The Drums, Cold Cave, Wild Nothing, Hinds and HEALTH. Advance tickets and the full line up can be found HERE. The festival show is part of the band's North American fall tour with Gang Of Four. The Faint's Todd Fink says, "We are so psyched to play shows with Gang Of Four this fall. They’ve been a long time influence on The Faint. Life is insane." The Faint have just added Brooklyn-based electronic artist Pictureplane, who recently released the critically acclaimed album Technomancer on Anticon, to open all upcoming shows. The Fader says Pictureplane's songs, "Emphasize that feeling of living-in-the-present bliss through a mix of dance-y drum beats, modern EDM synths, and '90s rap undertones—perfect for the club." The upcoming tour will kick off on September 29 in Minneapolis at First Avenue and makes stops in major cities including Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Los Angeles and more. The tour will conclude with a hometown show in Omaha on Halloween at Sokol Auditorium. All shows are listed below. Earlier this summer, the band shared their new single “Young & Realistic” with Stereogum. Todd Fink says, "I believe this one goes in The Faint Danse Party folder. We wrote, recorded, and mixed it ourselves here at our studio in Omaha, Nebraska. Pretty song-y for club music and pretty clubby for indie/punk, this one falls right in the sweet spot. I love that warm bouncy bass synth (it's a CS15 if you must know).” He adds, “This might be a love song. Maybe it’s a respect song.  Those are intertwined concepts I suppose. Without respect, love is a weaker bond.” “Young & Realistic” is available to share on all streaming services“Young & Realistic” is The Faint’s follow up to 2014’s critically acclaimed album Doom Abuse which in many ways, is in parallel with a rebirth of the band itself. The Faint, started in Omaha in the mid-‘90s, have always created against the grain, disinterested in making anything except what their own inspiration drives them to make. Each album since their 1999's Blank-Wave Arcade has shifted and evolved that desire. The musicians themselves are the constant, together embracing a style that is truly unlike every other band out there. The Faint Tour Dates  09.29 - Minneapolis, MN @ First Avenue *

Royal Trux in Columbus

TRUX ROYLIN' DOWN THE ROADO-HI-O again! True to their incinerating, sudden blaze of glory, a golden decade that ended seemingly forever back in the increasingly unmysterious year 2000, Royal Trux have reignited suddenly and without warning, much less reason - although what better reason than to take the money off a queue of the highest bidders out there? It already worked in Los Angeles (well, Santa Ana anyway), NYC and Chicago - and if Austin hadn't been threatened with acts of god (at least in the insurer's eyes), we'd be announcing reunion show number 5 right here!

Is it any REAL surprise that the next town to receive their Royal due is Columbus OH? The Trux were always consonant with high and low culture in equal measure, so that makes Columbus Rock City (because, fuck Detroit!) a natural - and back in the day, shows there were generally laid-back-until-tense (or vice versa) like all perfect rock and roll is and should always be. The occasion? Helter Swelter Fest 2016, at the Ace of Cups on September 24th! See you there - and with any luck, we'll BE you there too! Royal Trux Online:  Drag City- http://www.dragcity.com/artists/royal-trux

photo by Jess KrichelleAblebody is an LA-based duo comprised of identical twins Christoph and Anton Hochheim (members of Pains Of Being Pure At Heart / Depreciation Guild). They've been quietly releasing music under this moniker since 2013, self-releasing an EP and 7" single, crafting remixes and demoing original material as well as a myriad of covers.Drawing from the raw grandeur of the 60's, the melodicism of soft 70s pop and the sophisticated side of romantic 80s synth pop, Ablebody stand suspended between decades; students of the past but far from retro fetishists. Their musical prowess is evident but the songwriting remains tastefully direct at all times, with arrangements that bend and move in surprising ways but tastefully blanket the overarching sentiment of the songs in a way that we rarely hear in this decade. The duo have recently taken their sound from the bedroom to the studio, working with Cole M. Grief-Neill (Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Nite Jewel, Julia Holter, The Samps) and Kenny Gilmore (Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti) to craft songs with a more visceral edge than they've explored in the past. Daniel Rosenbaum (Pomar) and Jordan Sabolick (Mt. Ossa) have joined the duo to help bring the songs to life and add new dimension to the live dynamic.Their debut full length record Adult Contemporaries will be released by Lolipop Records on October 14, 2016Ablebody
