 About the record:

Over fifteen years ago, Jenn Champion (née Ghetto), a founding member of influential Northwest indie rock band Carissa’s Wierd, began writing and recording under the alphabetically-informed alias of S. Hardly Art released her acclaimed record Cool Choices—Champion’s first with a full band, and produced by Chris Walla—in late 2014. Now, in the interest of abandoning their previously un-Googleable status, the four-piece has re-christened themselves as Jenn Champion. According to Champion (singular), “Sometimes you just want to be found.”

The digital-only No One EP is the first release under this new moniker, and heralds an exciting new direction for Champion and crew, focusing on dusky, elastic electronic instrumentation previously only flirted with on Cool Choices standout “Tell Me.”  In addition to the instantly-memorable title track, the No One EP includes six remixes from a diverse array of Northwest producers, artists, and DJs: Glitterbang, Crater, USF, SassyBlack (ex-THEESatisfaction), Breakmaster Cylinder, and Champion’s new side project Malidont.

THE WEDDING PRESENT share multi-media new track 'Sprague' and studio video for 'Bear' + tour dates

THE WEDDING PRESENT
NEW ALBUM ‘GOING, GOING…’ RELEASED 2ND SEPTEMBER ON SCOPITONES
Stream new single ‘Sprague’  HERE  and its accompanying film  HERE
Watch the ‘Bear’ studio video  HERE
[image error]
Available in three audio-visual formats: standard CD + DVD, deluxe CD + DVD in hard-bound ‘book pack’ with extra tracks + lyrics, deluxe double 180g LP + DVD with extra tracks + lyrics
After the announcement of ‘Going Going…’, indie darlings The Wedding Present have shared ‘Sprague’; the instrumental new track and its accompanying short film. On top of this, we also take a look inside Gedge’s studio whilst recording the impressive new single ‘Bear’.
Always challenging and experimental, the idea to release the new project in a multi-media format is something that has been marinating with bandleader David Gedge for some time. As he points out, work began soon after the unveiling of The Wedding Present’s 2012 critically acclaimed album ‘Valentina’. “I’d already decided by then that I didn’t want to make the next release just ‘another album’ and so I came up with the idea of twenty ‘interconnected’ pieces of music. Then, in the summer of 2014 I travelled across the USA with photographer Jessica McMillan and we made some atmospheric short films to accompany the tracks. Since then it’s been a case of progressing through the music, trying all sorts of ideas, seeing how they work set against the visuals.”
Uncharacteristically, the album opens with four hauntingly beautiful instrumental songs, including the cinematic ‘Sprague’ and the absolutely captivating ‘Marblehead’. ‘Going, Going...’ then takes a headlong dash through tracks such as ‘Two Bridges’, ‘Birdsnest’, ‘Kill Devil Hills’ and ‘Broken Bow’... all perfectly executed in classic Wedding Present fashion; a jangle of clanging guitars, a squeal of feedback and a rush of adrenaline.
Few come as close to articulating the trials and pitfalls of a relationship in ways so instantly recognisable to the listener as David Gedge; his lyrics' naturalism and truthfulness accentuated by his earthy accent. With ‘Little Silver’, ‘Bear’, ‘Lead’ and ‘Rachel’ he proves yet again that he is a virtuoso when it comes to the bittersweet love song; his knack for a simple turn of phrase perfectly articulating the banalities and ecstasies of a relationship.
Whilst they are the undoubted masters of frenetic indie-pop, The Wedding Present re-route momentarily on ‘Emporia’ and ‘Wales’ before ultimately immersing us in an epic album finale with ‘Santa Monica’. Throughout this enchanting album ambient soundscapes and orchestral pop arrangements jostle for position with layers of feedback drenched guitars, pummelling drums and a truly massive bass sound as we hear some of the heaviest material that the band have ever recorded.
The films that accompany each track are a mesmerising collection of moving photographs. The rippling water in ‘Marblehead’ delicately draws us into the melody while ‘Two Bridges’ takes us onto a Manhattan street corner and exudes New York City in the summertime. The feeling of a road trip is present throughout as we see the rivers and lakes of the Mid-West and the deserts of the South-West before the album ends in a beautifully fitting way with the sun setting over the Santa Monica mountains.
The Wedding Present’s impact on independent music is infinitely present. Their uncomplicated approach to the disillusionment of love is salient in the sound of many of the subsequent bands of their ilk since the band’s inception and an influence on everyone from British Sea Power to The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart among countless others.

Honeyblood Announce New Album 'Babes Never Die' out 10/28

HONEYBLOOD ANNOUNCE BABES NEVER DIEOUT ON FATCAT RECORDS OCTOBER 28TH, 2016
PREMIERE NEW SINGLE + VIDEO FOR "READY FOR THE MAGIC"

Watch the video for "Ready For The Magic"Listen to "Ready For The Magic" via Spotify
Honeyblood are back in formidable form. Today the Glasgow two-piece - frontwoman Stina Tweeddale and drummer Cat Myers- premiered incendiary new single and video "Ready For Magic", as well as announcing their second album, the emphatically titled Babes Never Die which is out on Fat Cat Records October 28th.
The follow-up to their eponymous debut, Honeyblood arrived in 2014 as a surprise splash, with stellar from New York Times to Pitchfork.'Ready for The Magic' is a remarkable introduction to Honeyblood 2.0. Both one of their most intense and most intensely catchy tracks to date. Its detuned doom riffage and disco-punk rhythms make space for a tornado of a chorus ode to "the explosive nature of infatuation". The video, a collaboration between the band and director Thomas James, is set in post-apocalyptic Scottish countryside, and follows a tribe of young feral girls who've been abandoned and left to fend for themselves in a dystopian world. We won't completely spoil its ending, but safe to say that Stina and Cat meet a grizzly fate.
The leader of the video's feral girl tribe finds herself pride of place as the cover star of the 'Babes Never Die' album, in beautiful photographic artwork shot by German photographer Amira Fritz. "I loved the idea of this feral tribe of young badass girls causing chaos," explains frontwoman Stina Tweeddale. "It's an image that chimes with what the album is all about." Of the album's title she explains: "I guess you could call it a war cry; to have the faith to never let yourself be defeated." Babes Never Die is certainly not a shy motto, and one that's triumphant sentiment rings throughout Honeyblood's exceptional sophomore record. Recorded winter 2016 with acclaimed producer James Dring (Jamie T, Gorillaz) during candle-burning sessions at London's Fish Factory studios, it will be released November 2nd and is available to pre-order now along with the new single. "The title is my own mantra," Stina says. "I think it's something I tell myself every day. Indifference is a plague. Giving up and turning a blind eye will be the end of us. Never before has that been more true."
Babes Never Die is out October 28th on Fat Cat Records.
