WIRE DRILL : LA Festival; 15th Studio Album Silver/Lead Out March 31 via pinkflag

WIRE Add Mikal Cronin & Wand To DRILL : LA Festival A Unique FestivalPhoto Credit: Matias Coral
Stream: “Short Elevated Period” via NPR or Soundcloud
Musical pioneers WIRE will release their 15th studio album Silver/Lead on March 31, the eve of their 40th anniversary.  However this is an album with its sights firmly set on the future. On April 1, 2017, the anniversary of the band’s first gig as the “classic 4 piece” at the Roxy Club. London, WIRE will be giving a headline performance at the Los Angeles edition of the band’s boutique city festival DRILL : LA, a unique festival to mark “40 years of not looking back.” Wire have announced the addition of Mikal Cronin with a string & horn ensemble and Wand to the upcoming DRILL : LA festival taking place March 30 - April 2 at The Echo and Echoplex. Tickets for DRILL : LA are avaialble HERE.DRILL : LA March 30 - April 2 at the Echo & Echoplex, Los Angeles, CAWIREBob Mould * Julia Holter * Mikal Cronin + String & Horn Ensemble

More Special Guests To Be Announced SoonSince 2013, WIRE  have been curating a series of international city festivals with the name DRILL.  The idea being to bring together the best overview of both classic left field artists and new and emerging cutting edge talent. There will be several more DRILL : FESTIVALS taking place this spring, each featuring unique line ups.  Details of the festivals will be announced shortly. Updated info can be found at www.drillfestival.comOn Silver/Lead, Colin Newman and Matt Simms’ guitar work is alternately jagged and luminous, while bassist Graham Lewis’s ear-catching lyrics are vivid yet oblique. Meanwhile, drummer Robert Grey provides a virtual masterclass in percussive minimalism. But it’s how the various instruments mesh together that really counts. And Newman’s production creates a sonic space in which even the smallest gesture is accorded some recognition.Highlights include the optimistic dazzle of “Diamonds In Cups,” with its almost T. Rex-style buzz and chug, and the moody swing of “This Time.” Elsewhere on the musical spectrum, there’s the menacing widescreen grandeur of "Playing Harp For The Fishes" and breakneck-paced guitar pop of "Short Elevated Period."Wire are one of the world’s most ground-breaking bands, their influence acknowledged by bands as diverse as Blur, Sonic Youth, R.E.M. and Savages. But they have never been interested in exploiting past glories. For Wire, there is only ever one possible direction: forwards. So it’s perhaps not surprising that over recent years, they’ve played strings of sold-out shows, achieved career-best record sales, and been cited as a strong influence by yet another generation of bands.Wire’s last three albums garnered nothing but rave reviews. From 2013’s strangely beautifulChange Becomes Us (“It’s fantastic.” – Pitchfork) to the crackling motorik of 2015’s Wire (“It’s all really well turned, potent and crisp.” – The Guardian), and last year’s punchy mini-album Nocturnal Koreans (“It's a cracker and sounds defiantly modern.” – The Quietus). Consequently, although it may be being released on the band’s 40th anniversary, Silver/Lead is an album which has nothing to do with the past and everything to do with the future. Wire Tour Dates 03.28 - Phoenix, AZ @ Crescent Ballroom03.29 - San Diego, CA @ Casbah03.30 - Los Angeles, CA - DRILL : LA @ Echo03.31 - Los Angeles, CA - DRILL : LA @ Echo/Echoplex04.01 - Los Angeles, CA - DRILL : LA @ Echo/Echoplex04.03 - San Francisco, CA @ Slims04.05 - Portland, OR @ Dantes04.07 - Vancouver, BC @ Imperial04.08 - Seattle, WA @ Crocodile

SOVIET SOVIET tour cancelled: band deported

SOVIET SOVIET

Official Statement:We arrived in Seattle on the afternoon of March 8.
We made our way to passport control with our ESTA, a letter from our American label (in which the label owner declared we would be performing a series of concerts for promotional purposes only and that we would in no way be receiving any form of payment for those shows) and a written invitation on the part of SxSw in hand. The first of us to get through passport control was Ale (our drummer), who disclosed the promotional purposes of our trip to the police officer.
Ale (our guitarist) and Andrea who both explained the exact same thing were held up and escorted to another office. Subsequently, we were all called back and interrogated individually, in three different rooms. We were able to have the agents speak directly to the owner of our American label without any success, however. After almost 4 hours of questions they told us their verdict. They had decided to deport us back to Italy and deny us entry into the United States. They declared us illegal immigrants even if our intention was by no means to look for work in the United States nor never go back to Italy. We accepted this situation even if we tried to no end to explain the situation and that we were not receiving any form of payment, but there was simply no way of convincing the officials we spoke to. From that moment onwards, we became three illegal immigrants and were treated like criminals.
This is what happened this past Wednesday and Thursday. We would like to thank the people who supported and helped us throughout this ordeal, including Alessio Antoci, Owen Murphy and John Richards.
We would like to apologize to our fans, the owners of the venues, KEXP radio and the SxSw festival.
We would also like to apologize for having had to cancel our American tour and hope to go back soon.
Soviet Soviet.

Blonde Redhead releases new "3 O'Clock" EP, shares "Golden Light" video via CoS VIDEO: "Golden Light" (Dir. by Virgilio Villoresi) -

Spotify  Not many bands make it through extended careers with constant evolution and experimentation and a general willingness to change things up. Blonde Redhead deserves a place in this category. Over the course of nearly 25 years, the acclaimed New York-based trio went from the noise rock of the early years to the refined dream pop of Misery Is A Butterfly, before reaching the sensual electronic textures of the studio album, Barragán which was released in 2014. Now it's time to make a step forward once again, or a sidestep, because, despite the variety of styles, the band has always been able to keep a personality and a unique identity that's easily recognizable. Fresh from the box set Masculin Féminin(September 2016) and the remix "Freedom of Expression on Barragan Hard" (March 2016) releases, Japanese Kazu Makino and twin Italian-Americans Amedeo and Simone Pace return with a new EP 3 O'Clock, out today on the band's own label Asa Wa Kuru Records. Four songs, two of them sung by charming Kazu while the other two by guitarist and second voice of the band, Amedeo, which still mark once again the willingness to broaden their musical horizons. Blonde Redhead

Alison and Will spent 10 days in Dallas with John Congleton, Grammy-winning producer of St. Vincent, John Grant and Wild Beasts. In London they teamed up with electronic composer Bobby Krlic, aka The Haxan Cloak. Brian Eno collaborator Leo Abrahams added abstract guitar textures. The album was mixed by David Wrench (The xx, fka Twigs, Caribou).

KASEY CHAMBERS EMBARKS ON
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR MARCH 9
U.S. RELEASE OF NEW ALBUM DRAGONFLY THIS SPRING DEBUTS AT #1 ON AUSTRALIA’S
ARIA ALBUM CHART ACROSS ALL GENRES
[image error] “…songwriting excellence and passion in performance that is so hard to find these days, except, perhaps…by her very few peers in this field, including Gillian Welch, Patty Griffin and, of course, the great Lucinda Williams.”—Huffington Post “A towering songbook, wordy and resigned, Dragonfly is the opus of Australia’s foremost progenitor of, and innovator in, the country-roots fold. It’s the masterwork
of a heart laid bare in song.”— Rolling Stone Australia  “…an epic tale.”— Melbourne Herald Sun  This March, Australian singer-songwriter Kasey Chambers embarks on the U.S. leg of her international tour including stops in Nashville, New York, Dallas, Chicago, Houston and more. See below for the full U.S. tour itinerary. These shows are in support of her eleventh studio album Dragonfly , which debuted in Australia at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart as well as being #1 on the ARIA Top 50 digital albums, Top 40 Country Albums, Top 20 Australian Artist Albums and Top 20 Australian Artist Country Albums. The album’s official U.S. release is set for later this spring.Dragonfly, her acclaimed double album and follow up to 2014’s Bittersweet, features special guestsKeith Urban, Ed Sheeran, Paul Kelly, Grizzlee Train, Harry Hookey, Vika and Linda Bull, and Foy Vance. The first disc of Dragonfly was produced by ARIA Hall of Famer Paul Kelly at The Sing Sing Sessions, while the second was produced by Chambers’ brother Nash Chambers at The Foggy Mountain Sessions. Of the new recording, Chambers reflects, “Working with Paul Kelly as my producer on one side of the double album Dragonfly was a dream come true. Paul brought out a whole new side of me, but then I also got to enjoy the comforts of recording with the person who knows and has shaped my original sound better than anyone, my brother Nash, along with my live touring band who have become a huge part on my sound. This double album shows who I am as much as any piece of work I have ever done.”Acclaimed artist David Bromley created a portrait of Chambers for the album’s cover art. He explains, “In painting Kasey I first endeavored to find her, instead I found many different dimensions and aspects. This portrait combines them all because she is at once uncomplicated and also a mysterious individual—this combination is very alluring.”Chambers has received 11 ARIA Awards (Australia’s Grammy equivalent), 22 CMAA Golden Guitar Awards, 2 Americana Music Award Nominations and 10 APRA Awards to her name. She also holds the record for the most decorated solo APRA Songwriter in Australia (APRA is Australia’s ASCAP/BMI equivalent).Chambers has previously topped the ARIA Albums Chart with Barricades & Brickwalls (2002), Wayward Angel (2004), Carnival (2006) and Rattlin’ Bones, her 2008 collaboration with Shane Nicholson. KASEY CHAMBERS TOUR DATESMarch 9—Berkeley, CA—Freight & Salvage
