"We walked down streets and crammed onto trains, our faces masks of fear. Unsure how to react, we, collectively, did not react. We grieved for a country and an ideal we never thought would die. We grieved for a loss of certainty. We argued about what we thought would happen. We preached understanding. We advocated for anger. Some people said that we’d at least get some incredible art, other people said that was a small view of a world we were quickly realizing we’d misunderstood. Everyone was right. Everyone was wrong. Art made in precarious times matters as much as we let it matter. But what are we looking for from the art we enjoy? Escapism? A reckoning with harsh reality? A temporary shared hallucination? Music can heal because it presents the pain of being human as universal.Love is Love was written and recorded in the two months immediately following the election, but it’s not a record borne entirely of angry, knee-jerk reaction to what America is becoming. Instead, it’s a meditation on love, and on what life means now. Taking cues from last year’s City Sun Eater in the River of Light, it feels very much like a record made from living, shoulder to shoulder, in a major city: weaving psychedelic swirls of guitar between languid horns reminiscent of the best Ethiopian jazz—Love is Love is a distinctly New York record. It is a document of protest in uncertain times and an open-hearted rejection of cynicism in favor of emotional honesty. It is bright, and then, unexpectedly, a little dark sometimes too. There will be parts of life where we will watch as events unfold and we will feel helpless. We will not be sure of the future. On good days, we’ll have each other. On the bad ones, we’ll turn to the art that helps us feel something. Love is Love is a document of the new world we live in, proof that light can come from despair and hope is still possible. We just need a little help remembering it exists." - Sam Hockley-Smith

Craig Finn premieres new video for "God In Chicago" on Nowness
CRAIG FINN PREMIERES "STUNNING" NEW VIDEO FOR"GOD IN CHICAGO" ON
NOWNESS
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR SUPPORTING JAPANDROIDS UNDERWAY NOW NEW ALBUM, WE ALL WANT THE SAME THINGS,ARRIVES EVERYWHERE ON FRIDAY, MARCH 24
ALBUM AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER NOW
(NEW YORK, NY) Today, Nowness shares a strikingly beautiful music video for Craig Finn's "God In Chicago," the next single off his forthcoming solo album WE ALL WANT THE SAME THINGS out March 24 on Partisan Records. Directed by Kris Merc, the video follows the fleeting journey of two young lovers finding beauty in the unremarkable. It's relatable, poignant and raw. "I was already in love with the song and I was mostly struck by the words and their pacing," says Merc. "The spoken word quality of the narrative had a somber, melancholic tone that left me feeling a bit reflective about the fleeting moments we all face in life. We decided the video should tell a story about the meandering nature of youth. From there, we created a narrative that follows the fleeting journey of two young characters who find beauty in their bleak circumstances, carving out hope in their own way while knowing their time together is limited. It's a meditation on the idea of memories, nostalgia, and the feeling of being caught up in a raw moment. All this happens in a landscape reflecting contemporary America. In this search for meaning, you can feel the raw emotion of something lost and something gained. There is a lot of tension, but I think the problems we all face are the same. 'We all want the same things' - the camera is constantly seeking solace; It is seeking out a truth not easily found." About the song, Finn says:"I've done a lot of songs that have been called 'talky,' but this is the furthest I've gone towards spoken word. It's a story about a guy and a girl pushed together to try to fix a problem. In doing so, they push into unchartered territory for both of them. Going to a bigger city without supervision for the first time is a huge moment, no matter how you get there. I was trying to capture that. Also, I wanted to show how easily it is sometimes to take a break, if briefly, from our regular lives. Annie Nero has a lot of vocals I love on this record but this one might be my favorite."

Finn's WE ALL WANT THE SAME THINGS is his eagerly awaited third album and arrives via Partisan on Friday, March 24. It's available for pre-order now at all leading DSPs. All pre-orders receive an instant download of the album's first single, "Preludes," that premiered exclusively via NPR Music. The album is also available via Pledge Music with exclusive merch. Anyone who pre-orders through Pledge will receive an exclusive four-digital track EP. Finn and his band The Uptown Controllers are currently on a North America tour supporting Japandroids. The remaining dates are listed below. For complete details and regularly updated tour information, please visit www.craigfinn.net/tour.

WE ALL WANT THE SAME THINGS sees Finn exploring themes of love and partnership in the modern world, as ever expressed via finely etched character studies, black humor, and smartly arranged rock 'n' roll. Largely recorded last spring at The Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, NY with frequent collaborator Josh Kaufman producing and Dan Goodwin engineering and mixing, the album features musical contributions from drummer Joe Russo, keyboardist Sam Kassirer, Rainer Maria vocalist Caithlin De Marrais, singer/songwriter Annie Nero, horn master Stuart Bogie, Jon Shaw, Jordan McLean, Matt Barrick and Finn's longtime partner in The Hold Steady, guitarist Tad Kubler. "We named this collection WE ALL WANT THE SAME THINGS after a line in 'God in Chicago,'" Finn says. "It seems like a bit of dark humor in these turbulent political times, but it also rings true: no matter our differences we all have some very basic wants and needs that line up with each other. The characters in these songs are normal people trying to help themselves, trying to move forward, and in some cases trying just to survive. All the while they are negotiating what space the others in their lives can occupy." # # # CRAIG FINN ON TOUR 2017 MARCH9 - Hollywood, CA - Fonda Theatre #10 - Hollywood, CA - Fonda Theatre #11 - San Diego, CA - Music Box #13 - Santa Ana, CA - The Observatory #14 - San Francisco, CA - The Fillmore #17 - Portland, OR - Revolution Hall #18 - Seattle, WA - Neptune Theatre #20 - Vancouver, BC - Commodore Ballroom # APRIL4 - New York, NY - City Winery

"Dylan Ryan is a drummer adept at combining his jazz skills with adventurous rock, resulting in music that maintains the cerebral and visceral qualities of both." -- JazzTimes
"With an ass-kicking palate of sonic texture, Ryan, Young and bassist Devin Hoff offer something in betweenJohn Zorn's raucous free-jazz and the romantic stylings of Black Sabbath." -- L.A. Weekly
Los Angeles psychedelic power trio Sand premiere the video for their new single "Haggard Hawk" today via Impose Magazine. The 3-D animated clip was directed by Joe Presser (Netflix, CNNmotion graphics designer) and available to watch & share HERE . (Direct YouTube.)
Sand hit the road later this week for shows supporting Minus The Bear. Please see dates below.
Drummer/singer Dylan Ryan formed Sand in 2012 after writing a batch of songs between tours withCursive and Rainbow Arabia. He recruited bassist Devin Hoff (Julia Holter, Cibo Matto) and Tim Young (Reggie Watts' Late Late Show band) to fill out the group. What began as a dynamic fusion unit has become a heavy psychedelic power trio lined with nods to porto-metal. They have have two releases on progressive music label Cuneiform Records and are currently plnning the release of another recording in 2017.
Regarding the video, director Joe Presser says, "The song has a bouncy sort of feel with odd time signatures, so I made all the cameras as close to hand-held as I could and angled them to parallel that rhythmic angularity. Cel-shaded in highly contrasted 3-D animation, and referencing 70s B-movie tones, warriors swing skip-its atop four-horned, overgrown wildebeests like something out of the No Fear folders in your five-star binder. A shaman shakes a Polaroid and a Stretch-Armstrong/Barbie effigy in preparation for a ritual reminiscent of a vintage Nickelodean sliming."

Whilst a strong grasp remains on their classic songwriting capabilities, another is held for experimentation and sonic discovery. Produced by BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Francis & The Lights, Low), landmark marks a true coming of age for the band, exploring an intimate world of universal concepts; love and loss, family and friendship, hope and self-doubt, amongst many others. A milestone at the time in life of which certain questions are answered, but so many more are asked.

IMELDA MAY’S “BLACK TEARS” VIDEO PREMIERES AT THE FOUR OH FIVE

NEW RECORD LIFE, LOVE, FLESH, BLOOD OUT APRIL 7 VIA VERVE RECORDS
MAY’S FIRST NEW FULL-LENGTH ALBUM IN THREE YEARS PRODUCED BY T BONE BURNETT
“I’ve never met anyone quite like Imelda May. She is full of life…I [am] inspired by her honesty and her generosity, and I continue to be intrigued.” —T Bone Burnett
“I love the girl she used to be but I think I love even more the woman she’s become. Still mischievous and playful, still a siren, but there’s an ache in her voice now that has me with a glass at my ear to the wall of her world where trouble has entered the room. There’s an erotic power here that’s not just feminine power. She makes truth telling an invitation to intimacy.” —Bono“May delivers her songs of heartbreak, desire, loss and liberation as if her life depends upon it.” —Daily Telegraph
“[May] has poured her heart and soul into her new album.” —Evening StandardCritically acclaimed Irish singer Imelda May is celebrating her upcoming fifth full-length record, Life, Love, Flesh, Blood , with the premiere of the video for the track “Black Tears” at The Four Oh Five; watch/share the video HERE . The site calls the live performance “poignant [and] atmospheric.”
The album, May’s first new music in three years, is due April 7 via Verve Records. The record is receiving early rave reviews in the U.K. from the Evening Standard , The Mirror , the Daily Telegraph and more. Of the new video, May explains, “I’ve recorded in Maida Vale a few times and always loved the atmosphere, the history in the walls and the almost industrial look of it…I asked for simple lighting, good sound and not much else. I was a little nervous with the thoughts of it but as soon as [we] started I was immersed in the music and reliving every moment that I wrote about.”
Additionally, W Magazine recently premiered the video for the album’s first single, “Call Me,” hailing the track as a “sweet, spare lament,” while the Daily Mail called it “stylish and extremely moving.” Watch/share the video HERE . May also recently performed “Black Tears” on “Jools Holland’s Annual Hootenanny” on New Year’s Eve, which can be viewed/shared HERE . May’s performance was the most-watched segment of the evening with 300,000 + YouTube views to date, plus it is the second most viewed video on the BBC Music YouTube Channel since October.
Produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett, the new album marks a new direction for May who recently ended her marriage of eighteen years, making Life, Love, Flesh, Blood her most autobiographical record to date. The album features contributions from guitar hero Jeff Beck and piano maestro Jools Holland, as well as an accomplished group of backing musicians including the core trio of guitarist Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello), drummer Jay Bellerose (Elton John & Leon Russell, Ray Lamontagne) and bassist Zach Dawes (The Last Shadow Puppets, Mini Mansions), the same band that recorded Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ Raising Sand.
Her previous records have seen success both in the U.S. as well as in Europe. The Los Angeles Times commented on her previous work, “Ireland-born Imelda May’s career is fostered by paying homage to legends like Buddy Holly and Johnny Cash and, more importantly, furthering rockabilly’s cross-pollination into New Orleans jazz, delta blues and amp-splitting punk aggression.” May’s 2010 album Mayhemwent Platinum in Ireland and Gold in the U.K., along with numerous TV performances on “Later…With Jools Holland,” “Conan,” and an impressive four performances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” to name a few.
She performed "Jools Holland’s Annual Hootenanny” on New Years Eve, her piece on You Tube is the most watched segment at 300,000+ views and the second most viewed performance on BBC Music YouTube since October.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILjkdZloLUM&feature=youtu.be

Barry Adamson Announces New 6 Track EP 'LOVE SICK DICK' Out April 14th / Watch Video For 'They Walk Among Us' On Dangerous Minds
BARRY ADAMSONNEW SIX TRACK SPECIAL EPLOVE SICK DICKOUT APRIL 14TH
Pre-order
Watch video for 'They Walk Among Us' on Dangerous Minds
Mercury Prize-nominated Barry Adamson has announced details of a brand new six track special EP,
LOVE SICK DICK
, available on vinyl, CD and download on April 14th. The EP features ‘Sweet Misery’, which premiered on Mark Radcliffe’s 6Music show in the UK and on Henry Rollins’ KCRW show in the US and the video for 'They Walk Among Us', was recently previewed on Dangerous Minds. LOVE SICK DICK has the superb combination of the classic Adamson we've all come to revel in plus some fresh new twists, as he takes us on a journey and probes the inner workings of one lovelorn guy in all of his downhearted, paranoiac, grieving, hapless and helpless self! From the pulsating futuristic blues of ‘Sweet Misery’ where Adamson circles his condition, knowing there isn't any other place to go, to the vampiric, prowling roam of ‘They Walk Among Us’, where parasites joylessly feed off each other and dance macabre. Throughout the recording, Adamson says it all with a vocal that is on point and as strong as it has ever been. The other tracks offer no less than sheer forensic testimony to the central theme and condition he is examining. ‘One Hot Mess’ unashamedly dances forcefully into an intended's ego to tear it apart and claim it, with a confessional punchy bass and thematic disco swagger. 'I Got Clothes’ is a manic poem that begs mentor Nina Simone for guidance as it rips and spits out the opening; bluesy and dark and fat at the low end, running and chasing down the object of the character's desire. ‘People Like Us’ acts as a contemporary pit stop, like Adamson has turned on a nineties radio station while he fills up on fuel and considers the situation at hand before driving off into the distance. ‘On Golden Square’ is where Adamson digs into his soul to find nothing but a dull, pathetic ache, laid bare by a promise that he can never deliver, his endless optimism (and oddly, his mother's!) convincing us and himself that what is 'all right' is also 'so right' as synths swirl around and tease an old school fifties style riff. Just like the singular central character in Adamson's new record, Barry recorded the whole project solo, living up to his multi-instrumentalist hallmark by programming, playing live and sampling and stealing every note you hear on each track, exploring some really interesting techniques in doing so and using modern technology to make an old wail. To quote Adamson: 'The blues is the blues and if the heart aches then that's the sound that will come out, whether you are playing guitar, a synth, a piano or performing futuristic guitar solos on your iPhone!' Also announcing a solo tour in April, Adamson says;“I'm launching myself from the studio into a unique solo show. Some history: Barry Adamson has been creating all of his life. Perhaps his greatest creation is himself as a multi-disciplined artist. The self-taught musician rose to prominence as the bass player in Magazine and toured extensively. His establishment as a solo artist came after a three year stint with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and heralded the release of his seminal first solo album, ‘Moss Side Story’. Critically acclaimed, it raised Adamson’s name as a composer of diverse complexity; able to tell a story with music, where the images were those supplanted in the minds of the listeners. Offers quickly followed and saw Adamson work with some of the film industry’s most intriguing mavericks including Derek Jarman, David Lynch, Oliver Stone and Danny Boyle. Having released nine studio albums, including the 1992 Mercury Music Prize nominated ‘Soul Murder’, Adamson has continued to tour globally with his talents being in as much demand by new generations of artists, as he was after his first solo release. He is constantly sought across all art forms for commentary and contribution. His music being both the platform and background for documentaries, TV series, adverts, computer games and even an Olivier Award winning ballet performance by Sylvie Guillem and the Ballet Boyz. It was always a logical progression for Adamson to move behind the camera and once again his brooding film noir style and dark comedy has seen him write, direct and score a number of short films. His latest offering, ‘The Swing The Hole and The Lie’, being shown at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Rising phoenix like from the flames of his previous work, Adamson continues to push himself and blur the lines of film, music and art.Earlier this year he returned to the studio to begin recording a soon to be released new solo album, which shows him embracing all of his diverse influences into a more commercial undertaking. Musician, composer, writer, photographer, filmmaker. Barry Adamson is not a man to take it easy. www.barryadamson.com www.twitter.com/adamsonbarrywww.facebook.com/adamsonbarrywww.instagram.com/adamsonbarry/

Always outspoken, controversial and sincere, JOHN LYDON, formerly Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols and then lead singer in Public Image Ltd (PiL), John Lydon has secured a prime position as one of the most recognizable icons in the annals of music history. As Johnny Rotten, he was the lead singer of the Sex Pistols--the world's most notorious band--who shot to fame in the mid-1970s with singles such as 'Anarchy in the UK' and 'God Save the Queen.' So revolutionary was his influence, he was even discussed in the Houses of Parliament, under the Traitors and Treasons Act, which still carries the death penalty. Via his music and invective, he spearheaded a generation of young people across the world who were clamoring for change--and found it in the style and attitude of this most unlikely figurehead. With his next band, Public Image Ltd (PiL), Lydon expressed an equally urgent impulse in his make-up--the constant need to reinvent himself, to keep moving. From their beginnings in 1978, he set the groundbreaking template for a band that continues to challenge and thrive in the 2010s. He also found time to collaborate on new dance records with the likes of Afrika Bambaataa and Leftfield. From his beginnings as a sickly child of immigrant Irish parents who grew up in post-war London, to his present status as a vibrant, alternative national hero, Lydon has remained a compelling and dynamic figure--both as a musician, and, thanks to his outspoken, controversial, yet always heartfelt and honest statements, as a cultural commentator. BASH & POP WEST COAST TOUR COMES TO THE TROUBADOUR TONIGHT SXSW INFO FORTHCOMING ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN ALBUM OUT NOW ON FAT POSSUM RECORDS AVAILABLE ON ALL DIGITAL PLATFORMS VISIT THE PLEDGE MUSIC STORE FOR ALBUMS PLUS EXCLUSIVES
Photo: Vince DeSantiago BASH & POP'S Anything Could Happen, the long-awaited follow-up to the band’s 1993 debut album, Friday Night Is Killing Me, is out now via Fat Possum Records and has been receiving praise across the board, including in depth interviews withBandcamp, Esquire, Rolling Stone and New York Observer, among others. In addition to the new album, the first ever vinyl pressing of Friday Night... is available via Sire/Reprise. The tour's first leg in January was a huge success, selling out in every town, and resumed for a run of West Coast shows that began last month in Seattle. These dates also include the Neon Reverb and Viva PHX festivals, as well as SXSW (info forthcoming) Tommy is joined on the road by a few of his friends who helped make much of the new BASH & POP record – lead guitarist Steve “The Sleeve” Selvidge (The Hold Steady), Joe “The Kid” Sirois (Mighty Mighty BossTones) on drums and Justin “Carl” Perkins (Screeching Weasel) on bass guitar. The band recently performed on
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert
and things got a little out of hand when the band played past their scheduled time, as you can
see here
. Both albums are available via BASH & POP’s Pledge Music campaign, which can be visited here. In addition to ordering tickets for shows and picking up the new music, fans can Pledge towards unforgettable experiences with Tommy and the band (Tommy officiates your wedding, “Billiards w/ BASH & POP”, Full Band Kegger in Your Basement) as well as unique memorabilia such as Tommy’s old bass guitars, both smashed AND fully intact! “Stinson has a firm grasp on what he’s after and achieves it with this remarkably loose yet focused sophomore release. Hopefully we won’t have to wait another 25 years for the next one.” American Songwriter “Anything Could Happen is an album of upbeat songs about feeling down and lucid observations about getting fucked up, split evenly between ragged mid-tempo struts and countrified, come-down laments. …Stinson’s unlikely journey from drunk-punk underdog to arena-rock ringer has shown, anything can indeed happen.” Pitchfork “…a terrific rock ‘n’ roll record -- a true rarity these days.” Lincoln Journal Star "The songs really did fit together seamlessly. “This has been a great show. It’s good to come home.” He could have meant Minneapolis or Bash & Pop as "home," but clearly there was a familiarity to both that made Thursday's show a triumphant one." Minneapolis Star Tribune (live review) "BASH & POP undeniably rock their return." Minneapolis City Pages (live review)"Bash & Pop’s bar-soaked brand of power-pop sounds as good in 2017 as it did where Stinson last left it on 1993’s FridayNight Is Killing Me, making for a strong start to the new year for fans of no-frills rock ’n’ roll.” AV Club “…”Rocks” picks right back up where the first LP left off (a good thing).” Brooklyn Vegan “On The Rocks,” an old-school rave-up of a guitar-rocker made with considerably more piss and/or vinegar than we could reasonably expect from someone who’s been in the game as long as Stinson.” Stereogum BASH & POP LIVE SHOWS:

"That kind of experience is one in a million, but then again so is her smoky quartz voice"
- V Magazine
"This singer-songwriter is undeniably the product of steamy Southern summers, the kind where the air’s so sultry that there’s nothing to do but crank up the amps and drown your sorrows in a pool of sweat." - Consequence of Sound
"Brooklyn-based musician Breanna Barbara ain’t just another super cute indie chick. This girl has got pipes, not to mention the unabashed soulfulness of the blues musicians of days past."
- BULLETTBreanna Barbara recently shared a cover of Melanie Safka's "Some Say (I Got Devil)" via BrooklynVegan. She will hit the road next month en route to Austin for SXSW, kicking off at Knitting Factory on March 9th (with Blank Spaces, Winstons, and Weekender).
"If you dig Alabama Shakes, there’s a good chance you’ll dig this too," said Brooklyn Vegan about Breanna Barbara, and for good reasons, her new album 'Mirage Dreams' was recorded and produced by their collaborator Andrija Tokic, who also worked with Hurray For The Riff Raff. "It’s swaggering, smoky blues rock, with fuzzed-out riffs, organs, and Breanna’s attitude-fueled voice leading the way," they also praised.
A southern occultist juxtaposed in the middle of New York City, Breanna Barbara was born in Edina, Minnesota and raised in Bradenton, Florida. She began writing and performing songs at house shows and bars in St. Augustine, FL, and traveled around the north and southeast before settling in NYC. She performed at Modern Sky Helsinki & NYC Festival, Hudson River Stage (NYC), SXSW and has shared bills with Deer Tick, Margo Price, Boss Hog, Tess Parks, Wild Beasts, Deap Vally, Yak, Bo Ningen, and The Mystery Lights.
In 2017, Breanna will drive down to SXSW, and then fly off to Europe for a summer tour, including dates at Ostara Festival (FR), Outcider Festival (UK), and in Scandanavia.
