The auteur of Middle Children is Patrick Jennings, who writes, arranges, and records the band from his home in Bloomington, IN.  His music became known to most initially through his band Hot New Mexicans, and later Purple 7.  Jennings left Purple 7, a multi-songwriter group, to play music with childhood friend, Ginger Alford, formerly of the band Good Luck. The team enlisted a handful of musicians to make "Earth Angel," include Kyle Houpt, Christopher Butcher, and Matt Tobey.
"Earth Angel" remains sparse and economical, despite additions of multiple guitars, piano, synth, or upright bass. Jennings's voice is given plenty of space, allowing the listener to catch the many nuances in his delivery, how each syllable seems to emote, quickly shifting from vulnerable to confident, a whisper to a shout.  He brings intensity to otherwise melody-driven songs, catching you off guard sometimes with a line like "shit gets real faster than your ass / goddam laugh while it lasts."  Such seeming non-sequiturs pop out among words that often look inward.  In the lyrics you'll find loneliness yet love for others, some self-defeat yet tenacity in the face of insignificance.  "The sky can only spit on you / you speck." An image of Jennings as the songwriter emerges - a hermit of sorts whose focus and dedication brings others warmly into the fold.  Together they bring these songs to life, lest Jennings forever be "echoing in [his] shell"

Cold War Kids will celebrate the release of LA Divine - their sixth album and first for Capitol Records - with a performance and signing at Fingerprints Music in Long Beach, CA (April 8).Fans can sign up to attend the Fingerprints event by pre-ordering the album at the store where they will receive a limited edition poster with purchase. The band kicks off a North American headline tour tonight at the Okeechobee Festival in Florida. Cold War Kids will also join Young The Giant on the "Home of the Strange Tour," beginning August 2nd in Louisville, KY. The run will include a performance at Central Park SummerStage and continue on through the end of September. Tickets for all shows are available at  coldwarkids.com .  See below for itinerary. LA Divine, Cold War Kids' most expansive and ambitious effort so far, pays tribute to Los Angeles in all its strange glory, embodying the Long Beach-bred band's endless fascination with their adopted hometown. "In many ways, LA is the least divine city, the most hedonistic and irreverent and disconnected from history," says Willett. "LA's so massive, I feel like I'm always finding something new in it," adds bassist Matt Maust. "It's an incredibly weird place, and I'm happy to have made an album that totally honors that weirdness." Coming on the heels of 2014's Hold My Home - which featured the chart-topping, Gold-certified single "First" - the band felt emboldened to bring a more deliberate, purposeful spirit to their music than ever before. Produced by their repeat collaborator Lars Stalfors (Health, Local Natives), LA Divine opens with lead single "Love Is Mystical": a soulful, sweeping anthem about seeking transcendence and greater depth in love.  Praised by NME for taking Cold War Kids' "rousing and soulful anthemics to new heights," "Love is Mystical" held the No. 1 spot for Most Increased Plays at AAA radio for two consecutive weeks and is already in the Top 5 of the Alt 18 Countdown. The single already has more than two million streams on Spotify globally and jumped into both Spotify's U.S. and Global Viral charts . Watch the accompanying "Love is Mystical" video  HERE  and a  behind-the-scenes look  at the making of the video.  LA Divine also features the tracks, "Wilshire Protest" which contemplates LA's culture of isolation while the hazy and distorted "LA River" captures a dreamlike desperation. British singer/songwriter Bishop Briggs lends her formidable vocals to the stomping, gospel-infused"So Tied Up," which shines a light on everyday struggle, but burns with the promise of hope.LA Divine merges artful, hook-minded production with Cold War Kids' classic post-punk grit. And in his lyrics, Willett offers both raw vulnerability and layered complexity, bringing his heart-on-sleeve sensibilities to songs exploring long-lasting love. Cold War Kids are Nathan WillettMatt MaustJoe PlummerMatthew Schwartz, andDavid Quon. Formed in 2004 in Fullerton, CA, the band has sold more than 800,000 adjusted albums, over two million singles, and racked up nearly 200 million streams to date.     LA Divine  - Track ListingLove is MysticalCan We Hang On?So Tied UpRestlessLa RiverNo Reason To RunOpen Up to The HeavensInvincible 1Wilshire ProtestLuck DownOrdinary IdolsCameras Always ONPart of the NightFree to BreatheCOLD WAR KIDS TOUR DATES:^ with Middle Kids* with Young The Giant 3/03     Okeechobee, FL         Okeechobee Festival3/04     Columbia, SC              Music Farm ^3/05     Charlotte, NC             Fillmore ^3/06     Saxapahaw, NC          Haw River Ballroom ^3/07     Atlanta, GA                 Tabernacle ^3/10     Baton Rouge, LA        Varsity Theatre ^3/11     Fayetteville, AR          George's Majestic Lounge ^3/12     Omaha, NE                 Sokol Auditorium ^3/14     Madison, WI               Majestic ^3/15     Minneapolis, MN       First Avenue3/17     Columbia, MO            Blue Note3/18     Chicago, IL                  Riviera Theatre ^3/19     Indianapolis, IN          Egyptian ^3/21     Detroit, MI                  St. Andrews Hall ^3/22     Toronto, ON                Danforth Music Hall ^3/23     Pittsburgh, PA             Stage AE ^3/24     Covington, KY             Madison Theater ^3/25     Columbus, OH             CD102.6 Day at Express Live4/1-2    Houston, TX                Houston Whatever Fest 6/09     Manchester, TN          Bonnaroo Music Festival 8/02     Louisville, KY               Palace Theatre *8/05     Kansas City, MO         Starlight Theatre *8/11     Seattle, WA                 WaMu Theater @ Qwest Field *8/12     Vancouver, BC             SeaWheeze Sunset Festival *8/15     Morrison, CO              Red Rocks Amphitheater *8/17     Albuquerque, NM      Villa Hispana @ EXPO New Mexico *8/18     Las Vegas, NV             The Pearl *8/19     Reno, NV                     Grand Theatre at The Grand Sierra Resort *8/20     Eugene, OR                 Cuthbert Amphitheatre *8/24     San Diego, CA             CalCoast Credit Union Open Air Theatre *8/25     Santa Barbara, CA      Santa Barbara Bowl *9/13     New York, NY              Central Park SummerStage *9/14     Boston, MA                 Blue Hills Bank Pavilion *9/15     Philadelphia, PA         Festival Pier at Penn's Landing *9/16     Columbia, MD            Merriweather Post Pavilion *9/19     Charlottesville, VA     Sprint Pavilion *9/26     Birmingham, AL         BJCC Concert Hall *9/28     Oklahoma City, OK    The Criterion * Download Hi-Res  Photo Credit: Dan Monick Website /Facebook / Twitter / Instagram

Adia Victoria releases "How It Feels" EP featuring 4 tracks

ADIA VICTORIA RELEASES NEW EP HOW IT FEELS
THREE COVERS + ONE ORIGINAL: ALL SUNG IN FRENCH
European Dates This Spring + Forecastle Festival In July

This month sees Adia Victoria embarking on a short tour of Europe that includes three dates in France.  In advance of the shows she has released a new EP, How It Feels, that features four tracks - three covers and one original - all sung in French.
1. "Laissez Tomber Les Filles" (written by Serge Gainsbourg, popularized by France Gall)2. "Ça a Raté" (Francoise Hardy)3. "Parlez Moi De Lui (Francoise Hardy)4. "You Know How It Feels" (Adia Victoria)
LISTEN TO HOW IT FEELS
Francoise Hardy, France Gall, Serge Gainsbourg. The mention of these names evoke memories and images of a playful indulgence, purely French in its origin, that would catch on the world over. The Yé-Yé years were infectious and pop culture distilled into its perfect form.
Adia notes, "I wanted this EP to take on a more eerie feel. Instead of the imagined dream pop girl wishing for her man to come home I reimagined the lyrics as sung by a lover scorned but still love sick and obsessed. I wanted to keep the timeless feel of these songs while breathing into them a bit of modernity; sharpen the edges a bit. What if 'Parlez Moi de Lui' were more of a hazey, trip out love letter from a woman still haunted by lost love. What if her in deranged mind her man still danced in and out of sight, just out of touch? I wanted to inject 'Laissez Tomber Les Filles' with a bit of the anger and danger I felt as a new political era descended on our country. This session would prove to be therapeutic in channeling my frustration with the current political landscape into powerful songs sung by iconic, emotional women. This EP was a way express all these feelings in a tangible way. There is so much emotionality to women that is often policed. This project gave me the chance to shake off those restrictions, free myself from my own mother tongue and speak in universal themes that flow beyond the borders of language."
Aida's tour kicks off March 9 in Amines, France and concludes in Haldren, Germany on March 17.  In addition to the European dates she is confirmed to play at this year's Forecastle Festival in Louisville, KY on July 16.  All dates are listed below.
How It Feels features the first bit of new music from Victoria since the release of her critically acclaimed debut album Beyond The Bloodhounds.
ADIA VICTORIA ON TOURMarch 9 - Amiens, France - Lune Des PiratesMarch 10 - Zurich, Switzerland -Rote Fabrik ClubraumMarch 11 - Lyon, France - Marche GareMarch 13 - Paris, France - Le Pop Up du LabelMarch 14 - London, UK - The LexingtonMarch 15 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands - ParadisoMarch 17 - Haldern, Germany - Haldern Pop BarJuly 16 - Louisville, KY - Forecastle FestivalAdia's musical introduction to the world came in the form of 3 tracks released over 18 months - "Stuck In The South," "Sea of Sand," and "Howlin' Shame." The music was quick to resonate and publications like FaderRookieTeen Vogue and NPR.  Rolling Stone featured Adia Victoria as one of "10 New Artists You Need to Know." The Village Voice called her an "eerie, intriguing songwriter," with "bone chilling guitar riffs and lyrics topped with candid scorn." Vogue highlighted the recording artist as one of "5 Beauties Who Answer to Afropunk's Rebellious Call."  With the release of her debut album Beyond The Bloodhounds in early 2016 the critical acclaim grew.  She performed on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and toured North America and the world.
"Beyond The Bloodhounds is a compilation of gothic, sharp witted, and fiery folk that is excellent," said  FADERDangerous Minds says "Adia Victoria's gestalt can be summed up in a musical Venn diagram wherein PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple and Hank Williams meet Jack White, Chelsea Wolfe, St. Vincent, Gary Clark Jr. and Patti Smith. She's an incredible guitarist. In her songwriting she has a remarkable talent for getting straight to the point. Her literate lyrics are sharply observed; direct yet intangible, so the listener can project themselves onto her poetry."  "Consider this a classic in the making" exclaimed Bust.

Starry Nites Music Festival teams with Obscura Digital for groundbreaking installation

STARRY NITES FESTIVAL PARTNERS WITH ACCLAIMED PROJECTIONIST TEAM OBSCURA DIGITAL FOR GROUNDBREAKING "FIRE EYES" ART INSTALLATIONWATCH THE SHORT DOCUMENTARY ON THE OBSCURA DIGITAL AND STARRY NITES PARTNERSHIP HERE
Starry Nites Festival in Santa Barbara and world acclaimed projectionist art team Obscura Digital have joined forces to bring festival goers a once in a life time immersive art installation about environmentalism and our earth's fragile eco-system.
During the main stage performances at Starry Nites Festival, three giant live oak trees in the village will appear to be lit afire, their bases and branches breathing like pulsing, burning embers, the fire seemingly shifting and drifting with the winds. We are reminded of the fragility of our delicate ecology, and the human race's role and responsibility in environmental sustainability. The scene shifts, and the trees alight with hauntingly beautiful portraits of endangered species. Stepping up to an interactive podium, participants are invited to inject their own faces into the experience, reflecting our connectedness and responsibility to these creatures, and reminding us how our actions affect them.
As the night progresses, an attendee's glance across the river to the sheer white cliffs of the mountainside will turn into a double-take and a jaw-dropped stare. Endangered species' eyes stare back, gazing over the valley ... and then the mountainside morphs into mouths seeming to consume the starry night before being consumed by fire.
"As a kid growing up in the 1990s I was struck by the creativity that seemed to very naturally pour from Travis. From his music and visual fascination to his personal nature, I have always admired him on so many levels. To this day, I continue to be inspired by his art and the spirit that he brings to his work. A big part of the reason Starry Nites has come to fruition was based on a conversation that we had a few years ago while sitting together at a park in San Francisco. We spoke of human connectivity, curiosity, exploration and how important it is to incite meaningful and positive influence on those around us and our environment. This festival marks our first collaboration together in 25 years. Having Travis as an integral feature of Starry Nites is immensely special for me. With "Fire Eyes" intentionally made interactive, it will equally be special for all those who attend. I'm excited and eternally grateful to him and to everyone at Obscura Digital for believing in this project."  --Tommy Dietrick, Co-Director of Starry Nites
