Bob Mould extends solo electric tour

Following his two sold-out shows at New York’s City Winery, Bob Mould is extending his solo electric tour to include Drill: Los Angeles and more stops throughout April. Be sure to catch Bob on these special dates where he will be playing career-spanning sets, and keep in mind his entreaty upon the release of Patch The Sky : “Just listen and see if you can fit yourself into my stories. The words make you remember. The music makes you forget.”
Check out Bob’s recent performance of “Hoover Dam” and “The War” at City Winery NYC and find Patch The Sky along with other Bob Mould catalog including the must-have Sugar reissues, in the Merge store.
“Patch The Sky sees Mould mining deeply personal territory while maintaining a guitar-focused aggression.” —Los Angeles Times“Tight, sharp musings on aging, fizzled relationships and death that are melodic enough to sound like songs of victory” —New York Times“A window-rattling reminder of the time when indie rock—a term that now can mean just about anything—was fierce and uncompromising.” —Rolling Stone

DIET CIG REVEAL NEW SINGLE "BARF DAY"

ON TOUR THIS SPRING + SXSW
photo by: Shervin Lainez Diet Cig will be releasing their debut album
Swear I'm Good At This
on April 7 (Frenchkiss) and in advance of its' release today share a new single "Barf Day." The track, which was spun earlier today by Zane Lowe on his Beats1 radio show, premiered via
Stereogum
who note, "The delightfully titled "Barf Day" (embodies) what makes the pair's upcoming debut Swear I'm Good At This so enthralling: the featherweight garage grit, Luciano's subversive sincerity, and bandmate Noah Bowman's fist-pumping percussion...Against all odds, Diet Cig are coming of age on their own terms."
Listen to "Barf Day"
"Barf Day" comes on the heels of Diet Cig's video for their hook-ridden single "Tummy Ache." NPR called the song "undeniable" and the video "a near-utopian space of grrrl power, music and community." It was directed by Robert Kolodny and stars campers from the Willie Mae Girl's Rock Camp and Girl's Rock Philly.
"('Tummy Ache,' is) a surge of earnest aspiration laced with self-questioning...layers of fuzztone, feedback and backup vocals expand the soundstage and raise the stakes: 'Finally it's time to make my words count/in a way I haven't quite figured out,' she sings. The music insists she will." The New York Times
"Their twee stylings could easily become sickly sweet to a fault if mishandled, but Luciano's honeyed voice makes the sentimental songwriting relatable." Pitchfork on Tummy Ache
Vocalist Alex Luciano brings a lighthearted innocence to ('Tummy Ache') singing criticisms of the patriarchy in the most charming way." NylonSwear I'm Good At This is now available to pre-order HERE - it includes an instant grat of "Tummy Ache" and tomorrow will also include "Barf Day." Further, Diet Cig will be collaborating with Tuesday Bassen on limited-edition pink silk bomber jackets only available in the preorder bundles. Artist Faye Orlove has designed the tee & sticker sheet that's is available with the preorder as well.
The band, who are well-known for their energetic and bombastic live shows, will be touring the world in support of Swear I'm Good At This. They will have Girl's Rock Camp affiliated camp bands and other young musicians joining them to open a handful of shows. "We're super excited to announce these shows in collaboration with Girl's Rock Camps across the US! we believe that supporting these young musicians is crucial to the future of rock, and we're so excited to share our stage with them."

Steady Holiday Shares "Terror" video with The Fader
Steady Holiday Shares "Terror" video with The Fader New EP due April 7 on Infinite Best Tour Dates with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah & Mitski Announced
"Under The Influence is a film score reinvented; it contains the movie's troubled mood and themes, turning them into a slinky ode to instability and imperfection. - The Fader"A feminine reinterpretation of post-2010 James Bond in post-coital, xanax infused mysterio-interim." - Flaunt Magazine“Both fresh and like it’s been around for a hundred years, a standard from a different world.” - Stereogum"Babinski plays violin and guitar on compositions that are often elegant and fully realized, akin to the early work of St. Vincent." - LA Weekly"Over a dark and loping country rhythm, Babinski skates her vocals with a delicate grace, the brittle timbre of her voice recalling both Björk and The Cardigans’ Nina Persson." - FLOODWatch: "Terror" official video via The Fader or YouTubeStream: "Terror" via Bandcamp
After helming her solo project Steady Holiday through a breakout 2016, with accolates that include being named LA Weekly's Best Solo Artist and Consequence Of Sound profiling the band as one of Five Rising LA Artists You Need to Hear, Dre Babinski woke up on November 9th with a need to respond. Three new songs were written in a month and recorded the next, each dealing with our new reality in different ways, collected here in the Terror EP. A gorgeous remix and a home recording of a new, hopeful song light the way forward. Featuring Josh Adams (Jenny Lewis) and produced by Gus Seyffert (The Black Keys, Beck), the Terror EP will be released by Infinite Best (Mr Twin Sister, Islands) in April 2017 digitally and on CD, the latter combined with her debut LP Under the Influence.
The Fader has premiered the new video for "Terror" from the upcoming EP and said, "'Terror,' is a spooky, orchestral pop track that bubbles with tension like a psychological thriller under lead singer Dre Babinski's gentle voice. The video for "Terror" is, well, terrifying: while cleaning her house, a woman finds a rat-like creature that will not die — a proper metaphor for fears and anxieties that become destructive when you try to shove them away without thought."
About the video Dre Babinski says, "I wanted to make something that combined totally overt absurdity with the grooves of fear and xenophobia that have been deepening in our country." She adds, "Both the video and song describe a character that is threatened by an unknown, and thinks/acts before taking the time to understand. It is upsetting to see that kind of reactiveness becoming common and accepted at every level, not just in our government but also in our homes and communities. It's a bit of a cautionary tale. Also, my director (Joseph Armario) and I really wanted to make a monster."
Steady Holiday will be touring this spring with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Mitski and will include performances in Philadelphia, New York, Boston and more. The band also announced a hometown EP release show taking place on April 7 at Resident. Tickets are for the release show are available HERE.

Annie Hardy (Giant Drag)
NPR Reveals Colorful “High Forever” Video
Solo Debut Album Rules ft. Don Bolles (The Germs), Stephen McBean (Pink Mountaintops, Black Mountain) and Petra Haden (That Dog)
+ Released April 7 on Full Psycho/American Primitive Records
“edgy pop” - The New Yorker
“If Kurt Cobain and PJ Harvey had a daughter she might write fuzzy quaalude-rock
tunes like this duo’s charismatic Annie Hardy” - SPIN
“The austerely funereal, organ-pumped ode “Batman” (named after the superhero onesie Silvio was wearing the day he died) echoes the fragile, childlike yearning of Daniel Johnston” - LA Weekly
“After my son died, it all had to come back out. … Writing these songs saved me.” - Annie Hardy
“It’s Mazzy Star for perverts, basically.” - Rolling Stone, Rob Sheffield
“Annie Hardy packs a punch, from her gauzy guitar tones to her arresting stage
presence to her potty mouth.” - The Los Angeles Times

Annie Hardy began her illustrious career as lead singer, songwriter and guitarist of Giant Drag over a decade ago. She returns to the public eye with her debut solo effort titled Rules on Full Psycho/American Primitive Records with contributions from Don Bolles (The Germs), Stephen McBean (Pink Mountaintops, Black Mountain), Petra Haden (That Dog) and Joe Cardamone (The Icarus Line). Crafted during a period of time during which she lost both her baby to SIDS at 17 days old as well as the baby’s father, her boyfriend Robert Paulson, the record is simultaneously beautiful and tragic.
Written in one very quick, flowing take in her garage, previously shared " Want " is a pleading, open wound of a lead single featuring Don Bolles from The Germs on drums and Stephen McBean from Pink Mountaintops and Black Mountain on guitar. Today NPR reveals introspective art-punk cut “High Forever” alongside its kaleidoscopic vibrant visual companion.

We encourage you to post & share!
Produced by Joe Cardamone of LA post-hardcore band The Icarus Line, on Rules Annie trades in the grunge-pop grooves of Giant Drag for experimental art-punk, exposing her fragility in a way she never has before. Often compared to bands such as My Bloody Valentine and PJ Harvey, Giant Drag played Coachella and the Reading and Leeds festivals as well as touring with Scissor Sisters, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Jesus and Mary Chain and many more. After surviving two years of incredible personal loss, Annie Hardy returns to release a powerful poignant solo debut.

King Tuff Announces West Coast Solo Shows
King Tuff Announces West Coast
Solo Shows
Ruth Garbus and Chris Weisman
of Happy Birthday to open
Illustrious rocker King Tuff has announced a short solo West Coast tour with his longtime friends and former-Happy Birthdaybandmates Ruth Garbus and Chris Weisman opening with their own solo sets. These dates will find the King showcasing a mix of older and newer material.
King Tuff - aka Kyle Thomas - had this to say about the shows: "I'm excited to announce I will be doing a little solo tour with two of my greatest old friends and favorite musicians Ruth Garbus and Chris Weisman. Ruth Garbus and Chris Weisman
of Happy Birthday to open

King Tuff - aka Kyle Thomas - had this to say about the shows: "I'm excited to announce I will be doing a little solo tour with two of my greatest old friends and favorite musicians Ruth Garbus and Chris Weisman. This is a rare treat because these Vermont genie/geniuses rarely leave their snow holes. I will be performing mostly new songs and the vibe will be magical/rustic/spazzy. Hope to see you there."

WATCH & SHARE: Crocodiles - "Not Even In Your Dreams" Today Brooklyn Vegan premiered the video for Crocodiles second single "Not Even In Your Dreams" and announced dates for the band's upcoming tour. "Not Even..." is the finale on 'Dreamless' which is out now on Zoo Music. Also be sure to check out the band's previous single "Telepathic Lover".Comprised of best friends Brandon Welchez and Charles Rowell, Crocodiles have earned their place as one of the United States’ most engaging, hardworking and consistent rock and roll bands of the past few years.
Dreamless
is the pair’s sixth LP, and is, at once, their most exploratory and focused release.
Whereas Crocodiles’ first two albums made their home amongst a stew of fuzzed-out psychedelia, and the following three albums explored Welchez and Rowell’s penchant for placing pop sensibilities against whirring guitars and barbed production, Dreamless sees the duo endeavoring on an artistic departure that positions their guitars in the backseat in favor of a more spacious, synthesizer and piano-driven sound.
“We’ve always been a guitar band and I think we just wanted to challenge ourselves and our aesthetic,” says Welchez. “It didn’t start as a conscious decision but within the first week Charlie’s mantra became ‘fuck guitars’. Only one song has zero guitar but in general we tried to find alternatives to fill that space.”
The title of the album works on both a literal and metaphorical level: “I suffered insomnia throughout the whole session. I was literally dreamless,” explains Welchez. “The past two years had been fraught with difficulty for us - relationship troubles, career woes, financial catastrophe, health issues,” he continues. “In that pessimistic mindset it was easy to feel as if the dream was over.”
The pair recorded the 10-track Dreamless in Mexico City over the course of 6 weeks. Having become something of a spiritual (and in the case of Welchez, literal) home to the duo, choosing D.F. as the location for recording allowed them to again hook-up with friend and occasional bandmate Martin Thulin (also a member of post-punks Exploded View ). Between them, the trio shared instrument duties, with Welchez and Rowell handling the lion’s share of guitar and bass, Thulin and Welchez the live drum work, and Thulin focusing largely on keys.
“Our relationship with Martin will serve as a pivotal point in our band’s history,” comments Rowell. “On this album Martin continued his efforts to help us take our songwriting and aesthetics to further reaches.”
Thulin’s work on Dreamless is in keeping with the exemplary production found on Crocodilesprevious releases and reconciles the band’s realigned focus on keys with their experiments of often pairing down the instrumentation to allow lyrical sentiments and themes to cut through to the fore. It’s an approach that has paid off, enabling the band to take more risks, both artistically and emotionally.
“And you’ll burn and weep and suffer,” says the chilling spoken-word sample that opens Dreamless . “The sample is from a Christian preacher that we found over 15 years ago and used on the first 7” we ever did together when we were still teenagers” explains Brandon Welchez. “Back then we used it with a sense of humor, laughing at the whole ridiculous guilt trip vibe. But hearing it again in our apartment in Mexico City, within the context of the words we were singing, it took on a different air. It lost the humorous aspect and just seemed like a commentary on life.”
An unsettling insight certainly, but if Crocodiles did indeed have to burn, weep and suffer in order to write and record Dreamless , then it was damn well worth it.

WIRE Silver/Lead + DRILL LA

Wire
Silver/Lead
pinkflag
31 March 2017Musical pioneers WIRE will release their 15th studio album Silver/Lead on March 31, the eve of their 40th anniversary. However this is an album with its sights firmly set on the future. On April 1, 2017, the anniversary of the bands first gig as the classic 4 piece at the Roxy Club. London, WIRE will be giving a headline performance at the Los Angeles edition of the bands boutique city festival DRILL : LA, a unique festival to mark 40 years of not looking back.
DRILL : LA March 30 - April 2 at the Echo & Echoplex, Los Angeles, CA WIREBob Mould * Julia Holter * Mild High Club, * Laetitia Sadier FITTED (Bob Lee, Graham Lewis, Matthew Simms, Mike Watt)Part Time Punks * HowardAmb, * Once and Future Band * Chasms * Noveller * Immersion * SLOWS+ the pinkflag guitar orchestra More Special Guests To Be Announced Soon
Since 2013, WIRE have been curating a series of international city festivals with the name DRILL. The idea being to bring together the best overview of both classic left field artists and new and emerging cutting edge talent. There will be several more DRILL : FESTIVALS taking place this spring, each featuring unique line ups. Updated info can be found at www.drillfestival.com
On Silver/Lead, Colin Newman and Matt Simms guitar work is alternately jagged and luminous, while bassist Graham Lewiss ear-catching lyrics are vivid yet oblique. Meanwhile, drummer Robert Grey provides a virtual masterclass in percussive minimalism. But its how the various instruments mesh together that really counts. And Newmans production creates a sonic space in which even the smallest gesture is accorded some recognition. Highlights include the optimistic dazzle of Diamonds In Cups, with its almost T. Rex-style buzz and chug, and the moody swing of This Time. Elsewhere on the musical spectrum, theres the menacing widescreen grandeur of "Playing Harp For The Fishes" and breakneck-paced guitar pop of "Short Elevated Period." Wire are one of the worlds most ground-breaking bands, their influence acknowledged by bands as diverse as Blur, Sonic Youth, R.E.M. and Savages. But they have never been interested in exploiting past glories. For Wire, there is only ever one possible direction: forwards. So its perhaps not surprising that over recent years, theyve played strings of sold-out shows, achieved career-best record sales, and been cited as a strong influence by yet another generation of bands. Wires last three albums garnered nothing but rave reviews. From 2013s strangely beautiful Change Becomes Us (Its fantastic. Pitchfork) to the crackling motorik of 2015s Wire (Its all really well turned, potent and crisp. The Guardian), and last years punchy mini-album Nocturnal Koreans(It's a cracker and sounds defiantly modern. The Quietus). Consequently, although it may be being released on the bands 40th anniversary, Silver/Lead is an album which has nothing to do with the past and everything to do with the future.
