Noise Pop Festival 2017

NOISE POP FESTIVAL CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY WITH ONE OF MOST SUCCESSFUL YEARS TO DATE
NOISE POP HOSTS OVER 28,000 ATTENDEES ACROSS 11 DAYS FEATURING 180+ ARTISTS AT 17 BAY AREA VENUES, SELLS OUT FESTIVAL BADGES AND NEARLY 90 PERCENT OF SHOWS -- Noise Pop Festival 2018 Scheduled Announced For February 16-26, 2018 -- SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 2, 2017) – Noise Pop Festival closed out their 25th annual event with a celebration of music, film and arts over eleven days in San Francisco and the Bay Area with one of their most successful fests to date. Next year’s festival is now confirmed for February 16-26, 2018.
Noise Pop 25, which took place this year on February 17–27, sold the most tickets than any other year to date. Festival GA badges sold out in advance this year, as did 88 percent of the shows spread across the Bay Area. Over 28,000 badge holders and ticket buyers attended the festival, catching 180+ artists over 17 venues, including clubs and theaters. The festival celebrated a quarter-century of Noise Pop with an array of amazing performances not only from national music acts but also from an impressive variety of established and up-and-coming Bay Area artists. This year’s lineup also carried on the festival’s musical expansion by including several genres in the music mix, with hip-hop, indie rock, electronic, metal, and more. Among the artists with stellar sold-out performances were Ty Segall, Grandaddy, Vince Staples, Dawes, Julien Baker, BadBadNotGood, Deafheaven, Tash Sultana, PWR BTTM, Rogue Wave (presented Cover Me: A Night of 80s Classics), and Creeper Lagoon (who performed together on stage for the first time since 2001). Additional favorite highlights of the festival included sets by Japanese Breakfast, Diet Cig, Hazel English, Middle Kids, Hanni El Khatib, and many more.
In addition to the music, fans were also able to experience captivating film and art shows. This year's fest celebrated John Scarpati with two gallery shows of large-scale canvases from some of his extensive collection of cover art. The film lineup included visually and aurally stunning presentations spotlighting music in film, with highlights including a live performance by The Melvins before the screening of Colossus of Destiny: A Melvin's Tale (Bay area Premiere), 2017 Audience Award selection L7: Pretend We're Dead (Northern California Premiere), Short Film Jury Selection, The Boombox Collection: Zion I, and Feature Film Jury Selection, Stronger Than Bullets (West Coast Premiere).
The 2017 Festival also welcomed the return of the Noise Pop After Hours at Café du Nord presented by Jameson Music, where the celebration continued multiple nights of the festival with surprise sets from several beloved Bay Area acts, including Thao (of Thao & The Get Down Stay Down), Jay Som, and Con Brio, playing to a packed venue.
Shepard Fairey—world-renowned contemporary street artist, graphic designer, activist, illustrator and founder of OBEY Clothing—was the creator of the 2017 festival artwork.

"Led by guitarist/songwriter/vocalist Devin Davis, Ramonda Hammer is a Los Angeles-based four-piece steeped in the sounds of 90s alt rock and college radio." - She Shreds
"Ramonda Hammer strikes a thin dichotomy between thrasher-pop anxiety and a rocker's shoulder shrug." - Earmilk
"Ramonda Hammer have perfected an indie-rock sound that’s equal parts power and melody."- LA Weekly
"Crunchy, grungey, no-B.S. ’90s-style alt-rock, with Davis’ gritty vocals wailing through the quartet’s muscular hooks and rhythms." - Buzzbands LA

Listen: "Zombie Sweater" via SoundCloud Ramonda Hammer have shared the video for their new single "Zombie Sweater" with She Shreds Magazine. About the video Ramonda Hammer's Devin Davis says:
When has bologna ever been the star of something, barring Oscar Mayer commercials from the 70s? Let's be real, it's kind of the redheaded stepchild of deli meats. In the last month, however, bologna is making a serious comeback. In our new music video for "Zombie Sweater", directed by Polaris Castillo, we see Hungry Guy played by Ariel Gardner, running for his life to protect a coveted piece of bologna. It was filmed all around the Los Angeles neighborhood of Highland Park, including at local businesses Barney's Liquor, Book Show, and The Hi Hat! We were going for a saturated daytime vibe, reminiscent of some old Michel Gondry music videos, which was nicely captured in that part of town. Much like the songs music and lyrics, the video's content is kind of sassy. Meant to entertain, you can think about it or don't think about it... it's out of our bologna-stained hands, ya know?
“Zombie Sweater" is available on New Professor Music via Bandcamp and all streaming services now. The song follows up their critically acclaimed album Whatever That Means which was released in the spring of 2016. Ramonda Hammer will be performing at SXSW. The band’s full schedule of upcoming shows will be announced shortly.
Ramonda Hammer is a grunge-pop project from Los Angeles, CA. To answer the question you’re inevitably going to ask, the band’s name is taken from a lady who was featured on the once-popular reality television show Cheaters. The show, in and of itself, represents how front-woman and band founder Devin Davis views life - it’s a mix of sad and funny, some people learn and some people don’t, and we take what we can to do what we can. Plus “Ramonda Hammer” just sounds cool.

The Garden Release 'Clay' + European Tour & EP
THE GARDEN TWINS DROP NEW TRACK ‘CLAY’ AHEAD OF EP RELEASE & EUROPEAN TOUR ‘U WANT THE SCOOP?’ IS SET FOR RELEASE VIA EPITAPH RECORDS THIS FRIDAY
“Post-punk basslines with hardcore velocity performed with such vitality you can’t keep your eyes off them” - The Guardian
The Garden ‘Clay’ - https://soundcloud.com/epitaph-records/the-garden-clay
West Coast neo-punk provocateurs The Garden are back with a new EP representing a youthful punk scene in California with their dirty, raw and immediate two-piece bass and drum attack. Produced by Rob Schnapf (Joyce Manor, Elliott Smith, Beck,) ‘U Want the Scoop?’ follows the band’s 2015 debut album proper ‘Haha,’ which amid the garage rock sat abstract spoken-word pieces, surrealist lyrics and a whole heap of perverse genre-jumping. Established in 2011, the duo - AKA Wyatt and Fletcher Shears - created the term "Vada Vada" to represent their music and other creations. The term represents total freedom of expression without boundaries or guidelines of any sort. “Why strive to be a part of a scene when you can create your own? Vada Vada is an alternative reality that we put ourselves into so we don’t have to fit in” explains Wyatt.
The Garden are on tour throughout Europe this month, playing Manchester Soup Kitchen on 21st and London SCALA on 22nd. Full European tour dates attached below.

WIRE Share New Single "Diamonds In Cups" with StereogumWest Coast Tour Dates & DRILL : LA Festival Announced
15th Studio Album Silver/Lead Out March 31 via pinkflag

Wire kick off extensive celebrations for their 40th year as a band in typical forward-thinking prolific form, with a new album. The band's upcoming release, Silver/Lead is due March 31st via the band's pinkflag label and today Stereogum has premiered the latest single from the album, “Diamonds In Cups.” Stereogum says, "This one features some exceptional guitar work that takes you up and down on a blissful, bouncing ride. With much of their recent material, Wire continues to keep true to themselves in a way that makes old fans stick around, while still freshening up their sound enough to engage new generations with each new decade of music."
Silver/Lead is the 15th studio album from musical pioneers Wire. It arrives on the 40th anniversary of their debut performance. Yet it’s about as far from nostalgia as you could get. This is the sound of a uniquely addictive 21st century psychedelic post-punkOn April 1, 2017, the anniversary of the band’s first gig as the “classic 4 piece” at the Roxy Club. London, WIRE will be giving a headline performance at the Los Angeles edition of the band’s boutique city festival DRILL : LA, a unique festival to mark “40 years of not looking back.” Wire have announced the addition of Mikal Cronin with a string & horn ensemble and Wand to the upcoming DRILL : LA festival taking place March 30 - April 2 at The Echo and Echoplex. Tickets for DRILL : LA are avaialble HERE.

+ the pinkflag guitar orchestraMore Special Guests To Be Announced SoonSince 2013, WIRE have been curating a series of international city festivals with the name DRILL. The idea being to bring together the best overview of both classic left field artists and new and emerging cutting edge talent. There will be several more DRILL : FESTIVALS taking place this spring, each featuring unique line ups. Details of the festivals will be announced shortly. Updated info can be found at www.drillfestival.comOn Silver/Lead, Colin Newman and Matt Simms’ guitar work is alternately jagged and luminous, while bassist Graham Lewis’s ear-catching lyrics are vivid yet oblique. Meanwhile, drummer Robert Grey provides a virtual masterclass in percussive minimalism. But it’s how the various instruments mesh together that really counts. And Newman’s production creates a sonic space in which even the smallest gesture is accorded some recognition.Highlights include the optimistic dazzle of “Diamonds In Cups,” with its almost T. Rex-style buzz and chug, and the moody swing of “This Time.” Elsewhere on the musical spectrum, there’s the menacing widescreen grandeur of "Playing Harp For The Fishes" and breakneck-paced guitar pop of "Short Elevated Period."Wire are one of the world’s most ground-breaking bands, their influence acknowledged by bands as diverse as Blur, Sonic Youth, R.E.M. and Savages. But they have never been interested in exploiting past glories. For Wire, there is only ever one possible direction: forwards. So it’s perhaps not surprising that over recent years, they’ve played strings of sold-out shows, achieved career-best record sales, and been cited as a strong influence by yet another generation of bands.Wire’s last three albums garnered nothing but rave reviews. From 2013’s strangely beautifulChange Becomes Us (“It’s fantastic.” – Pitchfork) to the crackling motorik of 2015’s Wire (“It’s all really well turned, potent and crisp.” – The Guardian), and last year’s punchy mini-album Nocturnal Koreans (“It's a cracker and sounds defiantly modern.” – The Quietus). Consequently, although it may be being released on the band’s 40th anniversary, Silver/Lead is an album which has nothing to do with the past and everything to do with the future. David Byrne's Contemporary Color Documentary Out This Friday
DAVID BYRNE'S CONTEMPORARY COLOR DOCUMENTARYOUT THIS FRIDAY, MARCH 3RD
David Byrne's Contemporary Color documentary will be released theatrically this Friday, March 3rd. In the summer of 2015, David Byrne staged an event at Brooklyn's Barclays Center to celebrate the creativity of Color Guard: synchronized dance routines involving flags, rifles, and sabers, colloquially known as "the sport of the arts." Watch the trailer right HERE.

David Byrne noted, "The Ross Bros refer to their film as a "joy bomb"...and it is, but both the event and their film, while entertaining, also touch on some very deep issues- creativity, inclusion, race, gender, body image and community. In this regard their film has turned out to be something unexpectedly relevant, extremely timely, and a much needed tonic and source of hope at exactly this moment."Byrne recruited performers including the likes of St. Vincent, Nelly Furtado, Devonté Hynes, Zola Jesus, Ad-Rock, tUnE-yArDs, and Ira Glass to collaborate on original pieces with 10 color guard teams from across the US and Canada.
The result is CONTEMPORARY COLOR, a bold and irrepressible snapshot of a one-of-a-kind live performance.
More info:Bill Ross and Turner Ross's latest documentary featuring and produced by David Byrne, CONTEMPORARY COLOR i The film premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, where it won awards for Best Documentary Cinematography and Best Documentary Editing. Oscilloscope will release the film in theaters in 2017 followed by a release across all ancillary platforms. The film's camera operators included many well-known documentary directors and cinematographers, including Jarred Alterman, Sean Price Williams, Robert Greene, Amanda Rose Wilder, Jessica Oreck, Wyatt Garfield, and Michael Palmieri.
"CONTEMPORARY COLOR is an otherworldly blend of athleticism, grace, spirit, and art captured in an unbelievably electric and creative way. Watching CC isn't just watching a film, it is experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime performance that is so much more than the sum of its set list." David Byrne said, "The teams and the musicians created this glorious, inspiring thing that runs counter to much of what is happening in the world right now - and the Ross brothers were the ones to feel that and capture it. We need an antidote, and here it is. The world is better than we think it is." Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which arranged financing for the film, brokered the distribution deal on behalf of the filmmakers. The film was produced by the Department of Motion Pictures' Josh Penn and Michael Gottwald, as well as by David Byrne. Executive Producers included Dan Janvey from the Department of Motion Pictures; Spencer Silna, Nicole Barton, and Douglas Saylor Jr. from Public Domain; LeeAnn Rossi from Todo Mundo; and Aaron Rosenblum.
