Book of Changes out now on Thrill Jockey
ENTRANCE kicks off a US headlining tour on April 5th
New York, NY – March 16, 2017 – ENTRANCE (aka Guy Blakelsee) is excited to release his brand new video for standout lead single “Always The Right Time.” Directed by Jay Buim who has worked with artists such as Jeff Koons and Nick Cave as well as bands like Future Islands and The Sea and Cake, the video was shot in Brooklyn, NY and features transgender actressKatherine Lyra Wakefield (aka Lyra Daydream).
“Always The Right Time” is at once an intimate declaration of love and a collective call to embrace love’s power to fight the dividing language of hate. It is part of ENTRANCE’s continued activism detailed below.
When you share remember to use the awareness tags of the ACLU equality campaign:
#StandWithGavin #ProtectTransKids #TransIsBeautiful
Katherine Lyra Wakefield was kind enough to share personal details of her journey and why it was important to her to be part of this video. It is an emotional read that concludes with a message echoing that of Blakeslee’s:
“Love is the only means we have to counteract hate and violence. More hate and violence will only make things worse. Through understanding and unconditional love there can be a larger “we,” a society that cares about the most vulnerable and forgets no one. We have the potential now more than ever. The movements in the 60s were amazing and inspiring but we have to go all the way this time. Love is more powerful than hate. Stay strong and when you’re tired, don’t give up. Lean on each other and keep going.”
– Katherine Lyra Wakefield (read her entire statement here)
The dress Katherine is seen wearing in the final shots was donated by Creatures of the Wind’s Shane Gabier and Chris Peters. Vogue applauded the designer’s creative response to current events, commenting, “A mean world still has room for beauty.”
The video’s release comes at a time when transgender rights (among many others) are at risk in our country and around the world. Blakeslee, who has always been a very vocal human-rights activist, believes that it is important to use his platform to help spread knowledge and a sense of understanding. Paying homage to fellow musician and freedom-fighter Woody Guthrie, Blakeslee’s guitar dons a note reading “This Machine Kills Fascists” through-out the video. ENTRANCE recently released the protest track “ Not Gonna Say Your Name ” donating all of the proceeds ($1,000 and counting) to Planned Parenthood .
“Always The Right Time” – Blakeslee’s first single from Book of Changes – has gotten strong support from the likes of KEXP and the heir to the John Peel Throne, John Kennedy. This is the first ENTRANCE album in more than a decade, and was released to rave reviews on February 24th via Thrill Jockey. Pitchfork proclaimed “Guy Blakeslee’s songs are newly exposed and intimate, telling a story of love and loss with folk, pop, and echoes of Laurel Canyon” and FLOOD Magazine called the album “a welcome creative reawakening that’s lyrically stronger and more developed and heart-stirring than anything he’s done before.”

Japan's Otoboke Beaver Announce EP + share song + play SXSW TONIGHT
Otoboke Beaver Announce Love Is Short EP

Out March 24 on Damnably Records
First Track “Love Is Short” Premieres Via i-D,
Listen & Share Here
US Debut Performance at SXSW
Kyoto’s punk-rock-garage quartet Otoboke Beaver have released their song “Love Is Short” today via i-D . The title track appears on their EP Love Is Short , our March 24 onDamnably Records. Listen + share "Love Is Short" here.
Otoboke Beaver will be making their US performance debut at SXSW this year at Maggie Mae’s in Austin on March 16. They will have a headline tour of the UK following in May.
Otoboke Beaver describe themselves as: “Japanese girls 'knock out or pound cake' band”.Formed in the summer of 2009 in Kyoto, Japan, and consists of Accorinrin (lead Vocal & Guitar), Yoyoyoshie (Guitar &Vocals), Hiro-chan (Bass &Vocals), Pop (Drums &Vocals). Live, the band invade the audience and have shared stages with Shonen Knife, Guitar Wolf, BO NINGEN and more. “Love is Short!!” is the second EP and third release (outside Japan) from Otoboke Beaver.
The band’s name is taken from a local ‘Love Hotel’ and the song subject matter is a screw you to bad love, devious boyfriends and general sexism. Their early releases carried artwork with scary visual beaver puns and Otoboke Beaver are part of a new wave of feminist Japanese bands, defining themselves sexually and musically. The pressure of the conformist and patriarchal society is palpable in their music.
Love Is Short sees the band blood-letting a generation’s gender frustration. Introduce me to your family has more vocal playfulness, funky bass and buzzsaw guitar that eventually tumbles into a volcano of noise, with beats tripping over themselves and looks at relationships as a kind of personal war. Ikezu (Mean) at 19 seconds is a stamping flash of anger. There's something about the Kansai triangle (Osaka/Kobe/Kyoto - it's Japan's Midlands, America’s midwest) that's produced some great and very varied music with a great sense of unity, though each city is radically different. Otoboke Beaver have emerged from one of those many provincial scenes, influenced by western Riot Grrrl attitudes and the sounds of punk and angular post-rock, make easy work of the complex arrangements, reminiscent of inventive jazzy queercore punks ‘God Is My Co-Pilot’, or more recently ‘Afrirampo’. The band sing in Japanese, and often in difficult to translate Kyoto slang.
2017 will see their US debut at SXSW and their first UK headline tour.

Burger Records Announces Lovely Bad Things EP

Burger Records announced they will release a new EP from Lovely Bad Things on March 31st, just in time for a run of shows for the band. You can check out the first single from the Homebodied EP now (see CLRVYNT debut)....
Listen "Hiding To Nothing"
The legend of Lovely Bad Things began in an eerily boring town called La Mirada which is nestled between Los Angeles and Orange County, a fitting place for a band to find solace in music. Brothers Camron (guitar, vocals) and Brayden Ward (drums, vocals) met Lauren Curtius (guitar, vocals), Tim Hatch (guitar) and Wesley Baxter (bass) during their formative years, and joined forces to create a perfect blend of the most infectiously resonant aspects of their alternative and punk predecessors.
Lovely Bad Things offer a wild and humorous stage presence while effortlessly shredding the musical prowess they've spent the past 8 years cultivating. At one of their shows you're likely to be struck by Lauren's distinctly beautiful and powerful voice, Brayden's vehemently dynamic drumming, the solid and smooth bass of Wesley, and the mind melting trio of guitars shoved forever in your head by Tim, Camron and Lauren. They've played countless house shows and local venues, embarked on several cross-country solo tours, as well as with Best Coast and Diarrhea Planet, and have performed festivals including FYF, SXSW and Primavera Sound.
The music obsessed Lovely Bad Things' sound falls within the realm of Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., Weezer and the like. Lovely Bad Things meticulously craft and distribute their music with a respectable DIY ethos. All album artwork and merch are made from scratch by Brayden, and each member of the band contributes in songwriting and multi-instrumentation. Their hard work puts a giant emphasis on the Grown Ups end, while their hilarious and charmingly chaotic energy screams Teenage. Whether you're in your own young confusion searching for music to make you feel like you're not alone, a music snob who has a pessimistic outlook on anything post 90's, or simply a lover of music, Lovely Bad Things should be in heavy rotation.
Lovely Bad Things on tour!
March 18th Santa Ana, CA - The Constellation Room (w/ Kim And The Created)March 30th Los Angeles, CA - Secret Location (record release show! TBA Day-of)March 31st San Diego, CA - Che Cafe W/ Dog PartyApril 1st Stockton, CA - Channel Brewing Company (w/ Boy Romeo and Caterwall)April 6th San Francisco, CA - Brick and Mortar (w/ Caterwall and HotFlash Heatwave)
Praise For Lovely Bad Things"The boy-girl vocal exchange that powers this rambunctious quartet's infectious songs is positively Frank and Kim (Pixies), but the playful humor and slackerly vibes are their own, making the band's music an enticing addition to the conversation." - SPIN
"The band's live energy defines them, with a garage influence comparable to Burger Records graduates King Tuff and Ty Segall and a first single that could be the best cover of the Pixies ever if the Pixies had written the song." - Paste
"If you take the energy of any of the aforementioned acts (Black Keys, Ty Segall and King Tuff), combine it with an optimistic pop charm and a LA-worthy pop culture obsession, you should have a good idea about Lovely Bad Things" - Ad Hoc
"...an homage to 90s rock with ragged riffs, crashing cymbals, and tragic lyrics inspired by the Pixies and Dinosaur Jr." - Nylon

Photo courtesy of Caroline Schub Horoscope is Rene J Nunez Cabrera from Miami, Florida. For the past several years, Horoscope has been slowly leading those in the know down a path of self discovery and expression. Nunez Cabrera hypnotizes audiences with a unique brand of cathartic live performances and a slew of releases on labels such as Ascetic House and No Rent Records.
With Misogyny Stone , his second LP for Wharf Cat, Nunez Cabrera looks inward and explores his past and place within the world. Though the artist's intent need not be force-fed to the listener -- this is a work that rewards individual interpretation. Put in another way, this is a record for the listener to find themselves within.
In order to make Misogyny Stone distinct from his past releases, Nunez Cabrera used techniques new to him involving modular synthesis while integrating more standard rhythms into the compositions. By using these methods as well as tape manipulation, and a slew of effects Misogyny Stone avoids the common trappings of American harsh noise and European industrial / dark ambient music.
The cover art was designed by Nina Hartmann, Edition of 500.

Manic Street Preachers - 'Send Away The Tigers' Anniversary // Live Dates // New Documentary

Manic Street Preachers get set for spring/summer of 2017 with a selection of activities both release wise and live. Having recently moved into a new studio outside Newport after leaving their Cardiff base in the Autumn of 2016, they are about to start work on a new album, the follow up to 2014’s critically acclaimed No. 2 album ‘Futurology’.
Their eighth album ‘Send Away The Tigers’ enjoys its 10th Anniversary and a very special edition is being released with a double cd + DVD bookset, double vinyl (with download codes) and digital versions available on 12th May 2017. Featuring all audio remastered by James Dean Bradfield of the original album, there will also be unheard demos; a bonus disc of b-sides and rare tracks; a DVD of their full 2007 Glastonbury set; promo videos and rare/never seen before footage from rehearsals. Nicky Wire has also contributed handwritten lyrics and imagery from his personal archive. "Send Away The Tigers was a very important record for us, it gave us a new lease of life and helped us to rediscover our love of the band. This edition helps to tell the whole story. Through demos, home recordings and hand-written lyrics you find intimate details of a band about to reinvent themselves.” Manic Street Preachers
Prior to this, Sky Arts will be screening a documentary on 15th April of ‘Escape From History’ made by Manics collaborator BAFTA award winning director Kieran Evans. The film describes the period after guitarist Richey Edwards went missing and follows the band as they record and release their landmark fourth album ‘everything must go’. Through the eyes of the band and close associates the film reveals the internal dynamics and creative relationships within Manic Street Preachers.
James Dean Bradfield has also composed the soundtrack to a new independent film released on 10th March. ‘The Chamber’ is a claustrophobic survival thriller, set below the Yellow Sea and described as a “new sound from Bradfield and adds to the dark and atmospheric mood of the film”. The album is released on Sony Classics on the same day as the film.

The FADER premiered the single, calling it a "sultry power ballad" and writing "Tei Shi's acrobatic vocals shine once again on "How Far,"... The track - which pairs gut-wrenching lyrics like "If it pleases you to see me struggle/ I will" with dreamy guitars and buzzing production - explores the thin line between love and destruction. And it'll stick with you."

The Garden - Live in Manchester & London next week!
THE GARDEN PLAY MANCHESTER SOUP KITCHEN AND LONDON’S SCALA NEXT WEEK
FOLLOWING THE RELEASE OF THEIR ‘U WANT THE SCOOP?’ EP, THE ORANGE COUNTY TWINS RETURN TO THE UK IN TYPICALLY ENIGMATIC FASHION
‘Post-punk basslines with hardcore velocity performed with such vitality you can’t keep your eyes off them’ The Guardian
‘U Want the Scoop?’ EP - https://open.spotify.com/album/4X8orytXoZlQs9AiMOZIxW
West Coast neo-punk provocateurs The Garden recently released ‘U Want the Scoop?’ via Epitaph Records, representing a youthful punk scene in California with their dirty, raw and immediate two-piece bass and drum attack. Produced by Rob Schnapf (Joyce Manor, Elliott Smith, Beck,) ‘U Want the Scoop?’ follows the band’s 2015 debut album proper ‘Haha,’ which amid the garage rock sat abstract spoken-word pieces, surrealist lyrics and a whole heap of perverse genre-jumping. Established in 2011, the duo - AKA Wyatt and Fletcher Shears - created the term "Vada Vada" to represent their music and other creations. The term represents total freedom of expression without boundaries or guidelines of any sort. “Why strive to be a part of a scene when you can create your own? Vada Vada is an alternative reality that we put ourselves into so we don’t have to fit in” explains Wyatt.
After making their way across Europe, The Garden play 2 UK at Manchester Soup Kitchen on 21st and London SCALA on 22nd.
