New Album BE HERE NOW Out August 25

The Mynabirds have released the video for their song “Shouting At The Dark” today via W Magazine . The song appears on their forth-coming album  BE HERE NOW  coming out on August 25 via Saddle Creek. “Shouting At The Dark” will be released as a three song EP (track listing: Be Here Now, Golden Age, Shouting At The Dark) on Friday, the second of three EP’s to be released ahead of the full album. Watch and share the videohere and pre-order BE HERE NOW here.

Laura Burhenn tells W Magazine about the inspiration behind “Shouting At The Dark”:  “To premiere this video a day after Trump announced his ban on transgender military members is especially powerful. The song "Shouting at the Dark" is about never giving up, about continuing to tear away the darkness of the patriarchy, and the walls that try to hold us in. It was important for me to create an expression of that resistance from the voice of womyn, and I am so honored to dance side by side with my trans and queer friends in this video. It becomes a rallying cry for resistance, for protection, a call to the most vulnerable people among us to know that they are loved and accepted, and that we've got their backs.”

BE HERE NOW is a collection of 9 songs written and recorded in just 2 weeks in January 2017 following the Inauguration and the Women’s March. Singer Laura Burhenn worked with producer Patrick Damphier in his Nashville studio (which he was being evicted as the neighborhood began to gentrify, old warehouses turning to tech offices and luxury condos) to document the news and peoples’ intense emotional responses to it all in real time. No stranger to politics in her songwriting, Laura aimed to speak from the voice of the collective consciousness in a work of “Emotional Journalism,” singing the heartbreak, anger, exhaustion and resolute hope she witnessed during the Muslim travel ban, the final stand at Standing Rock, and every other news story that rattled America in that period. The album vacillates in style and feel to reflect a frayed nation, featuring a Burundian refugee choir on one song, and a cacophony of dissonant saxophones in a new national anthem on another. It is the last recording made in that space.

BE HERE NOW is being released very quickly as 3 digital EPs over 3 months to emphasize the immediacy of the songs. It will culminate in an official full album release on Saddle Creek on August 25, 2017.

The Mynabirds will be performing at Los Angeles’ Bootleg Theater on August 25. Tickets are available here.

So Pitted’s neo is now available on CD / LP / DL / CASS worldwide from Sub Pop. The album was co-produced & mixed by So Pitted & Dylan Wall and recorded at The Old Fire House, Media Lab, Spruce Haus, the band’s practice space and Tastefully Loud in Seattle. neo was also engineered by Wall at Tastefully Loud and mastered by Eric Boulanger at The Bakery in Los Angeles.

What people have said about So Pitted:
"Minimalist force is what Seattle punk band So Pitted does. They excel at it. On neo, their debut, the trio sound like the proverbial (mechanical) bull in a china shop—except that bull is intentionally there to fuck up some fine dinnerware and is determined to have a hell of a time doing it."  -  Pitchfork

“Catharsis and candor are embedded in these explosive tracks. So Pitted tap into the void that the likes of Black Flag and Nirvana looked into and saw themselves in.” - Consequence of Sound

“It’s grimy and tormented all right, but intent on subverting the many adolescent cliches and
connotations that come with grunge.” -   The Guardian

“Maddeningly loud, loosely formed, disgusting like a romantic weekend trip down the local sewers.” -  DIY

“Like an 80s DC hardcore band covering a forlorn Sebadoh demo (until it descends nihilistically into its final minute of diehard industrial static).” -  The Quietus

“Their primal, scrappy rock and roll scrapes all optimism from your soul until you just don’t care about anything anymore.” [8/10]  -  Drowned In Sound

“…A barbed tarpit of sound.” -  Loud & Quiet

“Snotty, snarling and belligerent.” -  Uncut

neo is part debut-album, part audio assault.” [4/5] - Upset

“It’s early in the year to make this sort of claim, but we can say with confidence that in ten months’ time you’ll be looking back on neo as one of 2016’s best debuts, by some distance." -  The Skinny

“...A raucous, inspiring noise, the buzzsaw melody is matched to wailing feedback - imagine Bikini Kill set against early Mary Chain and you'd probably be in the same ballpark.” -  Clash

“Quite simply, neo is noise rock like nothing else.” - London In Stereo

“...making a name for themselves with a sneery, warped, post-apocalyptic punk sound and wild stage show.” - Brooklyn Vegan

“…Buzzing with nausea and excitement. [rot in hell] burns with the urgency of the music you need to make or you’ll crumple, music you’d be making whether other people heard it or not.” -  Impose

“So Pitted are poised to start a riot that’s very much their own.” -  Record Collector

“The triad has haunted Seattle’s DIY underground since 2010, sometimes playing three shows a week (seemingly re-dying their hair a different color for each), honing an incredibly loud, atonal style of neo-grunge, equal parts confusing and enthralling. Koewler plays her guitar through a bass amp to achieve the band’s defining metallic low-end scuzz. Rodriguez, plucking out chaotic leads on his heavily effected guitar, barks unintelligibly feral screeds into a microphone so hard that his veins often look as though they’ll pop. Downey usually performs with self-fashioned pipe-cleaner antennae sticking out from his head. He occasionally switches places with Rodriguez to mumble his own strange songs, a left-field take on ’80s New Wave filtered through a filthy meat grinder.”  -  Seattle Weekly

“Boldly going where no rock band has gone before—and fucking around a bit, too.” [“Breaking” feature] -  FLOOD

Whispertown Announces Fall Tour Dates With M. Ward

Whispertown Announces Fall Tour Dates With M. WardNew Album I'm A Man out September 1 on Graveface RecordsLos Angeles Record Release Show Announced"She's the nicest and I always really loved her voice." - Kim Deal on Morgan Nagler
"Morgan Nagler is my favorite songwriter. Period.” - Jenny LewisStream: "I'm A Man" at Impose Magazine or SoundCloud
Los Angeles-based band Whispertown announced fall tour dates with M. Ward. Whispertown will be touring in support of I'm A Man due September 1 on Graveface Records which can be pre-ordered now at Bandcamp. The band has also announced a hometown record release show on September 1 at The Bootleg Theater. Tickets for the show are available HERE. All upcoming shows are listed below.
Earlier this month Whispertown shared the title track from the upcoming release with  Impose Magazine  and the song is available to share via Soundcloud.
About the song Whispertown's Morgan Nagler says:
"I'm A Man" is an underground anthem for human beings.  In a modern world built on comfort and convenience, where humans are becoming more and more isolated, living inside flat glass screens with a fickle and false sense of community, there comes a time to break out. I hope it will not be too late. In this pivotal moment, one foot in the quicksand, I reach out to all, holding space for this hope. I reach out not as a gender, or a skin tone. Not as a political party, or a religion. Not as an age or as an avatar, but as a man. A human. All for one and one for all. At the risk of sounding like a hippie optimist (which I am), love is all you need.  Team Human. New Genes in Blue Jeans. We can change. In fact we are in a constant state of change. Empathy can turn the tides.
Whispertown is the latest iteration of the unique vision of Morgan Meyn Nagler (songwriter, lead vocals, guitar).  What was once The Whispertown 2000 has morphed into a less structured version of itself, with Nagler’s unmistakable vocals leading a revolving cast of musicians and artists. I'm A Man (produced by Jake Bellows), set to be released September 1 on Graveface Records, marks Nagler’s return, and third full length release. After being diagnosed with a polyp on her vocal cord, and faced with the possibility of never singing again, Nagler discovered she is without a doubt a “lifer”, and married to song writing, for better and for worse. I'm A Man is a stripped back acoustic album, set in a naturally psychedelic world, where words reveal themselves in modern mantra - “New Genes in Blue Jeans”.
In various formations, Nagler and company garnered support slots for Jenny Lewis, The Breeders, Bright Eyes, She & Him, Maria Taylor, Rilo Kiley, Azure Ray, Conor Oberst and many more. The band soon caught the attention of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, inspiring the first signing to their own Acony Records. Shortly thereafter the band released 2008’s Swim, their debut release from Acony, followed by 2012’s Parallel (the first release under the Whispertown moniker).
Additionally, Whispertown's Morgan Nagler has traveled around the world playing her own music and has also worked countless co-writes with artists such as HAIM (“Falling”), Kim Deal (“The Root”,”Range on Castle”), Rilo Kiley (“Dreamworld”) and the Dave Rawlings Machine (“Sweet Tooth”) to name a few.

Shannon Lay announced as first release on Kevin Morby's new label, Mare Records, an imprint of Woodsist

Shannon Lay announced as first release on Kevin Morby's new label, Mare Records, an imprint of Woodsist -- listen to "The Moons Detriment"

Shannon Lay will also open Morby's Fall tour

Today Kevin Morby is officially launching his new label imprint, Mare Records with the signing of Shannon Lay & announcement of her new LP, Living Water. Mare Records will operate as an imprint of the Woodsist label, which also released Morby's first two solo albums. Listen to the first single from Shannon's new record, "The Moons Detriment." Shannon Lay will also open up for Morby on his Fall North American tour (see full dates below).Bio:
"The first time I saw Shannon my heart was broken into a million pieces. I had known her from her wonderful punk band Feels as the lead guitarist who shouted back up, but I wasn't sure what to expect from her performing solo. But there she was - at a small bar in Los Angeles to maybe 15 people watching while she sat in a chair with an electric guitar on her knee, orange hair covering her face and a picture of Bart Simpson projected behind her. She began her set and my heart stopped the moment her voice leaped into the air - and I did what I do in those rare situations - I recorded it. I pulled out my phone, opened up the voice memos and recorded her whole set (the last time I had done this was three years earlier while watching Kris Kristofferson and Harry Dean Stanton do duets set at Cinefamily). After her performance I was in complete awe and wasn't sure how to approach her to convey how much I loved it. Suddenly Shannon, an acquaintance from around town, had exposed her super power and I felt instantly star struck in her presence. "I recorded your set so I could listen to it again" I told her, and then to my surprise I found myself saying "let me put out your record" and after convincing Jeremy at Woodsist to do a collaborative release with me, here it is.Living Water is an instant classic. Recorded by Emmet Kelly (Cairo Gang, Bonnie Prince Billy, Ty Segall) in his Los Angeles home studio, this is an album where you can hear the room reacting to the music taking shape around it.Shannon has a voice that transcends time and space. You can't tell if she's old or new, if she's sitting next to you, on a mountain top, or down in some canyon. Already her second LP to be released in 2017, Shannon is a prolific songwriter, one who lives and breaths melody and with guitar skills to boot. Despite it's 14 tracks, Living Watercomes in well under 40 minutes, but like Pink Moon or Just Another Diamond Day before it, this is music so potent it exists outside the realms of time - but in a world specific only to itself and the new feelings it creates.Shannon has been dominating the local scene in Los Angeles over the past two years, leaving everyone who witnesses completely breathless. Having just finished a tour with Ty Segall, Shannon is set to support Kevin Morby on a national tour this fall."

MYRKUR Debuts New Video "Ulvinde" via NPR - 'Mareridt' Coming on Relapse September 15

    MYRKUR Debuts New Video "Ulvinde"
'Mareridt'  Coming September 15 via Relapse Records

Special Performances at Brooklyn's Rough Trade + St. Vitus
Watch + Share "Ulvinde" via YouTube Here
MYRKUR's stunning new video "Ulvinde", directed by Mats Ek, beautifully captures her longing for a place in nature, in peace, away from the 'real' world - a world that she explains "often feels I cannot and was never meant to function in." Inner and outer demons all come to life in breathtaking footage captured across Norwegian landscapes and scenery.
"Ulvinde" debuted via NPR today describing MYRKUR's delivery "full of sustaining notes that subtly decay, is reminiscent of choral music - with all the ritualism, religiosity and awe it entails." It is the second single from MYRKUR's impending album 'Mareridt' coming September 15 on Relapse. "Ulvinde" features Amalie Bruun on violin, guitar, piano, Wolves In The Throne Room's Aaron Weaver on drums, alongside Andreas Lynge and William Hayes on guitars plus choir singers Veslemøy Heyerdahl and Ida Sandberg Motzfelt.
MYRKUR's is renowned Danish composer and classically trained multi-instrumentalist, Amalie Bruun. Her sophomore album 'Mareridt' (translation: Nightmare) is a rich juxtaposition of the dark and the light; the moon and the mother earth; the witch and the saint. MYRKUR explores deeper into the mysterious and the feminine with 11 tracks that further progress her visionary blend of metal with gorgeous, stirring melodies, dark folk passages, choral arrangements and superb, horrific beauty.
Further taking MYRKUR to new artistic heights are lyrics in multiple languages, an unforgettable collaboration with Chelsea Wolfe and an array of special instrumentation including violin, mandola, folk drums, nyckelharpa (an ancient Swedish key harp), and Kulning (an ancient Scandinavian herding call). 'Mareridt' is a profound manifestation of nightmares that demonstrates MYRKUR as one of the truly exceptional artists of our time. Like a marriage of King Diamond's 'Them' with Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake', 'Mareridt' is a carefully composed concept freed from genre. The compositions sweep into one another like a soundtrack designed to guide the listener through emotional turmoil. One minute the songs are fighting back, the next lulling you to submission. Timeless, triumphant, powerful and hypnotic, 'Mareridt' is a sonic nightmare that you never want to escape.
MYRKUR is:Amalie Bruun - all instruments and composition.

Eszter Balint playing McCabe's opening for Tammy Faye Starlite August 25th

Singer/songwriter/actress extraordinaire Eszter Balint is due to play her first Los Angeles date in a very long time. She'll be opening for Tammy Faye Starlite andaccompanying Ms. Starlite as well in her tribute to the late Velvet Underground chanteuse Nico at McCabe's on August 25. In her own set, Balint will be showcasing material from her three solo albums along with brand new materials. Her most recent album Airless Midnight was recorded in New York's Brooklyn Recording and Richmond's Montrose Recording, produced by JD Foster, and features masterful and provocative guitar work from Chris Cochrane (John Zorn), Marc Ribot, Dave Schramm (Yo La Tengo), as well as distinctive vocal contributions from songstress Sam Phillips. I'm hoping you'll consider advancing her show with a feature or advance blurb. Please let me know if you need the music. Here's the first video from the album, "Trouble You Don't See:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDSR6Ahk8e8 Eszter has been very busy for past few years. In 2014 she was making good progress writing material for the new album when out of the blue-after a long hiatus from acting-she was offered a part she couldn't refuse. She agreed to be featured in a six-episode arc of Louis C.K.'s F/X series Louie, Season 4; her performance as his Hungarian girlfriend "Amia" earned her considerable critical praise. Eszter also improvised compositions, sang and played violin for the series. As soon as filming wrapped, Eszter returned to work on her album. After releasing her second album Mud in 2004, Eszter took a break from music and focused on parenting. Once her son started attending school, she began writing again, in part, "to keep sane while coping with a series of difficult personal circumstances." After a number of years spent writing and polishing these songs, doing studio sessions with other artists and resuming live performance, Balint felt she had a body of work worth capturing in the studio. What resulted is Balint's most confident effort to date. The lyrics are cohesive and support strong, if mysterious, narratives with a decisive cinematic feel. The accompanying tunes are varied and strategically eclectic in approach. There's more rock and punk influence here, which gives way to an eerie, calm spaciousness. These songs are artful, sophisticated yet earthy, there's guts and grit and beauty too; it's an eloquent expression of her life experiences to date.

YES Drummer Alan White Welcomes Dylan Howe To Join Rhythm Section for YESTIVAL Tour // YES To Launch Video Diary July 29

YES DRUMMER ALAN WHITEWELCOMESDYLAN HOWETO JOIN RHYTHM SECTIONFOR NORTH AMERICAN 'YESTIVAL' TOUR YES TO LAUNCHVIDEO DIARY JULY 29IN CONJUNCTION WITHROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME AND LIVE NATION
2017 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees YES and longtime drummer Alan White have today (7/26) announced that Dylan Howe, son of guitarist Steve Howe, will be joining the band's rhythm section on this summer's 31-date North American YESTIVAL tour creating a twin drum powerhouse alongside White, in similar fashion that Bill Bruford and White brought on their Union Tour in the early 1990s with two drummers playing simultaneously. "It's a pleasure for me to welcome Dylan Howe to the YES stage," shares White. I'm very much looking forward to performing with him this summer for the upcoming YES tour." "I feel very honored and fortunate to have got the call to join YES this summer," adds Dylan. "This to me is, quite possibly, the musical zenith of my career - my love for this music and the great musicianship that runs through it has always been a massive inspiration to me. Bill and Alan's drumming is why I started playing the drums in the first place, and to have the opportunity to honor their great contribution to drumming whilst playing alongside Alan with my brilliant father and this outstanding lineup is a dream come true for me."    Above (L-R): Alan White (July 19, 2017 at WHITE show in Newcastle, WA) and Dylan Howe YESTIVAL features special guest Todd Rundgren and an opening set from Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy honoring the magic of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake, as well as a few special "Evening with YES" shows. Warbly Jets to release self-titled debut album on Oct 20 // Pre-Order now available

TO RELEASE SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM ON OCTOBER 20
"4th COMING BOMB" DEBUTS AT FLAUNT
SUMMER TOUR STARTS TOMORROW AT THE ROXY IN LA CONTINUING TO EUROPE IN THE FALLPhoto: Marko Prelic Stream & Share: 4th Coming Bomb

"Starting off with soft, synthesized beats, “4th Coming Bomb” detonates into a full-out jam by melding together buoyant drum lines and guitar chords into a rhythm that’ll have both your hips swaying and your heart aching for October."
Flaunt: “4th Coming Bomb” Premiere

New York, NY (July 25, 2017) – Ask synth player Julien O'Neill how  Warbly Jets  fits into LA's music scene and he'll have a simple answer for you: they don't. They exist out there in the ether—caught somewhere in between yesterday and today, where massive rock 'n' roll melodies brush up against skittish breakbeats, swoon-worthy strings, and laser-guided synth lines. Warbly Jets will release its self-titled debut album on October 20 via Rebel Union Recordings and the album is available for pre-order at PledgeMusic and iTunes.

Despite a lack of allegiance to any sound or place, since the release of their debut single " Alive " and the slithering music industry indictment " The Lowdown " the four piece has grown explosively and earned praise from Brooklyn Vegan, Indie Shuffle, Self-Titled, Live FAST, KROQ, 91X and LA Weekly and climbed the charts of Spotify, VEVO and Apple Music. Today,  Flaunt  debuts the third album track with " 4th Coming Bomb ", a cacophony of melody where each instrument holds it’s own hook while their rhythms mash together in demented ways.

"The music mirrors the message," says the band. We’re all trying to live and breathe in this world at the same time, not noticing if we’re hurting or helping one another. It works for now, but might explode at any second."

The lyrics were inspired by singer/guitarist Samual Shea's favorite quotes by writer Eugene Bell, "Aspire to inspire before you expire."

"This quote alway shaped that way I create music," he says. "I hope that as an artist I can leave a lasting impression and inspire the creatives of our future even after i'm no longer around."

Lomelda shares "Out There," touring this fall with Pinegrove and Florist

LOMELDA SHARES "OUT THERE"

LISTEN TO "OUT THERE"
Today, Lomelda has shared "Out There," the latest from her upcoming album, Thx NPR , who premiered the track, are calling it "a gentle, swaying track that rests on Read's cautious delivery," while songwriter Hannah Read, says it's a song about "never knowing." Thx is available for pre-ordernow and due out September 8th via Double Double Whammy.
Hannah Read, who performs under the moniker Lomelda, makes music that is textural and spacious. Her words are suggestive snapshots of loosely knitted observations, depicting quiet moments between friends and lovers and half-remembered celestial occurrences. In her songs, the memory of the past and glimpses of future stretch out on either side of you, and the present is unsteady and always shifting.
Lomelda has also announced a Fall tour with Pinegrove and Florist. All dates below.
LISTEN TO THE ALBUM'S PREVIOUS SINGLE "INTERSTATE VISION"
ABOUT LOMELDA:If you were to ask Hannah Read what Lomelda means, you'd probably end up with some kind of non-answer and a new topic. It is a guarded secret reserved for those who really pry. It is a high school attempt at describing something vast and powerful yet uniquely quiet and complex. And it is ever-changing. Lomelda is about memory, intimacy, and the tragedies of distance. As a band, it has appeared in several forms over the years, but always, to Hannah, Lomelda has been about discovering friendship and connection. Close collaborators have become closer friends. And when you see Lomelda, when you hear it, it is apparent that Hannah cares deeply about the connection made with the people on stage, the connection with you.
PRAISE FOR LOMELDA:"Washed with a sense of cautious wonder... 'InterstateVision' shows Read's knack for imbuing small observations with vast, occasionally spiritual significance." -Pitchfork
"Thrives on immediacy, placing Read's towering voice and open-hearted lyrics front-and-center." -Stereogum
"Sweet and melancholy" -The FADER"Emotional, personable and charmingly raw." -The Line Of Best Fit
