Underworld have announced details of the deluxe remastered re-release of their 1999 classic Beaucoup Fish (via Universal Music Catalogue) The album comes as a single CD, a 4 CD super deluxe box set and a double vinyl album. The album will also be available on all streaming and download platforms.
Hugely anticipated on release in the spring of 1999, Beaucoup Fish continued Underworld’s singular vision. From the opening Windy City meets Motor City meets Thames Estuary swoop of Cups through to the flickering low light coda of closing track Moaner, the eleven tracks on Beaucoup Fish collectively served to highlight just how different the wiring of Underworld’s internal logic is.
Whilst some of their peers had spawned lesser imitators, Underworld’s sound on Beaucoup Fish remained resolutely theirs. While many of the prevalent fragmented electronic styles of the day would be assimilated, the end result remained unique. If there had been a mould created when Rick Smith, Darren Emerson and Karl Hyde first made music together in the spare bedroom of a terrace house in Romford, it had long since been broken. There were no imitators. There never have been.
Beaucoup Fish features the singles Moaner, Push Upstairs, Jumbo, King of Snake and Bruce Lee. The deluxe edition’s second disc features eleven previously unreleased outtakes from the recording sessions. The third and fourth disc feature remixes of album tracks by the likes of Fatboy Slim, Slam, Salt City Orchestra and Adam Beyer.
The Beaucoup Fish super deluxe edition comes packaged in a hard case 12”x12” box that complements the acclaimed expanded reappraisals of dubnobasswithmyheadman (2014) and Second Toughest In The Infants(2015). This edition also includes a 60-page booklet with a new essay on the album. As with its predecessors, audio remastering was undertaken by the band’s Rick Smith at Abbey Road Studios. All packaging and artwork has been created by long time Underworld collaborators tomato.
Underworld – aka Karl Hyde and Rick Smith - recently presented an installation piece - Manchester Street Poem - as part of Manchester International Festival 2017. The project spotlighted the stories of those who’ve found themselves homeless in the city. Their last gig – a sold out show London’s Alexandra Palace – was the band’s biggest UK headline show to date.

Benjamin Gibbard, the frontman for Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service, has unveiled “BANDWAGONESQUE,” a full-length cover version of Teenage Fanclub’s classic 1991 album. Following its limited edition release as part of Turntable Kitchen’s “SOUNDS DELICIOUS” monthly vinyl subscription service, “BANDWAGONESQUE,” produced and performed by Gibbard, is now available digitally via Canvasback Music/ Turntable Kitchen HERE.
“BANDWAGONESQUE” was heralded by the first track, “The Concept,” which premiered exclusively via NPR Music here. “The singer's approachable warmth dovetails nicely with the idiosyncratic yet still airtight songcraft at the heart of the Big Star-loving Scottish power-pop band,” noted NPR of Gibbard’s take on the track.
"Turntable Kitchen approached me last summer about being part of their Sounds Delicious Vinyl series and I was excited about the idea of covering an album in its entirety.Bandwagonesque is my favorite record by my favorite band of all time. It came along at a pivotal time in my musical life and I've loved it for over 25 years. It's been such a blast taking these songs apart to see how they work and then putting them back together again,” says Gibbard.

Los Angeles songwriter/producer/artist Lawrence Rothman has announced his debut album The Book of Law due out October 13th via Downtown/Interscope Records. Produced by Justin Raisen (Sky Ferreira, Angel Olsen, Charli XCX, Health, Kim Gordon) along with producer YVES and Lawrence Rothman, the album features Marissa Nadler, Angel Olsen and Kristin Kontrol and some of the most unique factions of players seen contributing to one project like Carla Azar (Autolux), Pino Palladino (D'Angelo, NIN, The Who), Stella from Warpaint, Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses), Dennis Hamm (Thundercat) and How To Dress Well.
His first song off the album 'Wolves Still Cry' begins the journey through Lawrence's alters and features background vocals by How To Dress Well.
Two years in the making, the dark and triumphant album is an incredibly personal body of work about struggle and discovery of oneself.The project embodies the 9 physical & emotional alters of Lawrence - as if the Cindy Sherman of the music world with a different alters for every video (all directed by the revered director Floria Sigismondi (David Bowie, Björk, Marilyn Manson, Justin Timberlake, etc)).
Though multi instrumentalist Rothman played many of the instruments himself on the album he and Raisen were able to recruit the talents of Dennis Hamm (Thundercat, Flying Lotus) on piano, Pino Paladino and Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses) on bass along with Carla Azar (Autolux) and Stella Mozgawa (War Paint) on drums. He had no relationship with any of these musicians prior to the recording of the album. They were all cold called by Raisen after late night recording sessions by the two dreaming and lamenting on who would be best for certain songs.

New York, NY (July 27, 2017) - Coming almost four years after his album Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind) earned the best reviews of his career and his highest chart-placing in 20 years, the iconic and highly influential Gary Numan will release his 22nd album Savage (Songs From A Broken World) on September 15. Savage (Songs From A Broken World) is an album with a narrative that's set in an apocalyptic, post-global warming Earth in the not-too-distant future. There is no technology left and most of the planet has turned to a desolate desert wasteland. Food is scarce, water even more so and human kindness and decency are just a dim and distant memory. Western and Eastern cultures have merged, more because of the need to simply survive than any feelings of greater tolerance or understanding. It's a harsh, savage environment, as are the survivors who still roam across it.While Numan was writing the record, Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. It made sense to make him and his climate decisions the catalyst for the apocalypse theme of the album."The songs are about the things that people do in such a harsh and terrifying environment," explainsNuman. "It's about a desperate need to survive and they do awful things in order to do so, and some are haunted by what they've done. That desire to be forgiven, along with some discovered remnants of an old religious book, ultimately encourages religion to resurface, and it really goes downhill from there." The album was produced by long-term collaborator Ade Fenton, with recording sessions split between Numan's own studio in LA, and in the UK. Numan and Fenton's creative connection goes back to 2006's Jagged. "Ade is not only extremely creative but ridiculously hard working, even in difficult circumstances," says Numan. "It's easy to discuss alternative ideas with him, he's not precious about things and is always looking to make the music better, even if that means, on very rare occasions, undoing his own work and starting again." As the project took shape, Numan also set up a Pledge Music campaign to create an experience for fans that would let them see how an album was put together, from the first note to the finished shrink wrapped package. It was a strategy that brought Numan closer to his fans, and allowed him to communicate the blood, sweat and tears that goes into making a record. The campaign grew so successful that Numan consequently secured a record deal with BMG. The album has today been previewed with its first single "My Name Is Ruin." It's a menacing industrial march in which the unrelenting mechanized intensity is countered by the humanity of its sweet, swirling backing vocals which exude a palpable Egyptian influence. It's immediately captivating but brutally uncompromising: the sound of an artist eager to continue to push both himself and his audience almost four decades after presenting his initial sonic prototype. The accompanying video for the track was directed by visual artist and musician Chris Corner ofIAMX. Filmed in the desolate deserts of southern California, it features a special guest in the shape of Numan's 11-year-old daughter Persia who also contributes vocals to the track. With the foreboding setting and temperatures reaching 48ºC during the shoot, the stunning location was the perfect backdrop for an album that examines a world struggling for survival after the devastation of global warming.
