Diet Cig take over the offices of NPR Music for a Tiny Desk session

DIET CIG
NPR TINY DESK SESSION RELEASEDBAND PERFORMS 3 SONGS:  "SIXTEEN" + "TUMMY ACHE" + "HARVARD"
SEPTEMBER FALL TOUR INCLUDES HEADLINE SHOW AT NEW YORK CITY'S BOWERY BALLROOM SEPTEMBER 8
Diet Cig recently took their infectious and energetic show to the Washington, DC offices of NPR  for a Tiny Desk Session.  The band played 3 tracks -- "Sixteen" and "Tummy Ache" off their debut album  Swear I'm Good At This  and "Harvard," from the previously released EP  Over Easy .  Its no wonder that in June, when  NPR  asked their listeners who their favorite new artist of the year was (so far), the number 1 answer was Diet Cig.   Of today's Tiny Desk  NPR  said, "the high-energy blast that musicians often reserve for their finale is the starting point for Diet Cig. The band's boundless, leaping pop is exhilarating and pleasantly exhausting to watch, with drummer Noah Bowman propelling the high kicks and constant pogo bounce of guitarist and singer Alex Luciano."   Read the rest of the write-up here
Check it out Diet Cig's Tiny Desk Session here.
As previously announced, Diet Cig will be touring the US and Europe this fall with a headline show at New York City's Bowery Ballroom on September 8.  The full tour is listed below.
Since the release of Swear I'm Good At This Diet Cig - a duo of Alex Luciano (guitar and vocals) and Noah Bowman (drums) - have been playing to packed rooms across the US and Canada almost nightly.   The album has garnered world-wide critical acclaim and it showcases Diet Cig's tenacity for crafting life-affirming, relatable tales with a gutsy heart at their core. Luciano has the ability to write lyrics that are both vulnerable and badass, perfecting a storm of emotive reflection that creates a vision of a sweaty, pumped-up room screaming these lines in unison. Diet Cig make it okay to be the hot mess that you are.  The LP was produced, engineered and mixed by Christopher Daly at Salvation Recording Co. in New Paltz, NY with additional recording at Atomic Sound in New York City.
To date the band has released the singles "Barf Day," Tummy Ache" and "Link In Bio."

photo by: Daniel Dorsa"Swear I'm Good At This all adds up to a snapshot of a young songwriter navigating through the yearning and boredom, ambition and insecurity that accumulates along the rocky path from adolescence to adulthood. The power of Diet Cig comes from the way Luciano and Bowman bolster these themes with affirming positivity in the form of delightful, explosive anthems."   NPR
"Fantastic Fuzz-Pop Debut" --   Rolling Stone -- 4 stars!
"The best pop-punk uses sweetness as a decoy for angst, and Alex Luciano, the frontwoman of Diet Cig, has a piercingly saccharine voice that veers toward extreme sadness as she deploys it."  NY Times

"The delightfully titled 'Barf Day' (embodies) what makes the pair's upcoming debut Swear I'm Good At This so enthralling: the featherweight garage grit, Luciano's subversive sincerity, and bandmate Noah Bowman's fist-pumping percussion...Against all odds, Diet Cig are coming of age on their own terms."" - StereogumVocalist Alex Luciano brings a lighthearted innocence to ('Tummy Ache') singing criticisms of the patriarchy in the most charming way."  Nylon
"Swear I'm Good at This, (is) one of the most refreshingly fun albums of the year." Noisey
"Diet Cig's debut album driven by Alex Luciano, is one of the most effeminate, flippant, giggly and cute albums of the year - and that's part of what makes it so f*cking good."  Uproxx
"loud, blunt, and totally fun." Under The Radar
"(Diet Cig) make pop-punk that's simultaneously adorable and fierce...You can expect sing-along jawns that sound just as good at a sweaty Diet Cig show as they do when you're alone in your bedroom"  NY Daily News, "9 Albums Dropping in April You'd Be Foolish Not to Check Out"
"Swear I'm Good At This, is charismatic, balancing rage and rebellion with poppy lightness...Luciano breathes life and space into these traditionally closed-off feelings, and her twee pop voice will have listeners tapping their feet and leaning in for more."   Bust
"Diet Cig's music is playful, upbeat and addictive." Paste
"infectious indie-rock perfection"   NY Newsday

Filthy Friends (members of Sleater-Kinney and R.E.M.) release video for "Despierta"

Filthy Friends Release Video for “Despierta” Today Featuring Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney + Peter Buck of R.E.M. Watch + Share Video for “ Despierta ” Here Debut Album Invitation, Out August 25 via Kill Rock Stars Fall Tour Dates in Portland, LA, NYC and More
Filthy Friends have released of the video for their track “Despierta” via Pitchfork today. The track appears on their debut album  Invitation  out August 25 via Kill Rock Stars. Listen and share “Despierta” here and pre-order Invitation here.

Filthy Friends is the product of like-minded individuals with nothing to prove getting together and making a heroic racket together that finds space for their many influences and interests. Lead singer Corin Tucker has left an indelible mark on the punk scene through her memberships in Sleater-Kinney and Heavens to Betsy. Guitarist Kurt Bloch has logged a lot of hours as the leader of The Fastbacks, as well as serving as a producer/mentor for up and coming Seattle rock groups. Drummer Bill Rieflin has a fine day job as one of the musicians in King Crimson, he appears on the record but is no longer a touring member. Drummer Linda Pitmon (The Baseball Project, Steve Wynn & The Miracle 3) has joined the band as a permanent member. Bassist Scott McCaughey keeps plenty busy doing studio work and mining the power pop underground with his long-running band the Young Fresh Fellows. As for the other guitarist, Peter Buck has abandoned his position of Lord of the dance to play with Filthy Friends.

So far, the world has gotten to know Filthy Friends through a nicely scattershot batch of songs: “Despierta,” their entry into the anti-Trump project 30 Songs For 30 Days and the 2017 Record Store Day release featuring their original “Any Kind of Crowd” and a sinister take on Roxy Music’s “Editions of You.” Now this fierce collective is fanning the flames even hotter with the release of their debut full-length Invitation. Yes, it does slip their already released tracks into the mix, but what surrounds those tunes is oh so much more than you could have ever asked for.

The 12-song collection works through a flurry of different moods and styles, genre exercises and joyous experiments. The intricate guitar knots and blasts of bubblegum pop of Buck’s beloved Television are all over the herky-jerky “Windmill.” A mash-up of ‘60s downer vibes and rootsy rumblings makes up the marvelous “Second Life” whereas “Come Back Shelley” is all swagger and glitz in the style of a lost glam rock 45. There ain’t nothing this band can’t do with the wet clay of rock music and what they sculpt out of it is pure art.
 Tour Dates:
8/25 - Eugene, OR @ Hi Fi Music Hall w/ wimps
8/26 - Portland, OR @ Musicfest NW presents Project Pabst
8/29 - San Francisco, CA @ The Independent w/ Dressy Bessy

IO ECHO SIGNS TO SARGENT HOUSE & RETURNS WITH "HARM"

IO ECHO SHARES NEW SONG & VIDEO"HARM"

"HARM" CO-PRODUCED BY DOC MCKINNEY; OUT TODAY ON SARGENT HOUSE
WATCH THE VIDEO FOR "HARM" VIA NPR'S FIRST WATCH

Today marks the release of new single "Harm," Io Echo's first with new label and management home Sargent House (Deafheaven, Boris, Chelsea Wolfe, Russian Circles, etc). Ioanna Gika wrote and co-produced the track along with Leopold Ross and Doc McKinney (producer, The Weeknd).  Gika also directed the hauntingly eery video, premiering today on NPR. Gika speaks on the intensely personal song, saying "I was faced with a personal seismic shift. Several of my immediate family members died, including my father and stepfather, and my long term relationship disintegrated. My remaining family moved from Southeast Asia back to Greece to find it in economic disrepair, while the US slid towards political turmoil. I felt as though I was standing in the ocean in front of an inescapable wave. When there is no way out, no option, other than to brace yourself and let it hit and flow through you with its unstoppable tide. "Harm" was written during this time, and reflects the emotions and clarity that can come from facing a destructive situation head on."
Since their 2013 debut, Ministry of Love, Io Echo, fronted by Ioanna Gika and her main collaborator Leopold Ross, have performed with acts such as Nine Inch Nails, Garbage, Florence & the Machine, Haim, and New Order, composed an original score for the Louis Vuitton Fall Paris Collection and contributed to various soundtracks. Leopold co-composed HBO's  The Defiant Ones  and the Brian Wilson biopic,  Love And Mercy  while Ioanna contributed to Universal's Dracula and has features on new tracks by The Drums and TOKiMONSTA.
"Harm" is available now for stream / purchase via Sargent House - stay tuned for more music to come.
