Legendary artist and activist Joan Baez confirms first solo painting exhibition
LEGENDARY ARTIST AND ACTIVIST
JOAN BAEZ CONFIRMS FIRST SOLO PAINTING EXHIBITIONOPENS SEPTEMBER 1 AT THE BAY AREA’S SEAGER GRAY GALLERY
In her first solo painting exhibition, legendary artist and activist Joan Baez celebrates the “Mischief Makers”—portraits of people who have brought about social change through nonviolent action—the risk-taking visionaries. The exhibition runs from September 1 through October 1, 2017 at Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley, CA. A portion of the paintings’ sales will go to Carecen SF, an organization dedicated to assisting Latino and other immigrants, as well as under-resourced families in the San Francisco Bay Area. The cast of characters in the paintings, most of whom Baez has known personally, includeMartin Luther King Jr., Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi, Czech Velvet Revolution leaderVaclav Havel, Malala Yousafzai, Bob Dylan, Congressman John Lewis, farm worker heroine Dolores Huerta, folk legend and activist Harry Belafonte, poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou, spiritual leader Ram Dass, the Dalai Lama, Bread and Roses founder Mimi Fariña, civil rights leader Reverend William Barber, Vietnam draft resistance leader and author David Harris, and Native American medicine woman and activist MarilynYoungbird. She also includes a portrait of herself as a young woman and one of a young monk inspired by a portrait she saw during a trip to Vietnam.Baez has long nurtured a talent for painting and drawing that has blossomed over the last several years as she cuts back on her rigorous touring schedule and spends more and more time in the studio. “The choice of subjects for this, my first solo exhibit, comes as a reaction to the collapse of decency and moral standards which is currently being made obscenely evident in our government and its supporters,” says Baez. “In stark contrast, the ‘Mischief Makers’ are people who are willing to accept suffering, but never inflict it, to die for their cause, but never kill for it, and keep a sense of mischief through it all.”The debut exhibition comes during a landmark year for Baez, who was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In her induction speech Baez spoke out on social justice and equality proclaiming, “Let us together repeal and replace brutality and make compassion apriority.” Her speech lead into a moving performance of “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” followed by “Deportee (Plane Wreck At Los Gatos)” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” with longtime friends Mary Chapin Carpenter and Indigo Girls.Baez’s career has spanned over 50 years during which she unselfconsciously introduced Bob Dylan to the world in 1963, marched on the front lines of the Civil Rights movement with Martin Luther King Jr., inspired Vaclav Havel to fight for a Czech Republic and continues to this day to stand passionately on behalf of causes she embraces. She is the recipient of many honors including the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award as well as Amnesty International’s Ambassador of Conscience award. Her early albums introduced songs that found their way into the rock vernacular including “House Of the Rising Sun” (The Animals), “John Riley” (The Byrds) and “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You” (Led Zeppelin).

The Revolution: The Revolution rose to international fame in the mid 1980s with Purple Rain, the album sold more than 13 million copies in the United States alone. The band was one of the most successful music acts of the 1980s and sold over 16 million albums in the United States alone.[1] The band achieved two number-one Billboard 200 albums (Purple Rain and Around the World in a Day), six top ten singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and won three Grammy Awards. The band officially disbanded in 1986 at the end of the Parade tour. Since the sudden shocking death of their friend and musical mentor last April, the funk-rock- R&B band has remained mostly silent. All five members of the band have traveled through the terrible gamut of emotions since learning of Prince’s passing. Aside from three sold-out shows at the famous Minneapolis venue, First Avenue, the birthplace of Purple Rain, The Revolution has been quietly pondering its next steps.
tUnE-yArDs: Experimentation is still key for tUnE-yArDs. Where the loop pedal and the saxophone were main components of the first and second record respectively, it’s the drum that takes center stage here, augmented by greater use of synth and Nate’s growing prowess as a bassist. She also decided to launch her third album with a homemade ‘MegaMix’ of the record, posting it to her fans online on her birthday; "I've put together a mash-up so you can get a tiny taste. We can’t wait to play this music for you. Thanks for all your support and patience while we cooked this chicken!".
Charles Bradley & his Extraordinaires: Charles Bradley has made a name for himself as a riveting live performer and was named to the top spot on Paste Magazine’s Best Live Acts of 2015. He has taken his show to venues and festivals across the globe including Coachella, Glastonbury Festival and Primavera Sound. The Brooklyn-based 68-year old released his third album Changes in 2016 via Daptone Records, which was included in numerous “best of” lists, including MOJO, Paste and Rough Trade. Bradley returned recently to the stage after successfully completing treatment for stomach cancer. His 2017 performance at Governors Ball was called one of the “10 best sets” by the New York Times.

Although
Twin Peaks: The Return
has hosted an array of Roadhouse performers and spotlighted music throughout its new season, a large part of the show’s sonic identity has been defined by the space between sound effects and music. Sound and music supervisor Dean Hurley’s first installment of the library-style
Anthology Resource
series showcases his original sound design and music compositions featured in the show’s very distinctive-sounding third season.
From ethereal tones to sputtering electricity to densely brooding musical cues, this release operates as an unofficial ambient score to Twin Peaks, offering a more abstract counterpoint to the show’s official soundtrack and score. (You might also remember Hurley as the drummer from the fictitious band Trouble, alongside Alex Zhang Hungtai of Dirty Beaches, and David Lynch’s son Riley, who performed at the Roadhouse in 'Part 5' of The Return.)Sound and music supervisor Dean Hurley has operated David Lynch’s Asymmetrical Studio for the past 12 years, collaborating extensively with Lynch on a myriad of his film, commercial, and music-based projects. In addition to his sound and music supervision for both Inland Empire and Twin Peaks: The Return, Hurley co-wrote and produced four full-length LPs with Lynch: The Air is on Fire (2007), This Train (2011), Crazy Clown Time (2011), and The Big Dream (2013). Hurley’s music production has also extended to artists like Lykke Li, Dirty Beaches, Zola Jesus, and The Veils.

Nina Nesbitt Reaches More Than 1 Million Streams For New Single. Drops "The Moment's I'm Missing" Stripped Version

1 MILLION STREAMS
REVEALS STRIPPED BACK RENDITION OF
"THE MOMENTS I’M MISSING"

"THE MOMENTS I'M MISSING" (STRIPPED)
Nina Nesbitt reveals a breathtaking, stripped back rendition of her new single ‘The Moments I’m Missing’. The new version of the single follows the release of the original -- which has now surpassed the ONE MILLION MARK in STREAMS -- along with the announcement that Nina will play an exclusive underplay show at London's Camden Assembly on August 15th, which sold out in five minutes. Listen to the new version of "The Moments I’m Missing" HERE.
Self-written and produced, "The Moments I’m Missing" is Nina’s most heartfelt work to date, drawing on the turbulent experience of surviving in the music industry as a young woman to paint a deeply personal portrait of her life. Adopting a candid, autobiographical lyricism, Nina laments, “And then I was signed, and falling in love for the very first time / But that fucked me up, so then I had issues with falling in love,” offering her devout legion of fans a glimpse of life in the limelight. Set to simple yet impactful piano, the stripped back version cuts even deeper than the gorgeous original, showcasing the versatility of Nina’s talent.
Speaking about the track, Nina says: “I went home from a session for someone else and I wanted to write a song nobody else could sing but me. I loved how rappers or R&B artists talked about their lives and I wanted to find the singer-songwriter version of that. It's not about missing as in longing; it's about the moments I'm missing from my brain. It's about recollecting.”
Since the release of her debut, Top 15 album "Peroxide" in 2014, Nina has undergone a total artistic evolution, swapping sugary-sweet pop melodies for raw, poignant explorations of her own identity, embodying the artist she has always wanted to be.

New Album Darling Destroyer Out Now
Austin’s Leopold and His Fiction have released the video for their song “Who Am I” today via American Songwriter . The track appears on their fourth studio album, Darling Destroyer , out now on ILA Music. Watch and share the video here.
Frontman Daniel Leopold tells American Songwriter about the inspiration behind the track: “Who am I? As apparent in the song title. Lost in a sea of self -doubt and of furtive self-analysis of where we might fit in, pitted against those you thought we're on your side. Who am I to burden myself with other people's demands? Who am I to care why people are they way they are? When people make their selfishness apparent and therein no getting out harms way, cut them out. Because, Who am I to change some one for my benefit? Who am I, if anyone at all?”
Leopold and His Fiction are currently on tour supporting Bush and She Wants Revenge, with upcoming dates in with upcoming dates in Philadelphia, New York City, Boston and more. See complete tour dates below.
For their fourth studio album, Darling Destroyer lead singer Daniel credits his Detroit heritage for the musical influence. “I hear my upbringing in this album more than anything I’ve ever done in my life,” Daniel says. “The songs were telling me, ‘This is what you’re made of, so trust it.’” Equally rooted in dingy garage punk and Motown’s pop-minded R&B, Darling Destroyer burns with a frenzied intensity true to its emotional origins.

Throughout Darling Destroyer, Leopold and His Fiction reveal their gritty ingenuity by merging delicately crafted lyrics with blistering guitar work. Co-produced by Daniel, Vance Powell and Chris “Frenchie” Smith (...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Ringo Deathstarr, Jet), Darling Destroyer proves Daniel’s easy prowess as a frontman, his vocals endlessly shifting from brutal wail to tender serenade. That unhinged yet nuanced performance reaches a glorious peak on “I’m Caving In,” which Daniel initially penned as a country song but eventually twisted into a heart-stopping blues number.
