CUT COPY'S NEW ALBUM, 'HAIKU FROM ZERO,' SET FOR SEPTEMBER 22 RELEASE ON ASTRALWERKS

CUT COPY'S NEW ALBUM,HAIKU FROM ZERO, SET FOR SEPTEMBER 22 RELEASE ON ASTRALWERKS Album Pre-Order Launches Today Cut Copy Announces Fall North American Headline Tour Stream New Single, "Standing In The Middle Of The Field," HERE Haiku From Zero,  Cut Copy's first proper studio album in nearly four years and first for Astralwerks - will be released on September 22. Today, the band unveiled the second single from the album, "Standing in the Middle of the Field." Amid a backdrop of loping kalimbas, cowbells and bubbly synths, lead singer Dan Whitford's plaintive voice offers some emotional advice: "You gotta give up the things you love to make it better." The song announces a theme that percolates throughout  Haiku From Zero - the need to cut through the noise, a desire to focus. Listen to "Standing in the Middle of the Field" HERE . "So much of this album is about this mosaic of information, images that we're surrounded by on a day-to-day basis," says Dan Whitford. "Sometimes it feels like overload, but there's a weird random beauty in it. The idea of squeezing poetry from chaos was where the title of the album came from - the idea of finding something poetic in the overload."  Haiku From Zero  is available for pre-order in digital, CD and LP format  HERE . Fans who pre-order the digital album will instantly receive the first single, "Airborne,"plus "Standing in the Middle of the Field." See below for the complete track listing. A 7" of "Standing in the Middle of the Field" featuring an exclusive b-side will be available to those who pre-order the vinyl edition of  Haiku From Zero  at select U.S. record stores. The list of participating stores will be announced shortly. In addition, today Cut Copy have announced a North American headline tour, which will kick off on November 9 at The Catalyst Club in Santa Cruz, CA. The run will include a November 11 concert at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles and a November 24 show at Terminal 5 in New York City. See below for itinerary. A fan pre-sale for the Cut Copy mailing list begins today at 1 PM ET/10 AM PT. Tickets go on sale to the general public tomorrow, August 11, at 10 AM local time at http://cutcopy.net/tour/Cut Copy will also perform at several U.S. festivals this fall, including Luna Lights, CRSSD and Austin City Limits. Written and recorded at studios around the world (Melbourne, Copenhagen, Washington, DC, New York, Atlanta), the nine tracks on  Haiku From Zero  nonetheless present a united sonic front, due in no small part to the guiding ear of producer Ben Allen (Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Neon Indian). Songs like "Counting Down" and "Living Upside Down" offer glimpses of beauty in a state of disco-fueled flux.  "Airborne" met with widespread critical acclaim upon its release last month. Noisey said, "It is classy as shit, and it's definitely a 'match your steps to the tempo of the song as you walk down the street' kind of jam." Stereogum hailed it as "a disco-pop odyssey that sounds like, well, soaring through the sky, before eventually blasting off into psychedelic bliss." Consequence of Sound praised the accompanying video, directed byGerson Aguerri (The Vaccines, Breakbot) of the Barcelona-based production company CANADA, as "magical." Paste Magazine found it "wildly imaginative" and noted, "[it]follows frontman Dan Whitford as a trek for a late-night munch leads him down a surreal rabbit-hole filled with otherworldly characters and bizarre street views." View the official video for "Airborne"  HERE . Initially a bedroom recording project by Whitford, Cut Copy evolved into a full-fledged band with guitarist Tim Hoey, drummer Mitchell Scott, and bass player Ben Browning. The quartet's studio albums include In Ghost Colours, which Pitchfork named as one of the best albums of 2008 and among the top albums of the 2000s, and2011's Zonoscope, which won two ARIA Awards and was nominated for a GRAMMY. The band's songs have been licensed for use in television, games and commercials, including Chevrolet, Netflix, Amazon and Levi's® #LiveinLevis campaign. DJing and mixes have also been a big part of Cut Copy's identity - from the band's famed Fabric mix, Fabriclive.29, to the 2014 Melbourne dance compilation, Oceans Apart. In addition to headlining massive sold-out shows, the band has gained prime slots at prestigious festivals such as Coachella, Ultra and Lollapalooza in the U.S.; Primavera in Spain, Pitchfork in Paris; Summer Sonic in Japan; and Big Day Out in Australia.

RAINER MARIA DEBUT NEW ALBUM S/TSTREAMING IN FULL VIA NPR MUSIC’S FIRST LISTEN
S/T OUT FRIDAY, AUGUST 18TH ON POLYVINYL RECORDS
TOURING ACROSS THE US AND CANADA THIS FALL
“[S/T] is an absolute monster, an album that bursts with strength and conviction and enormous melodies.” - Stereogum
“...as emotionally charged and beautifully intense as ever.” - Paste
“...familiar enough for those who’ve missed the band dearly, but fresh enough to tread new ground.” - NPR MusicPhoto Credit: Shawn Brackbill (Download)
Polyvinyl Records and Rainer Maria are thrilled to share their new album, S/T, out Friday, August 18th across all digital platforms. Today, you can stream the record in full via NPR Music’s First Listen, who write that S/T “functions as a natural extension of Rainer Maria's discography, while staying true to its members' accumulated wisdom and insight.” Last week, the band released the record’s third single, “Forest Mattress,” which Stereogum lauded as a “grand, heartfelt burner.” S/T marks the band’s first release in over a decade and has already won early praise from the likes of The New York Times, Paste, AV Club, SPIN, Salon, Fast Company, and more. Rainer Maria will be touring across the US and Canada this fall, which also marks their first full set of live dates in over a decade. All upcoming tour dates are listed below.

During the summer of 1995, Kaia Fischer, William Kuehn, and Caithlin De Marrais, collectively Rainer Maria, were getting their start as a band in the idealistic confines of Madison, WI, and the fertile incubator that was the Midwest’s ‘90s indie rock scene. A self-titled EP released in 1996 would be followed by signing to the then nascent Polyvinyl Records as a cornerstone for the label. Playing countless basement shows and rock clubs across the country, the band cemented themselves as early ambassadors of the midwest indie rock scene now so revered by later day musicians and fans. In 1999 they moved to New York City, and throughout the first half of the aughts, Rainer Maria would release three more full-length albums. Evolving their sound as they tightened their craft, the band continued to hit the road with opening acts ranging from Ted Leo and Rilo Kiley to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs before deciding to explore other avenues on their own.
De Marrais moved out of the City, releasing two well-regarded solo records of intricate, meticulously crafted pop. Kuehn spent time living in Syria and Yemen, studying and playing music with a variety of artists with all sorts of different approaches and ideas. Fischer studied Tibetan language and Tibetan Buddhism at Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University, a journey that brought her into a traditional-style Tibetan apprenticeship and eventually to living in Asia. (During this time, she also came out as a trans person.) A decade later they found themselves writing and recording together again. Guided by their shared history as songwriters, and buoyed by their recent adventures and explorations in music and life as individuals, S/T fits like well worn boots with the spring of new soles.
The lyrics are full of natural imagery, influenced by the more pastoral setting outside De Marrais’ window—soil and greenery, weather patterns, and other markers of country life. While sonically, S/T retains and even amplifies the core grit and vigor that Rainer Maria has always had as a band. The album also benefits mightily from Kuehn’s hand at production, his first time doing so for a Rainer Maria release. His bandmates implicit trust in him is a guiding force allowing each song to take on its own distinct life without losing a sense of overall cohesion.

Spoon’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga 10th Anniversary Reissue set for October 20 release

“With Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, Spoon have once again found a gray area between the poles of pop accessibility and untested studio theorizing, modifying a formula that has grown to feel familiar even as it wanders, and refusing to square the circle while doing so.” —Pitchfork“…an indie-rock album that sounds mysterious without being diffident or difficult, without piling on the noise or retreating into whimsy.” —New York Times“Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga was a creative leap forward that, at its best, placed Daniel’s vocals in a warm Motown-influenced frame. The message located on the inner artwork—‘This Records is a Hit’—turned out to be funny and true.” —Entertainment Weekly“The tug-of-war between bristly unavailability and candid confession mirrors a musical duet between post-punk snarls and genial pop charms. There's no resolution, but the struggle is endlessly compelling.” —Spin
To celebrate its ten years of existence, Merge has announced a double vinyl reissue of Spoon’s indispensable album  Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga . Remastered by Howie Weinberg, it features the studio album on one LP and the 12-track Get Nice! EP—previously available only as a bonus CD—on the other, both packaged in a gatefold jacket with updated art. The reissue will be in stores on October 20; pre-order it now in the Merge store, bundled with a t-shirt featuring the prophecy found on the album’s center label.

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga was recorded throughout 2006 in Austin, TX, by the band and Mike McCarthy (except “The Underdog” which was recorded in Los Angeles with Jon Brion). Starting with “Don’t Make Me a Target,” a song that builds on Spoon’s familiar minimal rhythmic piano/guitar vamp popularized on earlier hits, the album quickly moves into uncharted territory with the atmospheric “The Ghost of You Lingers” and moves through several different stylistic changes from the, er, explosive “You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb” to the wall-of-sound horns of radio single “The Underdog.” Upon release, critics and listeners alike praised the record, which subsequently received Best New Music status from Pitchfork and cracked the top 10 of Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of 2007.

This Record is a Hit, as recently restated by Stereogum’s Pranav Trewn: “Every song onGa Ga Ga Ga Ga sounds like instant canon, as though these were established classics from a previous era that you’ve only heard about but hadn’t actually heard yourself.” Revisit Spoon’s performances of “The Underdog” and “You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb” on SNL, and pre-order the 10th anniversary reissue of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga today.

Bruce Springsteen: "Springsteen on Broadway" Solo Run at New York's Walter Kerr Theatre Set for Fall 2017

Bruce Springsteen: "Springsteen on Broadway" Solo Run at New York's Walter Kerr Theatre Set for Fall 2017
Bruce Springsteen will make his Broadway debut this fall with “Springsteen on Broadway,” a solo show at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street). Performances for "Springsteen on Broadway" begin Tuesday, October 3, with an official opening on Thursday, October 12. Springsteen will perform five shows a week through November 26th.

Tickets for “Springsteen on Broadway” will go on sale August 30 at 10am ET exclusively through Ticketmaster Verified Fan®. This unique fan-first technology levels the playing field to combat bots and get real tickets into the hands of fans who intend to go to the event.

Ticketmaster Verified Fan registration begins today and will close August 27. Verified fans will be notified August 29 for the August 30 onsale. Visit brucespringsteen.net/broadway for more information about how to pre-register.

“I wanted to do some shows that were as personal and as intimate as possible. I chose Broadway for this project because it has the beautiful old theaters which seemed like the right setting for what I have in mind. In fact, with one or two exceptions, the 960 seats of the Walter Kerr Theatre is probably the smallest venue I’ve played in the last 40 years. My show is just me, the guitar, the piano and the words and music. Some of the show is spoken, some of it is sung. It loosely follows the arc of my life and my work. All of it together is in pursuit of my constant goal to provide an entertaining evening and to communicate something of value,” says Springsteen.

"Bruce Springsteen is one of our greatest musical storytellers, and Broadway is built on a beloved tradition of musical storytelling. What a once-in-a lifetime thrill for all of us at Jujamcyn to welcome Bruce home to his rightful place in the Broadway legacy,” says Jordan Roth, President of Jujamcyn Theaters, which owns the Walter Kerr.

The creative team for “Springsteen on Broadway” includes Heather Wolensky (scenic design), Natasha Katz (lighting design) and Brian Ronan (sound design).

Bruce Springsteen’s recording career spans over 40 years, beginning with 1973's ‘Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ’ (Columbia Records). He has released 18 studio albums, garnered 20 Grammys, won an Oscar, been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, received a Kennedy Center Honor, and was MusiCares’ 2013 Person of the Year. Springsteen’s memoir ‘Born to Run’ (Simon & Schuster) and its companion album ‘Chapter and Verse’ were released in September 2016, and he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in November last year. Springsteen’s The River Tour 2016 was named the year’s top global tour by both Billboard and Pollstar. ‘Born to Run’ will be issued in paperback by Simon & Schuster on September 5.

The Clientele wax nostalgic on Super 8 film for their “Everyone You Meet” music video

Today, The Clientele are sharing a music video for “Everyone You Meet” off their forthcoming album  Music for the Age of Miracles , out September 22 in North America on Merge. It’s their first music video since “Bookshop Casanova” from 2007’s God Save the Clientele and finds the London trio crisscrossing through their hometown streets and parks on filter-free, real-deal film.

Watch & share the music video for "Everyone You Meet" by The Clientele now
Director Paul Kelly on the film format of choice:
I still have the original Super 8 cameras that I used when I first began shooting music promos in the 1980s, although I had no idea if they still worked and, as we didn’t have the time or budget to get them serviced, just took a chance and hoped for the best.
Apart from its aesthetic charm, the original reason I began shooting on Super 8 was its (then) low cost, but with digital filming now effectively free, Super 8 seems quite an exotic choice. It is not cheap, and the sound of the camera motor is a constant reminder of the cash running through the shutter. There are various filters and effects that can mimic a filmic look, but there is no substitute for the real thing.
Having shot all ten film cartridges, there was a slightly anxious two-week wait to see if anything had actually come out, and with the deadline looming, I began to form a digital back-up plan just in case! I still get a sense of amazement whenever I see film rushes; it seems miraculous that the process actually works at all.
The Clientele’s Alasdair MacLean:
We knew Paul had filmed the Lea Valley in [Saint Etienne’s short film] What Have You Done Today Mervyn Day? and that he was interested in forgotten parts of London. We asked him to make the North Circular ring road and the buildings and streets around our way—New Southgate, N11—look beautiful. Which, amazingly, he did. He captured the North Circular vernacular and hung out with us in some of our favourite places, beginning with a couple of epic walks along the A406 ring road in the pouring rain.
Pre-order Music for the Age of Miracles in the Merge store on CD and LP, where you can bundle it with an exclusive t-shirt, or via these digital music providers.
The Clientele return to North America for their first shows since 2014. Check out the full list of dates below and get your tickets today!
