QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE“THE WAY YOU USED TO DO” VIDEOALL HELLZAPOPPIN’ BREAKS LOOSE IN SATANIC DANCE PRODUCTIONWRITTEN BY JOSHUA HOMME & DIRECTED BY JONAS AKERLUNDPREVIEW NOW: http://mat-r.co/QOTSA_PreviewFULL VIDEO AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY AT http://mat-r.co/QOTSA_Video
“Dancing and headbanging are truly individualistic expressions of losing oneself fully in appreciation of music—who better to combine these things into a singular vision than someone who’s directed Madonna and Lady Gaga videos–and also happens to have been a member of Bathory?”—Joshua Homme“The Way You Used To Do,” the recently released first single from Queens Of The Stone Age’s ominously approaching seventh albumVillains, has been realized as a fever dream Satanic dance ritual extravaganza—featuring QOTSA founder and frontman Joshua Homme lighter on his feet and darker in his soul than ever before.Conceived by Joshua Homme, directed by Jonas Akerlund and produced by Serial Pictures, “The Way You Used To Do,” somehow fit its multiple sets, wardrobe changes and intricate dance routines into one day of shooting August 8th in Los Angeles. Considering potential reactions to the sinister shuffle of “The Way We Used To Do” being translated into a panoramic soul-selling dance trip, Homme says “It’s our way of paying tribute to Cab Calloway and the film Hellzapoppin’. I fully realize that may be a little more than some are open to, and that’s perfectly fine with me. There’s the door. If some of the more close-minded are gently pruned, that just leaves more room on the dance floor for the open-minded ones to get loose. That’s been the spirit of Queens Of The Stone Age and the space we’ve worked to create from day one.”With recently released second track “The Evil Has Landed” hailed by Rolling Stone as “a sprawling and diabolical new rocker” featuring “Homme singing in a falsetto that sounds both sweet and sinister,”Villains was co-produced by Mark Ronson and will be released August 25th on Matador Records. The album is available now for pre-order at http://smarturl.it/Villains.The colossal Villains tour begins September 6th with a sold out show in Port Chester NY and will see the Queens playing directly before Foo Fighters and alongside Cage The Elephant, The Kills, Liam Gallagher, Japandroids and more at the massive Cal Jam 17 October 7th at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernadino, CA. Tickets for the headline dates—which feature support from Royal Blood–are available at http://smarturl.it/QOTSALive.Queens Of The Stone Age is Joshua Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, Michael Shuman and Jon Theodore.QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE

Tera Melos launch an extensive North American headlining tour with Speedy Ortiz supporting in October. Please see current dates below.
Trash Generator, the trio's third full length, is an astonishing blast of confidence and rejuvenation. It sounds as if the 4-year downtime since their last album has recharged the band with an entirely new sense of purpose. The performances are brilliant and sharp, the songs concise yet intricately detailed, and the album production deftly captures the band's strength as a live unit. Their dalliances with mellower psychedelic phrases on their previous two albums, X'ed Out (2013) and Patagonian Rats(2010) are significantly trimmed and instead utilized as colorations within a swirling maelstrom of righteous aggro punk-jazz abandon. As such, it sounds like Tera Melos has fully metabolized their pop tendencies and found a way they can coexist with the band's iconoclast origins. Tera Melos -- guitarist/vocalist Nick Reinhart, bassist Nathan Latona and drummer John Clardy -- have learned to stop worrying and just be Tera Melos.
Perhaps to understand Trash Generator, we must look at the situations leading up to it...
"We toured consistently for 19 months after X'ed Out was released in 2013," Latona explains. "We did two full US headliners, four full US support tours, a Japanese tour, a month in Europe, and a run of shows in the UK and Ireland. When we finished, we were pretty exhausted and frustrated." It had seemed that after all of that work, not much had changed for the band. Tera Melos took a short holiday break, which eventually turned into two years as each of them pursued other interests. "I found myself at ease with the idea of not worrying about ticket sales, strategic tours, units moved, likes, clicks, views, and the short-fused moodiness of living in a van with two other people," Latona says. In that downtime, Reinhart remained active in multiple endeavors: contributing guitar to Death Grips' The Powers That B and Bottomless Pit albums + the I.L.Y.'s (Zach Hill and Andy Morin's other band), Big Walnuts Yonder (with Mike Watt, Nels Cline and Greg Saunier), Goblin Cock,Portugal.the man and many others. Latona completed a college degree he'd put off for 11 years. Clardy became and integral faculty member at the School of Rock in Dallas/Ft. Worth, inspiring young musicians with his real-world approach to learning music.
For every touring band there's a subtle pressure -- from fans, industry, promoters, family -- that the band is supposed to be on a constantly rising trajectory of success. Regardless of the group's own potentially esoteric goals, if you're not reaching for the "next level" at every turn, you're supposedly not doing it right. Tera Melos thought long and hard about it, and said, "fuck it."
"Wth this record it was 100% let's not concern ourselves with what we should be doing at this point in the band's lifespan, and just fully focus on what makes us happy," Reinhart says. "Making a new record seemed like a fun act of defiance," Latona adds. "The odds are against bands like us, but despite all the negativity involved in trying to struggle and survive as an artist, we made Trash Generator because we just wanted to get together, have some fun, and make something that we think is cool."
The trio decamped to San Diego in late 2016 to record at Singing Serpent Studios with Ben Moore (Hot Snakes, Pinback). It was their first time recording in a continuous block of time, rather than the piecemeal stealth late night sessions at friends' studios of previous efforts. It gave the band a razor-sharp focus atop of their beholden-to-none attitude. "We stayed in a spare place at Rob Crow's house which had a barracks kind of feel to it," Clardy explains. "We'd come home exhausted each day and fall asleep within an hour. It was very spartan when away from the studio." That mindset clearly informs the direct, in-your-face energy of Trash Generator.
Trash Generator will be available everywhere August 25th, 2017 on LP, CD, click, like and download via Sargent House. Pre-orders for LP/CD via HelloMerch and download via iTunes .

On 3rd November Tona Serenad records present This Forgotten Land by Matti Bye – one of Sweden’s most sought-after film composers, who also gained worldwide praise for his collaborative album with Anna von Hausswolff, Hydra’s Dream.
This Forgotten Land offers a deeply atmospheric, affecting experience, seeped in nostalgia and yet thrillingly contemporary. At its heart lie profoundly emotive, luminous melodies as substantial as the equipment that he uses to capture them, as Bye’s world is definitely an analogue one.
While its instrumental style might be said to share characteristics with the likes of Hauschka and Yann Tiersen, it also, like them, occupies its own unique musical universe, at once elegant and eerie.
Opening track Melt provides a clear indication of what’s to come, with its muffled tones, distant bells and a subdued sense of foreboding. At other times – such as on Underneath The Silence – one can hear the influence of Debussy, and scattered throughout are hints, too, of Satie and Chopin at their most tranquil. On Absence, the creaking of Bye’s keyboard pedals is intrinsic to the atmosphere of his rippling, Southern European melody, while Into The Haze and Cascading Sun – with Leo Svensson’s haunting musical saw – and Empty Streets / Piano Street reveal his affection for circus music and other archaic styles. Bye speaks fondly of “the strange, romantic mood you get when you hear old merry go rounds, or mechanical instruments in small amusements parks, and abandoned places like Coney Island,” and the strange, incongruous sounds sometimes audible in the background are as essential to his compositions as the flutter of a film projector when watching an old film. In fact, though it’s very distinct, This Forgotten Land succeeds in conjuring up an idiosyncratic ambience whose power is similar to that of another of his great inspirations, Tom Waits’ Swordfishtrombones, albeit long after the greasepaint has been removed and the bars have emptied out.
Though Sweden’s Matti Bye was born in 1966, it sometimes seems as though the renowned musician and film soundtrack composer has spent his entire existence living in a different era. As a child, when he wasn’t passionately consuming literature, poetry, Schubert, Mozart, and avidly practising the piano – which he studied with an old Russian teacher – or dreaming of travelling the world in a horse-drawn caravan, he could be found in his local cinema in front of old black and white Tarzan films. These days, too, if you visit the old garage which doubles as his studio, you’ll find yourself surrounded by antique instruments: lurking alongside his collection of analogue synths are pianos, a celesta, a Mellotron, a Wurlitzer, a harpsichord, a Hammond organ, a Vibraphonette and tubular bells. Both Bye and his latest solo album seem to exist outside of time itself.
Until now, Bye has been best known as one of Sweden’s most prominent film composers, working on scores not only for contemporary but also vintage silent movies. In 2014 he received two of the three nominations for Best Original Music Award at Sweden’s prestigious Guldbaggen: his soundtrack for Faro took the honour (as well as a Nordic Film Music Prize) ahead of his work for The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window And Disappeared. He’s also provided new music for Victor Sjöström’s seminal horror The Phantom Carriage (1921) and The Saga of Gosta Berling (1924), a landmark melodrama starring Greta Garbo. He’s recorded a number of solo works, too, not least 2010’s Drömt and 2013’sBethanien, the latter inspired by a two-year sojourn in Berlin working in Kreuzberg’s cultural centre of the same name, once a hospital of suitably grim repute. Collaborations with other musicians include the aforementioned Anna Von Hausswolff, and Maailma with cult Finnish songwriter Lau Nau. Another forthcoming project of note is Matti’s score to ‘Superswede’, the biopic of Swedish F1 racing legend Ronnie Peterson, which premieres in Stockholm on Monday August 14th and is on international release from Friday August 18th.
Bye was brought up by his mother, renowned Swedish actress Birgitta Andersson, while his father was Norwegian playwright Anders Bye. “I remember he once said, if you play an instrument you’ll never be alone,” Bye recalls. “That made a big impact on me.” Bye tried learning other instruments – violin, clarinet, contrabass – but it was always the piano to which he returned. “Nothing could compare,” he reminisces. “I wanted to sleep near my old piano. It was like a friend, if not so verbal, but still very communicative.” His professional ‘career’ began early on, but his first experience of providing a full score – when he was invited by his school’s Anarchist Club to accompany a screening of Battleship Potemkin – was less than successful. “The performance was terrifying, because I’d never improvised before,” he says. “But the thing was, even if it was a nightmare, after I’d tried it evoked a grand feeling of freedom! I’d got a taste of something I wanted to explore.”
When he was 20, Stockholm’s celebrated Cinematheque contacted Bye about performing again, and he couldn’t resist the opportunity to improve upon his debut. “Silent film music was like a blank spot on the music map, but I recognised the freedom I’d have as a musician, and the force of the poetry in these forgotten images. To play piano for these films was like a dream. So I started my own ‘university’ in the cinema, improvising directly in front of the film screen, trying new pieces and styles in front of a live audience. The beauty is that you feel the past through these beautiful films,” he says of the style that gradually developed in this environment, “but through the music you can add a new layer of something contemporary too.” As his reputation spread, Bye recognised that, thanks to the diversity of his interests, he’d stumbled on a singularly romantic style. “I started out as a piano improviser,” he says, “and suddenly I realised I was composing, and that I’m a composer.”
By the late 1990s, Bye had progressed from silent films to composing for new ones, including documentaries. His own, parallel recordings, compositions, collaborations and solo concerts followed soon after. “Sometimes material I haven’t used in a film starts to form a record, or I make a record that ends up in a film,” he explains, and there is indeed an obviousfil rouge through all his compositions: the instruments with which he works, often employed in an idiosyncratic manner. “I always search for pianos with a unique character,” he says. “I love to play them in special environments outside, in an abandoned place or a flat somewhere. I try to record the moment. The best pieces I create start with an instrument that has flaws or weaknesses. It’s like exploring the voice of various distinct personalities.”
Three decades on from that revelatory experience at Cinematheque, This Forgotten Land looks set to expand Bye’s reach. Peculiarly otherworldly, serenely haunting, and utterly unforgettable, its melodies linger long after its conclusion, their atmosphere a magical mist that can never quite be apprehended. Out of time, but just in time, it confirms Matti Bye as a vital composer of visionary, cinematic scope. This Forgotten Land will endure, in fact, because it sounds like it’s always been among us.

The band says, "'Son of a Lady' is a song we wrote and recorded some time ago and rediscovered it recently by chance. We worked with this really great upright bass player Damon Anderson who we'd never worked with before and I believe it was the first time he'd ever played his bass over a cello part. He was really inspired by Ji-Young Moon's exquisite playing. It's a strange and lovely one; just the way we like it."

BAND TO PLAY "MOURNING SOUND" ON THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT ON THURSDAY 8/17, THEIR LATE NIGHT DEBUT FOR NEW ALBUM
"MOURNING SOUND" TOP 15 AT AAA RADIOGrizzly Bear has released a new video for their song "Mourning Sound," the lead single from their forthcoming album 'Painted Ruins,' out this Friday, 8/18 via RCA Records. Directed by Beatrice Pegard and filmed in Paris, the video features Clemence Poesy (Harry Potter, In Bruges, 127 Hours) and is a playful, pastel-drenched commentary on women's liberation. The band will perform "Mourning Sound" on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert this Thursday, 8/17, their late night debut for the new record. The song is currently in the top 15 at AAA radio.
'Painted Ruins' has earned widespread early praise from the New York Times, NPR Music and SPIN, who declared, "Grizzly Bear strike gold." Esquire called 'Painted Ruins' "their most mature album yet," Rolling Stone dubbed the music "ornate" and "spellbinding," and in their 9/10 review, Under the Radar said, "the album is the sound of a band cohering as never before with a formidable swagger." The album has earned 4/5 stars from Mojo and Q Magazine and 9/10 stars from Clash and Uncut, and Paste Quarterly declared, "Grizzly Bear made an album for the times: something wild and alive, bucking assumptions and beaming color, their best yet."
