PRE-ORDER NOW Sketches Of Brunswick East is a soothing balm of a record; an aural salve to be tenderly applied to the world’s damaged collective psyche. It is a chance to show their sunny, playful side. Where previous albums have slipped down sonic worm-holes to explore distant galaxies, this one is an examination of (and homage to) the Melbourne suburb in which King Gizzard write and record in their own studio, and from where they run their planet- spanning psychedelic operation.“I think we hit it off because our approaches are very different...yet similar. We always talked about working together and after Gizzfest last year I said to Alex [Brettin, of Mild High Club] ‘Why not stick around and make a record?’ So he stayed at my house for three weeks and most days were spent in the studio making music with the rest of the guys. Jazz seeped into it, and we were listening to compilations of Ethiopian music from the 1960s and 70s a lot. It was in no way thought-out though. If Murder Of The Universe was our most conceptual and arranged album - then Sketches... is the exact opposite.”  - Stu Mackenzie, KGATLWThe title could be perceived as both a knowing nod towards Miles Davis’s Sketches Of Spain (whose fusion of American jazz, European classical and Spanish song structures gave us one of the 20th century’s most important albums), and the sketchy on-the-hop, improvised nature of its creation by these gnarly and feral Aussie dudes. It also sees the band further exploring the Tropicalia element only ever previously hinted at. Stu explains that a change of pace and tempo was necessary after “a concurrent period of productivity, a ball of energy and ideas”. Logistically, its creation saw the sifting through “piles of ideas” previously laid down during intense periods of creation that their frontman confesses he barely remembers having taken place. Truly this is impulsive music, sketches of time and place reworked and pieced together, akin to, says Stu “sampling-culture, in which old ideas are reshaped and suddenly things make sense. It was like we were continually jamming with ourselves.”King Gizzard On Tour This Fall9/23: Kalamazoo, MI @ Audiotree Music Festival9/24: Chicago, IL @ Lincoln Hall9/25: Chicago, IL @ Lincoln Hall9/26: Nashville, TN @ Cannery Ballroom9/27: Atlanta, GA @ Variety Playhouse9/28: New Orleans, LA @ One Eyed Jacks10/1: Dallas, TX @ Trees10/4: Denver, CO @ Ogden Theatre10/5: Boulder, CO @ Fox Theatre10/6: Salt Lake City, UT @ Metro Music Hall10/7: Boise, ID @ Neurolux10/8: Portland, OR @ McMenamin's Crystal Ballroom10/9: Vancouver, BC CA @ Commodore Ballroom 10/10: Seattle, WA @ Neptune Theatre 10/12: San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore10/12-10/15: Joshua Tree, CA @ Desert Daze Festival11/25: Commonwealth Park, Canberra, ACT @ Spilt Milk Festival

Seaport Music Festival Celebrating 15 Year Anniversary

Seaport Music FestivalCelebrates 15 Year Anniversary
Featuring performances by:Ted Leo and the PharmacistsThe Make-UpMartin RevJames Chance & the ContortionsThe Wolfmanhattan ProjectJean GraeAzar SwanBig HugeThe Dance Carteland more!
**FREE & ALL AGES**September 7 - 10, 2017

Festival to Feature Live Music, Comedy, Film and more!
New York, NY - August 17, 2017 - The Seaport Music Festival is now accepting press applications to its 15th anniversary celebration in partnership with The Village Voice and South Street Seaport Museum!  The Seaport Music Festival has been gathering New Yorkers and tourists alike with authentic programming in a unique setting for the past 15 years. The festival will continue that legacy with an eye on the future, while also celebrating the rich history of this awe-inspiring venue in Lower Manhattan. With the 50th anniversary of the museum together with the 15th anniversary of the festival, it is an amazing time and opportunity to tell this story. For more information, please visit: http://www.seaportmusicfestival.com/.
Reflecting on the festival's history, founder Stephen Dima explains, "The Seaport Music Festival is a NY institution. It was a scruffy little festival that could, and that on many occasions, DID. It became a place where you could see bands that nobody else was going to take a chance on in a unique and relatively undiscovered part of Lower Manhattan."
In addition to live music, Seaport Music Festival will feature film screenings, comedy and dance. This year's lineup includes performances by:
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, who's self releasing his first album since 2010 called The Hanged Man, and who incidentally has a long, infamous history with the Seaport Music Festival, having performed at the inaugural fest in 2002 plus 5 other subsequent years. At this year's festival, Ted curated a special lineup which includes: comedic, musical and visual artist Jean Grae, heavy-beat minded electronic duo Azar Swan and NYC DIY rock'n'rollers Big Huge. Hosted by Dap.
New York Night Train DJ Jonathan Toubin has also been invited to curate a line-up, which features The Make-Up, a seminal post-punk band from DC led by Ian Svenonius who announced highly anticipated reunion shows this year. The line-up also includes Martin Rev (The surviving half of one of the most important bands of all time, Suicide), James Chance & The Contortions, The Wolfmanhattan Project, Death Valley Girls, Surfbort and Warm Drag. The acts here are not bonded together through genre but through social relationships and the kind of subterranean aesthetic that built the downtown music culture that changed the world, and became globally ubiquitous, but is rapidly disappearing without a trace from its Manhattan incubator. Seaport Music Festival and New York Night Train combine in their shared mission to keep downtown's underground music heritage alive and in its hometown.
The Dance Cartel: Premiere of Wet Clutch, an immersive drive-in dance experience that reinterprets and remixes movie heroines from the last four decades of American film, made possible in part with public funds from Creative Engagement/Creative Learning, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
"The Village Voice has covered and been a part of some of the most iconic cultural moments in New York City's history," said Kerrie Gillis, Chief Revenue Officer of The Village Voice. "Our partnership with theSeaport Music Festival continues that tradition, granting thousands of Voice readers and music fans access to the best the city has to offer at one of NYC's most historic venues."
Captain Jonathan Boulware, Executive Director of the South Street Seaport Museum, cited the long connection between the Museum and music over its fifty year history. "In the earliest years of the Seaport Museum, artists like Pete Seeger and others sang on the pier for lunchtime crowds. For years Pier 16 on the East River has been a place to hear music and to connect through that music to the origins of New York itself."
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, South Street Seaport Museum is a cultural institution dedicated to telling the story of the rise of New York as a port city and its critical role in the development of the United States. The Museum uses its historic buildings and ships to provide interactive exhibits, education, and experiences.
The festival will also feature locally sourced foods from the Fulton Stall Market and oysters from Empire Oyster.
One Manhattan Square, a modern glass vertical village at 220 South Street, under development by Extell Development Company, will join as a sponsor of the anniversary celebration.
Attracting thousands of attendees each year, Seaport Music Festival has previously showcased performers such as Animal Collective, Suicide, Angelique Kidjo, Hot Chip and many more. For more information, please visit: http://www.seaportmusicfestival.com/

Lee Ranaldo Releases Acoustic Session of "Thrown Over the Wall"; Electric Trim Out September 15

LEE RANALDO

RELEASES ACOUSTIC SESSION OF
“THROWN OVER THE WALL”

NEW ALBUM  ELECTRIC TRIM
OUT SEPTEMBER 15Photo: Alex Rademakers“We smuggle facts inside a magazine
Interpret sadness as shame
We swung a hammer to teach them to believe
Bury the lede behind the frame”

LEE RANALDO has shared an acoustic session version of “Thrown Over The Wall,” the third track to be taken from his brand new album,  Electric Trim , out on September 15, 2017.

Ranaldo explains, “This is a song for the resistance: We use a telescope to measure great distances, a micrometer or microscope to explore minutia. The scale is vast, from infinite to infinitesimal; we humans but a momentary blip on the cosmic timeline. Last of your kind? RESIST / Eyes Ahead / Inclusion not Exclusion / RESIST.”

The acoustic version of “Thrown Over The Wall” was recorded in Prague and Rome during Ranaldo’s 2016 tour, and edited by Lee Ranaldo. Lyrics for the track were written by the author Jonathan Lethem and Lee Ranaldo.

Watch the session video here.

Electric Trim was recorded in New York City and Barcelona in collaboration with producer Raül ‘Refree’ Fernandez and extends the work of Ranaldo's solo canon, the most recent being his 2013 album, Last Night On Earth.

Through his collaboration with Fernandez, Ranaldo moves into some rich new sonic territories and production techniques, experimenting with electronic beats and samples alongside live players.

Ranaldo is a co-founder of Sonic Youth, a visual artist, producer and writer. In addition to Fernandez, he worked with several special guests on Electric Trim, including Sharon Van Etten who sings on six of the tracks and duets on “Last Looks” and Kid Millions (aka Man Forever) as well as longtime friend and collaborator Nels Cline (Wilco). In addition, the album features Ranaldo’s band The Dust (fellow Sonic Youth member Steve Shelley, guitarist Alan Licht, and bassist Tim Luntzel).

Ranaldo collaborated with award winning New York author Jonathan Lethem (Motherless Brooklyn/The Fortress of Solitude) for lyrics on six of the songs and the American artist Richard Prince, who previously painted the sleeve for Sonic Youth’s 2004 album Sonic Nurse, created the artwork for the album.

A feature length documentary,  HELLO HELLO HELLO : LEE RANALDO : ELECTRIC TRIM , on the year-long making of the album by filmmakers Fred Riedel and Jerry Fried will be touring select film festivals in Europe and the US in 2017. Confirmed festivals include the New Jersey Film Festival on album release day, September 15, Fonomo Music and Film Festival in Poland and Gig Harbor Film Festival in Seattle in October and London Doc ‘n Roll festival in November. Further details to follow.

Lomelda shares "From Here," new album 'Thx' out 9/8 via Double Double Whammy

LOMELDA SHARES "FROM HERE"
FALL TOUR WITH PINEGROVE AND FLORIST
THX OUT 9/8 VIA DOUBLE DOUBLE WHAMMY

LISTEN TO "FROM HERE"
Lomelda has shared "From Here," the latest from her upcoming album, Thx The FADER  premiered the track, interviewed Hannah Read and called it "a warm track about distance and driving, about wanting to be found and seen." Thx is available for pre-order now and due out September 8th via Double Double Whammy.
Hannah Read, who performs under the moniker Lomelda, makes music that is textural and spacious. Her words are suggestive snapshots of loosely knitted observations, depicting quiet moments between friends and lovers and half-remembered celestial occurrences. In her songs, the memory of the past and glimpses of future stretch out on either side of you, and the present is unsteady and always shifting.
Lomelda is hitting the road with Pinegrove and Florist this fall. All dates below.
LISTEN TO THE ALBUM'S PREVIOUS SINGLES "INTERSTATE VISION" & "OUT THERE"
ABOUT LOMELDA:If you were to ask Hannah Read what Lomelda means, you'd probably end up with some kind of non-answer and a new topic. It is a guarded secret reserved for those who really pry. It is a high school attempt at describing something vast and powerful yet uniquely quiet and complex. And it is ever-changing. Lomelda is about memory, intimacy, and the tragedies of distance. As a band, it has appeared in several forms over the years, but always, to Hannah, Lomelda has been about discovering friendship and connection. Close collaborators have become closer friends. And when you see Lomelda, when you hear it, it is apparent that Hannah cares deeply about the connection made with the people on stage, the connection with you.

Ardyn Unveils New Single "Throwing Stones" (Produced by Tourist)

ARDYN UNVEIL NEW SINGLE "THROWING STONES" (PRODUCED BY TOURIST)
WATCH / SHARE: "THROWING STONES"
Ardyn, the British brother/sister duo of Katy and Rob Pearson, released their new single "Throwing Stones" today along with an animated video. Created by Alden Volley (Temples, Nick Mulvey), the video is a striking accompaniment to the Gloucestershire duo's latest track. Stereogum premiered the clip today, saying the song "couches [mystic qualities] amongst a beat that almost lurches over and synths that stab (even if they stab gently). Those pieces carefully lock together and give the song a forward momentum, pushing you along into the simmering whirlwind of the chorus."
Speaking of the song, Katy Pearson says: "'Throwing Stones' was inspired by feeling very disillusioned, in particular with the current state of politics and unrest in the world. With everything seemingly going a bit haywire, I felt I needed to put that into words.  We'd also recently watched The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock which definitely stuck with me, so the song party draws from that film." Produced with friend and collaborator Tourist, who worked alongside the band on previous single "Together," "Throwing Stones" is a darker musical home for the duo, a song with intent, focused around Katy Pearson's piercing lyrics, "You're somebody that's not like me, and I won't believe a word you speak."
Furthering their relationship with friend and producer Tourist, the band appear on his latest single "We Stayed Up All Night." The huge new track from the UK producer features Katy's unmistakable vocals. It has been receiving great plaudits, hitting #1 on the Hype Machine and featured on Spotify Viral Charts around the world.
