A reflection of both Serrao's personal listening tastes and the very nature of music, he says the festival's name has multiple meanings. "Sonically, music has highs and lows, and emotional highs and lows, and with the California topography, we have the mountains, the desert and the ocean," says Serrao. "The name High & Low fit for us, with the vision for where we wanted to go. Great music has got me through every aspect of my life. With every high and every low, came a soundtrack in my head that defined my life. This festival is a good representation of artists that do this for myself, and tons of other people."
High and Low concertgoers can expect a festival with a coherent, cohesive identity, crafted by someone who truly understands what makes a live performance great.

Gabrielle Shonk Debuts New Track via W Magazine, Announces Self-Titled Debut LP Out 9/29 On Universal Music Canada

Gabrielle Shonk

Announces Self-Titled Debut Album
Out  9/29 On Universal Music Canada

Debuts New Track “ Raindrops ” With  W Magazine

“Shonk sounds like an amalgamation of the past 20 years of star female songstresses ...”
VICE’s Noisey
Last year, Quebec indie-folk singer/songwriter Gabrielle Shonk self-released her first single “Habit.” The track spread like wildfire, grabbing the the attention of VICE’s Noisey who likened Shonk’s vocals to a mix of Alicia Keys, Fiona Apple and Amy Winehouse. Today, Shonk is debuting a new track “ Raindrops ” via  W Magazine  from her highly anticipated self-titled debut album out September 29th on Universal Music Canada.
LISTEN AND SHARE “RAINDROPS” HERE
Gabrielle Shonk’s debut album is announced on the heels of her recently released  Habit  single package, which includes the original single (“habit” currently has over one million streams on Spotify, and the track’s music videohas 154k views and counting), an acoustic version of the track, and brand new French single, “Trop Tard.” Although this is Shonk’s first record, she’s been writing songs since she was fourteen years old. "Sometimes the sound of a guitar on a recording inspires me to write a song,” Shonk explains. “Before chords or lyrics, I begin with a melody. This record is just pretty personal and sums up a bunch of musical influences and songs I’ve carried over the years,”Shonk explains. The album was produced by Simon Pedneault at Wild Studio, La Strip, Planet Studios, and Studio Dandurand in Canada.

Gabrielle Shonk is the natural product of a creative household, raised by a blues-musician father and artist mother in Quebec City. She started singing at a very young age and began writing her own songs as a teenager, soulfully guided by favorites such as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, and Tracy Chapman. Singing in both English and French, music quickly became Shonk’s universal language. Her musical craft took hold as she went on to study Jazz in University, where she later earned a degree in music. Shonk recently opened for fellow Canadian singer/songwriter Bobby Bazini as well as Rag N Bone Man, Hannah Georgas, Milky Chance and P!nk. This summer, she’s performed at Montreal Jazz Festival, Wayhome Festival, and is currently in the middle of a North American tour. See full list of tour dates below.

Elephant Stone Announce New Remix EP.Unveil Young Galaxy remix of ‘The Devil’s Shelter’

Montreal psych-rock trio Elephant Stone have announced new remix album, featuring members of Young Galaxy, TOY, Caribou, Tahiti 80 and more. The album follows the release of the band’s recent full length Ship of Fools - out now on Elephants On Parade/Burger Records. The renditions found on ‘Remix of Fools’ intensify the moments of infectious rhythm, highlight the swirling atmospherics, amplify the hidden hooks, and take the songs into unexpected and uncharted territory.Speaking about Young Galaxy’s remix frontman Rishi Dhir says: “Stephen Ramsay (Young Galaxy) and I have known each other for years. We initially met when I was recording the first Elephant Stone album “The Seven Seas” in 2008 at Breakglass Studios with Jace Lasek. Jace had recorded Young Galaxy’s debut and Stephen would stop by the studio. Fast forward 5 years later and I would run into Stephen while playing with our kids in the local park. We’d always end up talking about music and gear. I appreciated Young Galaxy’s shift into more electronic territory and mentioned in passing my bubbling obsession with Acid House and how I’d always wanted to create an Acid House-meets-raga album… So, when we finally released Ship of Fools, he was the first person I contacted for a remix. From our conversations, I knew he understood what I wanted this remix to be… and he nailed it. Funny enough, this track was the springboard for our collaboration on the future “Elephant Stone presents Acid House Ragas”...."Formed in 2009 by Dhir (singer/bassist/songwriter/sitar) accompanied by Miles Dupire (drummer/backing vox) and Gabriel Lambert (guitar/backing vox), the band has proven to be innovators who are unafraid of challenging themselves and their audience. Elephant Stone have toured alongside prominent acts such as Beck, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and The Horrors. They continue to solidify their place in the burgeoning psych rock scene with an impressive sequence of releases. Most recently, Ship of Fools presented a new Elephant Stone emphasizing catchy grooves and vocal melodies that smack of both infectious pop and dance, and the new remix EP takes five songs off of that release and illuminates them into even more trippy, ecstatic and dancefloor-ready light.A list of 2017 tour dates are below.Tour Dates:9/1 - Rouyn Noranda, QC at Petit Theatre de Rouyn Noranda (w/ A Place to Bury Strangers)9/7 - Berlin, DE at Bassy (w/ Cosmonauts)9/8 - Cologne, DE at Gebäude 9 (w/ Cosmonauts)9/9 - Hamburg, DE at Molotow (w/ Cosmonauts)9/12 - Malmo, SWE at Plan B9/13 - Copenhagen, DK at Pumpehuset (w/ The Black Angels + A Place to Bury Strangers)9/16 - Angers, FR at Theatre le Quai9/18 - Le Havre, FR at McDaids Live9/19 - Leiden, NL at Gebroeders Nobel (w/ Holydrug Couple)9/20 - Amsterdam, NL at Paradiso (Indiestad Festival w/ The Black Angels + A Place to Bury Strangers)9/22 - London, UK at O2 Forum (w/ The Black Angels + A Place to Bury Strangers)9/23 - Liverpool, UK at Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia9/27 - Thessaloniki, GR at Rover Bar9/28 - Arta, GR at Miles Bar9/29 - Athens, GR at Death Disco12/3 - Columbus, OH at Ace of Cups (w/ The Dream Syndicate)12/4 - Chicago, IL at Thalia Hall (w/ The Dream Syndicate)12/5 - Minneapolis, MN at Fine Line (w/ The Dream Syndicate)12/6 - St. Louis, MO at Off Broadway (w/ The Dream Syndicate)12/7 - Nashville, TN at High Watt (w/ The Dream Syndicate)12/8 - Atlanta, GA at The Earl (w/ The Dream Syndicate)12/9 - Raleigh, NC at Stag’s Head Music Hall (w/ The Dream Syndicate)12/10 - Richmond, VA at Capital Ale House (w/ The Dream Syndicate)

----------

Award-winning British band Everything Everything release their highly anticipated fourth studio album, A Fever Dream  today. Produced by James Ford (Florence + The Machine, Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode) features energy filled, intelligent socio-pop gems such as “Can’t Do” (watch the video  HERE ) and their most recent single, “Desire.” Check out the Dave Tree-directed clip  HERE A Fever Dream  serves as the follow up to Everything Everything’s critically acclaimed 2015 album,  Get To Heaven .

Across three albums, immense acclaim and intense adoration, the sound of Everything Everything has remained a volatile beast; a musical bucking bronco, their albums maximalist, frenetic, art-pop juxtapositions of R’n’B and melancholia and Afrobeat, of synths, guitars, falsetto. Critics have written of the frenzy of it, of the sheer sublime sweet sensory overload of it all. Their fourth album,  A Fever Dream , is a quite different prospect: a calibration of chaos and control, the result of a curious desire for consistency. As guitarist Alex Robertshaw puts it: “Our records have been many styles rubbing up against each other, and for the first time I wanted to make a record that was cohesive sonically.”

Midway through touring with  Get To Heaven , Robertshaw found himself listening increasingly to the kind of electronic music he had loved as a teenager — early Warp Records releases, Aphex Twin,AutechreBoards of Canada, relishing “the atmosphere and the attitude” of them. “I wanted to go back to that thing that first made me excited about music,” he says. “We’ve spent a lot of time going into that R’n’B and hip hop world — for an indie band it was a bit of an untouchable thing, and it was really fun to do and I think we captured it at its best with Kemosabe and Arc. But once you start doing that you kind of separate yourself.”

In talking about the new album’s sound, singer Jonathan Higgs explains “It’s kind of a mixture of the sounds of our adolescence I suppose - the electronic stuff mixed with American heavy bands of the early-mid 90s. As a result, there’s also a lot of adolescent riffy guitar-playing on the album. Guitar music is really where we came from, all of us. Then we grew up a bit and it went out of fashion, but really that’s what excites us hugely. And because we always had a plan on not being like that early on it feels really good to do it now.”

While bassist Jeremy Pritchard and drummer Michael Spearman joined later in the studio under the watchful eye of producer James Ford, the album began with Higgs and Robertshaw, Everything Everything’s principal songwriters. This has been their most collaborative record to date, seeing the pair working together on every track, with Higgs’s more dramatic pop sensibilities tempered by what he simply describes as Robertshaw’s “cool”.

In many ways  A Fever Dream  is the logical thematic successor to  Get To Heaven ’s exploration of rolling news culture — a portrait of a world grown relentless and unfathomable, whatever your nationality or political persuasion. “I really didn’t want to be too explicit about world events,” Higgs says. “Everyone’s pretty aware of what is going on. But I wanted to make a record about how this has all affected us, not just me and you, but everyone around us. I think people come to us for a sense of recognition. They want to hear someone else say what they’re feeling. And that’s what I’ve always gone to music for, and I hope that’s what we put out - the ‘Do you feel like me?’ message, rather than anything more concrete. It doesn’t interest me to be preachy, it just turns everybody off, including me.”

One track, “Ivory Tower,” is a particularly striking reflection of the times — a spewing-forth of what Robertshaw politely terms “a lot of hugely unacceptable language” in a portrait of an increasingly faceless and impersonal world. “’Ivory Tower’ deals with very extreme stuff,” says Higgs. “It’s a reaction to the nasty side of everything we’ve had lately, like all the stuff on immigration. But I’m not looking at it objectively I’m going right in there and saying lots of awful things that everyone’s saying at each other - so I’m having a go at the liberal elite and I’m having a go at the small-minded racists, all this stuff at the same time. And it’s just this rage, this really fast, violent song. And it’s a way to get all that horrible shit out of us. And when you hear it on the record it does just sound like someone kicking down your door. But I’m not setting out my stall — it’s a photograph of now, a snapshot of how it feels to be alive at the moment.”

A Fever Dream  is a rare and quite remarkable achievement: an album that is charged and political, that takes the temperature of the times, that will surely stand as one of the year’s most important albums, yet on a most visceral level is arresting, beautiful, tender, and thoroughly, irresistibly danceable. It is that exceptional kind of record that demands cerebral, emotional and physical response — as Higgs says: “You shouldn’t be sitting down the first time you hear it.”

Currently in the midst of a sold out UK tour, Everything Everything recently announced a run of North American tour dates, kicking off in San Francisco October 9th, with the band making scheduled stops in Los Angeles, New York City, Washington, D.C. and Boston. Tickets are ON-SALE NOW via: www.everything-everything.co.uk

Albanian cellist Redi Hasa performs on three tracks, as does the celebrated Seth Lakeman on viola and fiddle. Plant and the Space Shifters (which now includes Lakeman) will celebrate Carry Fire's release by beginning a world tour in November 2017 starting in UK & Ireland and touring all corners of globe from thereon. I must mix old with new. Consequently the whole impetus of the band has moved on its axis somewhat, the new sound and different space giving way to exciting and dramatic landscapes of mood, melody and instrumentation". lullaby and...The Ceaseless Roar (Nonesuch/Warner Bros. Records) made top ten debuts around the globe upon its release, from the US's SoundScan/Billboard 200 to album charts in Belgium, Canada, Finland, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Along with its international commercial appeal, lullaby and...The Ceaseless Roar drew rave reviews from such high profile media outlets as NPR Music, which named it to their "50 Favorite Albums of 2014," noting, "(Plant) is still a majestic rock presence, at peace with the legacy of his hard-rock-defining band Led Zeppelin, while remaining relentlessly creative in his solo work... (The album) lovingly layers elements in ways that mirror memory, creating new constructs from floating shards of the musical past." "Robert Plant knows where rock's past begins and he's pulling it into the future," wrote the Wall Street Journal while the New York Times praised the singer's "otherworldly voice: sustained, androgynous, balanced between serenity and ache." Britain's Guardian declared lullaby and...The Ceaseless Roar to be "fantastic: gritty, dark, and satisfying" while also making special mention of Plant's "hugely impressive backing band, the Sensational Space Shifters... There's something almost alchemical about their ability to draw together incongruent musical influences into something coherent and exciting." Pitchfork called Lullaby "the most bravely confessional writing of his career." ROBERT PLANT Carry Fire (Nonesuch/Warner. Bros)Release Date: Friday, October 13, 2017 1. The May Queen2. New World...3. Alvvays Release New Song "Plimsoll Punks," New Album Out September 8th

ALVVAYS RELEASE NEW SONG "PLIMSOLL PUNKS"
ANTISOCIALITES OUT ON SEPTEMBER 8TH ON POLYVINYL

Photo Credit: Arden WrayStream/Share "Plimsoll Punks"
Alvvays will drop their highly anticipated sophomore album in under a month and the Toronto-based group are giving us another taste of new music with the infectious "Plimsoll Punks." The song is the band's answer to Television Personalities' 'Part-Time Punks' and a winking surf opus indictment of the self-righteous who intend to condescend.
The previously released tracks "In Undertow" and "Dreams Tonite" show a band on the brink of releasing their best material yet, Pitchfork notes on "Dreams Tonite" that the "new sound nods to the Chromatics and Beach House, touching upon their moody temperament while fleshing out their emotional explorations." Rolling Stonepraised "In Undertow" in their Playlist section writing "Canadian guitar romantics Alvvays mix pleasant noises and chill dejection, and the result is a perfect indie-rock lullaby."
Alvvays will be touring the world extensively in support of Antisocialites this fall playing shows with Jay Som and Nap Eyes. The North American tour is selling quickly with several dates including Portland and DC already sold out.
Early Acclaim For Antisocialites:
"Alvvays never second-guess their core strength: anthemic, arm-swaying hooks that aim for the stars even when the sky is gray." Pitchfork
"The band has kept their rivers of reverb, which sometimes makes them sound as though they're playing to an empty middle-school gymnasium, an image that fittingly blends sweetness with melancholy." Vulture
"Lead single "In Undertow" contains all of the elements that were initially so charming about the Toronto five-piece blown up to fuzzy and dreamy new heights." Stereogum
"It's a heart-swelling three minutes, and further proof that the band's sophomore LP could be one of the fall season's best." Consequence of Sound on "Dreams Tonite"
"The great thing about Alvvays is that they know what they do well - create objectively good, beautiful indie pop - and they are evidently doing it again with Antisocialites"Uproxx
"A very nice dose of their melodic, emotional indie pop, complete with a shoegazy guitar solo." Brooklyn Vegan on "In Undertow"
"More  lovelorn sun-spotted jangly jams done in only the charming way the Toronto quartet know how." My Old Kentucky Blog

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart shares new single, "My Only" via Billboard - album due Sept. 1st

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart shares new single, "My Only" via Billboard - album due Sept. 1

STREAM: "My Only" -
Billboard / SoundCloud
Today the Pains of Being Pure at Heart shares "My Only," the third single from its recently announced fourth album, The Echo of Pleasure, over at Billboard. The album, due Sept. 1 (digital) and Sept. 15 on CD, vinyl & cassette, on the band's own Painbow label - is available for pre-order here in all formats. The band also has a NYC show and west coast dates in September (see full list of dates below).Bio:
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have long set the benchmark for big-hearted, idealistic pop songs. With The Echo of Pleasure, The Pains push beyond their many inspirations and embrace their role as indiepop heroes in their own right. Showcasing the deft songwriting of frontman Kip Berman, The Pains’ fourth album is their most confident and accomplished. After three critically-acclaimed records, 2009’s The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, 2011’s Belong and 2014’s Days of Abandon received praise from The New York Times, Pitchfork, The Guardian and Rolling Stone, they have put together a collection of songs that possess a timeless grandeur, deeper and more satisfying than anything the band has done since their iconic debut. Berman enlisted Days of Abandon producer Andy Savours (My Bloody Valentine, The Killers) to help him record a Pains record like none-other. “The logistics of it were so different. When I recorded the record, my wife was six months pregnant. We only had a limited amount of time. There was an absolute uncertainty hanging over our heads, but it was also a kind of escape from worry for that time,” he explains. “What’s going to happen when I have a kid? Am I going to be able to go on tour? Is this the last record I’m going to get to make? It’s not a bad thing to be worried when you’re expecting this huge transition of life. If you didn’t feel scared, you’re probably not feeling the right emotion. I tried to make the best record I could, knowing it might be the last time.”The Echo of Pleasure navigates variability and safety without unraveling. Berman is no stranger to fragility; here, it’s structured with warmth, the kind found after life-altering moments. It’s reflected in the album title, too: “The Echo of Pleasure could be the near-symmetry of love,” he explains. “It’s the reflection back and forth, modulating over time, of two people who are together. It’s not a mirror - but a perpetual answering and asking. When one person is absent, that echo ceases or, as the title track laments, ‘fades into these silent days.’ In that sense, remembering is a kind of echo, each instance slightly less vivid than the one before.”The record is augmented by guest vocals featuring previous Pains collaborators: Jen Goma on “So True” (A Sunny Day in Glasgow), bass guitar by Jacob Danish Sloan (Dream Diary), and horns by Kelly Pratt (Beirut, David Byrne, St. Vincent). The Pains of Being Pure at Heart live band consists of long-time guitarist Christoph Hochheim (Ablebody, ex-Depreciation Guild), bassist Jacob Danish Sloan, drummer Chris Schackerman (ex-Mercury Girls, ex-Literature) and vocalist/keyboardist Jess Rojas. The Echo of Pleasure arrives Sept. 1TOUR DATES:
