WIDOWSPEAK SHARE NEW SINGLE, "THE DREAM"
WIDOWSPEAK SHARENEW SINGLE, "
THE DREAM
"
NEW ALBUM EXPECT THE BEST OUT VIA CAPTURED TRACKS AUGUST 25
NEW TOUR DATES ADDED IN NORTH AMERICA + EUROPE
Today Widowspeak reveal the third single, "The Dream," from their forthcoming full-length Expect The Best . Calling the track a "sublime escape," Spin premiered "The Dream" alongside their feature on the band. Of the album they say,"throughout Expect the Best, familiar vintage textures and dreamy vocals only partially disguise a sense that all may not be well. The alt-rock influence slips in as a brooding chill, a spookiness that never found such voice on past Widowspeak albums." Read the story here and listen to today's single here:
STREAM "THE DREAM"
Widowspeak will release Expect The Best on August 25 on Captured Tracks. In support of the new album, the band will tour the US this fall, beginning in Boston onSeptember 8 at The Great Scott and concluding in Brooklyn at Rough Trade onOctober 13. All dates are listed below including newly confirmed shows in the US and Europe.
Expect the Best is the follow up to 2015's All Yours. While previous albums were conceived as a duo with lead guitarist Robert Earl Thomas, the new LP finds Widowspeak playing to the specific strengths of the current touring incarnation (James Jano on drums, Willy Muse on bass). The album, recorded by Kevin MacMahon(Swans, Real Estate), exhibits a marked increase in energy that reflects the band's live show and the organic way it was created: by four people in a room together. The band collectively navigate dynamic changes with subtlety and restraint; the nine tracks here reach highs of wide-eyed lushness and plumb the depths of resigned melancholy. Their usual palette of dusty guitars and angular twang are still here front and center, but now with a bit more 90s homage, even if abstractly.

Whispertown Shares New Single "Born To Ride" With Lenny Letter; New Album I'm A Man out September 1
Whispertown Shares New Single "Born To Ride" With Lenny LetterNew Album I'm A Man out September 1 on Graveface Records Fall Tour Dates With M. Ward Announced
"She's the nicest and I always really loved her voice." - Kim Deal on Morgan Nagler
"Morgan Nagler is my favorite songwriter. Period.” - Jenny LewisStream: "Born To Ride" at Lenny Letter or SoundCloud
Stream: "I'm A Man" at Impose Magazine or SoundCloud
Los Angeles-based band Whispertown has shared "Born To Ride" with Lenny Letter. The track is from the band's forthcoming album I'm A Man due September 1 on Graveface Records which is available to pre-order now at Bandcamp.
Whispertown will be touring this fall with M. Ward in support of I'm A Man and has announced a Los Angeles record release show taking place on September 1 at The Bootleg Theater. Tickets for the show are available HERE. All upcoming shows are listed below.
Whispertown is the latest iteration of the unique vision of Morgan Meyn Nagler (songwriter, lead vocals, guitar). What was once The Whispertown 2000 has morphed into a less structured version of itself, with Nagler’s unmistakable vocals leading a revolving cast of musicians and artists. I'm A Man (produced by Jake Bellows), set to be released September 1 on Graveface Records, marks Nagler’s return, and third full length release. After being diagnosed with a polyp on her vocal cord, and faced with the possibility of never singing again, Nagler discovered she is without a doubt a “lifer”, and married to song writing, for better and for worse. I'm A Man is a stripped back acoustic album, set in a naturally psychedelic world, where words reveal themselves in modern mantra - “New Genes in Blue Jeans”.
In various formations, Nagler and company garnered support slots for Jenny Lewis, The Breeders, Bright Eyes, She & Him, Maria Taylor, Rilo Kiley, Azure Ray, Conor Oberst and many more. The band soon caught the attention of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, inspiring the first signing to their own Acony Records. Shortly thereafter the band released 2008’s Swim, their debut release from Acony, followed by 2012’s Parallel (the first release under the Whispertown moniker).
Additionally, Whispertown's Morgan Nagler has traveled around the world playing her own music and has also worked countless co-writes with artists such as HAIM (“Falling”), Kim Deal (“The Root”,”Range on Castle”), Rilo Kiley (“Dreamworld”) and the Dave Rawlings Machine (“Sweet Tooth”) to name a few.

JADE BIRD’S “WHAT AM I HERE FOR” VIDEO PREMIERES
JADE BIRD’S “WHAT AM I HERE FOR” VIDEO PREMIERESON U.S. TOUR NOW INCLUDING FALL DATES WITH SON LITTLEDEBUT EP SOMETHING AMERICAN RELEASED TO CRITICAL ACCLAIM ON GLASSNOTE RECORDS
photo credit Shervin LainezThe video for emerging British artist Jade Bird’s “What Am I Here For” is premiering today. Watch/share here: http://vevo.ly/Ggxh1p. Of the song, Pitchfork explains, “She steamrolls through the song, singing as if she’s putting all the physical weight of her voice against the emotional burden of heartbreak. The polished but barebones production on this track makes for searing intimacy; it’s recorded as if Bird is playing alone in her room, seeking solace in her instrument.” The track is from Jade’s debut EP Something American , out now on Glassnote Records.Something American continues to receive widespread critical attention:“A young Londoner’s spin on modern Americana and stripped-down soul, driven forward by killer pipes and an acoustic guitar.”— Rolling Stone “Nineteen-year-old U.K. export Jade Bird enchantingly blend of folk, alt-country, and blues on her fittingly titled debut EP. Come for the haunting, singalong-invitation ‘Cathedral,’ stay for the impressive cover of Son House’s ‘Grinnin’ in Your Face.’”— Entertainment Weekly “Her phrasing and accent feel as if they’d be as at home in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York as they would on Nashville radio.”— NPR MusicTo further celebrate the release, Jade has confirmed North American dates this fall in support ofSon Little. The new dates follow Jade’s recent debut U.S. performances including New York’s Rockwood Music Hall, Nashville’s Bluebird Café (with Brent Cobb) as well as upcoming dates at Los Angeles’ Hotel Café this week. See below for complete details.Born in Hexham, U.K., Jade’s early life was spent mainly in flight as an “army brat,” with time spent in South Wales, Germany and Chesterfield. One of life’s few constants proved to be the influence of strong working women. At first via her mother and grandmother who largely raised her, but later the female role models within the musical subcultures Jade become obsessed with: from troubled but empowering country heroines like Loretta Lynn to iconic alternative songwriters like Patti Smith, and following a thread through folk and Americana to incorporating such confessional, undiluted songwriting into pop music (Alanis Morisette’s Jagged Little Pill was a similarly early touchstone).Something American twists those genres’ themes—disillusionment, divorce, cheating, sorrow—into the realities of an independent-minded, modern British teenager in 2017. Produced by Simone Felice (The Lumineers, Bat For Lashes, Conor Oberst) with co-production and mixing by David Baron (The Lumineers, Bat For Lashes), the 5-song EP was recorded at Clubhouse Studio in Rhinebeck, NY and features Matt Johnson (Jeff Buckley, St Vincent) on drums and Sara Lee (B-52s) on bass. HUNDRED WATERS NEW SONG/VIDEO "FINGERS," SHARE ALBUM ART AND TRACK LIST
HUNDRED WATERS RELEASE NEW SONG/VIDEO "FINGERS," SHARE COMMUNICATING ALBUM ART AND TRACK LIST GROUP ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL US AND EUROPEAN TOUR DATES WATCH THE VIDEO FOR "FINGERS"
https://youtu.be/o1v7mGD14lo
LA-based trio Hundred Waters - comprised of vocalist/songwriter Nicole Miglis, producer Trayer Tryon and drummer Zach Tetreault - have just shared a new music video for "Fingers," the third single from their long awaited new full length,
Communicating
(out September 14 via OWSLA). The hushed tones and raw emotionality of the song catches a fitting visual treatment from director Allie Avital in which the vulnerability of Miglis's lyrics metaphorically manifests as a small army of over 12,000 live insects that crawl around and on top of her. The video follows the recently released single "Blanket Me," which earned a coveted Best New Track designation from Pitchfork. Taken together the songs' reserved and masterful executions illustrate the leap in composition, performance, and confidence the band has undergone in the three years since 2014's critically lauded
The Moon Rang Like a Bell.
In conjunction with the new video, the band have shared more details about Communicating, including album art, track listing, pre-order info, and details about the physical editions of the album, which comprise a CD version, a single LP version, and a special "sequined" 2xLP edition that includes the recently issued Currency EP. Pre-orders are now available from the band's new webstore, which can be found via their website hundred-waters.com. The band have also added a plethora of European and US dates to their previously announced Fall tour, full details and dates below. Communicating is a grand and ambitious album with an increased focus on songwriting that, at the same time, is more confidently experimental; unafraid to spike its pop hooks with noise, or build elaborate, fractal-like patterns out of Miglis's multitracked voice. The album follows the release of their recent Currency EP as well as organizing, curating, and performing at their fourth annual FORM Arcosanti festival. "From a broad lens," Miglis says, "the album is a breakup. It starts with a need for independence and it ends with an 'all better,' like we did it: we learned, we loved, we separated, and now it's time for the next chapter." LISTEN & SHARE: Oberhofer - "Hey Man" Track
https://soundcloud.com/glassnotemusic/hey-manMemories can be inspiring or stifling, alluring or ugly, wistful, joyous or flat. But what if they all come rushing back in a moment of quiet? You're in headphones, zoned out, and your entire life flashes before your eyes, floods your ears, sounds like a screaming orchestra, feels like a bounding sack of lead, and looks like an unholy filmic mashup of David Cronenberg and Ken Burns. This is "chronovision," a high-concentration dose of pure memory. And on the album of the same newly minted name, Brad Oberhofer distills his own total recall into beautiful, bittersweet song.
When it came time to make his second proper album under the Oberhofer name, the Tacoma-raised, New York-based artist had a great deal to draw from. His almost idyllic youth — mom sang opera; dad sailed boats; family lived on a gulch; deer and fox munched blueberries outside — had recently smashed up against harsh reality. One day while home for a brief respite from touring his 2012 debut Time Capsules II, Oberhofer woke to find his roommate dead, in the bathroom, of a heroin overdose. He had to call his friend's boyfriend and break the news. Then, a mere three days later, he had to clear out all of his belongings and drive his band to Lollapalooza.
Such events seem to cast all else in a severe light, so while you'll hear Oberhofer's familiar sound — amped psych-pop with orchestral flourish, New Wave flare, and grungy fuzz — the intensity has been ratcheted up. The brighter moments are more brilliant, almost manically so, and the darker hues have deepened in kind. Certain samples, keyboard runs, and piano figures evoke calliope — circus music, conjuring innocence and madness in turn. And our host is as apt to channel the bliss of Brian Wilson's SMiLE ("Sun Halo") as he is the blooming melancholia of early Grandaddy ("What You Know"). The ghosts of Lou Reed and Del Shannon lurk these halls, too.
Much of this is also to do with Oberhofer's resolve to produce the LP himself. The road toChronovision was winding. He first rented a spot in the Catskills, set up all of his instruments (piano, keyboards, guitars, drums, clarinet, violin, Theramin), and made a song a day for two weeks. But that version of the record would be scrapped, as would the next, recorded in Seattle with Phil Ek (the Shins, Modest Mouse) on the boards. Two more album's worth of songs were recorded in a pair of overnight solo jags, but those only exist today in the annals of SoundCloud. A final spurt took him to a Tacoma studio, two NYC facilities (Strange Weather, Electric Lady), and the former Sound City in Los Angeles. Lastly: Atlanta to mix with Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Washed Out). Exactly 106 demos later, Oberhofer emerged with these 12 songs.
That process isn't altogether surprising. When he's not playing or recording with Oberhofer the band — Oberhofer the man is constantly creating. His Instagram feed is full of bite-sized video loops. His Bandcamp offers a free collection of "daily meditations." Via a second SoundCloud account, he's recording 1,000-plus custom piano pieces for fans and friends (each composition bearing the person's name). It's possible he developed the practice while studying music at NYU (before he dropped out), after touring with the likes of Sleigh Bells, Neon Indian, or Matt & Kim, or in recording his last album with Grammy-stacking producer Steve Lillywhite. But one gets the feeling Oberhofer's been this way.
Chronovision bears the mark of that dedication, even if the perspective is often far more cloistered. "I spent my life inside a hole/I don't have any place to go," he coos through a forced grin on "Nevena," while on "Someone Take Me Home," he imagines a future in which his muse has left him for dead — set to cheery fuzz-pop, naturally. And sweet though they may be, "Sea of Dreams" and "White Horse, Black River" are respective dedications to Oberhofer's two grandmothers, who passed recently. Still, the LP's coda finds him looking outward, with optimism: "Listen to everyone/They too have songs in their eyes." The line implies that "chronovision" — the heady sum of one's memory — can be shared, and why not? That's what Oberhofer's just done.
