Cold Specks Announces New LP Out 9/22 on Arts & Crafts, W Magazine Debuts Title Track + North American Tour

Cold Specks

Announces New Album, Fool’s Paradise,
Out September 22 via Arts & Crafts

Soulful Album Title  Track  Debuted With  W Magazine  Today

FOOL’S PARADISE WORLD TOUR 2017
North American Dates Announced

PRE-ORDER FOOL’S PARADISE

Today, Ladan Hussein, known on stage as Cold Specks, announced her highly anticipated new album  Fool’s Paradise , set to release on September 22 via Arts & Crafts. The announce via  W Magazine  includes the premiere of album’s sultry title track “Fool’s Paradise.

The single “Fool’s Paradise” shows Hussein singing in Somali for the first time, calling out to a semi-mythical Somali queen of female empowerment named Araweelo, who was rumoured to castrate male prisoners. Like Cold Specks, Araweelo is a polarizing dream, always dangling between varying abstracts. Within the track is a Somali idiom, “kala garo naftaada iyo laftaada,” which translates in English to “understand the difference between your bones and your soul.”

LISTEN TO AND SHARE “FOOL’S PARADISE” HERE
“Fool’s Paradise” arrives on the heels of the recent single “ Wild Card ”. Quickly receiving accolades from The New York TimesIndie ShuffleConsequence of Sound and more, both tracks were produced and mixed by long-time collaborator Jim Anderson at Easy Life Studio in Toronto, with Tim Kingsbury of Arcade Fire performing bass.

Intimately exploring her identity as a Somali-Canadian woman, Fool’s Paradiseis Hussein’s most personal work yet. The album encapsulates the naturalness of existing during difficult times. Hussein recently learned about her family’s former life in Somalia - including her father’s musical legacy. During her 2015Neuroplasticity tour in Australia, Ladan discovered that her father helped form a famous band in the 1970s called Iftin. During the writing process, she dug deep into grainy VHS recordings found online of Iftin, and of many other Somali musicians, songs and videos that had survived war. “My parents never talked much about life in Mogadishu growing up” Hussein explains, “the war split up my family, scattered them around the world, left many missing, and those that made it were forever changed.” Saling her way to shore after grueling trial, error, and musical acclaim - Fool’s Paradise is the sound of finding home, identity, and self-love.

Cold Specks is set to launch the FOOL’S PARADISE WORLD TOUR 2017 with an extensive European tour and a slew of North American dates announced today with stops in NYC, Los Angeles, DC, Philadelphia, Denver, Nashville and more! Full dates can be found below. In 2015, Hussein followed her critically acclaimed debut LP,  I Predict A Graceful Expulsion , with the release of Neuroplasticity , both of which were nominated for the Polaris Music Prizewith the former also earning a JUNO Award nomination for Breakthrough Artist Of The Year. Between albums, when Cold Specks wasn’t writing or touring, Hussein was pinballing between asks from an enviable roll call of collaborators. She was asked to work on Moby’s album Innocents and was invited to play with Joni Mitchell at the singer’s 70th birthday alongside the likes of Herbie Hancock. She contributed to Ambrose Akinmusire's 2014 record for Blue Note and Swans’ 2014 album  To Be Kind . These last two partnerships left a significant impression on Neuroplasticity resulting in the indomitable Swans founder Michael Gira and Akinmusire to both appear on the album. Most recently, she has worked with Massive Attack on the track “Dead Editors” featuring Roots Manuva from their 2016 Ritual Spirit EP.

Waxahatchee shares “Recite Remorse” music video and new November tour dates

Watch & share the music video for Waxahatchee's "Recite Remorse" now

Today, Waxahatchee has shared a music video for  Out in the Storm ’s “Recite Remorse,” a song that ABC News calls “a cathartic, almost celebratory hymn of survival.”

Director Ricardo Rivera elaborates on the making of the video:

I am a video installation artist first and foremost, and this was the perfect opportunity for me to create an interpretive installation. I created an immersive space with layered translucent fabric and video projections and filmed Katie Crutchfield reacting to those elements. Optical layering of imagery onto the fabric and onto Katie created a video effect similar to many music videos of the ’90s, but done in practical way. Dreamy vibes for a dreamy song.

Listen to Out in the Storm now, and purchase the LP or CD in the Merge store.Waxahatchee is currently on the west coast in the midst of a North American tour, with European shows in the fall (Allison Crutchfield & The Fizz support) and newly announced November dates with Ought. Chicago Tribune caught the Thalia Hall show on Wednesday, proclaiming, “Waxahatchee has emerged as a genuine band. Played by upwards of three electric guitars and a brawny rhythm section capable of pouncing on the beat, several of Crutchfield’s early works sounded transformed.” A full list of tour dates can be found below. Today, enigmatic Swedish siren Skott, returns with the breathtaking visual for “Mermaid,” her highly anticipated new single, out now via Sony Music Entertainment UK/RCA Records. “Mermaid” saw its official radio premiere last week on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show. “Mermaid” features a slow burning crescendo of melodic piano and steadily building drum beats that, combined with Skott’s soaring vocals, create an arresting sonic masterpiece. Directed by Emile Rafael, the haunting clip was filmed in the UK and features the mysterious songbird, elegantly draped in a red gown, surrounded by a lush green forest, with exquisitely shot underwater scenes interspersed throughout. Watch the “Mermaid” video  HERE .

Mermaid” is the follow up to Skott’s last single, “Glitter & Gloss,” which was hailed as “ethereal and evocative” ( Idolator ), and “her punchiest pop moment to date” ( DIY ). The official video was directed by Zhang + Knight, beautifully shot over two days in Ukraine. Watch the stunning visual  HERE . This past spring, she unveiled a sparkling acoustic version of the song, which you can listen to  HERE . As her first release of 2017, “Glitter & Gloss” follows previous singles, Lack of Emotion,” “Amelia,” “Wolf” and her stunning debut single from last summer, “Porcelain,” which snagged a coveted slot on the official FIFA 17 soundtrack.

After dazzling crowds at SXSW in March, and with sold-out shows in both LA and New York already under her belt, the enchanting singer-songwriter Skott is returning to North America this summer with three prestigious festival appearances at Wayhome in Ontario (tickets), Lollapalooza in Chicago (tickets) and Osheaga in Montreal (tickets). In addition to these festival dates, the captivating singer/songwriter will be supporting Phantogram for two special shows in Buffalo, NY and Millvale, PA. Skott will also be headlining Chicago’s Schubas Tavern on August 3rd. For a full list live dates and further information, please visit www.facebook.com/skottmusic

Across the Atlantic, Skott has been busy working on new material set for release throughout the year, along with a highly anticipated full-length album, expected in 2018. In-between writing and studio sessions, the Scandinavian songstress has been busy touring Europe, making appearances at many of the leading music festivals. She is also set to hit the road with MØ this fall.

Skott spent her formative years in a remote forest community run by a collection of outcast folk musicians. Together they built a small but supportive network, quite far from the nearest populated city. There, surrounded by nature she thrived, learning to appreciate life without all the distractions associated with living in a city. Largely sequestered from contemporary pop culture, it wasn’t until Skott ventured into the city during her mid-teens that she listened to contemporary music for the first time.

Since making her debut last year, Skott has been steadily racking up support online, topping HypeMachines ‘Most Blogged chart numerous times, with her songs popping up on several Spotify ‘NewMusic Friday playlists and massive radio support from the likes of Annie Mac (Radio 1)Zane Lowe(Beats1) and KCRW (Jason Kramer). Described as “mesmerizing” by  The   FADER , “menacing and magical” by  Noisey  and "definitely worth paying attention to” by  Pigeons   &   Planes Skott has even received high profile endorsements on Twitter from both Katy Perry and Lorde. Most recently VEVOdscvr included the Swedish singer in their ‘Ones to Watch 2017’ list. Check out an exclusive live performance of “Porcelain” HERE. There’s no question that Skott is one to watch in 2017 and beyond."Mermaid"

HANSON announce greatest hits album release date

HANSON ANNOUNCE 25TH ANNIVERSARY ALBUM MIDDLE OF EVERYWHERE - THE GREATEST HITS TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 8TH
INCLUDES 25 SONGS, PLUS NEW SINGLE, "I WAS BORN"
ALBUM PRE-SALE AVAILABLE NOW
(New York NY) - Pop-rock trio HANSON officially announce the September 8th release, with pre-sale starting today, for their 25th Anniversary Middle Of Everywhere - The Greatest Hits album. The album is the first comprehensive collection, incorporating songs from the band's six major studio albums, as well as the new single "I Was Born," released in conjunction with their 25th Anniversary World Tour which has seen sold out concerts throughout Europe, Australia, Latin America, the US and Canada. "This album and the extensive world tour are really exciting for us, because it's the first time we've assembled a true career-spanning collection in one product, or one concert," said guitarist Isaac Hanson. "The addition of 'I Was Born' to this album is our way of still looking to the future, even as we celebrate where we have been for the last two decades," added keyboardist and middle brother, Taylor Hanson. The band initially formed in 1992 performing locally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and releasing 3 independent albums before being signed in 1996 by Mercury Records. Their breakout album Middle Of Nowhere, lead by the iconic debut single "Mmmbop" which was #1 in 27 countries simultaneously, sparked the band's meteoric rise to international fame, and was followed by multiple Grammy nominations, and a two decade long career of chart topping singles, including "Where's The Love", "I Will Come To You", "Weird", "This Time Around", "If Only", "Save Me", "Penny And Me", "Give A Little", "Thinking 'Bout Somethin'" and "Get The Girl Back". In 2003 the band founded their own independent record label 3CG Records, which has released 4 of their 6 studio albums to date and lead to numerous world tours, playing to their dedicated fanbase. Since the groups founding they have accomplished a rare combination of commercial success and critical respect, with outlets such as the Village Voice calling HANSON "the finest straight up rock band in America". The band has sold over 16 million albums. Starting at ages 11, 9 and 6, brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac were first inspired to make music while listening to 1950's and early 60's soul music and Rock 'n' Roll, citing influences from Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, The Beatles and Elvis, to Little Richard and Chuck Berry. These influences formed the bedrock of their musical inspiration, helping to forge their signature sound, which incorporates soulful melodies and song craft. In 2007 the band began their "Take The Walk" campaign, which helps to combat extreme poverty and HIV/AIDS, serving thousands of individuals in need throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2013, the group founded Hanson Brothers Beer Company, winning a gold medal in the World Beer Championships for their signature Pale Ale "Mmmhops". In 2014 they founded The Hop Jam Beer and Music Festival in their hometown of Tulsa, OK, bringing together more than 40,000 people annually, for one of the country's leading Craft Beer and Music Festivals.

THE SHINS EXTEND WORLDWIDE TOUR, ANNOUNCE NEW FALL TOUR DATES

THE SHINS EXTEND WORLDWIDE TOUR,
ANNOUNCE NEW FALL TOUR DATES

BAIO SUPPORTING DATES IN NOVEMBER

#SHINSVANCONTEST WINNERS MERTLE OPENING TOMORROW
IN NIAGARA FALLS AND JULY 27 IN GRAND RAPIDSThe Shins have announced new tour dates today, extending what is already a huge worldwide tour in support of their fantastic fifth studio album, Heartworms. The additional dates include The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on September 29 with special guests Foxygen and Day Wave, plus Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort and Casino on October 7 with special guest Day Wave, and The Anthem in Washington, DC on November 2 with special guest Baio. Tickets for the three shows go on sale this Friday, July 14 at 10am local time. See below for all tour dates, including summer festival stops at Lollapalooza and Osheaga, as well as a November run with support from Baio.

The Shins recently announced the winner of a contest to win their first-ever van. After weeks of fierce competition, Michigan-based trio Mertle’s cover of “Painting A Hole”beat out hundreds of submissions to win the grand prize. The Shins have invited Mertle to open for them tomorrow, July 11 in Niagara Falls as well as July 27 in Grand Rapids. Watch Mertle’s excitement as James Mercer pays them a surprise visit at their home in Eaton Rapids, Michigan to personally deliver the newly refurbished 1990 Ford 350 Clubwagon HERE!

Produced by James Mercer, The Shins’ fifth album, Heartworms, was released March 10 to a wave of acclaim: Entertainment Weekly called Heartworms the “band’s boldest album yet” and “a rewarding and singular addition to the Shins’ catalog,” Rolling Stone lauded its “home-brewed feel, heavy on Beach Boys grandeur, New Wave kicks, squiggly synth-pop and warm-weather soft rock – with lyrics tenderly balanced between midlife malaise and youthful romanticism. The result is some of the most charming music he's ever made,” while Time magazine opined “Heartworms works on a grander scale, with ornate sonic tableaux.”

Heartworms  is available everywhere now via Aural Apothecary/Columbia Records.

ALVVAYS ANNOUNCE JAY SOM & NAP EYES AS SUPPORTS FOR NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

ALVVAYS RELEASE NEW VIDEO FOR "IN UNDERTOW"
ANNOUNCE JAY SOM & NAP EYES AS SUPPORTS FOR NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
ANTISOCIALITES OUT SEPTEMBER 8TH ON POLYVINYL
Alvvays are back with a brand-new record due September 8th, and today they've released the video for the first single "In Undertow." Analog visual feedback and moon-man cameos fill the video singer Molly Rankin describes as "aquacosmic psych meets public access TV." Rankin says, "I'm aware of my own drowning fixation and fascinated by that bizarre lunar-tidal relationship. We've already filled our water video quota. Space is a trippier ocean."
Watch/Share the video for "In Undertow"
"In Undertow" is the first new music from the band since the release of their much loved self-titled debut album in 2014. The song is an exciting glimpse into what fans can expect from their sophomore album. Alvvays will be touring extensively this fall and will be joined by Jam Som and Nap Eyes as their opening supports. All dates for this must-see lineup are listed below.
Antisocialites is out September 8th and can be pre-ordered here.
Praise for "In Undertow":
"...Alvvays never second-guess their core strength: anthemic, arm-swaying hooks that aim for the stars even when the sky is gray." Pitchfork
"The band has kept their rivers of reverb, which sometimes makes them sound as though they're playing to an empty middle-school gymnasium, an image that fittingly blends sweetness with melancholy." - Vulture
"The single echoes with a longing for finding solace after going through a breakup." - Paste
"...lead single "In Undertow" contains all of the elements that were initially so charming about the Toronto five-piece blown up to fuzzy and dreamy new heights." -Stereogum
"Expect more lovelorn sun-spotted jangly jams done in only the charming way the Toronto quartet know how." - My Old Kentucky Blog
"...a very nice dose of their melodic, emotional indie pop, complete with a shoegazy guitar solo." - Brooklyn Vegan

Yusuf / Cat Stevens Returns With 'The Laughing Apple' - Out September 15

Yusuf / Cat Stevens Returns With 'The Laughing Apple' - Out September 15
Yusuf / Cat Stevens, one of the most influential singer-songwriters of all time, will release his highly anticipated new album, The Laughing Apple, on September 15 under his Cat-O-Log Records logo exclusively through Decca Records, the same label that launched his career 50 years ago.Hear the new song ‘See What Love Did to Me’ at Rolling Stone HEREAnd read more at Rolling Stone HEREThe Laughing Apple follows the common ‘60s template of combining newly-written songs with a number of covers – except that all the covers are from Yusuf's 1967 catalogue. The Laughing Apple celebrates some of his earliest material, presenting the songs as he has always wished they had been recorded.“There are some I always wanted to hear differently,” he explains. “Many of my earlier recordings were overcooked with big band arrangements. They crowded the song out a lot of times.”Yusuf produced The Laughing Apple with Paul Samwell-Smith, the original producer behind Yusuf's landmark recordings, including 1970’s Tea for the Tillerman, which contained the classics ‘Wild World’ and ‘Father and Son’. That multi-platinum album became a benchmark of the singer-songwriter movement, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has named it one of the definitive albums of all time. The Laughing Apple takes listeners to that little garden where the Tillerman sat under the tree, with a charming new illustration by Yusuf. That picture harks back to Tillerman’s younger days when he worked as an apple-picker. Yusuf also has illustrated each of the 11 songs on The Laughing Apple in his naive style, resembling a storybook — for those whose hearts have never really grown old.
When all things were tall,And our friends were small,And the world was new.
Those words of Cat Stevens’ Silent Sunlight now seem to reflect most accurately the sentiments of The Laughing Apple. “As you grow older, the sweetness of youth, as Wordsworth expressed in his poem ‘Splendour in the Grass’, get stronger,” says Yusuf. “Looking back and emotionally drawing on the themes of childhood possibilities and disappointments is what exemplifies this album, for me.”The new album also marks the return of Yusuf's longtime musical foil, Alun Davies. Davies, whose graceful acoustic guitar is an essential component of Yusuf's classic sound, first appeared on 1970’s Mona Bone Jakon and recorded and performed with Yusuf throughout the ‘70s. The Laughing Apple's newest songs — ‘See What Love Did to Me’, ‘Olive Hill’ and ‘Don't Blame Them’ — possess the reflective insight of a spiritual seeker and the melodic charm that made Yusuf beloved by millions during the ‘60s and ‘70s and still speak to a younger, wide-eyed generation.‘Mighty Peace’ is the first inspired song Yusuf wrote while still beating the folk-club path in London during the early ‘60s. The song laid fallow for more than 50 years, and, with a newly added verse, finally has made it onto an album. ‘Mary and the Little Lamb’ reflects a similar story: it is an unreleased song that existed only on an old demo, and it also has a new verse. ‘Grandsons’ updates ‘I've Got a Thing About Seeing My Grandson Grow Old’, which now has hung around long enough to fulfill its biographical destiny. (Yusuf is the beloved grandfather of eight little grandkids.) The original version appeared for the first time on the 2000 edition of The Very Best of Cat Stevens.Other highlights of The Laughing Apple include new versions of ‘Blackness of the Night’, ‘Northern Wind (Death of Billy the Kid)’, ‘I'm So Sleepy’ and the title track, four songs that appeared in their original incarnations on New Masters, a 1967 album largely unknown in the US.The album also contains ‘You Can Do (Whatever)’, a song originally intended for the film ‘Harold and Maude’ that remained unfinished until now.2017 is a milestone marking 50 years of Yusuf / Cat Stevens’ amazing musical history. In 1967, Decca released his debut album, Matthew and Son, on its Deram Records subsidiary.Yusuf returned to the stage at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre, right across from his father’s cafe, on November 20, 2016, with a reflective and deeply emotional delving into his ‘Attic’ of songs, anecdotes and memories. The unforgettable ‘A Cat’s Attic’ show and subsequent tour included his musical classics and global hits like ‘Wild World’, ‘Moonshadow’, ‘Peace Train’, ‘Morning Has Broken’ and ‘Oh Very Young’, which made him a radio staple during the ‘70s. The music of Yusuf / Cat Stevens will be the subject of a PBS Soundstage special in September.Yusuf’s music has established him as a timeless voice for all generations. His songs are used regularly in films and television shows, with "’Father and Son’ playing during a crucial scene in the blockbuster movie Guardians of the Galaxy 2.A recipient of The World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates' Man of Peace award and the World Social Award, Yusuf continues to support charities such as UNICEF, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Tree Aid through The Yusuf Islam Foundation in the UK.

Grizzly Bear Releases New Song And Video Today For "Neighbors" From Forthcoming Album 'Painted Ruins' (8/18, RCA)Under The Radar And Paste Quarterly Covers Hit Stands
WATCH VIDEO FOR NEW TRACK HERE: http://smarturl.it/GBNeighborsGrizzly Bear has released "Neighbors," the fourth new song from their forthcoming album 'Painted Ruins' (8/18, RCA). Click here to watch the video released today: http://smarturl.it/GBNeighbors
The band also covers the new issues of Under The Radar Magazine and Paste Quarterly, both of which hits stands later this month. Paste Quarterly says, "Grizzly Bear made an album for the times: something wild and alive, bucking assumptions and beaming color, their best yet," and in their 9/10 review of 'Painted Ruins," Under the Radar says "the album is the sound of a band cohering as never before with a formidable swagger."
"Neighbors" follows the release of three other tracks from 'Painted Ruins' including "Three Rings," "Mourning Sound" and "Four Cypresses," which NPR Music called "a simmering, moody reflection on the state of a world in chaos." Fans who preorder 'Painted Ruins' will receive all four tracks instantly.
'Painted Ruins' has earned early praise from Rolling Stone, who called the new music "spellbinding." The New York Times dubbed lead track "Three Rings" "insistent," and Pigeons & Planes called it "a sonically ambitious return." NPR Music called their single "Mourning Sound" "grand and focused, elegantly layered, delicate and dramatic," and SPIN declared, "Grizzly Bear strike gold."
'Painted Ruins' follows 2012's 'Shields,' which was a critical and commercial breakthrough. Debuting at #7 on the Billboard 200 and named the #1 Album of the Year by Apple iTunes, 'Shields' earned the band Pitchfork Best New Music and four star Rolling Stone reviews; performances on Colbert, Fallon, Letterman, Austin City Limits and Ellen; and sold out shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
