WIRE Announce USA Fall Tour Dates

WIRE Announce Fall Tour DatesCritically Acclaimed Album Silver/Lead out now on pinkflag Photo Credit: Mike Hipple
"With much of their recent material, Wire continues to keep true to themselves in a way that makes old fans stick around, while still freshening up their sound enough to engage new generations with each new decade of music." - Stereogum
"Silver/Lead is another timely record from a band with an unwavering eye for the present." - Noisey
Stream: Silver/Lead via Noisey
WIRE have announced its fall North American headline tour in support of its critically acclaimed studio album, Silver/Lead. The upcoming dates follow up the band’s successful West Coast tour and DRILL festivals in Los Angeles, Leeds and Berlin. WIRE will be touring the U.S. and Canada with the tour kicking off on September 16 in Chicago at The Metro and will include three shows in Brooklyn at Baby’s All Right. The band will also visit markets such as Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Toronto. All upcoming shows are listed below.
Silver/Lead is the 15th studio album from musical pioneers Wire. It arrived on the 40th anniversary of their debut performance. Yet it’s about as far from nostalgia as you could get. This is the sound of a uniquely addictive 21st century psychedelic post-punk.On Silver/Lead, Colin Newman and Matt Simms’ guitar work is alternately jagged and luminous, while bassist Graham Lewis’s ear-catching lyrics are vivid yet oblique. Meanwhile, drummer Robert Grey provides a virtual masterclass in percussive minimalism. But it’s how the various instruments mesh together that really counts. And Newman’s production creates a sonic space in which even the smallest gesture is accorded some recognition.Highlights include the optimistic dazzle of “Diamonds In Cups,” with its almost T. Rex-style buzz and chug, and the moody swing of “This Time.” Elsewhere on the musical spectrum, there’s the menacing widescreen grandeur of "Playing Harp For The Fishes" and breakneck-paced guitar pop of "Short Elevated Period."Wire are one of the world’s most ground-breaking bands, their influence acknowledged by bands as diverse as Blur, Sonic Youth, R.E.M. and Savages. But they have never been interested in exploiting past glories. For Wire, there is only ever one possible direction: forwards. So it’s perhaps not surprising that over recent years, they’ve played strings of sold-out shows, achieved career-best record sales, and been cited as a strong influence by yet another generation of bands.Wire’s last three albums garnered nothing but rave reviews. From 2013’s strangely beautifulChange Becomes Us (“It’s fantastic.” – Pitchfork) to the crackling motorik of 2015’s Wire (“It’s all really well turned, potent and crisp.” – The Guardian), and last year’s punchy mini-album Nocturnal Koreans (“It's a cracker and sounds defiantly modern.” – The Quietus). Consequently, although it may be being released on the band’s 40th anniversary, Silver/Lead is an album which has nothing to do with the past and everything to do with the future.  Wire Tour Dates  09.16 - Chicago, IL @ Metro09.17 - Detroit, MI @ El Club

DJ Shadow Unveils Surreal Visual For "Corridors" Feat. Academy Award-Winning Composer Steven Price

DJ Shadow Unveils Surreal Visual For "Corridors" Feat. Academy Award-Winning Composer Steven PriceWatch The Lead Video From Shadow's Surprise 'The Mountain Has Fallen' EP Via Pitchfork
"'Corridors' blends DJ Shadow's spaced-out industrial boom bap with Price's cinematic scope." - Rolling Stone

DJ Shadow has released an otherworldly visual for his ‘The Mountain Has Fallen’ EP-closer “Corridors,” featuring Oscar-winning composer Steven Price (Baby Driver / Gravity / Suicide Squad). The “Corridors” video comes on the heels of Shadow’s surprise ‘The Mountain Has Fallen’ EP (Mass Appeal Records), which also features collaborations with Nas and Danny Brown. Shadow recruited Steven Price, who he’s long been a massive fan of, to write and program the strings on “Corridors.” Watch the mystifying visual, directed by Dan Emmerson, via Pitchfork: http://bit.ly/2uHhacR"From the start of my last album, I envisioned collaborating with other instrumentalists who operate outside of the bass and hip-hop realms, ultimately working with the amazing Nils Frahm and Matthew Halsall.  Like many, I had always been enthralled by the soundtrack for the film 'Gravity,' and went about connecting with Steven purely as a fan.  I was overjoyed when the opportunity to combine on a song came to pass.  His ability to harness orchestral elements and join them with a sound design aesthetic made my contributions seem almost effortless, which is the mark of a fruitful partnership." – DJ Shadow, on “Corridors”“Turns out sometimes you should meet your heroes.  Working with Josh to create Corridors, hearing musical ideas and phrases come back to me twisted and skewed through the filter of his unique sensibilities, was an amazing experience.   The mark of a good collaboration is when the track heads off in a direction you could never have imagined when working on your own, and no one puts a track together like DJ Shadow.  It was an honour to work with him.” – Steven Price, on “Corridors”

Shadow’s four-song ‘The Mountain Has Fallen’ EP was released to acclaim earlier this month, including a Best Album of the Week designation from New York Magazine, a “release to hear now” selection by Entertainment Weekly and praise from Pitchfork, who proclaimed “Shadow’s history of fuck-what-you-think iconoclasm puts these collaborative highlights in a more musical context that pushes past simple optics.”

"Disconcerting synths, screeching guitars, and Trent Reznor's distinctive snarl: Must be new Nine Inch Nails," said Entertainment Weekly, which praised the new single "LESS THAN" as "another stellar NIN jam that doubles as anxiety-inducing freak-out and alt-rock radio catnip." The New York Times noted, "Its nervous electro pulse and intensifying salvos of guitar noise hark back all the way to the Nine Inch Nails of 'Head Like a Hole' from its 1989 debut album." NPR Music lauded its "cinematic pop sheen" while Noisey observed,"It's upbeat but dark and heavy in that signature NIN way, and Trent Reznor's vocals are as much of an aural razorblade as they've always been." Check out "LESS THAN" HERE

OMD Play 'Good Day New York', Mon. July 24th, First US TV in 25 Years + WYNC Soundcheck July 25th.

OMD PLAY 'GOOD DAY NEW YORK' MONDAY JULY 24th,
FIRST US TV IN 25 YEARS + WYNC SOUNDCHECK JULY 25th. TUNE IN!

'THE PUNISHMENT OF LUXURY' OUT 9/1/2017 ON WHITE NOISEWATCH & SHARE: OMD - "THE PUNISHMENT OF LUXURY"
WATCH & SHARE: OMD - "ISOTYPE"This Monday, July 25th, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark will play 'Good Day New York'. It will be the first time they've played U.S. Television in 25 Years. The performance will be live at 9:40 AM on Fox 5! The following day the band will be on WNYC soundcheck at 2 PM. Be sure to tune in for both performances!

With their 13th studio album ‘The Punishment Of Luxury’ out September 1st via White Noise Records, synth-pop pioneers Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark release new single and the title track impacting September 1st.'The Punishment of Luxury’ is written, recorded, produced and mixed by OMD – Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys- pairing crushing electro rhythms with characteristically serene melodies sounding unapologetically electronic.

The track and album are named after an 1891 painting by the Italian divisionist Giovanni Segantini that caught Andy’s eye. Andy explains, “Most people in the western world are materially better off than their predecessors ever were and yet we are unhappier. Now we have many possessions that we don’t need because we’ve been persuaded to buy. This is the punishment of luxury.”

Having played a triumphant sold out show at the Royal Albert Hall in May last year, OMD head back out on the road again this autumn for a string of must-see shows, including a show at The Roundhouse November 13th.

Synth-pop pioneers OMD return with their dazzling 13th studio album ‘The Punishment of Luxury’ which sees them combine the wistful nostalgia and idealized romance of their previous work while stepping out of their comfort zone. The LP is out September 1st on White Noise Records.

The follow up to the critically acclaimed ‘English Electric’ (released in 2013) ‘The Punishment Of Luxury’ is a daring collection of stylish synth pop and masterful songwriting which will certainly rank alongside their very best.

Written, recorded, produced and mixed by OMD – Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys – the album is the sound of a band in their prime. ‘On this album we have managed to make beautiful things out of noises and repetitive patterns’, explains Andy. ‘The trouble is, we just cant help but write a catchy melody!’

The album takes its name from an 1891 painting by the Italian Giovani Segantini and contains everything from the Kraftwerkian ‘Isotype’ and ‘Robot Man’ to the blue eyed soul ballads of ‘One More Time’ and ‘The View From Here’ as well as more traditional OMD songs like ‘Kiss Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Bang’ and the synth heavy title track.
Described by The Quietus as “not just one of the best synth bands ever – they are one of the best bands ever”, OMD’s influence has become ubiquitous. The xx, the Killers and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy have cited OMD as an inspiration, and the likes of Future Islands and Chvrches show traces of OMD’s DNA.

Sharkmuffin Premieres Spooky New Music Video "Factory" via TIDAL

SHARKMUFFIN

 PREMIERES MUSIC VIDEO via TIDAL"FACTORY"

WATCH  HERE

SPLIT CASSETTE WITH THE OFF WHITEOUT JULY 21VIA LITTLE DICKMAN

Sharkmuffin,  led by grunge-glam Brooklyn babes, Tarra Thiessen and Natalie Kirch, are consistently turning out new music before you even have time to get the old songs out of your head!” – BUST Magazine

“Brooklyn’s Sharkmuffin is the musical embodiment of Whitman’s famous adage, ‘I contain multitudes.”…like glitter dredged in hot, sticky tar.”
– The Le Sigh

Sharkmuffin are either the most glam garage band around, or the grungiest glam band around.” – NPR

“…new punks with old school sensibilities…this is a vicious band with plenty of teeth.” – Consequence of Sound

“Brooklyn’s Sharkmuffin play scuzzy, ornery glam-rock with a strut – think T. Rex by way of Hole, or perhaps a more acrid Sweet.” – CLYVYNT

SHARE/WATCH VIDEO FOR “FACTORY”

Sharkmuffin has teamed up with TIDAL to exclusively premiere their latest music video for the single, “Factory.” The video is styled in a fun silent movie setting that takes you onto a Victorian horror themed journey through the bands transgression in time as coming of age vampires who end up acquiring a factory and aim to protect it from a Donald Trump takeover.
TIDAL members can check out the video here: tidal.com/Sharkmuffin and you can embed it here: http://tdl.sh/SharkmuffinFactory

This past week, the rock duo performed on the TIDAL Rising Stage at  SummerScreen, Brooklyn’s free film and concert series.

“This video tells the story of women factory workers from the late 1900s who have been transformed into vampires and work in their factory throughout the 20th century until present day. At the end of the video, Donald Trump attempts to take over the factory that they worked at for over 100 years and gained the rights to own & run so, sadly, the vampire family devours him."

"The song "Factory" is about a young and naive factory worker who is in love with, and eventually has an affair with the factory owner. This film was shot by Eric Durkin, who lent us his office for the finale. We ran with this theme and then took it through the ages, starting with the turn of 20th century up until present day. Only we added vampires to the mix. The initial shots are of Tarra and I as Factory workers in the early 1900s. Vram (The Big Drops/ Wild Moon) is the owner of a fabric factory  and original nosferatu sire who bites Tarra, setting off multiple rounds of turnings and feedings. Davey (Lost Boy ?/ So So Glos) enters the picture in the 1940s, when Tarra and I are working on a can line during WWII. Davey's character is interested in purchasing the factory from then-owners and vampires Drew and Chris. By the end, we are in the current era and Tarra and I - the female vampires - are the business owners. It ends with a non-transformative consumption by the 2017 vampire family," says bassist Natalie Kirch.

Their band also celebrates their up-coming EP Split Cassettea split with psychedelic punk meets rock band The Off White. Split Cassette   will be released July 21 via Little Dickman records. Check out Sharkmuffin’s upcoming US tour dates below.

TIDAL’s commitment to connecting fans with their favorite musicians has spanned dozens of live streams, thousands of ticket giveaways, and an extensive array of exclusive content – including: TIDAL X 1015, a star studded benefit concert; TIDAL X live streams from Bon Jovi, Flogging Molly, Alicia Keys and more; exclusive first looks at content from indie artists, such as Eyelids, Guided by Voices, Fruit & Flowers and more; unique content including Nick Jonas’s Last Year Was Complicated, Rick Ross’ album annotations and more!
