Throbbing beats are punctuated with melodies, vocals floating in layers, their dreamy veil disguising a strong message. Strong and anything but stable. It’s all about contrast and confusion. “I definitely think I’ve found myself as an artist. I used to focus on my ‘sound’ but now I’m writing pop songs. I’m more confident with my vocals, which I used to hide under loads of layers and effects, and my lyrics have a message and a purpose. Before I used to just make them up to suit the voice.”Lead song ‘Genderland’ – the video addresses gender politics in a Garden of Eden constructed in her north London garden – marks the territory. I want my songs to jolt them into paying attention. But also to seduce them with melody. I’m not ashamed of pop music. Los Angeles-based band Whispertown will release I'm A Man on September 1 via Graveface Records. Whispertown has also announced a hometown record release show on September 1 at The Bootleg Theater. Tickets for the show are available HERE.
Today the band shared the title track from the upcoming release with Impose Magazine and the song is available to share via Soundcloud.
About the song Whispertown's Morgan Nagler says:
"I'm A Man" is an underground anthem for human beings. In a modern world built on comfort and convenience, where humans are becoming more and more isolated, living inside flat glass screens with a fickle and false sense of community, there comes a time to break out. I hope it will not be too late. In this pivotal moment, one foot in the quicksand, I reach out to all, holding space for this hope. I reach out not as a gender, or a skin tone. Not as a political party, or a religion. Not as an age or as an avatar, but as a man. A human. All for one and one for all. At the risk of sounding like a hippie optimist (which I am), love is all you need. Team Human. New Genes in Blue Jeans. We can change. In fact we are in a constant state of change. Empathy can turn the tides.
Whispertown is the latest iteration of the unique vision of Morgan Meyn Nagler (songwriter, lead vocals, guitar). What was once The Whispertown 2000 has morphed into a less structured version of itself, with Nagler’s unmistakable vocals leading a revolving cast of musicians and artists. I'm A Man (produced by Jake Bellows), set to be released September 1 on Graveface Records, marks Nagler’s return, and third full length release. After being diagnosed with a polyp on her vocal cord, and faced with the possibility of never singing again, Nagler discovered she is without a doubt a “lifer”, and married to song writing, for better and for worse. I'm A Man is a stripped back acoustic album, set in a naturally psychedelic world, where words reveal themselves in modern mantra - “New Genes in Blue Jeans”.
In various formations, Nagler and company garnered support slots for Jenny Lewis, The Breeders, Bright Eyes, She & Him, Maria Taylor, Rilo Kiley, Azure Ray, Conor Oberst and many more. The band soon caught the attention of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, inspiring the first signing to their own Acony Records. Shortly thereafter the band released 2008’s Swim, their debut release from Acony, followed by 2012’s Parallel (the first release under the Whispertown moniker).
Additionally, Whispertown's Morgan Nagler has traveled around the world playing her own music and has also worked countless co-writes with artists such as HAIM (“Falling”), Kim Deal (“The Root”,”Range on Castle”), Rilo Kiley (“Dreamworld”) and the Dave Rawlings Machine (“Sweet Tooth”) to name a few.

TOBACCO has an album of old stuff. In dealing with the CD plant he specifically asked for “wallet style packaging without the plastic tray.” He said he also wanted the vinyl to be silver “if possible” and that request had to be send to the vinyl plant. Today is not the release day.
“Wig Blows Off” clangs and stomps like World War III, “Piss Vader” also does that. Like a Moog piano on the fritz, “Old Man Kid” is like the sounds of World War III on a Psilocybin trip through the history of psychedelic music. If you were to listen to “Eye Panch” on drugs, most of what you heard would be reminisced when the drugs wore off. - All Things Go NYC-based, alt-rock singer-songwriter Talullah Ruff announces her debut, self-produced EP, What Is Honest, due out August 2017. The EP was self-recorded in various locations - Ruff's apartment, her friends' NYU dorm room, the studio at Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music and Brooklyn DIY studio space, Mama Coco's Funky Kitchen. The EP was mastered by Grammy nominated Tom Waltz. Today, Talullah Ruff shares her first single and title track, "What Is Honest" via Ladygunn , who describes the track as an "alt-rock tribute to questioning everything including yourself."
Reflection lies at the core of Ruff's art, her lyrics acting as mirrors for what she internalizes about herself and her experiences of dejection. She seeks to create sonic worlds for her listeners, while also attempting to forge refuge and connection. With over 200 unreleased songs and 2 unpublished novels to her name, What Is Honest represents a curated collection of her works from freshman year of high school to her sophomore year in college. Blending 1970s-esque production with 1990s alt-rock songwriting and aesthetics, Ruff has built her own brand of art rock, in which she seeks to blend each eclectic side of herself. Using piano and vocals to drive forward her heart-rendering lyrics, her music suggests a nostalgic nod to her inspirations, such as Fiona Apple, Jeff Buckley and Tori Amos.
The album artwork, drawn and painted by Ruff herself, evokes a sense of rawness and honesty. The image of a half naked women with a flower head - with no intention to instill any level of shock-value - was meant to embody the simplistic beauty of the human body and the natural forms taken for granted or warped by our own misconceptions. The red rose symbolizes the stigmas that come with womanhood and others' expectations and projections onto Ruff. EP tracks such as, "I Am Not," and title track, "What Is Honest" touch on these influences - both external and internal - that evoke negativity and anxiety, but push through the issues with intricate lyrics and brazen vocal melodies.

2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee YES has revealed additional tour dates for this summer's YESTIVAL outing with special guest Todd Rundgren and an opening set from Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy honoring the magic of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake, as well as a few special "Evening With YES" shows. New additions to the 30-date tour include San Diego, Reno, San Francisco,Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Cedar Rapids and Boston, among other cities. Kicking off August 4 in Greensboro, NC, YESTIVAL will travel throughout the U.S. and Canada until September 19, with stops in Brooklyn August 11 at the Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk and Los Angeles August 29 at the MicrosoftTheater. Tickets for all YESTIVAL dates are currently on sale, except for the new September 1, 17, 18 and 19 shows, which go on sale to the public this Friday, July 21.
