Grunge/Glam Queens Sharkmuffin premiere new single "Where's My Mimosa" via BUST
SHARKMUFFIN
"WHERE’S MY MIMOSA"PREMIERES VIA BUST
SPLIT CASSETTE WITH THE OFF WHITEOUT JULY 21VIA LITTLE DICKMAN
“ Sharkmuffin, led by grunge-glam Brooklyn babes, Tarra Thiessen and Natalie Kirch, are consistently turning out new music before you even have time to get the old songs out of your head!” – BUST Magazine
“Brooklyn’s Sharkmuffin is the musical embodiment of Whitman’s famous adage, ‘I contain multitudes.”…like glitter dredged in hot, sticky tar.”
– The Le Sigh“Sharkmuffin are either the most glam garage band around, or the grungiest glam band around.”
– NPR“…new punks with old school sensibilities…this is a vicious band with plenty of teeth.”
– Consequence of Sound “Brooklyn’s Sharkmuffin play scuzzy, ornery glam-rock with a strut – think T. Rex by way of Hole, or perhaps a more acrid Sweet.”
– CLYVYNT
STREAM + SHARE "WHERE’S MY MIMOSA"
Sharkmuffin is Tarra Thiessen and Natalie Kirch, a duo of Brooklynite sirens bred from the waves of the Jersey shore. Influenced by everyone from Nirvana to The Ronettes, Sharkmuffin adds a unique jagged edge onto ‘60s beach pop meets ‘90s alt sound, a genre lovingly dubbed “opti-mystic glam-grunge.” With several cross-country tours (including many return trips to SXSW) and no shortage of killer tracks, Sharkmuffin has been creating a veritable whirlpool of musical chaos.
Their latest installment is the stick-your-tongue-out cheeky “Where’s My Mimosa” from their up-coming EP Split Cassette, a split with psychedelic punk meets rock band The Off White. The tracks screams out for intersectional feminism. Thiessen explains to BUST, “Lyrically in ‘Where's my Mimosa?’ I poke fun at myself for feeling like an annoying white girl who can afford to occasionally go to brunch and eat avocado toast. In today's world where it seems like many feminist indie rock bands are a group of, or include cute slim white women who intentionally or unintentionally use their sex appeal to further their careers, it's important to acknowledge this privilege and realize how painful it is to continue reinforcing these standards. Feminism is for all women (and men) and we need to support more diverse images of women and work towards a more inclusive music community.
I am very thankful for the life I have, and believe women should be able to express themselves in any way they want, but I am also self-aware of those who aren't as lucky and hope we can create an open dialogue with our music in discussing issues like these."
Split Cassette will be released July 21 via Little Dickman records. Check out Sharkmuffin’s upcoming US tour dates below.

'ZONE ON NINE' LP OUT NOW
WATCH & SHARE: BONZIE - "If I Could Reach You" Live Video
“Not every musician can earn the praises SPIN, Paste and The New York Times, all by the time they turn 22. But BONZIE is clearly not just any musician.” - The 405
"Delicacy and drama, surrender and anger, made a riveting combination when Bonzie performed” - The New York Times
“Her self-harmonizing is masterful... talent for moving seamlessly between gentle folk-inspired verses and edgier rock-n-roll riffs” - Vogue
“Stunning… BONZIE has shown a consistent refusal to be pinned down to a genre or simplified descriptions of the kind of music she makes." - Chicago Tribune
"The way certain notes bend on the Chicago songwriter’s latest tune only draw you in closer as you wonder 'What’s that sound?'" - Paste
"Gorgeous sonic palette that's hard to pinpoint but instantly alluring, defined by complex string arrangements and jazzy waves of electronic melodies." - i-D / VICE Today, BONZIE shares a new live video for "If I Could Reach You" via The 405, who call it an "an absolutely spellbinding performance." The track is from her recently released LP Zone on Nine . You can purchase the album digitally and stream it here. The second album from Chicago-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist BONZIE, Zone on Nine pulls off the sublime feat of feeling both intensely intimate and otherworldly in scope. “All of my songs basically start as a conversation I’m having with myself alone in my room,” says 21-year-old Nina Ferraro, who’s created under the moniker of BONZIE since age 17. “It’s how I process and interpret things that have happened to me or in life in general; it’s my way of trying to understand the world.”Throughout Zone on Nine, Ferraro eschews the confessional singer-songwriter approach and claims her role as a fiercely honest observer and commentator who delivers her lyrics with powerful abandon. That self-possessed artistry has earned acclaim from the likes of Spin, Vogue, and Paste, as well as led to praise in the pages of the New York Times (“Delicacy and drama, surrender and anger, made a riveting combination when BONZIE performed,” wrote chief popular-music critic Jon Pareles of a SXSW performance). At the same time, Zone on Nine finds BONZIE greatly expanding her sonic palette—formed from inspirations as eclectic as Tchaikovsky, Gil Scott-Heron, Judee Sill, and the score to Disney’s Mulan—and creating a more intricately composed take on surrealist pop.In carving out that sound, Ferraro traveled to L.A. and England to record, discovering that each surrounding lent a strange new dimension to Zone on Nine. “Being in those different environments let me take my music to places it’d never been before,” she says. “It helped bring different colors and contrast to the record, which is so important to me. I love the contrast between chaos and stillness, and how those two things can exist in the same place.”Kaleidoscopic in texture and spiked with startling intensity, Zone on Nine opens with the jagged guitar riffs and measured fury of “Crescent.” That intensity sustains for the dusky urgency of songs like “Combback,” and for the synth-laced title track’s anthemic determination (“Maybe you’re a horse head hanging on a harlot wall/You’re not gonna frame me/You’re not gonna take me down”). Featuring musical contributions from Adrian Utley of Portishead, Zone on Nine is also instilled with moments of ethereal serenity: the spectral haze of “If I Could Reach You,” the sleepy waltz of “Tiny,” the cascading piano lines and lilting strings of “Nettling.” And on its penultimate track “Mica Mori,” Zone on Nine unfolds into a seven-minute-long epic shot through with soulful vocal work, swirling guitar tones, and lyrics that attest to the easy magic of bending reality (“I make it summertime in my eyes”).Produced by Ferraro, in collaboration with Jonathan Wilson (Father John Misty, Conor Oberst) and Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, Youth Lagoon), Zone on Nine follows BONZIE’s recently released double singles As The Surface Rose and How Do You Find Yourself, Love? On the title track to the former, Ferraro spins a beautifully sprawling reverie from a song first composed on “this old piano I grew up with, the day before it was going off to someone else,” as she explains. “I was in this unfurnished house—the last bones of the house I grew up in—with literally only myself, this piano, and walls.” Merging orchestral flourishes with electronic experimentalism, the self-produced “As The Surface Rose” is paired with lyric-free B-side “Half Full” (a sparse and dreamlike track recorded at Wilco’s famed Chicago studio The Loft).Meanwhile, on the companion piece How Do You Find Yourself, Love?, BONZIE trades her electronically sculpted textures for crushing drum work and heavy guitar riffs. Recorded by Steve Albini (Nirvana, PJ Harvey), the abrasive yet graceful “How Do You Find Yourself, Love?” sets Ferraro’s philosophical musings to a post-rock backdrop both gloriously chaotic and stunningly lucid. That visceral power also infuses “Back to an Insurmountable wall,” the single’s hypnotically shape-shifting instrumental B-side.Ferraro’s multidimensionality traces back to her earliest days in making music, which included teaching herself to play guitar at age 9. “I had no idea what I was doing— there was no awesome guitar-playing aunt to teach me, except in my imagination—so I just put my fingers together in a way that made sounds,” she recalls. “It felt natural to me, now it’s just a part of how I live.” Ferraro soon wrote her first song, and several years later adopted the moniker of BONZIE. “There was something about [creating under my own name] that felt egotistical to me, and music was never that sort of pursuit,” said Ferraro in an interview with the Chicago Tribune. “BONZIE feels a lot better to go under, not only because it’s a pseudonym but also because it doesn’t subscribe to a language. There isn’t a conventional definition of BONZIE, and it’s more something where I can become its meaning.”By age 12, Ferraro had begun performing regularly and quickly became a fixture in Chicago’s club circuit. Soon after releasing her debut album—whose lead single “Data Blockers” was hailed by Spin for its “narrow vocals, wordless refrains, and furious chords”—she captivated audiences with a highly lauded performance at SXSW. She’s also played with Iron and Wine, Blonde Redhead, and Neon Trees, in addition to appearing at such major festivals as Milwaukee’s Summerfest and the CMJ Music Marathon. In tracking the path from her first time songwriting to the continent-crossing production of Zone on Nine, Ferraro notes that a certain sense of purpose has endured in her artistry. “I’m always open to taking the song wherever it wants to go—more like I’m a vessel for the song itself, rather than a person who’s actually making the song,” she says. And with Zone on Nine, in all its unbridled grandeur, each listen illuminates the unending wonder that’s sparked so much of her songwriting. “I think we’re here to experience things and express our experience, and to notice and enjoy how we each have our own different perspective,” says Ferraro. “I feel obligated to participate in life that way, on a very visceral level. To me there’s a rhythm that already exists in the world, and I want to be a part of that.”

Samantha Urbani Announces Debut EP, Shares New Track "Hints & Implications"
SAMANTHA URBANI
SHARES NEW TRACK "HINTS AND IMPLICATIONS" VIA THE FADER
TAKEN FROM DEBUT EP "POLICIES OF POWER"RELEASED ON URU / LUCKY NUMBER
(Credit: Zooey Jolivet)LISTEN HERE: https://soundcloud.com/samantha-urbani/hints-implications "Urbani hasn't lost her creative spark... grooves are more sinuous and the lyrics just as cutting" SPIN "Heavy, shimmering...smoldering" Gorilla Vs Bear Samantha Urbani may be best known as the front-woman for conceptual punk pop chart crashers Friends but, now with her long awaited solo project, she is about to cut her own unique swathe through the music landscape all over again. Until now, Samantha Urbani has been teasing us with sporadic drops of tantalizing pop gems - from the urban strut of "U Know I Know", to the sparkling, irresistible rush of "1 2 3 4" and, most recently, the RnB infused "Go Deeper". Now, Urbani is about to unleash the full scale of her brilliantly skewed pop vision with her debut solo EP,Policies of Power. "Hints and Implications", which premiered via The FADER, is the bold opener, a future anthem with a soaring chorus that is set to turn heads at sixty paces.
The FADER
called it "stellar" and described it as having "'80s-inspired guitars hotter than the July sun". Drawing on influences as varied as New Order and Nu Metal, the song itself, though insanely infectious, is a simmering tangle of barely contained frustration. Urbani explains: "at its core its about the ontology of truth - whether interpersonal communication/"honesty" is even possible, considering the subjectivity of our individual reality-perception. but surface level its really about that breaking point where you stop trying with someone when you can't even get a motherfuckin text back." Writing, recording and producing the EP with a number of key collaborators, including co-producer Sam Mehran, in several different bedrooms and basements in LA and NYC, "Policies of Power" is both a remarkably assured and sleek statement of intent for Urbani, as well as a sly clarion call for listeners to dissemble and question the dynamics of power and communication. With this EP Urbani has well and truly declared herself a force of nature on the pop landscape. Hints and Implications will be digitally available July 19th. "Policies of Power" EP is to be released on August 18th but is available to pre-order now, on a limited edition transparent colored vinyl run of just 300 copies, The EP will be released by Lucky Number, in-conjunction with Samantha's label URU,

The menu of shaken and stirred concoctions spans six bars and twelve cocktails, representing both new and iconic watering holes in the city. These include:
Alembic, one of the original pioneers in San Francisco’s craft cocktail movementHomestead, a Victorian-style parlor barHorsefeather, with throwback concoctions playfully named after wine coolers from the 80s and 90sPacific Cocktail Haven, new to the city’s cocktail scene and loved for its provocative menu Trou Normand, a favorite for its laser-like focus on French brandiesWhitechapel, a celebration of the wonder of gin from the team behind Smuggler’s Cove
With everything from Long Rhum Buck to The Brown Wolf on the menu, cocktails will hit all of the right notes using ingredients like muddled shiso, noccino and salted watermelon juice. Drinks are priced a la carte and available for purchase to those 21+. Cocktail Magic is located within McLaren Pass, in close proximity to the sugary confections of Choco Lands and the wild performances of Gastro Magic. Deerhoof release new track feat. Awkwafina for Adult Swim Singles Program
DEERHOOF PREMIERES NEW ALBUM SINGLE VIA THE ADULT SWIM SINGLES PROGRAM
MOUNTAIN MOVES OUT SEPTEMBER 8TH ON JOYFUL NOISE RECORDINGS STREAM "YOUR DYSTOPIC CREATION DOESN'T FEAR YOU" AT ADULTSWIM.COM.SINGLES

Deerhoof have released a new single "Your Dystopic Creation Doesn't Fear You" feat. Queens, NY rapper Awkwafina available now at AdultSwim.com/Singles. The band will release their new album Mountain Moves on September 8th through Joyful Noise Recordings. The new single follows the release of "I Will Spite Survive (ft. Jenn Wasner)," which premiered on Democracy Now!
Deerhoof provided Stereogum the following statement on the new track:
"In the span of 10 short days last April, Prince passed away, and Bill Clinton shouted down a small group of black women who dared question the morality of 90s legislation with which he ushered in the era of unprecedented mass incarceration that continues to this day. Something about the random concurrence of Prince's glowing obituaries and Clinton's elitist intimidation tactics seemed to point at an absurd contradiction at the heart of America's treatment of its citizens of color. Fortunately a favorite writer, The Guardian's great Steven W. Thrasher, helped make sense of these events in his crucial commentaries: "Prince broke all the rules about what black American men should be" and" How dare Bill Clinton shout over Black Lives Matter protesters? "
Now over a year has passed. Many Americans, suddenly in search of strategies for surviving state repression, are turning away from witless neoliberal politicians who exploit fear to amass more power for themselves, and towards those vulnerable communities who have responded to a history of violence not with submission, but with humor, creativity, anger, and love. The song we are debuting today grew out of these observations. Strictly speaking it is not the first Awkwafina-Deerhoof collaboration, as both Satomi and Greg have guested on "My Vag" onstage. But this call-and-response is our first co-composition. Enjoy!"
The new album consists of 12 originals and 3 covers, featuring other collaborations with Stereolab's Læticia Sadier, Juana Molina, Xenia Rubinos, Matana Roberts, and more. For over 20 years, Deerhoof has been an unparalleled force in modern music. The band's fearless inventiveness has made them one of the most inspiring and important groups making music today. Mountain Moves is their latest studio album following the 2016 release of The Magic.

Lee Ranaldo Unveils Video For "New Thing"; New Tour Dates
LEE RANALDO
UNVEILS VIDEO FOR "NEW THING"
NEW ALBUM ELECTRIC TRIM
OUT SEPTEMBER 15
LEE RANALDO has unveiled the video for “New Thing,” the second track to be taken from his brand new album
Electric Trim
, out on September 15. Also announced today are details of a North American tour taking place later this year. A full itinerary is available below.
Directed by Naomi Yang (founding member of Galaxie 500, Yang has directed videos for Richard Youngs and Julia Holter, amongst others), it sees Ranaldo travelling through New York City and holds a mirror to our current all-consuming obsession with smartphones and small screens. Watch it atStereogum now.
Talking about the track and video, Ranaldo says "I’ve described ‘New Thing’ as ‘my song about the Internet’ - about our thousands of ‘friends’ and the obsession with accumulating ‘likes.’ When Naomi and I began discussing ideas for the video we knew we wanted to reference that subject matter but didn’t want to do so in any heavy-handed way. I told her I’d like to be a character of some sort rather than ‘guy singing with guitar’ and she found ‘Buster,’ as we dubbed the JVC 3100R “Television/Radio Pyramid Capsule Unit” on eBay. You wouldn’t believe what a cool old useless piece of outdated technology like that sells for these days!”
Naomi Yang goes on to explain, “We didn’t have to do anything more than hit the streets of New York to find the familiar scenario of everyone out and about glued to their screens. And so Lee, although he was carrying around a cumbersome vintage screen, was not so out of place. Some people noticed him, many did not at all. The idea of a ‘New Thing’ has another association for me. Lee and I actually first met all the way back in 1989 when I was in Galaxie 500 and he was in Sonic Youth – and I wanted to capture the personal nature and energy of his new projects while giving a nod to the past. In the video you can catch a glimpse of Lee’s paintings in his studio, of the Sonic Youth tape archive…and you can dive deep into the hypnotic sounds of his ‘New Thing.’”

Electric Trim was recorded in New York City and Barcelona in collaboration with producer Raül ‘Refree’ Fernandez and extends the work of Ranaldo's solo canon, the most recent being his 2013 album, Last Night On Earth.
Through his collaboration with Fernandez, Ranaldo moves into some rich new sonic territories and production techniques, experimenting with electronic beats and samples alongside live players.
Ranaldo is a co-founder of Sonic Youth, a visual artist, producer and writer. In addition to Fernandez, he worked with several special guests on Electric Trim, including Sharon Van Etten who sings on six of the tracks and duets on “Last Looks” and Kid Millions (aka Man Forever) as well as longtime friend and collaborator Nels Cline (Wilco). In addition, the album features Ranaldo’s band The Dust (fellow Sonic Youth member Steve Shelley, guitarist Alan Licht, and bassist Tim Luntzel).
Ranaldo collaborated with award winning New York author Jonathan Lethem (Motherless Brooklyn/The Fortress of Solitude) for lyrics on six of the songs. The American artist Richard Prince, who previously painted the sleeve for Sonic Youth’s 2004 album Sonic Nurse, created the artwork for the album.
A feature length documentary, HELLO HELLO HELLO : LEE RANALDO : ELECTRIC TRIM , on the year-long making of the album by filmmakers Fred Riedel and Jerry Fried will be touring select film festivals in Europe and the US in 2017. Confirmed festivals include the New Jersey Film Festival on album release day, September 15, Fonomo Music & Film Festival in Poland and Gig Harbor Film Festival in Seattle – both in October – and London Doc ‘n Roll festival in November. Further details to follow.

The song, written by Cliff, was produced by Steven "Lenky" Marsden and is distributed by Zojak World Wide. "The lyrics and uplifting nature in the video mirror how I see the world," says Cliff. "It's all about living in the present, the here and now, and acknowledging precious time here on earth."WATCH "LIFE" HERE:
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Grammy award winning singer has spread his artistry globally through many oceans, rivers and cultures, with mainstream notability from his widely recognized musical masterpiece "Many Rivers To Cross."
