There are zero SciFi elements in this story.

It's merely a fiction novel with time travel barely in as a plot device.

Having trouble believing this is the same author as Snow Crash.

It seems Mr. Stephenson has switch from optimistic science fiction cyberpunk to reality speculative near future fiction. But he's so right about so much regarding the direction and zeitgeist of american culture right now.

How can I give this a 5-star? The writing is immaculate. Plot good.

But a fictional book about child rape.... repulses me.

This is 2 books shoved into 1.

The writing style complements the cold wintery bruskness one would expect from someone trying thi stay warm. Imagery so graphic, it rivals comics. A truly gifted writer.

The style does not do well with long reads though.

Halfway through, things are starting to get interesting.

This is really dumb so far.

This is a 5-star read for me so far.

Mystery. Mythology. LGBT relationships without it being the focus of an AIDS plot line, etc...

This 6 year old dealing with cancer stuff is over the top emotional.

The rationale 'A God who creates cancer also creates something equally good' is anger inducing.

One of this book's major themes is the ever expanding realm of scientific knowledge.

I think it's so cool that this book was written and refers to 9 planets when we still thought Pluto was a planet

This is so important. Should be in every American social studies text book.
