so finally got my car back from the repair shop, after a week, with Bleak House in the audioplayer :-(
Luckily everything is where i left it, Esther still to good for the world, Richard still spiraling downwards to an unhappy end and unfortunately it's the end for Jo's short unhappy life.

I think i'm getting a grip of what's going on (and what's going to happen). It's not uninteresting, It's well written with engaging characters, but i'm not totally sure I'm in the target group for this novel.

a wonderful story that mixes the absurd and grotesque with a feel good bittersweet romance all wrapped in a deep love for opera.
I'm hooked

It’s like the first 3 books was just an introduction and the series really starts here, now Perdergast is really the main character and totally pisses everybody off, loving it.

What can I say it’s Dickens, an army of exaggerated characters with hilarious names, acting pompous, noble, stupid and at times funny.

Contrary to other Dickens I have read, it’s easy to see this as a episode serial and as a novelty it has an unreliable narrator in Esther.

The sci-fi and fantasy books has for a period taken totally over so it’s time for a cold turkey, so for the rest of 2019 it’s off limits.

We are in familiar Dickens territory, the wonderful fluent language, the friendly (and not so friendly) jabs at society at the time and a full cast of colorful characters.

Just completed part 1

My second Boyne novel is off with a flying start, the characterisation is brilliant and the narrative fluent.

Stuck in an airport and this is the only book from my to read list available. Pretty good so far, classic Shute reminds me a little of early Archer

This series gets progressively better for each volume, i was far from impressed by volume 1, more or less convinced by volume 2 (which I might have underrated a little) and this one is amazing so far.

Complete book 1 - the sword in the stone

In many ways a 5 star experience - but a few flaws drags it down:
1. it's clearly aged, what might have been refreshing and new a decade ago looks involuntary comic now.
2. The narrative sits somewhere between a children's book and an adult novel without ever becoming one or the other
3. it's to long.

Amazing how close the Walt Disney adaption followed at least the first book, I can see every character before me and it’s probably 20 since I saw the movie.

So far the best in the series yet and a slight change in perspective.
Where Pendergast in the previous books mainly appeared as described by one of the supporting characters, we now get real 1. person narrative from him and it suits the story.

A Very different experience from the tv-series, here the point of view is from the perspective of a young boy with all that special magic that we all see our childhood memories though. The family is still present but with far less slapstick and absurdly situations than in the tv show, but somehow more real.

I recently watched a charming new tv adaptation of this book, but Kevin's repeated praise of the brilliance of the books made me consider the originals and so far i'm not disappointed.

Amazing, funny and touching.

And hilarious to hear the narrator saying “Üwe” in a very un-Swedish singsong way.
