My god this book is hard for me to read. Too close to home. But I love this line: "I blamed the Bible, when its words were not at fault, only the way they're interpreted by those too willing to wield them like chain saws, cutting others off at the knees." At the end of vol 23, there's a joke about Watchmen that made me laugh for 2 minutes nonstop. I hated the pirate crap in Watchmen bc it made no sense to the plot and the little boy makes a comment about it. I died, and rejoiced that other people found that annoying.

I'm seeing a major trend that I think is very indicative of our nation's history pre-Civil War. Really from Jackson to Lincoln, with the exception of Polk, we had nothing but ineffectual presidents who passed slavery and preserving the union around like a game of hot potato. A game with dire consequences that Lincoln alone had to deal with. This book's structure helped me realize that.

I'm just going to say this now. If any of the stories in here intrigue you, go to cracked.com, use the search function, and look them up. They are much more detailed on the website. Pierce's son's death, the Taylor cherry incident, and Quincy Adams' daily nude swims all come to mind. Sorry, cracked fangirling. But I guess that's why I'm reading Daniel O'Brien's book...
