First, I'm getting both female MCs some Chapstick, because their lips are always burning and tingling. Second, how does she know Yamaraj is old? He never told her that (I don't think).

Oh, Scott. Brilliant plots. Absolutely shit for character names again. Why are her friends Carla and Sagan? Did you just pick up a science book and decide "hey, that's quirky enough to work"? Really?

Time to fully submerge myself into another whimsical and amazing Westerfeld-created universe. Today is a good day.

So Crespeau is, like, 38, and she calls him the creepy old guy. That's the most teenage thing I've seen in this entire book.

This book is so completely unrealistic. Teens don't go to the opera of their own volition, they aren't that independently cultured, and they don't know the plot of Orpheus and Eurydice well enough to quote the aria. Sooooo fake.

Oh God, she's explaining emoticons. She doesn't look like she's a 75 yr old grandma in her author pic, but plastic surgery can work wonders...

Awkward teen dialogue about sex that would never happen in real life. I feel like these books make me play YA Lit Trope bingo...

Lev Grossman is my favorite so far. Awesome names of mythical weapons of badassery. I approve.

"Money I had long spent on therapy to deal with the things he said to me like, 'Belle, sit on my face and I'll guess your weight." SERIOUSLY?! This book is so NOT juvenile fiction with a sentence like that and the number of swear words. Teens, yeah, but not Tweens and older kids. No way.

"A long-time African American congregant"--was he a congregant for a long time? Or black? Misplaced modifiers are fun, especially with unnecessary indications of race.

"Several small glasses--the kind you fill with alcohol, not water." SuperChristianAwkwardTemperanceLanguageGo! Let's fix this: "several shot glasses sat in the sink." "The sink was filled with brandy snifters." "Several cocktail tumblers sat unwashed in the sink." Literally any sentence like this.
