Wow so good! We started right away and I loved that. The prologue was plenty reminder. I love this world and we meet a bunch of new characters and beings. Her father is so rigid and unknowingly contributed to the new threat. I love how she stood up for the girl with no face! Talk about fierce.

The Girl Who Gave a Knight a Kiss Out of Necessity
Hahaha ... In far too many tales female characters are punished for their boldness and strength. Not here.

The One-Handed Murderer
Powerful independent women are often assumed to be an invention of our modern times. ... Nevertheless the moral of the tale clearly is: women, don’t trust your men to protect you. Take their pistols and do it yourself.
Poor dear!

Uh wow! I loved this story. Talk about making his own fortune! To me it was like a Jack and the beanstalk in nature but with wildly more unique imagery.

The Six Swans
The magic of fairy tales is not in their words. It’s in the images their words summon.

I loved this one! I vaguely knew it but don’t remember ever reading it before now. I love how sacrificing their sister was for so many years!

Bluebeard
The central motif of the original tale is in fact obedience and the unveiling of secrets. I was never quite sure what this tale was supposed to teach women. That they should accept their husband’s secrets—even if that secret is a room with the bloody corpses of their predecessors—so they don’t endanger marital bliss?

Funny this didn’t end horribly like I thought t would. Ivan eventually listened to the wolf and followed his directions exactly. And for disobeying the times before he got to meet a beautiful princess and fall in love!

They find an adult one of the glowing eggs. It’s a bat like creature and the Tokki group kill it. They go down a hole and find a nest. A Tokki decides they are too cowardly to attack and is the guinea pig to check. They go through and up to another realm! Mimorin likes Haruhiro!

She was punished hahahaha really the end was more satisfying than I thought it would be! She’s forced to become the arcanist because the library won’t have her! Hero survived! Leto went to heaven. Rami stuck around the library. The crazy Uriel was ripped apart like with her mentor.

Then we get a lecture about how if someone wants to sacrifice themselves (ie commit suicide) then we should allow it. Yeah no. And the heaven stuff makes me sick.

Just as long and drawn out as the first 44%... we learn Claire is a really morally grey character who also happens to be a hypocrite. It’s okay to free her own book but not anyone else’s. She even pulled apart her predecessor to protect the book. Of course Andras is there to get the codex for himself and Hero isn’t a hero (both obvious).

A cross between a Western and Eastern fairy tale.

Kotura, Lord of the Winds
I love this story, although it is one of those tales that praises a girl for doing as she is told. ... She also wins it because she’s compassionate and doesn’t put herself first. She is courageous and able to fight her fear.
I loved this about her too. Compassion is never wasted!

It celebrates the arts and the belief that what artists create holds the spark of life and can save us from monsters.

Introduction
Oh, all those helpless princesses and scheming old women, all those child-eating witches and stepmothers! Does any literary mirror reflect more unflinchingly, how cruelly women are judged and vilified when they rebel against the parts men want them to play?

Wow. I love how this is written. That first chapter when we first meet Jun when they first met. How cut up he was about the pup. It was so evocative. Then his easy, shallow, American life where he didn’t feel strongly and was without compassion. Then his cousin. It was a life changing event! Smart how he convinced his parents to allow him to go.

This part with Alex went really fast and didn’t linger on the circumstances that allowed Ama to get close to him again. We meet the gangster from the beginning again as I suspected which was fun. He chooses her conveniently allowing her the access she needed. Alex reveals he loved her back then which she can’t believe because of what she read from his mind that day.

I’m really enjoying this! I feel like it is the part we were lacking in the first book. I like Ama and the fact one choice had her careening in a direction she had thought she didn’t want to go. Now she has to face her fear... Alex! I’m excited for where this goes. She’s been training to strengthen her abilities too. And the face off with Tara-Ama was scary!

I have many secrets. My real name is Ama. I was a subject in a government experiment creating weapons out of children. Two years ago, the ship meant to transport me to a new facility crashed into the Bohai Sea. In the official reports, there were no survivors.

143 - So yeah Ken comes back, finds Naki dead, the hideout empty, finds Suzuya and then next page is dismembered. He’s lying there thinking back on all his missteps... and decides he has to see Touka again and rips Hazumi’s face off and feeds on the oggai. Which seems to be Furuta’s plan? At least one frame acts like this... Furuta screams eat baby and in the distance some black stuff! Totally don’t get it...
