1 - we meet Mother and Mila. Mother is a witch who got rid of technology and uses dragon like monsters as ships. She is worried about a rebel faction. A hound is troubling her. Necromancy spells are her power. Mila is a little girl, her dad insists they life free on the mountain. She wants to declare for mother but dad says no! She wishes for robots and witnesses an explosion.

Not sure what the other 25 pages are... the ARC was only 103 pages.

5 - Love Raijin! Love the brother action, it warms my heart. Karana comes and the animal clans give them refuge. It’s a starting point and a great introduction to this world! I really enjoyed the different characters and factions. They each contributed greatly to the fight!

4 - the battle of the sector is on! Father doesn’t find his hidden child and is pissed. Rai is fighting his way in. Karana has to decide if she’ll go warrior or stay with the status quo. Lula puts up the net defense that father can infiltrate to buy Rai time... father thinks he’s won. There is a moment when Raijin seemed pained by the cost of the war...

3 - Rai finds the animal tribe that has been raiding their sector. And wins a truce deal against father. Karana and Gilad find the green people and Ana their person who gets things for them outside. Father gets the manufacturing sector that survived up and running.

2 - Karana is the geomancer. We learn of a religious group that ran earth. I don’t like it 🤢 but they found Raijin another son of Father. The Bloodshot father uses the nano tech to almost kill his son. They go down and Karana wanders off and Gilad goes after her... the earth leads them down... to a girl?!

1 - Well we got a lot in one vol... we have three major players and some women that a pretty neat. Bloodshot, who can hear the cries of help from the fallen sectors... he found Father, an AI who is thought to be gone. Rai is a cross breed human and poitronic, a slave race. He brought down the sectors back to earth. And Gilad an immortal who protects the girl connected to earth.

I find Julia quite unlikable but also sympathetic. She doesn’t fit with her culture and because of that can’t pretend either. I was sad that Olga didn’t give her any clues when Alice that they were more similar than Julia thought.

GAHHH I HATE LEYLA! This was so poorly written... I don’t think I could read this author again. I’m pretty accepting of authors knowing they’re growing and honestly writing doesn’t get easier just because you’ve done it before... but this was bad.

A whole lot of nothing plot...

Yeah she really has to know the truth! And she goes on for a while more saying it can’t be true.

It’s so different to the official account; if our government’s record of the event were false, surely there’d be some trail of the truth? I can’t wrap my head around it. The government has lied about other things, too. They have. They do. But I can’t do anything about it. I just wish I could forget all this, dammit. All of it. I want to block it out. I need to. I need to focus fully on Papa.

All I ever wanted was to know the truth. No matter what. No matter how difficult or complicated something was, I always believed a starting point for fixing it would be to have the whole bloody truth. Not knowing always seemed worse.

Rolls eyes... the twist was so obvious! Ari is the enemy... I really HATE Leyla’s reaction to everything she learns! It’s no wonder Bia thought her a spy. Yes your grandpa knew you couldn’t take the truth! And you should know it too! You fought Ari every step of the way about the truth.

GAHHH I hate this girl. There was a battle with As on the ship. They stop at some sudden coordinates to find her dads “friend “

Ridiculous crap! Contradicts itself... then there’s the fact earlier she said she knew where to Look!! 💩💩💩 so contrived it’s not funny. I can’t believe this isn’t a debut it’s so horribly written. It’s not even good for middle grade readers... 🤬

Despite Theo’s device now running smoothly, remaining discreet in the heightened climate seems impossible. We cannot be stopped, though. I need to get us across the border and then on to Grandpa’s place in King’s Lynn. Oooh hoo this boring, nothing is happening book finally has something. Anthropoid attack! She also found Ari on her ship. She’s really exaggerate and makes me mad. She did leave town without a clue! I couldn’t believe when she said she hadn’t...

Okay I thought the 10% before this 5% was bad but it was a breathe of fresh air compared to this pile of boringness and contrivance! It’s so contrived and reads false. She’s heading out of London even without the right papers because she’s certain it’s the right thing! With no clues or proof to substantiate her feelings.

GAHHHH even the race was ho hum.... I didn’t feel excited at all... then her prize is rejected to release her father. And she finds out her grandpa knew all along! Uhhhh jerk why didn’t you tell her before so sh3 could ask for a request that might have helped them!? So stupid and sooooo very contrived.

GAAAAAHHHHH how can this be so boring?! The race just started... but it doesn’t really matter this is underwater... it reads as if they’re topside. She even has a dog! It wasn’t even exciting when she became racer 100.

Okay well what a trite ending. Why couldn’t we have something as original as the world? We have one twin as sweet as pie and the other a total bad girl... why ruin that? For love? GAHHHHHH what a waste. I did like the twist with one of Odessa’s followers, that made sense to me.

Haidee thinks Arjun is dead but he’s paralyzed from the scorpions poison! It was cute how her bared her heart to him. They find a village at the base of the mountain where the abyss is!

Yup Odessa is officially looney and evil! Lan even sees it now. She had her shadows rip apart a devoted who tried to escape.

It’s still not clear why the breaking happened even though we understand more about what should have happened... then H and A run into really large scorpions! Odessa is quite evil now... which is sad.

Lan finally believes Odessa and they go to find the 6th galla... afterward they rip each other’s clothes off for sex... Gracea finds them and is going to arrest Lan and Odessa goes crazy and takes her light gate.
Haidee and Arjun discuss what she found in the book. And we learn why Odessa has been changing. Turns out she’s going to have to sacrifice someone she loves to get the last galla gift...

They make it to a forest with the Liangzhu Sonfei’s help. They find a statue guarding a hot springs and bathe together. We learn how he lost his hand to his fire when he was 10. Some nomads killed his friend so he killed them.

Odessa forces some of the ungated into being gated much to their delight. They pass into the spirit lands where Lan fought before. They fight them off but one falls mortally wounded and dies that night. She intimates that one of them caused her injury but Odessa hushes her and doesn’t realize. Is it Cathei?! Side effect of being raised?

Arjun goes to milk a deathworm of its water filled sac haha which was fun! Haidee learns the breaking happened because one of the goddesses didn’t die and go to the underworld. Of course she thinks her aunt did die but we know the truth. So now we know one of the twins will die. Arjun also heard from the mirage that he would die for Haidee too. Every time Odessa uses those galla abilities there is a consequence.

Odessa takes over. She wants to go to the middle of the lake to meet a galla. A scylla or a guy who eats sailors pulls her under Lan saves her and they successfully meet the “good” galla. A girl pushes one of the devoted men overboard, I guess her routinely raped the women clerks. She raises his soul to get confirmation.
