I still don’t really love love how inactive the Doctor is in the opening of this but Dicks’ prose is making it feel a lot more textured and supportive of the side characters.

I’ve seen this episode a bunch of times but Dicks really nails the opening and Second Doctor voice.

Mara Jade and Karrde’s introduction still whip (and I truly madly deeply love the narrator’s Khan-ass accent for Talon). This was maybe a good decision?

Against my better judgement, I restarted these. Specifically the audio versions (which are the superior versions tbh) I always forget that in the first chapters Luke’s just blown the fuck away by the concept of HOT CHOCOLATE. The Last Jedi everybody.

Okay NOW we are cooking.

We’ve got stoner lizards. We’ve got a real meaty hook with the main plot. AND now we get some real deal time travel nonsense in how the plot’s temporally scattered narrative starts to unfold;starting basically “after the episode” in the opening and then traveling back a day before the events of the book itself. It’s very fun and insane.

I picked this back up (read: restarted it) as it somewhat pertains to some work I’m doing and I guess i forgot how GNARLY the opening is?

Morris also really instantly nails the voices of Romana and the Fourth Doctor. I’m excited to dig into this more. I’m as excited to read this as much as I’m NOT excited to try and power through Timewrym #1

FINALLY started this and already so impressed by it. Brubaker is clearly working some shit out about his work-for-hire days and I cannot wait to suss through it.

Picked this back up because I couldn’t sleep. I forgot how much of the first chapters are Watson fawning over Sherlock and Sherlock complaining about other fictional detectives

Against my better judgement I have picked this back up.

I don’t understand how something this weird and gross is also so boring. Wild to think these just WERE Doctor Who for a time.

I picked this back up as it pertains to some work stuff and it’s still fun! (If a bit basic)

It’s fun reading Batman like work a case and the Court is used in a really fun way that doesn’t overplay them (yet). Looking forward to finally finishing this (and the Captain Marvel book I got from Titan also).

Again, I’m very struck at just how much different of a flavor of 40k this is without sacrificing the core “experience”. Lots of backstory and detailing here too that has been really fun. Was NOT expecting how dread filled and melancholic it is. Knowing what I know about the property now makes it make sense but I think I would pick up on it regardless of that context.

It is crazy how distinctly different of a flavor of 40k this is, while also still being a tremendous example of how it works and how satirical it is. I can see myself getting WAY into these along with the “present day” 40k franchises.

Went ahead and restarted this because (why the hell not?) I got the paperback. Still one helluva opening and I’ll ALWAYS pop for a dramatis personae.

Just finished NIGHTBRINGER. It was a BLAST in a half. The opening is a little slow (especially paired after the “Chains of Command” short story that opens the volume, which is ALL action) but this was quite fun. I completely understand why people are into the Space Marines now.

Next up is the short “Leviathan” and then into WARRIORS OF ULTRAMAR. (The second Ultramarnies novel).

I’m starting to understand why people love the Space Marines (and McNiell) so much. This thing also just delivered a reveal that had me grinning like an idiot, especially since I read Xenos before this. Genuinely shocked at how much I’m enjoying this.
