“If he died by someone else’s bullet, there’d be no justice to it.”

I truly don’t know how but this thing has jumped from Great to Truly Incredible in its final movements. It’s got so many moving parts and twists but never feels distant or too smart for me. It’s just a towering achievement of a book. I can’t wait for y’all to read it.

Doctor Who should do more cosmic horror.

I truly don’t understand how the shifts in this book are so good. It’s covering such a huge swath of time but it never feels labored or that it’s working too hard to justify it. It’s really a marvel.

I think I am coming up on the end of this and it’s still a lot of fun. The idea that The Doctor and Romana I had all these mini-adventures in the middle of The Key to Time arc is a really neat idea and opens up so much more character beats to add along to the episode’s. Just the best. This might be a new PDA fave of mine tbh

Oh man this thing has fully jumped off now and introduced its major connecting thread to Pearl Harbor and I’m like giddy to keep going with it.

This thing is like the fetch quest from hell! I think I’m starting to realize why people like it so much.

This thing is really getting bonkers. We’ve got Lovecraftian gods, masked richies who are bored to the point of nihilism, AND weird space Anton LeVeys hell bent on hijacking the Doc and Romana I for their own nefarious purposes. It’s been a lot of fun so far I hope it keeps up.

This thing is WEIRD. He keeps jumping back and forth between POV characters and they all have wildly different voices on the page so it’s making it feel even more tonally jumbled.

The whole opening that’s an entirely different adventure, barely connected to this one, aside from its’ Eleven’s first “case” with Jenny and Vastra, also didn’t help much. I can understand why they made him cut this down now

Just cracked Part 2. Man this thing is just getting better and SWEETER. The whole romantic elements at the base of this story are really shining through all the procedural/mystery elements. Didn’t expect that at ALL.

Next up from my Panicked Lockdown EBaying. a Messingham to boot! I like Messingham generally.

And this one has already started off super weird and fun! It’s got a framing device of someone “recounting” this story to a bunch of yokels in a post-apocalyptic pub while The Doctor and Romana I in the main story fob off the Key to Time to fight some Lovecraftian weird-beards and their star-spawn god! Pretty Nice!

Still going at this one which is still revealing a terse poeticism that always surprises me. It’s also making great use of the period and how crimes were tackled back then. Very, very curious as to where this one is headed.

The gag of the Doctor doing EVERYONE’s famous last words (much to the visible annoyance of Romana II) as he thinks he’s about to die made me snort really loud. This is the last chapter I think. It’s been so goddamn fun.

I think I am in the home stretch of this one now. It’s been a lot of fun and properly timey-whimey despite the opening being slow. Morris really captures Baker and Ward well. There is a tremendous bit about the Doctor having a field guide for space monsters that he always keeps on his person. So, so fun. I’m gonna be sad when this is over.

I truly love that so many of the early stories were “oh no! Something is wrong with the TARDIS! Better infiltrate a truly horrifying society and endure constant scares to fix it!” I can totally see why people cape for this serial now

I feel like this one is coming to a close. The timey-whimey stuff is getting a little ropey but I’m still having fun with it.
