I am seriously elated at how much more I like this one more the Heir. Everybody really seems MUCH more in character and they finally have so much more propulsive plots. I have really come around on these books.

I super hope the third one doesn't just tank.

This thing is REALLY starting to cook now. Everybody has really meaty plots and they dont plod themselves forward like they did in Heir. It also cracks me up to hear everybody going on about "Dark Jedi" instead of just saying "Sith" these pre-prequel books are funny anachronisms.

Hearing Leia called "Lady Vader" is pretty badass.

THIS thing is MOVING. Its so much more entertaining than book 1 by a MILE. Luke is having to meditate disputes and Leia is going on diplomatic missions. Its ALL KINDA MY JAM. Plus the guy reading it is really going for it.

I still have a REALLY big problem with Zahn's pacing but this one already has so much more going for it than book 1.

I used some audible credits to go ahead and pick this up and start it. it is already the superior way to take in Zahn's dry ass prose. the guy reading it does great voices.

still chugging along on this. it has really started to pick up in the back half (the standoff sequence was especially harrowing) but unless this goes Full Dark Tower toward the end, i fear I am not going to like this one as much as everybody else seems too.

i won't lie though i got a little choked up when Patrick Danville made his first appearance.

Okay, so aside from this being the single most triggering book I have ever read, I think I’m starting to really get something out of it. It’s starting to move now and there is a specific kind of dread that I’m getting off it now (ESPECIALLY reading it right now in the Year of Our Old One 2018). King writing older characters is...about has cringy as you expect.

I forgot that for long stretches of narrative space Luke is just hibernating in his X-Wing while R2 saves his ass. Tom Scharpling was right, R2-D2 is the best character in Star Wars.

Giving this another shot after TLJ and I gotta say, I’m not hating it. (Much.)

I really love that Wendig gives us a new EU Han and Leia dynamic with Jom Barrell and Jas Emari. Also, suuuuper love that Han is always following Chewie’s lead. Wendig really gets what makes these scrappy rebels cool and endearing.

“Eddie became aware, suddenly and effortlessly, that this might be the final act. That was how the day’s silence felt, wasn’t it? The feeling that the whole town had up and left, leaving only the deserted husks of buildings behind.”
