Peel is...oddly fascinated by the sexual politics of Ancient sexual.

I may have said this before but this is basically Salem’s Lot in Rural England. Plus Gatiss is such a big horror person he REALLy knows how to play with major known beats. It makes me REALLT excited for his other DW novels.

This thing has basically morphed into Salem’s Lot. I REALLy am having a blast with it.

Gatiss just dropped a SUPER unsettling detail about the book’s heavies and he did in it barely 3 lines. They have like NO lights on anywhere in their complex. In the interiors or exteriors and they can still work. He’s also starting to work in a body horror element (the second of which in these 50th Anniversary reprints). This is really, really getting good. He writes an awesome Pertwee Era story.

Lot more “heads smashed in” than I would expect from Doctor Who.

Gatiss writes one hell of a Third Doctor.

Still delightful (I think I’m coming up on the last act)

This thing is oddly lore heavy for an opening book. Like I would assume some forethought of DW before reading this but this thing assumes A LOT more than I would have expected.

Gatiss just threw a whole ass mini adventure for the Doctor for his introduction into the novel’s story. Bliss.

This so far is Very Horny™️ (though the opening that’s basically a Mesopotamian court drama is Very Good)

I love that, no matter what he is writing, you can absolutely always tell Gatiss is a horror person.

Started this proper. Gatiss’ new intro was quite lovely.

“I firmly intended to waffle, but I didn’t know how exactly I was going to go about it.”

This continues to be an absolute delight.

Peter and Beverly are so sweet.

This started sagging a little in the middle acts. Mainly due to some table setting for the action sequence and then said action sequence, but I’m still having fun with it.

Richards has a real handle on this particular Team TARDIS so I’ll always appreciate the effort to write in character

Already very afraid of/amused by the phrase “Uncle Henry’s Special Room”.

I JUST realized all the chapter names are titled after chess moves. This book rules.

This thing is seriously still so funny. The running gag about the 14 volume novel based on the life of Jude The Obscure has gone on for so long it’s stopped being funny and then looped back around to funny. I can’t wait to finish this.

Richards’ Second Doctor is immensely charming. I also love love love the Shakespearean political drama at the center of this.

Now that this is properly out (and a massive hit) I can reveal I got a rare press copy of it! And it’s great!

like a dummy, I didn’t know these were novels. I knew Aaronovitch wrote prose, having loved a bunch of his Doctor Who novels, but had no idea he had his own urban fantasy franchise.

But as a newbie, I am VERY impressed. It’s super funny and clever and wonderful entry point into PC Grant.

My next 50th Anniversary Adventure. From rhe always consistent Justin Richards (who co-wrote my favorite Past Doctor Adventure THE SHADOW IN THE GLASS).

Already off to a cracking start. It has an awesome alt-history hook but it also isn’t afraid to lean into The Second Doctor’s silliness. I’m very excited to get further into this one.
