This thing reeks so strongly of Larry [Mary] Sue that even hours after I've stopped reading, I can't get the stench out of my brain. Despite that, an entertaining novel. Weird.

If I had a BrainPal, I'd name it Loki, or maybe the more obvious, Jarvis. "Asshole?" "Bitch?" The characters in this story are so unimaginative.

Because I had a thing for Goliath from the cartoon Gargoyles. Oh, stop looking at me like that. Admit it. So did you.

Kai is a prick, but I'm perversely engaged by this novel and its characters. Maybe because I don't have any attachment to [never read] Persuasion or anything Jane Austen?

I've got no relationship with the source material, Jane Austen's Persuasion, except that I find Austen unreadable. *Ducks and runs.*

Apparently, this book depicts young people having sex and doing drugs--OMG, the baby Jesus weeps!--and some readers found that offensive. So nosy-nosy me has to read it to see what all the pearl clutching is about...

Must be nice to be young and British and never have to actually go to your day job. Or, at least, that's what Brit chick lit seems to suggest.

Amusing, but likely to take a while to finish because other, more interesting books keep grabbing my attention.

While I love to sneer at Lifetime TV-style female angst, if you wrap it up in lush, lyrical prose, I'll sometimes snort the feels like coke. This strikes me as that kind of book. Prolly overwrought, but weirdly engaging.

I've been cast in my first play, ever, in a significant role, and a paying gig. Need something fluffy, easy-to-read, but not too thinky for downtime between learning blocking, lines and actorly stuff.

Apparently a tale of two unreliable narrators. Must be my thing, because I'm thoroughly engaged.

My status says, "P. Kirby is currently reading Black Dog." Erm, yeah, but is it really reading if I open the book, read a few words, go, "Meh," and switch to another book?

And the percentage inches up a painful 2%. I'm a struck by a stunning indifference to the characters, particularly to Alejandro, who is boring alpha male type. It like, ovah and ovah, "his black dog (wolf) instincts this, and his black dog instincts that." Repetitive. ZZZZZZzzzzzz...

Pleasant, amusing, tho' not as funny as I'd have expected. Good insights into the creative process.
