Although both novels have a stream of consciousness style and a mentally ill protagonist, that's where the similarities between Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Silver Linings Playbook end. I can sympathize with Charlie, while Silver Linings' protag was annoying.

The concept behind the research are interesting, but this feels like a three-page paper in a scientific journal that has been padded to make it book length.

Must stop buying new books and read the backlog on my Kindle...books like this one.

I can't tell if the author's "discovery" that America isn't a classless society is meant to be tongue in cheek, or whether he really was that clueless. Interesting read, but feels like there's more anecdote than science.

Fast paced, which hides the absence of world building. Good, mindless entertainment.

Yes, actually, I am still reading this. Very odd book.

Sorta twee, but after the totally "adult" idiocy that was Chambon's "Wonder Boys," it's sort of refreshing.

And now Grady is whinging, "It [his novel] gets better, you just have to keep reading." Ugh. The refrain from every amateur writer to a bored beta reader. Seriously? Am I really not supposed to hate this guy? I'm actually pitying Crabtree, his editor.

The corpses of a dead dog and a giant boa constrictor in a car trunk? Dude. You are not Janet Evanovich and your protagonist isn't Stephanie Plum. The so-called humor in this is so lacking teh funny. Hate it so much, I must finish it.

"These would be comic books, however. Deborah's reading skills in English were not advanced." And...the protagonist and this dog-awful novel are now on my shit-list. It'll be lucky to get a 2-star review.

This is often a narrow distance between loveable loser and asshole. In this case, that distance is measured in light years, with Grady Tripp being a card-carrying resident of Assholeville. Nope. Me no like.

Whoever said that YA books are full of angst, apparently never read a book about a forty-ish author. More wangsty angst than a case of YA novels. Also, books with author protagonists always read like literary masturbation.

This is a weird-ass reading experience. On one hand, just about everything--rambling plot, distant protagonist, confusing, dense politics--should make this a DNF. Yet I'm perversely fascinated.

I hate Jeb.

All kinds of drama in my life, and still the book has me totally hooked.

Despite a tendency to jump back in time with backstory, this is kind of interesting...

I think the worst part of this novel will be getting to the end and knowing there's a long wait for the next book.

Fun, but not holding my interest as much as its predecessor.

Because--Damn, I wanted to read this book, and it finally dropped to a price I can afford!

Surprised, because this is actually a lot of fun.

The trouble with cyberpunk is that it invariably has to go off on a "this is my cool VR gear" tangent, which should fascinate this geek girl, but, instead makes her start skimming.

So is Apollo supposed to be..., uh, sexy? Because the vibe I'm getting is borderline rapey, where his god-powers are sort of like a date-rape drug. Not appealing at all. Oh, and what-his-name, the police detective, is Boar-ring. Zzzzz.
