So far, I like it! It's like The Wind in the Willows, but with guns, violence and other mayhem.

Fun! Sort of Firefly meets a fusion of steam and diesel punk.

Please, please, be an rip-roaring, interesting adventure, because I've just been bored to death by another book and needz sum funs.

So far, a whole lot of establishing character type stuff, but not much action. Hanging in there because I can't believe Abercrombie could actually be boring.

I'm unmoved by any of the death in this story. I appreciate the idea of taking an obscure female character from a classical text and giving her life. Except she should be interesting, not the dull girl-next-door type who doesn't do much except be dutiful and make offerings to her gods. ZZZZZZZzzzzzzz.

I'm assuming this will pick up momentum, but thus far, it's sort of dull, which is surprising because Abercrombie is rarely dull. Jezal's storyline, the fencing contest, blah-blah-blah, is totally meh.

The uber-jock older brother and nerdy younger brother dynamic between Justin and Julius makes my heart happy.

Ugh. So maybe it's my inherent bias against religion, but I'm so tired of the fucking Godstone. And how do you pray constantly? As in, how is that even possible. Need to DNF this because, despite its many good points, the bad are tipping the scale.

I have a mild crush on Julius.

Read a few more pages. Still bored. Tired of her praying. And praying. And the stoopid Godstone. Feels like an inspy written for secular appeal.

Enjoying this! The question is, Is my perception of the story impacted by the fact that it is written by one of my writing idols--J.K. Rowlings?

For a supposedly action-y, violent novel, this is stunningly...dull.

Elisa: "I'm fat, I'm fat, I'm fat, so fat. Ooo, look! A doughnut. I'm fat, I'm fat, I'm fat, I'm fat."

Zoomy-zoom action with superheroes gone bad. Protagonist is a bit of a Larry Stu, but fun, so far.

"A rifle is elegant. It's an extension of your will." I agree. My fave weapon IRL and when gaming.

I've got me some major closure issues, because I should have DNFed this several chapters ago. I'm such a masochist.

Yeah, uh-huh. Loki doesn't seem to give a shit about the events in this book, so why should I?

As the saying goes, "If these people didn't have bad luck, they'd have no luck at all." Grim and yet morbidly funny.

Somehow the awesome of this book is lost on me. Bored.

Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw on a car: "0 to 60, Eventually." After a very slow start, pace is quickening. The narrative is still prone to being disconnected though. The author took "show don't tell" too much to heart.

This book is a testimonial to the benefits of birth control and family planning.

Problem. Voice is cute, Loki is amusing, but Odin, and the rest of the gods are boring. No sense of any antagonists in this story.

Tom, Rachel's ex, is a douche-canoe. Not sure if I'm supposed to think he's all noble and shit. But, a real man would tell her to fuck off and let him and Anna raise their child. Seriously. Crazy exes should be kicked to the curb.

Yep, the flippant tone is dampening an feels I'd usually have for Loki.

These women are total nutters. Entertaining, in a train wreck sort of way, but...crazy-pants.

Fun, but flippant tone might get old.

Occasionally brilliant, but often absurd to the point of tiresome.

This better not turn out to be one of those "it was all a dream" type story lines.

I feel like I've been reading forever, and yet...only at 27-percent. Prolly time I DNFed this one.
