The only problem is I really don't like any of the secondary characters. They're all assholes. The characterization is solid, but I need to like at least one secondary character in this kind of setup to want to read on beyond the first book.

Really like the voice and the unique protagonist in this one.

McKinley's tendency toward rambling prose is not working for me.

This book is making me want to go all prepper and start stockpiling toilet paper, can goods and ammo. :)

Okay, so I'm really enjoying this. It's a great retelling of the fairy tale. But...big hairy but...the ball makes no fucking sense. None.

Tyler is sort of adorable, and yet, IRL, a guy who is that pushy would set off all kinds of alarms. As in stalker, etc.

Because I'm needing happy-fun fluff with minimal romance.

The best parts feature secondary characters like Fallon, and not the heroine and hero. I'm already skimming most of the h/H chapters.

Competently written, but not blowing up my skirt. World building is thin and sort of messy. I already want to kick the heroine's dad in the head until he'd dead (horrible, overbearing, misogynist, authoritarian type). The gargoyle is...boring. *Sobs.* How can a gargoyle be boring?

Because I'm striking out with every romance I try to read, time for something violent and bloody.

At that point where I know this is sooo not happening, this is not my scene, but making a pathetic attempt to skim to the end anyway. I mean, it's so...vanilla, so white bread. And all tell, no show. ZZzzzzzzzz...

Fun. But Lois Lane, as portrayed in this book, reads more like Chloe from the television show Smallville. I read "Lois Lane" and think of the sort of drippy version from Smallville, and not this spunky version.

I had high hopes for this, but so far it's all insta-lust, with internal dialogues dominated by sex, but not in a sexy way. Just repetitive and dull. Maybe it would help if I had read the previous books and was shipping Chloe and Sawyer. But I haven't and the emphasis on the H/h without much of a subplot (so far) makes for a mediocre love story.

Contemps are hit or miss for me, but I picked this one up because the heroine does some breaking and entering to saves pit bulls.

"The kilometers looked so different from above. An easy span of centimeters...." Reminds me of a friend's comment after she drove to Las Vegas. "But it looks so close on the map!" My friend is a wonderful person, but not so good with geography.

Eyes and nerves, sperm tubes, sinuses and backs are poorly designed from the point of view of individual welfare, but the imperfections make perfect sense in the light of evolution.

Echo. The heroine's name is Echo. My dog's name is Echo. See the problem?

The plot is a bit over the top at times, but it's fun. Despite being an alpha male, the hero is likable.

I'm in the mood for luv. I loved one of Zoe Archers other romances in this (steampunk) world...giving this a go.

Torn. Love the premise and the China Mieville (Perdido Street Staion) vibe. But bored silly with the lagging plot and often muddled dialogue.
