Okay so, just to get this straight:
A book about a made-up sport has its first real match of this sport during the last quarter? Without ever fully describing the rules? And the narration just cuts off after three of 16 goals, because why would anyone be interested in reading about this sport?

Also, how is this sport legal, if people are just getting fucking demolished on the court?

Delightful.

Okay, wild idea:

If you write a book in which a fictional sport is important, maybe do some research on actual sports. Or like, on things in general.

Had to back up a little there, since it's been like... More than a year since I started reading this and Boi have I forgotten everything about it.
But like, damn, Things are cool.
Fucked up, yes, but cool.

"Hey, my drinking-tank broke, and now my helmet is slowly filling up with drinkable water. Whatever am I going to do about that. Gosh. What a predicament. Guess I'll die. I mean, I cannot drink this drinkable water. How would I do that? I think my best bet is to just let my helmet fill up slowly, until there is too much water to drink, which I will obviously not have done, because why would I?"

I would love to like this more.
But there's just so much heavy-handed exposition crammed onto every page.

It's like this comic was made specifically to cater to my serotonin-production.
Everyone looks cool as fuck, the style is amazing (the colors? Holy fuck), and there's MONSTERS (or, like... Ghosts. But same same)?!

I'm sorry, but I can't really take Stephen King seriously when he complains that vampires in modern (well, 2010) media are being romanticized and he wants them to be scary again. Like... Damn ma dude. Vampires have not been actively scary for quite a while now.
Then again, my general faith in media influenced by King has diminished a little after having seen both IT-movies.
Maybe I'm a bit too harsh.

Every time I hear/read about 23 y/o people acting like they understand some fundamental truth about culture and/or being a functioning human being, I feel like an idiot.

Also, he is a dickhead, but I don't need to be reminded of that every ten minutes.

Well this is just fucking gorgeous, isn't it?

Thought I might aswell start this, since I've had this book in my possession for like 4 years now.
And it's good, until now. The only thing I'm concerned about is another review, describing the protagonist as a whiny man-child.
And I can see that development.
And I'm afraid of that.
But we will see.

Don't really know why it's taking me so long to get through this book, but rest assured, it's not because I don't like it.

In terms of Sanderson-books, this will probably be ranked somewhere between Skyward and Rithmatist for me. Maybe even on the same level as Rithmatist.
Nothing is likely to beat Mistborn in that ranking, but hey, at least it's not Steelheart.

Alright, so... Why are they both dumb? I mean, not incredibly so, but just enough to make the whole situation immensely harder on themselves.

Ich kann jetzt nicht behaupten, das Buch aus freien Stücken gelesen zu haben, aber ich empfinde die Lektüre jetzt auch nicht als aktiv einschläfernd.
Auch wenn ich mir gut vorstellen kann, dass das Buch manchen mühsamen Gestalten als Grundlage dienen könnte, um noch mühsamer zu werden.

I mean... I don't really know what I expected. But this is just a very pleasant read?
At the same time tho, this guy has done so many fucking things in his life, and he just ended a chapter with "I was twenty-two".

Kinda feel like I need to play catch-up now.
