It's hilarious that Freddy is supposed to be effete fashionable man about town, but he's the one whose dialogue sounds like a country bumpkin. Meanwhile, Jack has arrived!!! There's definitely something reminiscent of Wodehouse in this.

Bit surprised by how much of the last chapter was taking up by telling us how much of a stereotypical gay Freddy is, unless that's somehow supposed to make it more surprising when they end up together for real.

Can't say I was expecting quite the level of comedy this book is giving.

Ok, it's funny, but all these people are horrible. Except Dolphinton, he's adorable. The book should just drop this girl and follow Dolphinton as he's abducted by an Irish nationalist. Nobody will ransom him, but it's ok, cuz they fall in love. <3

I wonder if the unclear bits would have been improved had Melville actually ever "finished" this.

Well, the last few sections seemed a little off topic.

Herman just stopping after one paragraph to let us know about the time he saw a really hot black dude in England. In other news 2 typos on the 3rd page of the story in the Norton Critical Edition. smh

Before I Die - first of 3 novellas, wasn't sold on it in the beginning, but it turned out good. (got an omnibus with a bunch of the novella collections for $0.99, so I'm going to interleave them w other books)
