Tried to start 2 other books but they sucked ass. This is good though. And an Adler in the mix 😄 this should be fun.

noticed some superfluous punctuation, and a to for too in this one, but it's very funny

Getting pretty sick of GR deleting covers, adding bogus "read" counts, and flooding my feed with decade old updates to the point I'm sure I'm missing my friends ACTUAL updates. Boggles the mind that they know a background process is corrupting data, but they just keep running it anyway.

I mean, it's not HEAVY, exactly, but it's not entirely light hearted either. I'd say it isn't what I expected, but I'd pretty much forgotten everything I ever knew about it so I went in a bit of blank slate. The prose is very good though, so no complaints so far.

So far I have two complaints:
1: The word "giggled" is disgusting and should NEVER be used for someone over the age of 3. A "giggle" and a laugh are not the same.
2: The paragraph indents look like the 1/2 inch style from my high school typing class, fine for a double spaced MS on 8.5x11 paper, but typeset should be about 1 "em", or between 1 "en" and the line height. Imagine a square that fits between the lines.

I wasn't sure about this in the beginning, the court scene was ugh, but after that it's quite cute and funny.

The GR feed is like a time travel adventure these days.

Hash Todhunter was a lean, stringy man in the early thirties, with a high forehead and a ruminative eye. Irritated messmates who had played poker with him had sometimes compared this eye to that of a perishing fish; but to the critic whose judgment was not biased and inflamed by recent pecuniary losses it would have been more suggestive of a parrot which has looked on life and found it full of disillusionment. - p.18

Been a while since I touched this series, but I couldn't pass up Aaronovitch doing a Wodehouse pastiche.

Thought GR was supposedly getting books fed direct from Amazon these days, but I notice a whole lot of the new books I look at don't seem to have proper pub/release dates. Some stuff is coming in without covers, and covers of editions that have been here for years are suddenly disappearing. wtf?

Well... this is as far as I made it with contiguous reading. I've gone non-linear now. Skipping ahead to parts that are of more immediate interest. (This is very interesting, and as academic writing goes, it's not nearly as bad as most, but it's still overly wordy and full of references to things I haven't read and using terms I really don't understand sufficiently to get anything out of big passages.)
