“Oh yes, we loved each other, but you were always between us.”
I have read many versions of Arthur's story. It still makes me sad in the end. This was a very realistic account of his life, no magic, except his short encounter with his sister but since he is talking to us from his deathbed maybe his memory is blurred... Anyway, first chapters were all fight fight etc, so so, but the rest is impressive. Superb writng.

"They think we interact with daytimers too much as it is.”
“Daytimers. Sunnysides. What do you call us behind our backs?”
“Dinner.”

"What can become of a world where every man knows what another man reads? Why, sir, books would become like quacks' potions, with every mountebank in the newspapers claiming one volume's superiority over another."

"In that moment I first understood that I loved Guenhumara.

In the next I fell headlong over a pig — we kept a good deal of livestock by that time — who rose in squealing affront and lumbered off into the night, leaving me to rub a bruised elbow and curse the Fates who must need strip a man even of his dignity, making a clown of him even while they turn the knife in the wound that they have made."

Out of the 15 chapters I've read so far I have really enjoyed only 3 of them. The rest is all battle and more battle ug The tiny font isn't helping...

Too many things wrong with this one. From Sach's attitude to that solution to all problems in the end that in real life would be a scandal. Oh well...

I've never liked CSI so I've skimmed most of the technical babble. But I found the character of Rhyme, a suicidal tetraplegic criminologist, very interesting so here I am kinda enjoying this...

Arcadias wants to read this book. Instead of asking politely, he sends a thief to steal it. He reads it and then sends the same thief to give it back.
...
And that sums up the entire book. All the people who dies in the process? They are mostly the bad guys so who cares.
I reckon it's very well written but come on....

If I had to define this book in a word it would be pulp. Not in a pejorative way. Pulp is a genre on its own imo. Two dimensional characters, stereotypes, alternate history, an annoying heroine who always laughs out of cue but is the perfection born, able to master anything in a matter of days. I don’t know how Roma Nova managed to survive for 1700 years without her :P But I couldn’t stop reading. Interesting idea.

This was planned as a trilogy until they started selling books big time. So they decided to go for 6 books. Of couse they need a lot of filling for near to 3600 pages so the train with no brakes that was the first book becomes something like a circus parade. Hm. I never thought I'd say this but I miss first book's vomit zombies :P
