First book felt a bit more serious in spite of the zombies. In general, we can say the basic idea is the same, a father looking for his daughter. Lack of new ideas there. And now we have a new character: Avasarala who is too foul mouthed for a sharp politician with I don't know how many PhDs. It felt like a wrong idea of what feminism means. Still, I couldn't put it down...

I loved Miller's lonely character with his imaginary friend? conscience?... humanity? Brilliant.

I started this last night convinced I'd be bored to death in 10 pages. I can't stop reading....

Excellent. The book does deserve that Ellis Peters Award. Very good mystery, a credible romantic story and an historical background impeccably described to the last detail. Recommended.

"This is the story of a woman and a city. I saw the city first, glimpsing it from afar as it shimmered like the new Jerusalem in the light of the setting sun. I smelled the sweetness of the land and sensed the nearness of green, growing things after the weeks on the barren ocean. We had just passed through the narrows between Long and Staten islands and come into Upper New York Bay. It was Sunday, 2 August 1778."

Maybe not the best book of the lot but the last 100 pages compensate for all the descriptions and slow pace of the first part. I'd like a list of characters because there are way too many already.

K this was silly and it had way too many coincidences. And I think the title is not fitting. Georgie does get a job from the Queen to spy on Mrs Simpson (yup that Mrs Simpson) but that takes up about ten lines in the novel. Still if was fun and I couldn't stop reading.

"In a perfect cinematic world we would’ve captured the bad guys in spectacular fashion with explosions, car chases, and a parting kiss. She would’ve been played by Ava Gardner, and I would’ve been played by Robert Taylor."
