Lucas pressed his ear to Jennifer’s bare midriff.
“Am I supposed to be hearing anything yet?”
“Are you listening really closely?”
“Yeah.” He pressed down harder.
“Well, if you listen very closely . . .”
“Yeah?”
“You can probably hear that Budweiser I had before bed.”

There’s always a moment when you’re in a situation like this, where you think that now is the time to turn mother’s picture to the wall...

I love this guy.

He shook his head. 'Sorry, I'm already booked for lunch.'
'Oh? Who with?'
The murderer.'
3 days to read this. I swear my sofa is a sleep trap.
This was interesting. A mystery in the old fashion with no blood hitting the walls. In fact they have no idea how the woman died. I liked Diamond's character although he sounds older than his 40s with his reticence against computers.
I shall try more books in this series.

This was very imaginative. And that's all the positive opinion I can give about this book.
Because the only character with some dimension was the monkey. The rest? The Prince's "romance" was so unconvincing that I thought she was some kind of spy playing her part...
The way they discover what's really going on? "Yah I found some papaers laying around listing the plans of the evil *****"
**rolls eyes.

The ebook includes a short story and the first 2 chapters of the book "The Spring..." I've read only the short story. The premise is interesting but can't say I'm very fond of his writing. Dunno...

I am still dizzy by the big twist at around 89%. That was so unexpected. Even though I had read there was something different about this novel I hadn't imagined that. Excellent. Very recommended for mystery nuts... I mean fans :)

This is really good. Even the translation is excellent. If I wasn't so tired I'd had finished it already. I keep wondering about Irene. She's Verhoeven's wife and very pregnant and of course very important to him but not that important in the run of the story. So why the title? I'm so waiting a surprise here...

Better than expected from a freebie. (Wait, so I don't have high hopes for freebies? hmm)
It could have used a good editor here and there though.

“Should I be concerned that one of your first questions is how to kill me?”
Her jaw dropped. “What? No! I didn’t mean…I was just curious.”
He snorted. “Well, you can remain so.”
“What about the sun?” she asked. “Extra toasty?”
“I’m not going to burst into flames, but I avoid tanning beds.”
“Silver?”
“Some of my favorite cufflinks.”
“Garlic?”
“Please,” he sneered. “I’m Italian.”

I don't remember the first book being this annoying. Why? Because they don't talk. They only banter all the time with each other: Hugo, Tom, Claudia, Raul, even the Ambassador, making them sound all the same. Besides the story makes French police sound dumb and trigger happy...

I liked the Devi of the first book because tough maybe she wasn't the smartest but she really knew what she wanted and fought very hard to get it.
And then this book starts with a 100 pages monologue of "I love him" "I hate him" etc. What a waste. When she makes a decision at last... Rupert is not the same character either. Who's this no brain puppet following her everywhere? No comment on the very sugared end...
