This was quite good. This almost vampire fight to stay human was interesting but I absolutely loved Suzume. She is a fox-woman, the nosiest person ever written. The facebook "incident" was just hilarious. Looking forward to book 2.

Yah me too. The problem in this book is that people talk non stop. There is a witness talking for 3 pages straight. Breathe!! There is nothing but blah blah..
“…Broad beans, butter beans, runner beans, french beans, kidney beans, haricot beans . . . Don’t pay any attention, Belle, I’m rambling.’”

Ireland in shades of black and green under the gibbous moon. Ireland under the canopy of grey cloud, under the crow’s wing, under the crow’s wing and the helicopter blade. A night ride over the Lagan valley and the bandit country of South Armagh. The music in my head was Mahler’s Ninth Symphony, which opens with a hesitant syncopated motif evocative of Mahler’s irregular heartbeat . . .

I've been counting the pages left from page... 10 or so. *yawn* I like how precise the author is with historical details and facts so it desn't make much sense that she has to invent a new daughter for Louis XIV *rolls eyes*. I think the previous books were better.

This was really a great book for a first novel. You keep guessing to the last page, there are twists and turns, characters are very interesting, and there is the comic relief in the scenes with Janusz's all time friend.
Only I'm a bit surprised they get a constable all alone to investigate a double murder (!!!) Odd. Getting book2 asap :)

“When you said you’d take me to Poland you didn’t mention anything about him,” grumbled Janusz, jerking his thumb to the van’s rear.
“What’s the big problem, Janek? What have you got against my friend Olek?” said Oskar pulling an innocent face. “Is it because he is such a chatterbox?”
Olek didn’t join in the exchange, which was hardly surprising, since he had been dead for six days.

The idea of the nature of the alien in this book is just brilliant. And the execution is perfect. It starts very slow but of course you need time to absorb this new idea and understand it. The author doesn't push it at you. She shows. Then the book picks up speed untill you are sitting at the border of the chair by the end of the book. And so cool that the default pronoum for everybody is "she". I want book 2!!!

The book looses momentum every time she spends pages on end describing fights. First 200 pages were beating around the bush and kinda boring. The rest was quite good although she uses the "you do this or I shoot myself" trick around 3 too many times. 3.5

4.5 stars. Because I don't like first person pov. Even if in this case this woman is the kind who would brag non stop for +350 pages about how good she is fighting and how good is her armour and her guns and how she kicks ass and jumps and how fast... uh Good balance between the action and the romancish part of the book. Book 2 where are you....
