“Oh yes, we loved each other, but you were always between us.”
I have read many versions of Arthur's story. It still makes me sad in the end. This was a very realistic account of his life, no magic, except his short encounter with his sister but since he is talking to us from his deathbed maybe his memory is blurred... Anyway, first chapters were all fight fight etc, so so, but the rest is impressive. Superb writng.

"In that moment I first understood that I loved Guenhumara.
In the next I fell headlong over a pig — we kept a good deal of livestock by that time — who rose in squealing affront and lumbered off into the night, leaving me to rub a bruised elbow and curse the Fates who must need strip a man even of his dignity, making a clown of him even while they turn the knife in the wound that they have made."

Out of the 15 chapters I've read so far I have really enjoyed only 3 of them. The rest is all battle and more battle ug The tiny font isn't helping...
