Complaining about DEI before it was cool. XD

Apparently you can't hold people to standards AND be compassionate at the same time. Granted, there are people who seem to believe compassion means endlessly tolerating bad behavior. But you don't have to listen to them! You don't have to compensate for bad takes with worse takes!

He also thinks that society depends on mutual respect, but that respect has to be earned.

This book is trying to not argue for letting people die in the gutter, but it's like, "But also we shouldn't help people unless they earn it."

Maybe as part of living in a society we shouldn't let people drown, as a rule. Because that's part of being civilized. Maybe people shouldn't need to earn dignity.

This book is giving me the rage. Like brother, friend, people wont participate in society MORE if you take their entitlements away. They will be trapped inside, unable to go anywhere or do anything. Participation in society costs MONEY. If you give people with a deficit of money some money, they will go outside and do things. Now they can buy a bus ticket or go to the store.

This book is arguing that the problem with modern society is that we've been freed from our social obligations by the state. Because the state gives us social security, we don't have to take care of grandma.

Nothing about how we've been robbed of our ability to care for grandma because we work so hard for so little. It's not that you're poor, busy and exhausted, you're too free so you don't bother. Thanks liberals.

Don't judge me for reading a book by Marilyn Manson.

Judge me for reading yet another book by Neil Strauss.

Lord, I'm on page 6 of 525 and I can already tell I wish Shoshana Zuboff was a more concise writer.

So I recently figured out how to make a "did not finish" shelf in order to get books off my "currently reading" shelf without having to mark them as "read" or having to delete them from my books entirely.

Here's how you do it:

1. Click on "My Books"
2. Next to the "Bookshelves" header, click "Edit"
3. In the "Add a Shelf" textbox, type "did not finish", "dnf", "abandoned" etc.
4. Check "exclusive"

Helpful, right?

I love that he's supposed to be this super smart leet gamer, the most famous in the world, but he can't figure out a way to make that lucrative enough that he doesn't have to work 40 hours a week.

Okay, this post-apocalyptic world is hilarious to me. Like clearly there was incredible innovation in gaming and computer technology but no innovation AT ALL in energy. The entire premise is "we ran out of oil and gave up on life."

It's only been nine years since this book was released and green technology is already a 1000X better than it is in this book which is supposed to take place in 2044.

How I miss boys proving who's cooler/smarter by flinging a nonstop barrage of condescension at each other.

I sure hope there isn't more where this came from!
